Dave Hill is a comedian, writer, musician, actor, radio host, and man-about-town originally from Cleveland, Ohio but now living in New York City in a totally sweet apartment with a party deck and everything. Hot chicks come over to hang out and eat cheese plates and stuff with him all the time and it's awesome. Anyway, on the show business front, Dave has appeared on Netflix's The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Adult Swim's Joe Pera Talks with You Amazon's The Tick, Peacock TV's Girls5Eva, Comedy Central's @midnightand Inside Amy Schumer programs, TBS' Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, TV Land's The Jim Gaffigan Show, and TruTV's Comedy Knockout among a bunch of others. He is a frequent on-air host for HBO and Cinemax and has been on channels like MTV, VH1, BBC-America, and the Sundance Channel a whole bunch too. Dave also starred in his own television program The King of Miami on the Mojo Network, which was cancelled even though Dave really liked it. The show also aired in the United Kingdom on Sky TV's Film24 Channel. And you can still watch The King of Miami on Hulu too, which Dave is super pumped about. Oh, and Dave was a correspondent on Hoppus on Music starring Blink 182's Mark Hoppus on the Fuse channel, which ruled. Dave has been on other shows and in obscure movies too but let's keep moving for now. Dave performs live comedy over the world and has appeared at such festivals as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, SXSW, San Francisco Sketchfest, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Sasquatch Festival, Bumbershoot, Bonnaroo, the Bridgetown Comedy Festival in Portland, the Crap Comedy Festival in Oslo, Outside Lands in San Francisco, and then some other ones too. He has also performed comedy at Sing Sing Correctional Facility twice and even ripped some guitar solos inside a Mexican prison a couple times too. In 2007, Variety magazine named Dave one of their “10 Comedians to Watch,” something he still won't shut up about. Some things are hard to let go of. Dave hosted his own radio show The Goddamn Dave Hill Show on WFMU in Jersey City, New Jersey every Monday night from 9pm to midnight for years and now hosts the podcast Dave Hill's Podcasting Incident, which is also broadcast on the UK's Fubar Radio, So...You're Canadian with Dave Hill, and History Fluffer, on which he is joined by Jim Biederman, Jodi Lennon, and Chris Gersbeck. Dave is also a frequent contributor to public radio's Live from Here with Chris Thile and This American Life. He has also appeared on podcasts like WTF with Marc Maron, The Adam Carolla Show, The Nerdist, and then roughly 78 other ones besides those. Dave is the author of four books, including his brand new book The Awesome Game: One Man's Incredible, Globe-Crushing Hockey Odyssey, in addition to Parking the Moose (Doubleday Canada/Penguin Random House 2019), Tasteful Nudes (St. Martins Press, 2012) and Dave Hill Doesn't Live Here Anymore (Blue Rider Press 2016). He has also written for the New York Times, GQ, Salon, The Paris Review, McSweeney's, New York Observer, The Cleveland Plain Dealer, VICE, Guitar World, and a bunch of other places too. Comedy legend Dick Cavett called Dave “a major figure among American comic writers, past and present,” which is pretty much the coolest thing that has ever happened as far as Dave is concerned. Dave is also a musician who currently sings and plays guitar in the power pop band Valley Lodge, whose song “Go” is the theme song to HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and the psych/garage rock band Painted Doll. He was also a member of Cleveland rock bands Sons of Elvis and Cobra Verde as well as Diamondsnake, a heavy metal band with Moby. Additionally, Dave has played guitar for Walter Schreifels and muscle metal band Thor and bass for Lucy Wainwright Roche and former Faith No More singer Chuck Mosley. He also contributed musical scores to films such as Dirty Deeds, Shoot First and Pray You Live, and then some other ones besides those two. Dave's Info https://www.davehillonline.com

Jake Mattera is one of my favorite people on the planet. We went to the same high school but didn't know each other then, but became great friends in our 20s through the Philly comedy scene. From interning at Preston & Steve and for Conan O'Brien, we discuss Jake's comedy from his first open mic to performing in Montana and Alaska and his special, A Soft One.Pat House is a nationally-touring comedian based out of Philadelphia. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He recorded his first album Biggest Thing in 2013, and his latest album Heard Enough Yesterday, hit #1 on the iTunes comedy charts. Both can be heard on iTunes, Amazon, and Pandora. Jake Mattera is a Philadelphia-based stand-up known for his loveable brand of wholesome self-deprecation. He perfectly blends smart and silly on his spiritual quest to make himself the butt of every joke. His hilarious take on marriage, parenthood, work, and daily life highlights the universal vulnerability we share in our most awkward moments. His debut album, A Soft One, was released by Helium Records; it debuted at #2 on iTunes and Amazon. Jake's comedy is featured on a “Best Of Philly” compilation that—along with his album—can be heard on Sirius XM. He's performed in sketches on Conan and with the sketch group Gilly and Keeves. His comedy festival appearances include Big Sky, Laughing Skull, Limestone, San Francisco Sketchfest, and HBO's WICF. Jake was a finalist in the Boston Comedy Festival and Helium Comedy's Philly's Phunniest Competition. He's opened for Brian Regan, Dave Attell, and Nate Bargatze, among others.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week's episode was recorded live in front of an audience at the Sydney Goldstein Theater! Our first case is SCOTTISH RITE OF WAY: Nate brings the case against his partner Chan. The two live together in a building that once was a Masonic lodge. One of the rooms in their apartment has a strange door that opens onto a dark and mysterious hallway. Nate wants to investigate the hallway. Chan wants him to leave the mystery door alone! Thanks to reddit user u/acone419 for naming this week's main case! Shrinking actor Matt Knudsen had a non-traditional path to showbiz success. Hear his story. Matt Knudsen was born in Hawaii, raised in the Midwest and sailed around the world as a merchant marine. After trips to Europe, Africa and the Far East, he eventually put down his sea bag, picked up a microphone and began performing stand up comedy all across the country. As an actor, Matt has shared the screen with Oscar winners Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin, Sean Penn and more, and has appeared in dozens of Emmy and Golden Globe winning television shows like Key & Peele, Workaholics, The Big Bang Theory, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, The League, NCIS, Big Love, Boston Legal and Malcolm in the Middle. As a comedian, he's been on Conan, The Late Late Show, Last Call, ASX Live and Comics Unleashed. His latest stand up special Good News was produced by Dry Bar Comedy and currently has millions of views throughout their distribution network. Festival appearances include Montreal Just for Laughs (Best of the Fest), The San Francisco Sketchfest, Bridgetown, High Plains, Limestone and he's even entertained at The White House for President and Mrs. Obama. His critically acclaimed albums The Comedy Stylings of Matt Knudsen, American, and Yes And are top downloads on iTunes and heard regularly on SiriusXM and Pandora radio. They “Mix droll observation with a dry, almost hypnotic delivery,” (The Onion A.V. Club) and with Knudsen's unique style, “The personal feels universal, and the universal feels personal. The only explanation for this phenomenon is that it's all finely crafted comedy from a strong central voice…a great stand up album.” (The Huffington Post)

In science it's completely normal to wonder what would happen if you altered one variable or another – that's what you do when you test a hypothesis – but when it comes to the choices we make in our lives, there will always be unanswered questions. In this week's episode, both our storytellers share stories about their lives' fork-in-the-road moments. Part 1: As a child who loves biology and has Caribbean immigrant parents, Calvin Cato feels pressure to become a doctor. Part 2: Shane Hanlon can't help but compare his life choices to those of his hometown best friend. Calvin S. Cato got his comedic start with the Wesleyan University stand-up comedy troupe Punchline and then transferred his unique brand of humor to New York City in 2006. He has performed all across the United States and has even crossed the border into Canada. His television appearances include the Game Show Network, Oxygen's My Crazy Love, National Geographic's Brain Games, and an unaired pilot for Vice Media called Emergency Black Meeting. In 2017, Calvin was named one of Time Out New York's Queer Comics of Color to Watch Out For. His comedy has been featured in numerous festivals including San Francisco Sketchfest, Austin's Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, Brooklyn Pride, Gotham Storytelling Festival, FlameCon, and the Women in Comedy Festival. In addition, you may have heard him overshare on popular podcasts including Keith and The Girl, The Beige Philip Show, RISK!, Guys We F*cked, Las Culturistas, Tinder Tales or the video game themed podcast he co-produced called the Playable Characters Podcast (featured in AV Club and Splitsider). Most recently, Calvin was published in Kweendom, an anthology of essays by queer comedians and entertainers. Published in early 2021, the book is available on Amazon and other online book retailers. Shane M Hanlon, PhD, Executive Producer and co-host of the American Geophysical Union's podcast Third Pod from the Sun. Howdy, soundcast aficionados! You must be a fan of soundcasts if you're dropping in for yet another installment of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. Because that's all we do around here is pay homage to soundcasts. We play clips from 'em, we talk about ‘em, and sometimes we talk to the people who are ON the soundcasts, like today. But good deary me, I am getting ahead of myself. Myself being one Marc Hershon, your every-other-weekly host of Succotash, and this is Episode 344. We're about 5 weeks away from hitting our 12 year anniversary of this show — can you feel the excitement, the electricity, in the air? Of course you can. If you'd like to send me and co-host Tyson Saner a little congratulations or salutations message in the next couple of weeks so we can include in our 12th Anniversary Episode, we encourage that! The easiest way would probably be to kick out something in your socials to the attention of @SuccotashShow. You could also email us at either m-a-r-c@SuccotashShow.com or t-y-s-o-n@SuccotashShow.com. You can call into our Succotash and Runaway Truck Ramp Hotline at (818) 921-7212 and leave us a voice mail message. Or if you're feeling particularly production-y, you can record something and upload it as an MP3 file to http://Hightail.com/u/Succotash. We'll play or read everything that comes in. We haven't set the actual date in April yet, but as long as your submission reaches us by the beginning of April, it's in! Let's get back to the here and now. Or, rather, the last week and now. Tyson hosted Episode 343 and featured a Valentine's Day slate of three soundcast clips, including Life is Short with Justin Long, CineNation, and High Low with Emrata. You can still avail yourself of those delectable tidbits wherever you normally get your soundcasts from or pop over to our homesite, SuccotashShow.com, which is also the home for our nearly 12 years of episode archives. Which brings us up to present day and what I have in store for you, which is a guest. It's likely no surprise if you were able to read the title for his week's installment: Succcotash Epi344 w/Special Guest Josh Gilliland. A soundcaster and actual practicing attorney, Josh hosts The Legal Geeks soundcast, where he and Jessica Mederson, along with a rotating cast of other legal eagles tackle the important fictional cases of our time. Josh was a guest at one of our rare live shows, about 5 years back when we appeared as part of San Francisco Sketchfest. And he's the brother of another friend of the show and past guest, Gabriel Diani. He's also a Skipper in the Sea Scouts which is a kind of like Boy or Girl Scouts on the water, and we'll talk about that as well. This episode is sponsored by our long-running, long FAKE sponsor Henderson's Pants and their bright n' shiny Pedestrian Pants! Thanks to Josh for dropping by, You can hear a lot more of him over at The Legal Geeks soundcast and you can read a lot more by him on his blog, Bow Tie Law. Tyson Saner will be back in this very same soundcast feed next week with Episode 345 and until then, if someone you know is itching to find something new to listen to and a few choice samples might help them find their way, won't you please pass the Succotash? — Marc Hershon
