Howard Stark has played a supporting role in the stories of Iron Man, Captain America, and Agent Carter, but what is his story? Caroline and Bridgette argue that Howard is a more complex and ultimately tragic character than he's initially made out to be - both by his son and by fandom. Cynical and heroic, secretly kind and not-so-secretly in love with Steve, Howard struggles with self-esteem and communication issues all his life. We hypothesize about how Howard and Tony's vastly different generations, class backgrounds, and emotional needs contribute to their fraught relationship. We also look at Howard's other relationships throughout the MCU movies and television series. And Bridgette throws in a Pride & Prejudice reference for good measure.

Welcome to the Munsons at the Movies podcast. Each episode we delve into the filmography and impact of a randomly selected actor. In this episode, we explore the career of the silver fox, John Slattery. Best known for his roles as Roger Sterling in Mad Men (2007-2015), Ben Bradlee Jr. in Spotlight (2015), and Howard Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Slattery has built a successful career as a supporting actor on television and film. Joined once again by guest Munson, Matti Groll, we discuss Slattery's charm on-screen, an early role where he loved golden showers, contemplate if he has any roles better than Mad Men, and brainstorm the third installment of the Dirty Dancing franchise. How does he rank on the Munson Meter? Listen to find out.
For Tony and Steve, the time heist comes to a close, but not before To– Howard Potts shares a few final words, a handshake, and a hug with Howard Stark. As the two time travelers reconvene, Edwin Jarvis and his hairpiece make a last minute cameo, pre-disembodied voice. Today's scene can be found at: Avengers: Endgame [from 1:44:58 to 1:46:37]. Apparently, Howard Stark took the "let's head out West" a little TOO seriously. But he stops his silver screen escapades long enough to help a quick little sting op for Carter, plus he gets to play with a bunch of girls and stick it to a stingy and uptight man. Feminist womanizer Stark strikes again! Today's scene can be found at: Agent Carter 2.03 [from 0:37 to the 18:06]. You can find us on Twitter @timelinescav! In this minute of Joe Johnston's 2011 film ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,' the Howling Commandos toast to Steve, Howard Stark retrieves the Tesseract, and Colonel Phillips gives the inactive case file on the Captain America project to Agent Carter.
Oh Peggy. The office is dealing with the shocking events of the previous night. And Peggy finds a way to process it, while repairing a bridge with a friend. James and Colin interpret Thompson's meaning differently, and then get into the risks involved with friendship. Pretty deep for a 7 minute clip, huh? Today's scene can be found at: Agent Carter 1.03 [from 36:01-end of episode]. Does Dottie look familiar? She should! We met her in Howard Stark's hangar here You can find us on Twitter @timelinescav! Houdini's greatest failure happened right here in NYC, so what makes you think YOU, MOLLY, CAN GET ONE PAST ME, THE MOST UPPITY LANDLORD OF 1946?? Molly, you're out. Dottie, you're in. And I got a good feeling about you! Today's scene can be found at: Agent Carter 1.03 [from 4:29 to 35:58]. Does Dottie look familiar? She should! 1945 is coming to a close, so it's time to lock it all up in Howard Stark's vault. It's a good thing it's super secure and there's no way some blonde chick he's just met could possibly get her hands on it, right, Howard? ... Howard? Today's scene can be found at: Agent Carter 2.04 [start at 0:47 and end at 2:08]. You can find us on Twitter @timelinescav! This week we have a bonus postlude to the Rerun Summer, a post-credits scene, if you will, with 2015's "Agent Carter." Hayley Atwell reprises her role as SSR Agent Peggy Carter, as well as Dominic Cooper returning as Howard Stark in a recurring role. Peggy has to face both spies and sexism in this late 40's set spy show. In this minute of Joe Johnston's 2011 film ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,' Colonel Phillips orders Howard Stark and Agent Carter to pack for a trip to London, and tells Steve that he's going to Alamagordo. Senator Brandt has other intentions with Steve, however, and convinces him to fight on the most important battlefield there is.
In this minute of Joe Johnston's 2011 film ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,' Steve lays down in the rebirth device and chats with Dr. Erskine, who apparently drank all the Schnapps. Howard Stark is here running things! Agent Carter gets booted from the ground floor. And Dr. Erskine starts his big speech.
What If... Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers were a tag team unlike anything we've seen in the MCU so far? What If... Peggy turned herself into a missile? What If... In this minute of Joe Johnston's 2011 film ‘Captain America: The First Avenger,' Howard Stark shows up, but it's not John Slattery – it's Dominic Cooper! Turns out his flying car is a dud. Meanwhile, Steve's date isn't interested in peanuts.

With the mention of the word "Incursions" in Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness its timely for us to reach the "Time Runs Out" portion of our Into the Hickmanverse series. This is the lead up to Secret Wars and its basically Hickman destroying the Marvel Universe. All of it. Time Runs Out is actually jarring at first because there is an 8 month story gap. The Avengers have split. The Illuminati is on the run with new members. The Captain Britain Corp has been wiped out. The Cabal is given free rein to destroy other worlds. So much has happened and Hickman takes his time explaining it all. We also get the reveal of who "Rabum Alal" is and it's...Doctor Doom. Hickman does what he always does and calls his shot and takes us back to the beginning. And not just this series but all of his series. At one point the Illuminati takes refuge in the Immortal City that we saw Nathaniel Richards and Howard Stark as members of S.H.I.E.L.D. There's also some connections to Secret Warriors. And you really start to wonder if "All Hope Lies in Doom" from the Fantastic Four series with Val & Franklin from the future was also talking about the work that Doom is doing in this series that leads to him confronting the Beyonders. And then there are the hints at future Hickman stories. Like when Scott talks about the name of the game being "resurrection". Knowing what we know now about Hickman's time on X-Men and it seems like he called his shot here as well. Every time we read this series we pick up something new. By the end of Time Runs out there's only two universes left: 616 and 1610. And that's where we will pick this all back up with Secret Wars in the next episode. Like what you hear? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America:_The_First_AvengerIn the present day, scientists in the Arctic uncover an old, frozen aircraft. In March 1942, Nazi lieutenant general Johann Schmidt and his men steal a mysterious relic called the Tesseract,[N 2] which possesses untold godly powers, from the town of Tønsberg in German-occupied Norway. In New York City, Steve Rogers is rejected for World War II military recruitment due to his various health and physical problems. While attending an exhibition of future technologies with his best friend, Sgt. James "Bucky" Barnes, Rogers again attempts to enlist. Overhearing Rogers' conversation with Barnes about representing his country in the war, Dr. Abraham Erskine allows Rogers to enlist. He is recruited into the Strategic Scientific Reserve as part of a "super-soldier" experiment under Erskine, Colonel Chester Phillips, and British agent Peggy Carter. Phillips is unconvinced by Erskine's claims that Rogers is the right person for the procedure but relents after seeing Rogers jump on a grenade to save his comrades, unaware that it is a test. The night before the treatment, Erskine reveals to Rogers that Schmidt underwent the procedure prematurely and suffered permanent side-effects.Schmidt and Dr. Arnim Zola harness the energies of the Tesseract, intending to use the power to fuel Zola's inventions, mounting an offensive that will change the world. Schmidt discovers Erskine's location and sends assassin Heinz Kruger to kill him. Erskine subjects Rogers to the super-soldier treatment, injecting him with a special serum and dosing him with "vita-rays". After Rogers emerges from the experiment taller and more muscular, an undercover Kruger kills Erskine and flees with a vial of the serum. Rogers pursues and captures Kruger, but the assassin avoids interrogation by committing suicide with a cyanide capsule. With Erskine dead and his super-soldier formula lost, U.S. Senator Brandt has Rogers tour the nation in a colorful costume as "Captain America" to promote war bonds while scientists study him and attempt to reverse-engineer the formula. In 1943, while on tour in Italy performing for active servicemen, Rogers learns that Barnes' unit was MIA in a battle against Schmidt's forces. Refusing to believe that Barnes is dead, Rogers has Carter and engineer Howard Stark fly him behind enemy lines to mount a solo rescue attempt. Rogers infiltrates the fortress of Schmidt's Hydra division, freeing Barnes and the other prisoners. Rogers confronts Schmidt, who removes a mask to reveal a red, skull-like visage that earned him the sobriquet "the Red Skull". Schmidt escapes and Rogers returns to base with the freed soldiers.Rogers recruits Barnes, Dum Dum Dugan, Gabe Jones, Jim Morita, James Montgomery Falsworth, and Jacques Dernier to attack other known Hydra bases. Stark outfits Rogers with advanced equipment, most notably a circular shield made of vibranium, a rare, nearly indestructible metal. Rogers and his team sabotage various Hydra operations, while he and Carter begin to fall in love. In 1945, the team assaults a train carrying Zola. Rogers and Jones succeed in capturing Zola, but Barnes falls from the train to his apparent death.[N 3] Using information extracted from Zola, the final Hydra stronghold is located, and Rogers leads an attack to stop Schmidt from using weapons of mass destruction on major American cities. Rogers climbs aboard Schmidt's aircraft as it takes off. During the subsequent fight, the Tesseract's container is damaged. Schmidt physically handles the Tesseract, which opens a wormhole into space, sucking him into it. The Tesseract burns through the plane and is lost in the ocean. Seeing no way to land the plane without the risk of detonating its weapons, Rogers radios Carter and says goodbye to her before crashing in the Arctic. Stark later recovers the Tesseract from the ocean floor but is unable to locate Rogers or the aircraft, presuming him dead.Rogers awakens in a 1940s-styled hospital room. Hearing a radio broadcast of a baseball game that he attended in 1941, Rogers grows suspicious, flees outside and finds himself in present-day Times Square, where S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury informs him that he has been "asleep" for nearly 70 years. In a post-credits scene, Fury approaches Rogers and proposes a mission with worldwide ramifications.[N 4]Web: https://theguysreview.simplecast.com/EM: theguysreviewpod@gmail.comIG: @TheGuysReviewPod TW: @The_GuysReview FB: https://facebook.com/TheGuysReviewPod/YT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYKXJhq9LbQ2VfR4K33kT9Q Please, Subscribe, rate and review us wherever you get your podcasts from!! While nearly every other MCU movie has found a streaming home on Disney+, HBO Max recently announced that The Incredible Hulk starring Ed Norton, Liv Tyler and Tim Roth will start streaming on its service beginning April 8. The Incredible Hulk now joins Spider-Man: Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home as the only MCU films not currently available on Disney+. Earlier in March, all of Netflix's Marvel shows were removed from the streaming platform, eventually landing on Disney+ on March 16. While watching the Jessica Jones Season 1 episode "A.K.Arrrr. Crush Syndrome" on Disney+, one fan caught that the Netflix name had not been entirely removed from the opening credit sequence, posting it on Reddit. For other episodes of the series and shows like Daredevil and Luke Cage though, these credits have been removed entirely without a trace. Marvel Studios Developing New Cosmic Project https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-developing-new-cosmic-project/ According to the latest issue of Production Weekly, a trustworthy industry publication that tracks and chronicles films and series in various stages of development, Marvel Studios is beginning work on a new cosmic project. The entry is simply listed as, "Untitled Marvel Space Project" and sports the status of "Development." As can be expected, Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege is currently listed as the only producer attached to the project. Beyond its existence, nothing else is known about what this mysterious chapter in the MCU will entail. MARVEL TELEVISION Avengers: Endgame Almost Featured an Agents of SHIELD Character (Photo) https://thedirect.com/article/avengers-endgame-agents-of-shield-character-photo Avengers Endgame Almost Included Marvel TV Marvel Studios made its first major reference to the television side in Avengers: Endgame. Agent Carter's Edwin Jarvis made a brief cameo as Howard Stark's butler during the 1970s Tesseract segment of the Time Heist, tying those two projects together. But it seems the same sequence came close to bringing Agents of SHIELD into the picture through Season 2 antagonist Daniel Whitehall. The Hydra boss spent the early days of his career recovering powerful artifacts under the Red Skull before joining him to work on the Tesseract, explaining his link to the Time Heist plans. Despite being born in 1904, Whitehall retained his middle-aged appearance in the modern-day after using harvesting the DNA and organs of an Inhuman to de-age himself. After causing half a season of trouble for the Agents of SHIELD team, Whitehall was finally shot and killed by Phil Coulson in 2014, meaning he was still alive during the Avengers' first attempt to recover the Tesseract for 2012. Reed Diamond must have been shocked to receive a call from Marvel to check his availability, given his Hydra villain had been killed off years earlier. Since Whitehall was alive throughout the entire Time Heist, it's anyone's guess where he may have appeared. The Hydra Boss was captured by the SSR in 1945 and held until 1989, meaning he may have been considered for the 1970s SHIELD base scene with the young Peggy Carter, Hank Pym, and Howard Stark. The scrapped Agents of SHIELD crossover would have left Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, and all five heroes of "The Defenders Saga" as the only major omissions from Avengers: Endgame. Since the blockbuster event was already so packed with heroes, perhaps it was for the best that Marvel didn't try to integrate its many TV fan-favorites into the mix. Despite Agents of SHIELD's many references to the MCU, Marvel Studios has yet to reference any characters or events from the seven-season epic, leading some to justifiably call its canon status into question. But with the series having just recently made the jump to Disney+, speculation is rife that the SHIELD team could be in for a comeback in the near future. Soundscapes: Avengers Campus Follow along with the show notes below! Want More Here With The Magic? Visit The Website: https://herewiththemagic.com Watch Here: https://www.youtube.com/HereWithTheMagic Connect on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/herewiththemagic Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/herewiththemagic/ ---------- (2:50) Long before the Avengers set up headquarters on this land at Disney's California Adventure, it was held by a group of mystical sorcerers known as the Vishanti, who protected the Earth's entire dimension and whose supernatural power could be transferred to human beings worthy of its possession. A young and ambitious Howard Stark, who was intrigued by the celestial properties of this place, found himself drawn to and inspired by its secrets. He laid the foundation for what is now a place of innovation and creativity, inspiration and, you guessed it, Magic. When Tony Stark inherited the campus from his father, it became a beacon of hope and opportunity unlike ever before. Renowned and brilliant minds from across every dimension of the universe have come to this place to hone their skills, better their talents, and work toward creating a brighter future for all. The energy that pulses through this place is undeniable; it sweeps us along on an unforgettable journey. The music, the movement, the otherworldly enigma…it's all part of the Magic of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here, we find stories which have defined the popular culture of generations, and we are invited to be part of it all. (9:12) Up ahead, WEB Headquarters is an impressive introduction to Stark's vision for a Campus of superior minds. The youngest Avenger with the biggest heart and the most to prove, Peter Parker utilizes this space for research and design, an apprenticeship under the watchful eye of his mentor, Iron Man. While his desire to succeed and impress his superhero idols generally outweighs his professional finesse, the atmosphere of being Here where science and Magic converge and history is made is enough to make us forget the world we've left behind entirely. (10:30) Prototypical Spider-Bots run rampant through the WEB open house, where unsuspecting guests are called upon to test the limits of Peter's latest invention to rid the place of the mutating arachnids. Interfacing with the latest Stark technology, we get to be part of the action and sling webs right along with Spider-Man himself. Across the way, at Web Suppliers, the most unfazed among us can interact with and even take home a Spider-Bot of our very own, whether as a token of their accomplishment or a sort of sidekick. Their mechanical clicking redirects our attention this way and that, to street vendors demonstrating their abilities and onto the sides of buildings, where they skitter and scuttle for a better view of visitors below. (13:45) A serene departure from the eight-legged articulation of WEB, a tinkling of strange and ethereal instruments calls us into The Ancient Sanctum of the judicious Doctor Strange. Here, we become cognizant of entering hallowed ground, where immortal ruins liberated from beneath their spells of concealment reveal the presence of Magic in this place. Flowing with an intriguing, pulsating force, the secrets of the mystic arts breathe with the power of the multiverse in this space, echoing with enchantment and a stillness that transcends this world. At nightfall, we are engulfed in a vibrant, violet glow that settles over the temple, bringing it to life in a whole new way. Hidden for centuries in the hills of Los Angeles, The Ancient Sanctum is unveiled for all who desire to find knowledge and enlightenment. It is a transformational space, a sort of phenomenon of tranquility in the midst of so much action and excitement. It all melts away in the glow of the lantern light. Whatever realm of the multiverse we have entered, there is a paradoxical, grounding sense of presence and peace found Here. (18:46) At the heart of Avengers Campus stands the unmistakable, formidable Avengers Headquarters. A shining, slanted “A” leaves no room for misinterpretation: this is where Earth's mightiest heroes gather to train and demonstrate their abilities. The Avengers are almost certainly in residence; the gleaming Quinjet on the roof poised and ready for anything at a moment's notice. Black Widow might be seen scanning the surroundings for oncoming threats from her black Jeep on the South side of Headquarters, and we might even catch Captain America himself on the lookout from several stories up. Captain Marvel, Thor, Ant-Man, Black Panther and so many other iconic members of this elite team can be spotted throughout the day and into the evening, greeting new recruits and standing ready, as ever, for whatever might come. (19:40) Eyes diverted upward on all sides are wide with awe, the quintessential Avengers theme rumbling in our ears. Converging on the line between fantasy and reality, we are transported to some alternate dimension from the one we inhabit. We are standing in tangible awareness that our childhood daydreams are Here, surrounding us, no longer fabrications of our imaginations. We are overwhelmed by a sense of joy that we so often forget in adulthood. It is larger than life, bigger than us, and it was waiting for us all the time. This place could not be described as anything but awesome. (21:35) Speaking of larger than life: as the Avengers campus grew to accommodate more and more universal superpowers, it became apparent to two individuals that they would need to find an efficient way to feed everyone. Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, otherwise known as Ant-Man and The Wasp, came up with the clever concept of PYM's Test Kitchen to meet that need. Here, we find curiously altered comfort foods which have been grown or shrunk by PYM particles to suit each Avenger's appetite. Craving a pretzel the size of Cap's shield? A quantum tunnel will size that up for sharing with our whole crew. How about a Not-So-Little chicken sandwich? The mechanics and science at work in this place even have our experimental concoctions served up on lab paper so we can be part of the project. (24:50) And even though the aroma of freshly baked bread and Impossibly large meatballs is hard to resist, the sound of a friendly, neighborhood voice in the distance brings us back to WEB Headquarters to see what other surprises might be in store. Could it be the web-slinger himself, Spider-Man? (25:18) Indeed, it is! High atop the WEB Headquarters lab, Peter Parker is demonstrating the capabilities of his latest suit prototype for a crowd of admirers. His youthful energy and excitement are infectious, and watching him test his limits is a reminder to all of us that the greatest heroes can come from anywhere, even a tiny apartment in Queens. (27:24) Maybe not all of us dream of being superheroes. Maybe some of us feel heroic when we make it through the day. But if this ragtag bunch of Avengers can teach us anything, it's that gumption and grit will get you farther than whatever advantages you might perceive are the right ones to have. It doesn't matter what your everyday looks like, whether your commute is on a train from Queens to Manhattan or the Bifröst from Asgard, what matters is that you look for possibilities wherever you can. When he finally picked up his pen to tell the story of his own life, Stan Lee said this of the incredible universe he created: “Marvel is a cornucopia of fantasy, a wild idea, a swashbuckling attitude, an escape from the humdrum and the prosaic. It's a serendipitous feast for the mind, the eye, the imagination, a literate celebration of unbridled creativity, coupled with a touch of rebellion and an insolent desire to spit in the eye of the dragon.” That touch of rebellion, that defiance in the wake of all that reality impresses upon our consciousness…that is where time and age cease to have any power over us. That is where our youthful hope remains intact; our desire to celebrate moments big and small. That is the space where inspiration comes to us, where ideas are born. A protective shield and a talisman for the imagination, Here is where Magic assembles right before our eyes, a squadron of defiant dreamers. Be one of them. Be Here With the Magic.

Received praise from critics, especially for Downey's performance. It was selected by the American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of 2008 and received two nominations at the 81st Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects. This is film one of phase one of the marvel cinematic universe, that has since spawned 26 films, with 12 more currently in production. It is the highest-grossing film franchise of all time, having grossed over $23.5 billion at the global box office. This includes Avengers: Endgame, which became the highest-grossing film of all time upon release. First time you saw the movie? Plot:The film opens with Tony Stark, who has inherited Stark Industries from his late father Howard Stark, in war-torn Afghanistan with his friend and military liaison, Lieutenant colonel James "Rhody" Rhodes, to demonstrate the new "Jericho" missile. After the demonstration, the convoy, and Starks fun-vee, not Rhodys hum-drum-vee, is ambushed and Stark is critically wounded by a missile used by the attackers: one of his company's own. He is captured and imprisoned in a cave by a terrorist group called the Ten Rings. A fellow captive and doctor named Yinsen, implants an electromagnet into Stark's chest to keep the shrapnel shards that wounded him from reaching his heart and killing him... Chris, does your implant even do anything like that to keep you alive? Ten Rings leader Raza offers Stark freedom in exchange for building a Jericho missile for the group, but he and Yinsen know that Raza will not keep his word. S:-The music for this movie is PERFECTION.-RDJ, with all of his life issues, was born to play Tony Stark. Stark and Yinsen bond, and secretly build a small, powerful electric generator called an arc reactor to power Stark's electromagnet and a prototype suit of powered armor to aid in their escape. Although they keep the suit hidden almost to completion, the Ten Rings discover their hostages' intentions and attack the workshop like Trey attacks a whole fucking pint of ice cream. Like Treys stomach, Yinsen sacrifices himself to divert the terrorists while the suit powers up. The armored Stark battles his way out of the cave (like the ice cream does to Treys stomach) to find the dying Yinsen, then burns the Ten Rings' weapons in anger and flies away, crashing in the desert and destroying the suit. After being rescued by Rhody, Stark returns home and announces that his company will cease manufacturing weapons. Obadiah Stane, his father's old partner and the company's manager, advises Stark that this may ruin Stark Industries and his father's legacy and urges him to reconsider. In his home workshop, Stark builds a sleeker, more powerful version of his improvised armor suit as well as a more powerful arc reactor for it and his chest. Personal assistant Pepper Potts places the original reactor inside a small glass showcase. Though Stane requests details of the Mk2, a suspicious Stark decides to keep his work to himself. S:-I love the use of all the practical effects. They built a REAL suit, and the mk1 suit was real, too. This is before all the computer animation that makes up most of the movies today, like Shang-Chi (which I watched last night). At a charity event held by Stark Industries, reporter Christine Everhart (the woman from the opening of Trick r Treat) informs Stark that his company's weapons were recently delivered to the Ten Rings and are being used to attack Yinsen's home village, Gulmira. Stark dons his new armor and flies to Afghanistan, where he saves the villagers, and leaves one of the generals to the citizens of the village. Also, one of the BEST visuals, when the tank shoots at him, and he fires a tiny rocket, and walks away when it blows up. While flying home, Stark is attacked by two F-22 Raptors. He reveals his secret identity to Rhodes over the phone in an attempt to end the attack. Meanwhile, the Ten Rings gather the pieces of Stark's prototype suit and meet with Stane, who has been trafficking arms to the Ten Rings and has staged a coup to replace Stark as Stark Industries' CEO by hiring the Ten Rings to kill him. He subdues Raza and has the rest of the group killed. Stane has a massive new suit reverse engineered from the wreckage. Seeking to track his company's illegal shipments, Stark sends Potts to hack into its database. She discovers that Stane hired the Ten Rings to kill Stark, quicker than Tucker could uncover the identity of the famed Opelika Butthole Tickler, who was sneaking into peoples houses, and tickling their buttholes... but the group reneged when they realized they had a direct route to Stark's weapons. Potts meets with Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D., an intelligence agency, to inform him of Stane's activities. S:-Its a classic, and somewhat tropy move to have the partner and manager be the bad guy all along...but it works so well, and Jeff Bridges does it so well. Stane's scientists cannot duplicate Stark's miniaturized arc reactor, so Stane ambushes Stark at his home and steals the one from his chest. Stark manages to get to his original reactor to replace it before dying. Potts and several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents attempt to arrest Stane, but he dons his suit and attacks them. Stark fights Stane but is outmatched without his new reactor to run his suit at full capacity. The fight carries Stark and Stane to the top of the Stark Industries building, and Stark instructs Potts to overload the large arc reactor powering the building. This unleashes a massive electrical surge that causes Stane and his armor to fall into the exploding reactor, killing him. The next day, at a press conference, Stark publicly admits to being the superhero the press has dubbed "Iron Man". In a post-credits scene, S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury visits Stark at home, telling him that Iron Man is not "the only superhero in the world", and explaining that he wants to discuss the "Avenger Initiative". S:-My biggest complaint is the end fight was good, but kinda sucks that we've seen this whole movie building the different suits, prototypes, tests, etc... and then we don't even get to see the fight at full capacity. We don't get to see what the suit can really do. Potts has to help him win. Top Five Trivia of the movie: 5: Rhodys ringtone is the 1966 Iron Man cartoon theme music4:One of the cars in Tony Stark's garage, is a Tesla Roadster, which had not yet been released during the film's production.3: Rock guitarist Tom Morello assisted Ramin Djawadi in composing the film's soundtrack. We try to figure out exactly what Tony and Nick have been talking about these last few minutes. Would Howard and Nick really have had this conversation about Tony being the perfect one to solve the arc reactor power problem? It really doesn't make sense. So that means Nick's lying... and Tony likely knows but is interested anyway. So that's pretty interesting... right? And how old are Nick and Howard anyway? And Coulson? He's not here for that.
Don Cheadle is epic being epic! They're rolling tanks up the PCH! PIVOT! As exciting as Tony getting chewed out may be, watching Tony take the emotional hit is a highlight of this sequence. CGI wonder-work in the palladium core and no, it probably shouldn't be smoking.

Sean answers your Marvel questions!0:24 Alex WardHey Sean! Thanks so much for all the great Captain Marvel content this weekend! I really appreciate that you waited till Sunday so we could all get our questions in.1) Just out of curiosity, and it's totally fine if you don't remember, but did you know about Carol's call sign being Avenger when I asked why they're called the Avengers in a Q and A a couple months ago? Like I said last week, you had a good answer, so I'm extra impressed if you were also tiptoeing around that spoiler!1:28 Alex Ward2) Did you hear any fake rumors about Captain Marvel that didn't pan out? If so, what were they? I heard one that said Carol was actually from the modern era, but after getting her powers from the Quantum Realm, she was accidentally sent back to 1995 with amnesia about her past.3:06 Alex Ward3) Have you seen and/or liked anything else from Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck? I just found out they wrote and directed Mississippi Grind, which is one of my favorite movies. Also, do you think they'll get to direct Captain Marvel 2?6:50 Alex Ward4) Since Goose was sort of a given, I would argue that Talos was the surprise hit character in Captain Marvel. When do you think we'll see him again? Is there any part of you that laments Ben Mendelsohn not getting a "famous" character in the MCU, or are you cool with him being Talos since the MCU is so good at elevating characters who aren't as memorable in the comics? 9:35 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean! Hope y'all are all having a good week so far!So last Q&A show you mentioned that you feel it is more than a coincidence now in regards to female lead superhero films being set in the past/ being prequels in their respective universes. Why do you think that is? Any specific reason(s) you think? Do you think studios just saw how well WW did in a pre era type film and decided to kinda, for lack of a better term, “copy” that model?14:41 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean how is your week hope it is good. Anyways after seeing Captain Marvel three times now, I was thinking I would love to see the Skrulls again but this time as villains, do you think for Avengers 5 they could do Secret Invasion?? Say the X Men and Fantastic Four join in as well to stop the new threat of the Skrulls. Also do you think Talos's daughter could turn out to be Veranke?? Thoughts??17:55 Chris FHey Sean! One question today. So in Iron Man all those years ago Coulson says he's from the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division, to which Pepper makes a joke that they should really shorten it. Thus later on it's called shield. However in Captain Marvel Fury is calling it shield through the movie to various people and they all seem to somewhat understand what it is.Do you view this as a minor continuity error or is Coulson just trying to be formal. I find it odd he would say the whole thing instead of just calling it shield. Thanks and have a great week!21:33 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and everyone, hope you're all having a good week so far (and if you're seeing Captain Marvel, then you'll definitely be having a good week!)Sean, a quick question about the Avengers Endgame Art of the Movie book. Do you have any info on a release date at all? Here in the UK we have the ‘Road to Avengers Endgame' Art of the Movie available to pre-order on Amazon, but not the Endgame specific book, so I wondered if there was anything happening with this in the US market that you were aware of?Thanks for your time as always, and best wishes to you and all the patrons.25:18 Woo S! KimThere has been so much talk since the cancellation of the Marvel Netflix's shows and now this is just my point of view and I realize that the tones of the shows are different but I think Hulu has been a much better network than Netflix was in terms of embracing the source material and not kidding themselves into believing “this isn't a superhero show,” whereas Netflix like you have commented in the past Sean, that an explanation of why “The Defenders” characters for the most part weren't in costumes may have been because of Netflix, am I way off in my assessment?27:14 Woo S! KimSean, if I could choose any three Marvel Comics superpower and or weapon they would have to be Tony's Mark Fifty Armor, Spider-Man's Strength, and Daredevil's Heightened Senses. What about you and yes armors/suits count as weapons?28:39 Woo S! KimThere has been so many adaptations of famous Wolverine comic book stories thanks to FOX Studios is they are any that come to your mind that haven't been done that you would like to see Marvel Studios do Sean, the one that comes to my mind is one featuring Alpha Flight now some may say “X-Men: Origins” had Alpha Flight, my counter argument would be I didn't see a ten foot tall Orange Big Foot in that movie, what are your thoughts, would you like to see a live action Alpha Flight?29:50 William Ford-ConwayHey Sean! Been absent from the Q&A for some time but still been tuning in. Great to be back and thanks for keeping the Marvel talk alive and well! Happy to report that I loved Captain Marvel for many of the same reasons you pointed. I am glad you pointed out the tired criticsm of the "Marvel Formula" once again. I, like you have always thought this was an overplayed (if not generally weak) argument against Marvel but seeing it labeled on Captain Marvel was the final straw for me simply not take the criticism even remotely seriously anymore. I have to be candid and say that blaming stuff on "formula" shows a very weak understanding of story. I feel that way too often do people conflate criticism and analysis with being able to identify tropes, and the more tropes you see the weaker the story. This doesn't hold water from me because it ignores ALL the other aspects that make a story. I never want to be the guy who says people don't "get it" but it's just getting tiring to see people boil down these stories to un-nuanced factors. Heck, I loved Spider-Verse, but you could have easily said THAT just followed the Superhero origin formula. Anyways that's my rant and would love to hear your extended thoughts on the matter and why so many pick and choose (and frankly target Marvel) with this criticism.35:04 AlexSean, when I saw Stan Lee's cameo in Captain Marvel he was rehearsing his lines for Mallrats. If you recall Stan's famous cameo in Mallrats then you remember that scene explicitly acknowledged him as the creator of several Marvel characters including ones that already exist in the MCU as real people like the Hulk and Spider-Man and not fictional characters that they are in our world. So do you think the version of Mallrats in the MCU omits references to any Marvel characters and Stan Lee is the co-creator of something else in the MCU? Maybe Stan Lee in the MCU actually went on to become a successful novelist who wrote the great American novel who managed to leave comics early unlike our world's Stan Lee. I'm overthinking it because its fun. 36:10 AlexShould Reed and Sue be already married by the time we meet them in the MCU or do you prefer they're not not an item just yet? 36:36 Jeremy WatsonCan you please explain what Ronan's role within the Kree empire is? I know he is an accuser but how is that different from the Star Force?37:35 Jeremy WatsonIn the MCU, has the light speed engine been developed? It appeared that the Krees method of transportation was similar to that in Guardians, with the jumps from sector to sector. But when Carol left with the Skrulls to find a new home it didn't look like the hexagon portal opening (but I could be remembering wrong). 38:52 Jeremy WatsonShould we assume that Howard Stark worked on Project Pegasus with Mar-Vell?40:15 Jeremy WatsonFinally, with the final season of Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame set to take place in April, do you think April will be considered one of the greatest months in entertainment history? Thanks for your great insight and keep up the great work!41:52 Xavier ArquerosHello Sean and fellow Patrons, I'm finding myself in a strange situation with Captain Marvel. After the first viewing I felt a little disappointed, I expected a few more action beats during the movie, a lot of the action we have in it is with Shaky Cam which I've hated since the Bourne movies, and I didn't think there was enough of Hala and the Kree culture. However after seeing the movie five times already, I don't care about any of that any more, I just love the movie and it's characters. Have you ever had a feeling like this with any other MCU movie? That watching it a bunch of times you forget about what you dislike and just enjoy so much the movie that every new viewing makes you love it even more. Because I think this is my first time. I thought a second or third viewing would be enough, now I'm thinking when can I go again! Cheers everyone!45:55 AlexHey Sean, when the deal closes next week does that mean Feige will get the rights immediately after that or do you think it will take awhile for Feige to get access to those properties even with the Fox deal closing? How will the rights to transfer over to Marvel Studios?48:31 Derek BeebeHey Sean, What do you know about the falling out between Marvel and Jon Favreau? Was it over the rushed schedule of Iron Man 2? Wasn't he supposed to direct the Avengers? Has he had any involvement since then?55:04 Derek BeebeWhat do you know about the falling out between Marvel and Joss Whedon? Was it over the forced franchise inclusion of Age of Ultron? Was he supposed to direct Avengers 3? Has he had any involvement since then?1:01:51 Derek BeebeGiven that Joss created Agents of SHIELD, wrote the pilot, and put his brother in charge of the show, do you think Joss' departure from Marvel was a contributing factor to SHIELD becoming so disconnected from the MCU?1:03:35 Derek BeebeI was listening to an earlier episode where you lamented Maria Hill's characterization in The Avengers. I recall in deleted scenes we saw an original version of the character who was much more suspicious and adversarial, like in the comics. Do you know why this was changed?1:04:26 bryan smithHey Sean hope your having a good week. Captain moving was a all around great movie in my opinion. I have two questions for you this week . 1) do you think Marie Rambou was dusted during infinity war? 2) was I the only one who notice captain marvel looked like she been through a battle on the post credits scene?1:05:38 Hector Giovanni NavarreteSo I watched CM again and loved it more the second time round. This might be minor tbh but I thought of it while watching the film. How does CM's helmet actually work? Like is it for breathing? She uses it in the beginning on the mission on Torfa and then she uses it again when she blasts open the Skrulls' ship. Then at the end of the film when she is flying in space and on earth she uses it again. It's not until the end of the film when she is leaving to go on her mission to find a new home with the Skrulls that she doesn't use the helmet in space. Why do you think that is? Continuity error, wanting to show the actors' face at the end of the movie or since she is binary she doesn't need the helmet to breathe in space?1:08:35 AlexSean, I wonder if you and Paul will ever do a X-Men on Film retrospective series that discusses the history of the X-Men franchise and speculate on the new era of the X-Men movies under Marvel Studios?1:10:01 AlexWhat's your anticipation level for the Morbius film that Sony is doing?1:10:23 AlexDo you think there's something poetic about Marvel getting the rights back to Fantastic Four and X-Men in the same year Endgame which will mark the end of the MCU as we know it? Is it the best possible time for X-Men and Fantatsic Four to return home or do you think it should've happened a bit earlier? 1:13:33 David RosenAfter CM, it seems like there is still some story to tell for Nick Fury between the end of CM and when we first met him in Iron Man. I don't believe he'll get his own movie at this point, but do you think we'll get a chance to see some of those years, and how he went from a wise-cracking, suit and tie-wearing agent, to bad-ass, dressed in all black Director of SHIELD? Do you think Fury's transition to wearing all black could just be to create a persona that goes along with him missing an eye? Do you think it's even important for us to see any of those years or can they just be left to our imagination or filled in with some dialogue somewhere? What would you be interested to see during those years?1:16:18 David RosenDo you think we'll get to see the scene in End Game when Carol learns that Fury's team is called The Avengers and what do you think her reaction will be, assuming that she realizes the team was named after her.1:18:01 AlexDoes it matter to you that Reed Richards have gray temples in the MCU or do you think it's such a superficial, inessential aspect of the character enough that the MCU can get away with not having them?1:19:22 David RosenI have to admit that I was a little confused at first about how the Tesseract was being used in the movie for Mar-Vell's plan, and without the context of the rest of the MCU, I don't think the movie works as well. For example, I started thinking about it's other appearances and uses in the MCU, and how it's been used as both a power source and to open up portals in space. I've heard some people call it a plothole that Mar-Vel's plan isn't necessary since the movie shows how it's possible to travel long distances via the space honeycomb; but Yondu, Rocket, and Groot showed us that that method has its limitations. As Thanos and Loki showed that the Tesseract can be used to open portals and travel vast distances instantaneously without any bodily harm, I think part of her plan was to use its energy to do something similar. Is that your understanding of how she was planning to use the Tesseract? And in regards as to why she decided to sneak it off earth, if she did work for SHIELD at some point, she might have read about how Hydra used the Tesseract to make weapons during WWII. If she read about that, and perhaps even found out about SHIELD's intent to try and develop similar weapons (what we come to know as Phase 2), she might have taken it upon herself to sneak it off of Earth and use it to save lives rather than allow it to be used to destroy them.I say all of that to ask you this, with all its previous history, did the Tesseract's inclusion give you any more understanding or insight into its true nature or into any other history in the MCU? Since you didn't really get a chance to talk a lot about the inclusion of the Tesseract in Captain Marvel in your discussion with Paul, can I simply ask you now to share some additional/extended thoughts about its inclusion in the movie, either connected to, or entirely independent of, some of my ideas above?1:26:11 David RosenAs I mentioned above how, at least for me, previous movies helped inform some things for Captain Marvel, do you think all future movies will continue to be enriched by what's come before? When and how do you think it can eventually become too convoluted with too much history to keep track of? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Sean answers your Marvel questions!3:05 Jim ScroggsDo you know if AMC A List reservations are counted toward pre-sale ticket numbers?3:56 Jim ScroggsWith Rhodes in the Air Force and considering his age, is it possible that he and Carol might have crossed paths?4:48 Jim ScroggsDo you see Marvel adding a character with Marines and/or Naval background to complete the service academy representation5:26 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and patrons, happy Captain Marvel weekend!! I've been MIA recently from these Q&A's, but I've been listening in and enjoying the conversations (and Sean's answers of course!) here and on the Discord. Whilst I've not been joining in much lately, this great community has kept me going over some difficult recent weeks, so a big thank you to you all!So, Captain Marvel huh...? Wow, I just love this film so much - I've seen it twice in 24 hours thanks to some careful scheduling and it's just perfect. Brie Larson is just exceptional as Carol Danvers, I feel she embodies the character from the comics so well, whilst bringing her own qualities to the role. From the Stan Lee tribute at the start (very emotional and wonderfully inventive) this movie never missed a beat throughout.Whilst I know it's still very early to be making lots of judgements on various aspects of the movie, I'm keen to know if there was any stand out scene for you Sean, that you either never saw coming or was just a particular highlight? Thanks as always for your time, and hope everyone gets to go higher further faster with this awesome movie!13:27 brentacPrimeCaptain Marvel spoiler question. What was the biggest surprise for you?15:18 Robert KlauserWhat's up Sean? Do you think that there's a setup for Carol similar to Scarlett Witch? We see that Mar Vel was in possession of the tesseract and I believe she used that to make her FTL ship and that's where Carol got her powers from when she shot that energy core. So the setup would be that Carol Danvers can somehow destroy the space stone because her powers might have the same signature as the space stone. Do you think that this is theory is something they could allude to in Endgame or is this more of a “been there don't that” with Wanda and the Mind Stone?18:31 Matt OswaldWe know that SHIELD was in possession of the Tesseract after Howard Stark recovered it, and Loki stole it from a Project Pegasus facility in the Avengers. It is obvious that Fury did not know the real Identity of Lawson even though he at least knew of the existence of Pegasus. Do you think any of the top brass at SHIELD knew her real identity?19:46 Matt OswaldOne of the things that has bothered me a little about Captain Marvel is the apparent lack of security around the Tesseract at Project Pegasus. We know at the start of the Avengers that there are SHIELD agents like Hawkeye assigned to guard the Tesseract. Apparently during the 90's security was a little more lax around the project since Lawson was able to take the tesseract out of the facility, and to her Kree space ship/lab. It seems like somone should have noticed that the Tesseract was missing from the facility. One might be able to reason that after the crash, it was believed that the Tesseract was destroyed in the crash. But we don't see any evidence in the film that before the crash anyone even noticed it was gone. Am I reading too much into this?22:51 Mookie JohnsonDo you feel the way that Captain Marvel ended reduces the chances the secret invasion is a pursued storyline?25:13 Woo S! KimWho between these two characters Agent Peggy Carter and Agent Phil Coulson are you more surprised by their popularity and how they are really embedded in the MCU and why? My vote is for Phil Coulson do you have any other characters like Coulson or Peggy Carter that when they originally appeared in the MCU you are surprised how narratively and how long they have managed to stay integral parts of the MCU and or fan favourites? 28:42 Woo S! KimI am not stating this character is needed in the X-Men/Avengers going forward Sean, but what do you think the chances because the heroes will be messing with time in “Avengers: End Game” of Aaron Taylor Johnson's QuickSilver to return after the events of “Avengers: End Game?” Should he brought back or would you rather keep that character dead?29:56 Woo S! KimSean, let's say for argument sake that “Spider-Man: Far From Home” moved to February 2020 “Avengers: End Game” moved to Christmas 2019 and Star Wars: Episode IX took the late April 2019 spot would Box Office numbers change at all, if this were done why or why not?31:05 Mookie JohnsonDo you think Captain Marvel 2 has room for Ms Marvel and Photon to join in?32:48 Mookie JohnsonI love how Captain Marvel's movie was also is some way a Nick Fury/Modern Day Shield/Avengers initiative story also. Could you share some of your thoughts on that idea?35:53 AlexDo you think the Fox deal that will grant Marvel access to so many more characters could lessen Marvel's willingness to cooperate with Sony past Far From Home especially if Sony starts mandating that they start integrating SMCU characters like Venom and Morbius? 37:25 David RosenHey Sean, I know you were really looking forward to seeing how they treated the Kree Supreme Intelligence. Even though we didn't get the giant floating head, are you satisfied with what we did get?39:50 Tom DeMicheleSince all of SHIELD's information was leaked in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, does the world know about Captain Marvel? Fury may not have divulged what happened in the film's final act, but there were plenty of other witnesses early on.By the way, this is an exciting time for the Discord, and I encourage all Patrons to join the fun conversation over there with us!43:01 Robert KlauserNot a serious question or anything like that. But, can't we let Thor and the Asgardians off of the hook for the Phase 2 weapons? It seems Fury knew we were “hopelessly and hilariously outgunned” since 1995.44:35 Xavier ArquerosI liked the movie, not as much as I hoped (which was a lot), but it's good. I have a lot of questions, but the only one that concerns me is when will the sequel take place, because it's seems that Yon-Rogg and Ronan have an agenda against Carol but I'm not the biggest fan on an other MCU movie set in the past, I hope Captain Marvel 2 is set post-Endgame. What do you think Sean? I would watch it nevertheless, but you know, Let's move forward. Cheers!48:40 AlexSean, I know that you had Bill Hader as one of your top castings for Reed Richards but I unfortunately I just don't see it. He looks the part sure, but nothing I've seen of Bill Hader so far has left me with the impression he'd make a good Reed. He just strikes me as too comedic an actor to play a serious role like Reed Richards who isn't normally intentionally funny so may I ask what movies or shows that you've seen Mr. Hader in that makes you think he'd be a fit for the role?49:42 Hector Giovanni NavarreteHey Sean! I enjoyed CM! Thought it was great!I have a couple of questions about Goose the cat. I know they probably aren't big deals in the grand scheme of things in the MCU but they are questions I came up with nonetheless lol.So we first see Goose at the Pegasus facility and it seems like she/he knows Carol cause it walks up to her first as if recognizing Carol. So do you think it used to be Carol's pet and if so how did Carol come to have an alien as a pet? Or do you believe it was Mar-Vell's pet since she was Kree so most likely Mar-Vell would've potentially brought an alien pet from space ?So at the end of CM, Fury seems to keep Goose, so where has Goose been all this time in the present day MCU? Still with Fury?52:06 Alex WardHey Sean! First of all, thank you for doing these q and A's. They've answered so many lingering questions about the MCU for me and deepened my interest in Marvel to an insane degree. That being said, you might remember my question a while ago about what the Avengers are "avenging." You had an awesome answer, but thanks to that little discussion, the final scene in Captain Marvel impacted me on a much deeper level; it gave me goosebumps just as I'm sure it did a lot of fans. My question is, if Fury came up with the Avengers Initiative in 1995, did it really take him over ten years to find his first Avenger? Do you think there were any hiccups before Iron Man, perhaps that we'll see filled in in the Black Widow movie or something? Thanks Sean!55:09 Alex WardHow did you feel about the way the Skrulls were handled? I know the Skrulls and the Kree can be good and bad in the comics, but I love this new dynamic.55:46 Alex WardOne non Captain Marvel question--how would you age the new generation of the MCU? For example, should the FF skew younger like the Ultimate comics so they can stick around longer, or should they be older? Also, how old is too old for Reed? He's gotta hang on to those greying temples; it'd be blasphemy if he'd ever go full silver fox like how Mark Ruffalo seems to be heading.58:07 Alex WardI know folks have been throwing around the idea of the FF being a period piece, but what do you think about the idea of the FF being from the modern era, but accidentally getting stuck in the 60s and getting famous there (maybe by introducing "advanced" modern technology), before traveling back to modern day?59:40 Michael Louis WeaselboyHey Sean how was your week?? Anyways I saw Captain Marvel of course, opening night I loved it. You were right that really is the best crowd to watch an MCU film, I saw it in the big IMAX theater in Tempe, Arizona and that crowd was so ecstatic, I can't wait to watch Endgame there next month, the crowd went crazy during the Marvel Studios logo at the beginning and a loud clap when it said "Thank you Stan". Anyways my question is when do you think a sequel will be set?? Could it be with the 23 years she was off earth? or should it be set after in the post endgame MCU?? Who do you think could be the villain? Thoughts??1:02:46 Mookie JohnsonDo you have a Captain Marvel costume preference between the red/blue towards the end of the movie and the post-credit outfit?
