The Education Research Reading Room podcast is a must-listen for anyone in the field of education who is serious about improving outcomes for children. With its informative episodes, valuable advice, and diverse perspectives, this podcast offers a wealth of knowledge that will leave listeners wanting more. Whether you're an educator, researcher, or someone interested in the science behind learning, this podcast provides research-informed strategies that challenge conventional wisdom. It goes beyond the usual "waffle" and delves into practical approaches based on cutting-edge research.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the caliber of its guests. The host, Oliver Caviglioli, consistently brings on world leaders in education who are at the forefront of driving positive change in the field. These experts offer unique insights that we may not encounter in our usual professional learning experiences. For example, if you work in assistive technology or special education like me, you'll find that many of these guests bring fresh ideas and perspectives to your specific area of focus. This podcast serves as a reminder of why we entered the field of education and helps us apply big ideas about learning to our daily practice.
Another standout feature of this podcast is its ability to provide research-focused content without sacrificing depth or clarity. Each episode is well-prepared by the host, who listens attentively to his guests and regularly summarizes key points to maintain listener focus. These summaries not only reveal important information but also encourage further clarification from both guests and host alike. The subject matter and choice of guests ensure that listeners receive a comprehensive look into the purpose, craft, and science behind education, teaching, and learning.
While it's challenging to find any faults with this podcast, one potential downside could be its overwhelming volume of information for some listeners. With so many insightful episodes available, it can be difficult to know where to start or which topics might be most relevant to your needs. However, once you dive into an episode, you'll quickly realize that the wealth of information is worth the initial overwhelm. The content is valuable and provides a deep understanding of educational research, making it an excellent resource for educators looking to improve their practice.
In conclusion, The Education Research Reading Room podcast is an extraordinary resource that offers a depth of knowledge and expertise unlike any other in the field of education. With its exceptional lineup of guests, carefully prepared interviews, and focus on research-backed ideas and strategies, this podcast surpasses many traditional professional development avenues. Whether you're a new teacher or a seasoned educator seeking to enhance your skills, this podcast will provide invaluable insights and inspiration. I feel fortunate to have discovered this gem among the vast sea of education podcasts and highly recommend it to all those passionate about improving education outcomes for children.

He's an extremely popular on teacher social media and has had a huge impact on education both locally and internationally through his writings, books, podcast, and talks. His book, Teaching Secondary Science, is a must-have for anyone who is keen for a great overview of a structured and systematic approach to teaching high school science, and I can highly recommend Adam's other outputs too. This podcast was prompted when I recently explored a fantastic bit of edtech initiated by Adam, Carousel, which is an excellent knowledge management platform to help students to learn and master key knowledge that is fundamental to their success. Off the back of that, I was really keen to get Adam onto the podcast to discuss how he uses the first 10 minutes of a lesson to embed such knowledge… and I'm so glad I did! I hope you love it too See full show notes at www.ollielovell.com/adamboxer
