Today I'm doing something different and reading from a series of family history letters my grandparents wrote in the mid 1990s after I asked what life was like growing up in the 1920s to 1940s and how the world changed. In Installment One, my grandfather recalls early cars, operator run telephones, and gathering around the radio, along with big family Sundays and how WWII forced young men and women to grow up fast. Installment Two shifts to romance as my grandmother tells how she met my grandfather at a Toronto house dance on the eve of her 16th birthday, then they describe how each joined the services during the war. I also read part of Installment Three with vivid childhood summers at a Lake Simcoe cottage, lake adventures, farm work, and roaming freedom.
