Recorded back in 2018, Mr. Zulueta and I discuss the Oscar-winning Spike Lee joint “Blackkklansman.” I saw this film in the theater, and was not only late in reviewing this movie, but we’re also late in releasing our chat about it! However, in the year 2020 this movie is just as meaningful and as impactful as it was when it was made, and as relevant as the time of the original story. Power to the people! — Chuck

Captain's Log, Stardate 8.2020-- in this first episode since the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine began, we are back to discuss a couple of treks to the stars. We take a look at the latest of the Star Trek reboots, "Star Trek Beyond," as well as the original 40-year-old "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." Are these bold additions to the Star Trek cannon? But when the trailers showed up, people began to think a bit differently about the Todd Philips directed "Joker," starring Joaquin Phoenix as Author Fleck. And what to Mr. Zulueta and I think about this motion picture? Is it a great Joker story, or is it just a joke? Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is the 9th film by Quentin Tarantino. In this episode, Mr. Zulueta and I chat about the latest from a director that he and I like quite a bit. So is Mr. Tarantino's latest a masterpiece? Or is it a piece of something else?

After an extended hiatus, A/K/A busy at the day job, Mr. Zulueta and I are back with our review of one of the most anticipated movies in the last 10 years-- Avengers: Endgame. Miles Morales makes it onto the silver screen in the animated feature being called the best superhero movie of the year, as well as one of the best superhero films ever made! With more than 44 million views, their latest thriller/horror film Bird Box has become a bit of a cultural phenomenon, resulting in dozens of social media memes and the infamous #BirdBoxChallenge. In this latest episode, Mr. Zulueta and I participate in a Bird Box challenge of our own...watching the film itself. Is it as great as many people say it is? Or does this bird have a busted wing? I'm not as well-versed in the Ninjago mythology as Maya is, so she takes the lead while I ask the questions, and also draw parallels to the stuff that I'm more familiar with. Another month, another Marvel movie. This time, it's the sequel to 2015's "Ant-man" called "Ant-man and The Wasp." Mr. Zulueta and I manage to stop talking about DC movies for a moment to have a chat about the first Marvel film to be released after "Avengers: Infinity War." Is this a worthy addition, or just fodder to hold us over until "Captain Marvel" and "Avengers 4"? -- Chuck

On this episode I give some thoughts on the Scarlett Johansen science fiction vehicle "Under The Skin," a film that I feel doesn't get as much attention as it deserves. It's rare that you see an A-list star like Johansen taking on a role like this. If you're a science fiction fan, you owe it to yourself to see this film! -- Chuck

How YOU Dune? David Lynch's Dune is considered one of the most divisive science fiction films of all time. Universally panned upon its initial release, it eventually found a devoted audience on home video and became an undeniable cult classic. Mr. Zulueta and I absolutely adore this film. I remember my father seeing it in the theatre back in the day, and if you were lucky enough to see it opening weekend like he did, the audience was given a pamphlet with a glossary of terms so that people could understand what was being discussed in the film! Over the years, the film has been presented in a variety of ways-- in its original 2 hour 17 minute version, a 3 hour extended cut, and a 4 hour television cut. Now, over 30 years later, a obsessive fan known only as "SpiceDiver" has created what could be considered the ultimate cut of the film-- taking great liberties in rearranging the structure, adding deleted scenes, music and tweaking visual effects. In this episode of Cinepod Moviecast, we compare and contrast the original version with this new "Alternative Edit, Redux" version. How do the two differ? And which version works better? We sip from the Water of Life, and survive the Gom Jubbar to find out. THE SLEEPER HAS AWAKEN! -- Chuck

Mr. Zulueta and I have marveled over the reality of the fact that we will be getting new Star Wars pictures every year for the foreseeable future! Is this a good thing? Is THIS a good film? For me, "Pink Flamingos" had been on my radar for over 20 years, but I avoided it because of what I had heard about the ending. As for José, he gets a bit of insight into how Elizabeth Berkley went from "Saved by the Bell" to a starring role in what had been rumored to be Hollywood's first mainstream soft core porno film. Then, we take a look at the one and only Mr. Steven Spielberg's long-awaited, much-anticipated adaptation of Ernest Cline's 'totally awesome' debut novel "Ready Player One". I read the book a few years back, and having grown up as a geek in the 1980s, I fell in love with the book; it's fun, and entertaining- a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the digital age.
