POPULARITY
We revive our Global Selection series with a standout contribution from one of France's most authoritative selectors of his generation, Ivan Smagghe. Ahead of his return to Dublin for Big Dish Go this weekend at Centre Point, Smagghe delivers a masterful hour of storytelling through sound. From shimmering downtempo rarities to deep, driving house cuts and smoky, electro-kissed grooves, his mix unfolds like the hazy soundtrack to a foggy morning in the hills of an undisclosed rave, transporting you there, or wherever your wandering mind takes you. Few DJs can transform obscurity into dancefloor gold like Ivan Smagghe. With a musical ethos reminiscent of the late, great Andrew Weatherall, Smagghe acts as a raw conduit, channelling his notoriously esoteric record collection into the pulsing bodies beneath the strobe. His latest mix is yet another example of his singular talent—a deep dive into the avant-garde fringes of electronic music, held together by an intuitive understanding of groove and space. Smagghe has long been at the intersection of Parisian hype and unwavering musical integrity. From his pioneering work with Black Strobe to his boundary-pushing productions as one half of It's A Fine Line, he has received praise from some of the most respected names in electronic music, including James Murphy, Trevor Jackson, Ata, Optimo, and, of course, Weatherall himself. What is their shared mission? To demonstrate that electronic music is more than just a hedonistic soundtrack; it is a constantly evolving art form. “I have very fond, if a bit blurred, memories of the Big Dish Go parties in the basement of Kennedy's… Loud and wild they were but we live in the now and we must let that spirit live on. It's just about freedom, in that mix (who cares what style it is) and in that ephemeral companionship with David Holmes. Freedom & Love” Ivan Smagghe --------------- SC: @colonelgatito IG: www.instagram.com/ivan_smggh_jmm/ Four Four Magazine --------------------------- FB: www.facebook.com/FOURFOURDANCE/ IG: www.instagram.com/fourfourmagazine/ Web: www.fourfourmag.com/

… De fanfarecultuur is erkend Immaterieel Cultureel Erfgoed … Archief https://ikwashier.live

Greetings from Northern Yorkshire! Seems to be a beautiful place, though I don't really see much of it as I'm exclusively focused on my music projects, finishing loads of tracks and creating other kind of content. I'm staying with my friend Sam in the property where his grand-parents used to live, before some other people will write a new chapter of this house. Yesterday I finished a new track called "Scarabée Égyptien" to be released as part of a Various Artists compilation on Diffract Records. I'm happy to share the tracklist with people like Mononome, my bros Nectvr and ea and Dirty Art. You might have noticed how I love to add either movie dialogs, field recordings or some bits of private conversations I have on the phone or in real life. In this one, you'll hear myself talking on the phone with my younger niece. She'll be 9 in March. She couldn't believe I went to England because "it's not possible. You don't know how to speak English." She's very creative. We can't hear that part, but she started the call pretending she was the police and that I've been flashed driving too fast. I took the picture from the covert art in Portishead. The walking man is my bro Barnaby Carter. You can hear the track 'They’ll Come With Joy' from his first album at the very end of this mix. He's finishing his second full-length, to be released in the Summer hopefully. I’d like to express my gratitude towards Barny for hosting me in Bristol while I organise my new life in the UK. I feel that this city is a perfect home for my music and overall creativity, and I’m lucky to have a good friend in this part of the world. I actually got to know Barnaby because he discovered Eclectic Soul back in 2012 and sent me an e-mail to share his appreciation. Damn, been eight years already! Enjoy the music, keep your mind and body fit 🕊 If you want to download all my mixes (almost 100!) in high quality 320kbps mp3 and get the full timestamped tracklists, you'll appreciate becoming a patron. There are also some exclusive mixes never to be publicly released! As usual, Ninja Crew and Wolf Pack patrons can find the 320kbps mp3 to download in the Google Drive Archives. What's your favourite track from this show? Let me know by sending me an e-mail at costalsmusic@gmail.com and share the last piece of music you discovered!

Not all heroes wear capes. Harry James is the man behind the Snap Crackle & Pop (SC&P) brand well known to Londoners for their consistent delivery of alternative/leftfield dance music performers. The Waiting Room in particular has become a second home for many and line up has already included such legends as Ivan Smagghe, Vladimir Ivkovic, Inga Mauer, Tolouse Low Trax, Cosmo Vitelli, Manfredas, C.A.R., Alex Egan, and many more people, some rarely visiting UK in general. From all of us here at Parabox - huge THANK YOU for that! SC&P has recently launched a record label as well. First release featured an EP from The Junto Club, with remixes from Smagghe & Cross and Khidja and the second by Deeds with some amazing originals and remixed. Harry is also a great Dj and selector, and this is what we are going to try and extract from him in this episode. An hours selection of influences from the man himself following some music from our HQ.
Roll up, roll up, this one is worth some attention. Martyn Lester is a man of mystery, a throwback character with a penchant for retro synths and the energy of youth. Drawing upon inspiration from the days of Italo and the early days of Ibiza he has hand crafted a sound which is far beyond his own assumption. Appearances on Ruf Kutz, Blip Discs and in the coming weeks Ransom Note Records play testament to his taste and style in the form of a remix of Ivan Smagghe and Rupert Cross aka Smagghe and Cross's Talking To Katz EP. I mean, why else would we sign him? As a disc jockey Glowing Palms is diverse and entertaining, as much about the Saturday night soundtrack as the vintage mixtape. A true selector in the most humble of senses.
If you haven't heard this name yet, you are seriously living under a rock. The man behind Les Disques De La Mort label. A&R for Kill The Dj. Half of It's a Fine Line. Half of Smagghe & Cross. Endless amazing remixes, and edits over the years. Host of Channeling radio show on NTS alongside Nathan Gregory Wilkins. A man with a thousand stories to tell. Yes, Mr Ivan Smagghe is joining us to talk about influential records. His hour follows after a selection of new and old music from ourselves.
“Under the name Astronomer, Alex Egan has been a prolific remixer, lending his musical persona to the likes of The Foals, The XX and Joakim. His latest project, The Draughtsman, might finally let us see Egan in 360 degrees: “Geschmacklos,” presented by the very cool Marketing Music label as an EP in multiple parts, is the producer’s highest-profile solo tune yet, and it seems to let loose all the personality he’s stored up in his years spent tinkering in the background.” Jordan Rothlein for Resident Advisor iTunes / RSS / Newsletter Marketing Music Podcast - Jul 12 by Alex Egan on Mixcloud Download (Right Click / Ctrl Click + Save Link As…) TRACKLISTING 01. Fellow Brussels City residents Thomas Sari & DC Salas met as equal sound & music enthusiasts in 2010 while hanging out in the backyard of a local dance club. A union was born of that evening that birthed a quality collaboration. “Polar” is all about the balance of complimentary sounds, the celebratory stasis of where old school groove meets new school electronic structure, a marriage that creates a very special and fulfilling rhythm. “Polar” is an audible product of inspiration & multiple enigmatic influences. Joined as mutually ignited sound science freaks, these two have been enjoying and creating funkin’ loud fun since day one, in the lab and in the club, as you can hear with this podcast and their forthcoming EP for Marketing Music. iTunes / RSS / Newsletter Download (Right Click / Ctrl Click + Save Link As…)
