Happy Mother's Day to my momma Jana McNeil!! She also happens to be the guest for this week! She's the reason I have such a strong work ethic and don't make excuses. Having me and my four younger sisters at such an early age, I was old enough to witness her just accept that our father's weren't going to pull their weight. She ended up putting herself through Nursing School and changing her own life through hard work and determination.   My mother is my hero and she never gives up.  She's also the reason I'm funny because she taught me to laugh things off.  I love my Momma!!!

As the owner of "Find A Way Fitness", Kevin believes that you can either find a way or find an excuse.  Kevin is the living embodiment of "finding a way". When he wanted to make it to the NFL, he had to find a way.  When he was cut from the Washington Redskins and fell into a deep depression, he had to find a way.  When his wife was diagnosed with cancer, he had to find a way.  When he was fired from the gym that he helped become the number one gym in the country, because they owners were selling the business, he had to find a way When he wanted to start his own gym, he had to find a way. After getting cheated on, Gerald Rubin brought a one-way bus ticket to LA.... Lesson number 1, don't take a bus from Virgina to LA. The movies make it look exciting, it actually sucks.   That's the first of many lessons! Other lessons include: Hawkeye sucks, just be quiet if you get stopped by immigration, don't do crazy drugs, cooperate with the police, screw what people think about you, and just be yourself. 

Jonah Lewis is a stand-up (or "sit-down") comedian that suffers from Cerebral Palsy who uses his gift to help people gain a little bit of perspective on how he lives his life.  He stops by the podcast to teach us that no one "classes" out of Waffle House.  We talk "sexy" Casper, sports old white people play, and the erotica game. McNeil gets picked on for his unwavering self-confidence and Andrew continues to make his "Andrew" jokes.  

On March 24th, 2018 the "Humor In Mistakes Podcast" was born. 16 pound' 12 ounces'. Well today is it's 2nd birthday and we couldn't be happier.  When the podcast was born, doctors told us that most podcasts don't make it to see their 1st, let alone, 2nd birthday.   Well we proved that doctor wrong! We would say f**k doctors but right now, they are in crisis mode dealing with corona virus so we forgive them! Side note  *Stay safe out there lil mistakers* For this episode we gathered some of our favorite moments from the past!  We hope you enjoy it and thank you for listening to the podcast for the last two years!  We really appreciate you!

A lover of performance, comedy and music since childhood, she holds a BA in Theatre Arts-Performance from Hampton University. In Chicago, she was an ensemble member of Barrel of Monkeys Theatre Company and worked as a teaching artist in Chicago Public Schools. She graduated from The Second City Conservatory and became an understudy for Chicago’s Second City mainstage.  The birth of Rebecca’s first child in 2008 inspired an interest in maternal and child health. She became a Certified Lactation Specialist and worked with the Chicago Department of Public Health and WIC, promoting breastfeeding in African American communities throughout Chicago. She started a blog, a podcast, and co-founded a company that helped parents and health agencies serving low-resource neighborhoods. In 2012, Rebecca, her husband Craston Artis II, and other parents started the African-centered school Watoto Wetu Academy on the south side of Chicago. Rebecca moved with her family to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2014 and soon realized she had to return to acting, writing, and comedy. In 2018 she graduated from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communications as a Master of Fine Arts in Narrative Media Writing. In 2018, Rebecca also wrote, produced, and starred in a short comedic film, In the Midst of Morons, directed by Dre Robinson. After ITMOM, Dre and Rebecca began a web series called Totally Becky, which screened in eight film festivals, garnering nominations for two awards, and winning Best Web Series at the 2018 Middle Coast Film Festival. Rebecca lives in Raleigh with her husband, two sons (sometimes her bonus daughter too), and her mom from whom she learned the art of comedic timing.    

Rebecca Fox is here to teach McNeil and Andrew about not just accepting anyone as their friend.  So what they do cartwheels, beat up bad guys, or get to the center of a tootsie pop with one lick. Later she performed around the United States with Second City Works. She also wrote, produced, and performed shows with 3-woman improv and sketch group Triplette. Among others, Rebecca has performed at Chicago SketchFest, Chicago Improv Fest, San Francisco Sketchfest, Sketchfest NYC and on a tour of colleges. Then she was like, "wait, what's it all for?" She quit show business, got her M.Ed in Bilingual Elementary Education, and moved back to her beautiful, complex home state of North Carolina. While working as a public school teacher in NC, Rebecca started acting again to support her teaching career! It was funny, but it was also sad, and it figured prominently in to her decision to become an SLP, which she highly recommends as a career path for anyone curious. There are so many possibilities! Now she is thrilled to be creating with delightful people once again on The Rebecca Show. Rebecca is a graduate of the (University of) North Carolina School of the Arts, Northwestern University, University of Illinois Chicago, and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Comedian Mike Horn is our guest this week!  We've all gotten into it with our parents but Mike's story probably beats yours.  Donovan McNeil, Andrew Gleason and Mike talk about shitty parents and what not to say to your kids.  Since none of us have kids...that we know of, our advice is probably spot on. Mike Horn talks about struggling with his self image.  Growing up he had an abusive stepmom who would always insult his weight.  He talks about how he uses over-eating as a coping mechanism when hes stressed.  The lesson of this episode is to accept the reality of a situation whether good or bad.  Because being honest with yourself allows you to fix whatever is wrong.  

If we had to describe this episode in two words... it would be Jesus and Dating. Comedian Lucy Moore joins the show to discuss being dumped for not fitting the "ideal" image of a pastor's wife.  BUT we kept getting derailed because McNeil had SO many questions about Lucy's dating life.  What is second base for someone waiting until marriage to have sex? Writing a love letter?!?!  Giving each other a hug that last more than 5 seconds?!?! So many questions were asked.  So many questions were left unanswered.  Take a listen!!!

Our guest for episode 63 of the Humor In Mistakes Podcast is fellow comedian Khari Reid, who used to walk around with anger that could rival the Incredible Hulk!  Khari even got mad and tried to fight a random guy on the street who said he looked like Lil John.   One. This was during the reign of the Chappelle Show! Two. Khari had dreads! ( hmmm....I wonder if Khari was wearing shades that day?) The theme of this episode is learning to focus on the things we can control. With the sudden and unexpected death of his fiance, Khari used anger and drugs as a coping mechanism.  However, during a fit of road rage, Khari was able to realize that he like who he was becoming and it was up to him to make positive changes in his life.   We hope you enjoy the episode Lil' Mistakers!

Donovan McNeil and Andrew Gleason both had crazy adventures in 2019.  Want to hear about it!?! First McNeil quit a job he hated and Andrew stopped drinking.  Then during the summer they both became camp counselors for the Boy Scouts of America. McNeil was the Rifle Director and had never fired a rifle before, and Andrew was the Aquatics Director and could barely swim! It was a crazy summer! Without goal setting McNeil and Andrew wouldn't get anything done, so listen to their 2020 goals! Is there anything they should add?

Sumanth Mukkala was on the show back in March 2018, when the "Humor In Mistakes Podcast" was called "The Keepin It McReal Show". During that time, I wasn't releasing any episodes that I recorded because I didn't think I was good at interviewing.  The truth is... I wasn't even decent.  But it doesn't matter how good you are.  Whenever you first start something new, you'll probably be bad at it.  Do it anyways! You'll get better! Arriving to America from India, Sumanth had high expectations from his parents to be a Doctor or an Engineer.  Sumanth learned to be become his own man by trying hard, never giving up, and putting himself in positions of discomfort.  He went as far as to dye part of his hair blonde!  Talk about freedom! Ironically, can't visit his parents in India until he gets his natural hair color back.  Sooo... there's that... Hardy gives our little Mistakers in this episode.  Pamela encourages walking away from things in your life that no longer serve you.  I tell Pamela how to recognize "players" while she warns me how strawberries can lead to an unexpected pregnancy.  This was a strange one lil Mistakers!!

"Never take life advice from someone who does heroin" is a lesson our guest had to learn the hard way...  Our guest, Vince Neely, is a Marine who recommends that everyone hit rock bottom a few times in lifetime.  He followed his own advice by DYING and coming back to life. Vince tells us how he joined the military to learn discipline but ultimately ended up regretting that decision.  

Time for a Throwback EPISODE!  This unreleased episode was recorded over a year ago before I had the confidence to put this show out to the public.  My guest James Taylor was deciding whether or not he should continue with his PhD program.  Listen as I fumble threw one of my first interviews!!  You'll probably be bad at anything when you first start, but keep on doing it anyways.
