Welcome back to another insightful episode as we continue our journey into detoxifying teams and fostering a more compassionate workplace culture. Today, we're delving into the vital topic of developing compassion within ourselves and our teams, or what today's guest likes to call “Compassion Management.” Let's face it: compassion isn't always a natural trait, especially in fast-paced environments like veterinary hospitals. It's all too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, directing orders without truly connecting with our team members. But our guest today, Rebecca Fox, a seasoned CVPM and Hospital Administrator from Orlando, FL, is here to shed light on Compassion Management. With her wealth of experience, starting from the ground up as a receptionist to her current leadership role, Beckie brings a fresh perspective on nurturing compassion within our teams. Throughout this episode, we'll explore practical strategies and insights shared by Beckie on how to infuse compassion into our management approach. From understanding the "why" behind processes to fostering empathy and trust among team members, we'll uncover actionable tips to cultivate a more supportive and empathetic workplace environment.   Show Notes: [2:14] - You can manage well while keeping your humanity intact. [3:24] - Team members need to understand the “why” behind processes. [4:22] - Compassion Management is seeking to understand someone else's perspective. [6:36] - Empathize with someone's situation and assume good intent. [7:57] - If we can't trust each other and communicate, then patient care suffers. [9:04] - Self-awareness is a skill that not everyone possesses. [11:46] - We can give team members techniques to put problems aside to focus on patient and client care. [13:05] - Managers need to know the scope of their role. Knowing your boundaries is important for successfully leading others. [16:26] - The team will take their cues from the top down. Hold yourself to the same compassion standards. [18:31] - Not all natural leaders are in a leadership role. Identify and communicate with the influencers on your team. [20:15] - You have to set the standards yourself, hold yourself to the same standards, and communicate why the standards are important. [24:51] - Compassion extends to clients as well. [26:06] - Beckie recommends some books and resources for Compassion Management. [28:02] - As leaders, we need to remember that we serve the clients and the team as a whole entity. It's not about us.   Thank you for listening. Remember you are not in this alone. In today's episode of the "Helping Families Be Happy" podcast, host Christopher Robbins, co-founder of Familius publishing, husband, father of nine, author, fisherman, backpacker, and aspirational musician based in the Central Valley of California talks with guest Rebecca Fox Starr, an author, writer, Blogger, speaker, and mental health advocate. She created her internationally read blog "Mommy Ever After" in 2010 following the birth of her first child when she became pregnant with her second child in 2013. Rebecca suffered from prenatal anxiety and depression and subsequent severe postpartum depression. She decided to document her journey in real time in an effort to help others. Episode Highlights 1.07: Rebecca writes candidly about her life as a mother, survivor, advocate, singer-songwriter, dance partier, and studded shoe collector. Her story has been featured in the New York Times, Huffington Post, on ABC News, and all forms of media across the world.  03.43: Maternal mental health is just mental health feelings, emotions, and diagnosis. But for mothers, for those who are trying to conceive, pregnant or have children.  04.45: Rebecca talks about motherhood and what drove her to start her first blog. 05.07: Rebecca shares how she tackles postpartum depression post giving birth to her second child.  06.58: For Rebecca writing was the greatest therapy. When feeling down, nervous, depressed, she used writing as a medium to get out of it.  08.24: As treacherous as the landscape of social media can be, there is also something that is amazing about the exposure, because now people are used to sharing things about their lives and it's become easier, sometimes even attractive, or desirable, says Rebecca. 08.56: As per Rebecca, because people are talking more and connecting more because we are all so much more connected through social media.  11.26: Rebecca shares how motherhood is the greatest joy in the world, but it is also the hardest phase.  12.05: As per Rebecca, everyone has negative feelings, and just like it's in her book, negative feelings come. We don't have to pretend that they don't exist. We need to be resilient and know that we are sad or lonely or scared. But just like storms, they these feelings pass.  14.02: For moms in particular, 25% of moms or 30% of moms are diagnosed with a perinatal mood and anxiety disorder.  15.46: Rebecca talks about the therapeutic way of positive thinking and how it can help to get over anxiety and depression. 17.21: For someone with depression validation is important, says Rebecca. 18.45: As per Rebecca, support is the key to success, and she has done a lot of research on postpartum depression screening and diagnosis. She is not a clinician, but she has done a lot of research and written academic books on this. 20.11: A lot of times people who are going through especially a parental mood and anxiety disorder, postpartum depression, they are thinking that they should feel better or that they are bad parent for feeling the way that they do. 21.10: Christopher has found out that saying how can I help you is not as helpful as just helping. 21.46: Rebecca shares for those who are in the book world, what does she hopes that the publishing industry in the book industry can do to help improve mental health awareness?  3 Key Points Rebecca shares how writing has helped her to crawl out of her depression post giving birth to her second child. Writing is how she connects with people, so finding people to connect with was incredibly healing. Rebecca talks about her book, Mommy Ever After, how does that relate to mental health and why was that book important for her to write?  To use business terms, somebody who reaches out to a friend once a week, the return on investment is so great. You have a 30% less chance to experience depression or to sink down into a deeper depression and just by being checked in on, says Rebecca.  Tweetable Quotes "In 2013-2014 people didn't talk about mental health the same way that they do now. Not as openly, not as compassionately." – Rebecca "Sharing about postpartum depression has been, as I said, the greatest. Pivot and ultimately gift in my life." - Rebecca "Actually, starting to write was the most healing thing that I did. And over the course of the next several years, as I crawled out of that hole of anxiety and depression, I knew that if I got that feeling, feeling down, feeling nervous, feeling depressed, writing was the greatest therapy." - Rebecca  "When I started writing about postpartum depression, my first two books were academic texts. There was not a big list of books on postpartum depression and. There is no book on trying to expand your family after postpartum depression, so I wrote it because there was nothing there." – Rebecca "For me, Mommy ever after, is this whimsical book with the most gorgeous illustrations." -Rebecca "We encourage our audience, if anyone is experiencing acute anxiety or debilitating depression, to make sure that they get proper professional medical care to help them as they navigate this one of these life challenges." - Christopher Resources Mentioned Rebecca's Book www.mommyeverafter.com Instagram https://www.instagram.com/rebeccafoxstarr/?hl=en Podcast Editing

Feeling and Naming Your Feelings with Rebecca Fox Starr In today's episode of “Helping Families be Happy” podcast, host Dr. Carla Marie Manly, a practicing Clinical Psychologist, Wellness Advocate, and Author based in Sonoma County, California talks with Rebecca Fox Starr about her book ‘Mommy Ever After', and all about her journey of becoming an author.   Episode Highlights 02:30 – Dr. Carla asks the guest about one or two pieces of the hard work that make Rebecca who she is. 04:48 – Rebecca says that after the birth of her son in 2013, she had severe postpartum depression and it came out of nowhere. 07:20 – Dr. Carla enquires what is the most magical piece about the book - 'Mommy Ever After' that's different from the other books that Rebecca wrote. 10:10 – It is a story about a mother and her daughter as they go through the stages of life, and experience all different emotions, specifically, some of the tough emotions. 14:10 - The holistic approach (mind, body, and spirit approach) is so important, says Dr. Carla. 17:10 - What is your favorite part about the way the illustrations speak, asks Dr. Carla. 19:10 – Rebecca states that it's very hard to choose her favorite illustrations from the book because every page is just exquisite to her. 20:50 – Rebecca suggests that whatever feelings you may feel instead of judging them bring them in, welcome them, sit with them, and let them go.   Three Key Points Rebecca started to write in real-time about her struggle with postpartum depression on her blog and that changed the trajectory of her life. She opened up about the heart stuff and subsequently wrote two books that are academic books on perinatal mood, anxiety disorders, and maternal mental health. Writing 'Mommy Ever After' has been such a dream realized; it is something magical for Rebecca. Dr. Carla mentions that this book helps check the child and parent, both as a team learn about emotions being good, that all of these emotions are so important to be able to feel and express in healthy ways. Rebecca emphasizes that sometimes feelings don't have names. It's very hard to name these feelings, but it does not make them any less intense or valid. She has tried to instill in her children that they can say I'm not feeling well. If they say I'm not feeling well, she might ask them, physically or emotionally. If they say emotionally, she takes it just as seriously as any physical ailment.   Tweetable Quotes "Your story is just so beautiful meeting the boy down the street around the corner." - Dr. Carla Marie Manly "Mommy Ever After - the phrase came about when I became a mom in 2010, I was the first of my friends to have a baby." - Rebecca Fox Starr "Being a mother, being a mom, it's another layer in life altogether." - Dr. Carla Marie Manly "First of all, I can't take credit for the visual representations in this book." - Rebecca Fox Starr "I love the message that goes throughout the book of being in touch with your emotions." - Dr. Carla Marie Manly "I appreciate that you were able to glean that because that's what my intention is." - Rebecca Fox Starr "I have so many favorite images but I'll give you two." - Rebecca Fox Starr "What a powerful book, it's a gorgeous book." - Dr. Carla Marie Manly "Beautiful and I agree with you, everything starts and ends with love." - Dr. Carla Marie Manly Resources Mentioned Helping Families be Happy Podcast Apple Dr. Carla Marie Manly Website LinkedIn Instagram Twitter Rebecca Foxstarr Website Instagram LinkedIn Twitter Podcast Editing

We have Rebecca Fox as our guest today. She has been an entrepreneur for the past fifteen years and a content creator for the last ten. She has written over 5000 blogs, hundred pieces of web copy, and a dozen more eBooks. She is a consultant for TV shows and online training programs. She also owns Quatrefoil Creation, a content creation agency.Take a listen today as she teaches us a step-by-step process for creating a piece in a professional way. Surely after this, you will not be scared in creating a blog post.Steps in Creating a Blog Post1. Have A Good TopicWhen you are writing for your portfolio and have control over what to write about, start with something you are good at. Choose topics you would want to read. The more enthusiastic you are about your subject, the more excited your readers will be when they read it.2. Coming Up With A Great TitleThe blog title needs to be as click-worthy as possible and make people actually read it. A title can have a significant effect on how an audience interprets the blog post. SEO platforms are a bit pricey. You can try Google and type in your topic and see what the first three suggestions are. From here you will know what people are interested in or what might be trending.3. Write An Outline For Your PostGreat blog posts don't just appear out of nowhere. Also, most professional bloggers need a rough plan to keep them on track. Here's where outlines come in handy when creating a blog post.To begin, write down your ideas and organize them into some kind of structure. An outline doesn't have to be long or detailed – it's just a rough guide to ensure you don't go all over the place and ramble something off-topic. It's critical just to make sure you have the information that you need for the topic.4. Filling It InNow you have the title and the outline, it's time to fill it in. It is important to have the right tone in creating a blog post. Put links and sources – two to five is good but seven is overkill.Include nice cover photos or pictures (that look professional) throughout to give your audience an insight into what you're trying to tell them. People also lack the time, will, or ability to concentrate on long blog posts without some visual input. You can go to Canva, Unsplash, and Pixabay for free images.5. Finally, Post It!Check the flow of your post by reading it aloud, or have someone else read it and provide feedback. Edit and click post!Blogging is one of those tasks that seems to be easy before you really get to do it. It does, however, get simpler with time and practice, and you'll be creating a blog post like a pro in no time.Support the show (http://www.thesavvyscribepodcast.com)

Marc and Josh spoke with Rebecca Fox, an employment lawyer at VWV in Watford about how to furlough fairly. The word furlough is also becoming more common after the government set up a coronavirus job retention scheme to help businesses retain staff during the uncertainty of the pandemic even if they have to temporarily close.Under the scheme, the government will pay a firm’s employees 80% of their current salary for hours not worked up to a maximum of £2,500.It will run up to the end of March 2021.Of course there are lots of questions, what can and can’t you do on furlough and what are your employment rights during the pandemic and beyond. Can you still earn annual leave? Are you allowed to apply for a new job? What happens if you feel you have been dismissed unfairly? There have been lots of changes to government support and this interview was conducted in late October so things could be different by the time you listen but it should give you a general idea of what it supposed to happen on furlough and if you ever feel you have been unfairly dismissed.About usThe In For A Penny podcast is produced and presented by freelance personal finance journalist Marc Shoffman and The Orchard Practice financial planner Joshua Gerstler. Each episode aims to address the confusing concepts and challenges from the world of business, finance and wider society. A "Pre-Methodological" Discussion Series | Part 4 of 4 Watch video of talk here: https://youtu.be/9ahfNpYbaTk Summary: After creating a pie chart of reasons for thinking his Christian worldview is objectively true into categories grouped by importance, Shane and I explore the attributes of his reasons and how they interrelate or possibly influence each other. Since all four of our talks cover important concepts that set the stage for exploring the quality of Shane's reasons and reliability of Shane's methods, I've dubbed this series "pre-method" or "pre-methodological" as a result. It's my hope that these four talks will resonate with practitioners of Street Epistemology and they can see the potential this line of questioning has when it comes to exploring deeply-held beliefs. I am hopeful a discussion like this will one day break through the noise and truly help people reconsider how they decide to interact with someone else's claims, reasons, and methods. Identifying the relationships and dependencies of our "categories of reasons" is a critical path people should routinely consider. Thanks to The Conru Foundation for supporting Street Epistemology International. Note: Despite my best efforts, I was unable to conduct a 5th chat with Shane. I realize this may frustrate some viewers, but felt it would still be valuable to release these four talks to the public. The primary purpose of my videos has always been to show others how to do Street Epistemology themselves. If Shane and I never cross paths again, it's my hope someone will continue engaging with him in a productive manner. Thank you for your understanding and time. A lover of performance, comedy and music since childhood, she holds a BA in Theatre Arts-Performance from Hampton University. In Chicago, she was an ensemble member of Barrel of Monkeys Theatre Company and worked as a teaching artist in Chicago Public Schools. She graduated from The Second City Conservatory and became an understudy for Chicago’s Second City mainstage.  The birth of Rebecca’s first child in 2008 inspired an interest in maternal and child health. She became a Certified Lactation Specialist and worked with the Chicago Department of Public Health and WIC, promoting breastfeeding in African American communities throughout Chicago. She started a blog, a podcast, and co-founded a company that helped parents and health agencies serving low-resource neighborhoods. In 2012, Rebecca, her husband Craston Artis II, and other parents started the African-centered school Watoto Wetu Academy on the south side of Chicago. Rebecca moved with her family to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2014 and soon realized she had to return to acting, writing, and comedy. In 2018 she graduated from the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communications as a Master of Fine Arts in Narrative Media Writing. In 2018, Rebecca also wrote, produced, and starred in a short comedic film, In the Midst of Morons, directed by Dre Robinson. After ITMOM, Dre and Rebecca began a web series called Totally Becky, which screened in eight film festivals, garnering nominations for two awards, and winning Best Web Series at the 2018 Middle Coast Film Festival. She quit show business, got her M.Ed in Bilingual Elementary Education, and moved back to her beautiful, complex home state of North Carolina. While working as a public school teacher in NC, Rebecca started acting again to support her teaching career! It was funny, but it was also sad, and it figured prominently in to her decision to become an SLP, which she highly recommends as a career path for anyone curious. There are so many possibilities! Now she is thrilled to be creating with delightful people once again on The Rebecca Show. We always have new and different guests! Today, we have Rebecca Fox. She’s an illustrator, animator, podcaster, and all around awesome human being. Rebecca recently worked with a few atheist content creators, including our young Dan (or Yung Dan as he’s known in the “rap game”) and his grandmaster Anthony Magnabosco, to create a Twitter survey about atheists and their deconversions, then making a video about the responses. (That video can be found here at Anthony Magnabosco’s channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-EMyPABdCHc.)River in Michigan shares an issue that’s bound to sound familiar to a lot of skeptically-minded people: He’s doubting the very foundations of knowledge, including the Laws of Logic. It’s an interesting question precisely because we have no answer. What do?Doug in Florida has a potentially interesting thought about why stories like Abraham sacrificing his son and the entire sacrifice motif of Jesus might exist: The stories are intended to show human sacrifice as reprehensible to discourage a society of people who were already sacrificing humans. (The society is made of people doing human sacrifice, why do any of them care? Why would a story about human sacrifice bother people engaging in human sacrifice?) Dan has some interesting counter-points to this based on Jewish ideas about the Old Testament.Following Doug’s calls, Rebecca & Dan get into a short discussion about woo and “spirituality” from acupuncture to tarot cards!Tom in the UK continues a bit of the conversation about woo by chiming in to agree with Rebecca: the UK has lost a lot of standard religions, but has become infested with woo. Then after Dan & Rebecca discuss further, we realize Tom seems to have dropped. You win some, you lose some. Moving on!Fred in Idaho has a decent interest and knowledge of Mormon mythology, and tells us some of the hilarious tales people spin about how some of these strange Mormon stories fit with their real lives-like 3 men in white suits magically fixing a car with no tools! This gets into the more interesting side of why people tell these tales-is it because they believe these stories or that they like telling the tale?Bobby in California calls in to ask what we think of Life Extension Research. Bobby claims to be attaining a Masters degree in fields related to Life Extension Research, and offers some information about the research he’s aware of.Nathan in Texas (Hey! We’ve been there before!) describes his own schizo-effective disorder, saying that he started to become more susceptible to spirituality and conspiracy theories after he developed the schizo-effective disorders.Jeremy in Iowa follows up on a previous call about secular moral frameworks to talk about the is/ought gap, and why he thinks it’s actually not an issue. That’s our show, folks! Episode #65 Gluten-Free Philadelphia with Rebecca from Fox & Son Philadelphia   I'm excited to feature Rebecca Fox, from Fox & Son Philadelphia, for this episode of Travel Gluten Free! I've been hearing about Fox & Son any time I mention I'm traveling to Philadelphia to another friend or acquaintance who is gluten-free.    My guest Rebecca is a graduate of Cornell’s Culinary Institute of America graduate, as well as her business partner Kevin Kwan. She previously worked as a corporate chef for a seven-store grilled cheese brand owned by a creamery. Rebecca’s background in fine dining and hospitality management gives her an extraordinary take on her menu of carnival style food.  As you will find out from her interview, she is very involved and interested in food science.    She began her restaurant experience at the age of 12, with multiple family members working in one aspect or another of culinary dining. Rebecca’s first job at a bakery taught her the basics of baking and how to pack baked goods. She has loved being a part of the culinary world and has lived this lifestyle for most of her life.   Rebecca’s experience and training comes through in the quality and taste of the food she offers at Fox & Sons. She is not gluten-free, but decided on a gluten-free menu as a result of finding out that gluten-free flours worked better and tasted better in the frier when she was experimenting with flours for her new restaurant at Reading Terminal Market at C4.   Reading Terminal Market is located in the heart of Philadelphia at 12th and Arch Streets. RTM is an authentic Philly experience and offers a variety of dishes that are not only gluten-free, but the eating establishments are also from many different food cultures, which I love! When you're there, definitely check out Fox & Son - the only dedicated gluten-free restaurant at Reading Terminal Market. The owner, Rebecca Foxman, created a dedicated gluten-free restaurant that features such delicacies as funnel cake, fried Oreos, gluten-free corn dogs, and white birch beer. Robert Thurman opens this two part podcast by comparing and contrasting expressions of nonduality and nirvana in Buddhist & Vedantist philosophies. Describing the modern consensus reality that assures individuals of their lack of post-death soul-continuation though secular educational indoctrination, Professor Thurman explains the need to explore the usefulness of the Buddhist teaching of emptiness in order to help people free themselves from the widespread blind faith in (pseudo-)”scientific” nihilism in regards to the ongoing life of the soul, or super-subtle mind-continuum. Includes a close reading of Nāgārjuna‘s “Jewel Garland of Royal Counsel”, a re-telling of a favorite story of the Buddha’s teaching of the gods and his subsequently divine mother residing in the “33 heaven,” and a warning about how a common misunderstanding of emptiness leads certain “guru” figures to lose their spiritual and ethical balance. Cass Midgley and Dr. Bob Pondillo interview Rebecca Fox. Rebecca is the artist and author of a new graphic novel titled "Murmurs of Doubt: Twelve Skeptical Graphic Novellas." She's British and was raised by apatheist parents but got caught up in the Wiccan religion in her teens. Rebecca is an impressive, sharp communicator with an interesting personal journey that we're delighted to bring you. On her website about the book Rebecca writes, "I’m not the same person I was ten years ago. And neither are you. I wanted to write stories about those moments of epiphany when we begin to change, to see through superstition and dogma and get a glimpse of the really real world. But that’s impossible. The closer I looked for those moments the more slippery they became and as I wrote and drew I realised I was telling stories about doubt… bubbling under the surface in everyone's lives, ready to transform us. Murmurs of Doubt is a collection of twelve comics about people from diverse backgrounds and cultures experiencing doubt and becoming someone new. At around the one hour mark of this conversation, Rebecca references Leo Igwe's Skeptical Manifesto for Africa, from which I'm about to read. I found this to be a very practical application for atheist activism in the world that pushes back against the toxic effects of non-critical thinking and superstition. It occurred to me as an opportunity for us to apply our heartfelt concerns for how religious thinking is literally arresting social development around the world. You can Google a Skeptic's Manifesto for Africa, which I've linked in the shownotes, and donate to this cause. The following excerpt from Igwe's post demonstrates a religious hegemonic stronghold even greater than that of the American South. I found this interesting because, as much as we here in America have felt the negative repercussions of religion, it's destructive swath reaches well past our Western borders, with far worse ramifications. I hope you caught the phrase, "skeptical spring." This notion inspired me to keep putting out episodes of this podcast. To keep speaking out about the integrity of critical thinking. Christians have a scripture that propels them out of complacency in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the gospel." Well, they should be ashamed, and we, with the truth and morality and human progress on our side should not be ashamed. Obviously I'm not endorsing that we become assholes like them, but that we not shrink back from opportunities to inform the curious, educate the confused, and embolden the cowardly.   We taped this conversation on July 15th, 2017. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Our show is available on most podcast platforms.  Also, you can support us monetarily in two easy ways: you can pledge one dollar per episode through Patreon; that’s www.patreon.com/eapodcast, or leave a lump-sum donation through PayPal at our website, www.everyonesagnostic.com. I love her. Her personality, her way of communicating…it doesn’t hurt that she’s got a lovely British accent. We learned a little about the Wiccan belief system and its geographical variations. You know, we all love Bob. We love his naïve perspective. And we can see, in a very innocent way, how a lack of understanding can be the source of judgment. Bob was not at all judgmental of Rebecca, but you can see his impatience or intolerance, if you will, of woo-woo beliefs. One of David Richo’s declarations of healthy adulthood is “Until I see another’s behavior with compassion, I have not understood it.” All fear and judgment of another human being are only afforded to those who have not experienced that person’s life, they’ve not walked a mile in their shoes, if they had—and I mean this of Charles Manson or Jeffrey Dahmer, etc.—they would have a much better understanding of why they did what they did. We might even be able to say we would’ve done the same thing under the same circumstances. And by circumstances I mean their mental health, their brain, their childhood, their history, their entire context. So I just want to keep erecting this beautiful standard of connectedness and seeing yourself in everyone else. This is will naturally and with little effort make you a better person—wiser and smarter and kinder. Our friend and former guest of this podcast, Chris Nelson (Ep 101) posted on FB this week, “Every encounter with another human being is like being able to read a half a page from the middle of a novel and then someone grabs the book away.” This both tags onto the connectedness we’re talking about and describes how I feel about every guest we have on. Getting this little glimpse of Rebecca Fox, for example, let’s us peer into someone else’s novel that’s been written and is still being written every day that we’re alive. This human experience is rather amazing, wouldn’t you say? Just consciousness itself. Before we were born we couldn’t engage with each other, we couldn’t see, smell, feel, orgasm, eat, create some kind of art, listen to music, dance, or play with friends. Someday all this will end for each of us. And while some us like Rebeccca and myself (not Bob) tried to find extra meaning and magic and supernatural imaginations, we’re finding that even as those things prove to be false, the truth of our existence, our reality, our relationships are more than enough awe-striking and magic and wonderful without needing to delude ourselves or lie to ourselves. In fact, we’re learning to jump in rather than escape. We’re learning to say yes to what is.
