Get Out The House!

Well everyone, this is it, the season 3 finale! And to celebrate we watched a trulky baffling movie, our favorite kind! 1998's Urban Legend is, well, not good. But boy is it 90 minutes long! This film asks the brave question, what if Jared Leto was a good guy all along? Turns out in that world, people die. Whoops! Not all that glitters is gold, this is what the GOTHs learned discussing 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street. This movie is a classic, but in our opinion, maybe moreso because of what it got going than this film itself necessarily. The effects and performances are grade A but...well, we'll talk about it. We'll cover everything you need to know and also of course talk about Freddy and his Looney Tune antics. ***Content Warning! As is it a major part of the story, the topic of Sexual Assault is BRIEFLY mentioned on this podcast but not dwelled upon. You don't need three guys opinions on that aspect of this, many more educated and brilliant people have written about that. Feel free to skip through that part of our pod if needed***

The GOTHs take on one of 2023's best and scariest, Talk to Me. The episode opens with a verbal threat from Zannie to Ash for making him and Nick watch this movie. Everyone in this movie got hooked on Hand. Don't do Hand! Not even once. Hand's bad for your health. Enjoy!

Our resident white person Nick Jones could not join us, so me and Zannie took the opportunity to watch the incredible cult hit Green Room without him. Why? Because the bad guys are Nazis, and the crux of the podcast is Nick defends the white characters and ya know what we just didn't want to put him in that position this week lmao this episode is incredible if we do say so ourselves, Ash and Zannie were locked in- ENJOY!

The GOTH crew takes on 2023's No One Will Save You, an unexpected late summer hit with minimal dialogue. These aliens knocked on the wrong door, this woman got that dawg in her. 

Today is Friday the 13th, 2023! And to celebrate, we're going back to Camp Crystal Lake. For us, like many of our listeners, if Halloween is Christmas then Friday the 13th is Thanksgiving and today, everybody gets a plate. Our wonderful producer Kimberly Henry introduces this re-release of one of our favorite episodes of the podcast, you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll wish your team had taken Jason Voorhees in the first round. Lock those doors and turn up the volume and maybe just maybe don't go camping in a place where dozens of teens have been murdered by the LeBron James of Slashers. 

The GOTHs return to tackle 2023's very whacky The Pope's Exorcist. This title barely makes sense but trust me once you you'll understand... the Vatican got shooters. And we got a Black Bishop in here, alright! We also preview our friend and artist Guthrie Galileo's new single Bonedance (streaming on all platforms now!) off his incredible upcoming EP "The Angels Will Never Wear White Again" dropping October 27th. The GOTH boys are split over 2022's sleeper hit BARBARIAN, but in the end we come together in harmony because life's too short to start a podcast with your gd boys and tell them they're wrong for not liking a movie for 2 hours...

This episode was recorded in the summer of 2020 while we were still figuring out what the heck we were doing with this podcast. The audio is not up to our usual standards, but we love the ep and wanted to share a lil behind the curtains look at our beginnings, part of the classic horror origin story if you will. GOTH returns to you and yours this week with a ~*powerful*~ episode on the modern horror classic The Conjuring. Nick and Zannie, who famously love horror movies, were absoltely terrfied by this film, making for a great episode. We also spend a good chunk of time discussing why all horror movies are set in New England rather than say, the south. Do you have a guess? I bet you you can guess!

This week the GOTH boys take on the original sequel the Halloween. Is this movie good? Not really. Is it fun? I mean kind of? Does it make sense? I mean, does life make sense? Join us on our deep dive of the continued suburban nightmare plaguing the quaint town of Haddonfield as we dare to ask the question, is White Privilege what keeps Michael Myers alive? Hard to prove, yet harder to disprove. 

You didn't think we'd go a full October without getting back in your rotation did you? The GOTH Crew is back to review one of our faovrite movies yet, the Predator prequel PREY! This episode was also recorded the day The Queen died so there's some interesting intersectionality here (read: Zannie lit her ass up). We hope you enjoy.

This weeks the GOTH Boys are joined by friend of the pod Carl Sonnefeld! Nick has White Guy back up and we're tackling James Wan's throwback pulp horror film Malignant. I'll tell you what, we loved this batshit insane movie. Carl's just wrapped up a weekend featuring at Vermont Comedyb Club and he's been absolutely dying to ask Zannie if its okay for him to do impressions of the Black detective in this movie as long as they're done respectfully. I guess we'll find out!

This week the GOTH Boys are joined by the hilarious Jerah Milligan, who you know from Astronomy Club on Netflix and the hugely popular podcast, Black Men Can't Jump in Hollywood! Let this blurb serve as a formal apology for having such a great guest watch such an awful movie. Running a cool slim hour fifteen, at the end of the day we can all agree that this was in fact, a movie. Kind of. 

Let us bring you back to the year 2007, truly a simpler time. The GOTH Boys walk through one of the biggest hits of the year, the truly uninspired Paranormal Activity. I'll be transparent, this is Ash writing the blurb. Is it fair to call the movie uninspired? Definitely not. Objectively they did a great job. But there's a little extra haterade because I truly could not stand this movie, I cannot tell a lie!

This week the GOTH Boys take on A Haunting in Connecticut- a horror movie where the family literally has two homes and they choose to stay in the haunted one, possibly because the alcoholic patriarch lives in the non-haunted house...and aren't the real demons our own? No. It's the real actual evil demons. Every time. 

We are offically kicking off Season 2 of Get Out The House with a monster premiere episode covering the surprisingly chilling Annabelle comes home! Annabelle has a horde of ghosts at her disposal that she'll unleash on our unsuspecting white people and its all because a few other white people couldn't mind their own business and stay out the ghost garage, we've heard this story before! 

Happy October! The GOTH Crew is back to review the seminal cult classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space. This movie surfaced many deep complicated feelings surrounding clowns and circuses to emerge from each of us, except for Zannie. Zannie felt nothing but contempt for this film, but you'll enjoy hearing his grievances. 1977's Suspiria is a horror classic. A dreamlike nightmare where we the viewer follow our protagonist as she goes to Germany to study at a prestigious ballet school. Unfortunately, the only partner these ballerinas have is...the Devil! That was pretty good right? I felt good about it. After a little time off we are BACK in a big big way- we're tackling 2009's eclectic reboot of Friday the 13th. This franchise introduced the world to undead slasher Jason Vorhees, and this reboot asks the question "how would this movie change if Jason was 6'9 with a 48" vertical and 3.8 40 yard dash?" Was this a good movie? No. But it was absolutely a blast to watch.

Now that October is behind us, we return this week to get on track with our bi-monthly release schedule! We're talking Clive Barker's 1987 showstopper, Hellraiser. This movie is, quite frankly, the horniest movie we've ever seen. Everyone's horny! The main characters, the villains, the demons (who are kind of separate from the bad guys I guess?) And out of all that horniness comes a movie that is legitimately terrifying. There's as thin line between pleasure and pain, let's ride it! This week we discuss Wes Craven's 1977 thriller The Hills Have Eyes. Is this even a horror movie? We're not sure. This entire movie could've been avoided the family had just stayed on the main road. Nick had no issue with them going exploring, even though that got half the family killed by mutants? Cannibals?
