As most of you know by now, for us it's as much about the Quest as it is about the Pizza, and this week's guest, author David Amadio, takes us on a deep dive into the quest of his father, Jerry Amadio, a master carpet installer and rug expert, who is just as dedicated to his own craft as any pizzaiolo that I know is to making the perfect pizza.  Jerry Amadio is legendary in the carpet community, especially in Philadelphia, where he has been honing and expressing his skills for the past 50 years. David, as his (sometimes) dutiful son, worked alongside his father for a number of years, learning much (but not all) of what his father knew. But, then, he realized his own path was to be a writer and teacher, not a "rug man," so he instead wrote a book about what he learned from his dad, and called it "Rug Man." It is, technically, a work of fiction, a novel with fictional characters, but it is based on real occurrences in his father's life, dealing with high maintenance customers, arrogant foremen, slacker/stoner co-workers, and undocumented immigrants who are just as dedicated as he is to respecting this noble craft. The story unfolds while the "rug man" practices his fading art of proper carpet installation and antique rug restoration, all while racing the clock against a looming back injury that might lay him out at any moment.I, like David Amadio, grew up in my family's carpet business, and both of my brothers earned their livelihood in it. My brother, Harry, actually still works for the same company as Jerry Amadio. It was Harry who told me about the book and connected me with David.  His book is so well-written that one needs to have no knowledge of, or even interest in, carpet and rugs to fully enjoy the read, as it skillfully captures the universal and fathomless sense of quest that any dedicated artisan feels for his or her craft. It's no surprise that the book is so much fun to read, since David's day job is as a Professor of Creative Writing at Lincoln University, just outside of Philadelphia. As a journalist she has covered auto racing for Gannett Newspapers, National Speed Sports News, the Los Angeles Daily News, and other publications. VGK went down in the 1st period 1-0, and after that, Cassidy said the team had no compete. There were a couple of turnovers in the game by Jack Eichel and Alec Martinez, and VGK didn't play well in the neutral zone. Logan Thompson gave up a couple of soft goals and was pulled in favor of Adin Hill in the third period. Jack Eichel and Reilly Smith were each -4 in the game. No one really played well as the Kings took another 4-point game from the VGK. A season-low shots on goal - 20 for the Golden Knights, in what might have been their worst defeat. Jack Eichel, VGK's star center is set to return to the ice for Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, the start of a Golden Knights 7-game homestand at T-Mobile Arena. Eichel has missed 11 games with a lower body injury. To make room for his return players like Jonas Rondbjorg, Brayden Paschel and Kaeden Korzack would probably be sent back to AHL Henderson. In this episode Millie chats to Kristie Amadio. Kristie is the founder of Recovered Living NZ; New Zealand's first charitable residential eating disorder treatment centre. With a 14 year history of an eating disorder, Kristie sought treatment in three different countries before finding recovery in residential treatment in California. This experience led her to opening a charitable residential treatment centre so that others could get the help they deserved, without having to fly to the other side of the world. Kristie is a qualified counsellor in Australia and New Zealand and a certified Eating Disorder Recovery Coach. She has a rich history of being an elite athlete, an outdoor instructor and has helped individuals all over the world in their recovery journeys. Kristie developed an eating disorder in her teenage years, competing on the world stage as an elite athlete. She sought treatment in Australia and New Zealand where she became 'functional' in life, but still had constant thoughts about food and body image in her mind. She relapsed again 9 years later and was this time told that she was chronic and should expect to have to 'manage' her eating disorder for the rest of her life. Not satisfied with this, Kristie researched treatment options and travelled to California to attend treatment at Monte Nido. Immediately stunned by the quality of the program and expertise of the staff she made a wild promise to herself that if she ever recovered, she would set up a residential treatment centre in New Zealand so that others would have access to this level and quality of support. Firstly, Kristie set up Recovered Living in the USA which provides online and live-in support to people in recovery. Her team of Recovery Coaches are all fully recovered and endlessly dedicated to supporting others to do the same. Kristie was invited to present at the 2018 TEDx event in New Zealand. Since that time she has been driven to create a charitable residential treatment centre in New Zealand, that operates on a not-for-profit basis. Recovered Living NZ is on track to open its doors in 2022 with a 6 bed residential and a 6 place day program.
