Origins - A podcast about Limited Partners, created by Notation Capital
Micah Rosenbloom is a Managing Partner at Founder Collective, a firm dedicated to seed investing and, crucially, to keeping their fund sizes below $100 million. Micah talks with Beezer Clarkson, Partner at Sapphire Partners, and Nick Chirls, Partner at Asylum Ventures, to discuss Founder Collective's philosophy of keeping their fund size small to avoid the “billions or bust” mentality, how most investors have a bad track record of spotting trends at seed, and how consumer goods are still worthwhile investments even against the backdrop of AI. They also debate a recent post from Nick to get to the fundamental question of whether investors taking big risks are courageous or lucky.Learn more about Sapphire Partners: sapphireventures.com/sapphire-partnersLearn more about OpenLP: openlp.vcLearn more about Asylum Ventures: asylum.vcLearn more about Founder Collective: foundercollective.comFor a monthly roundup of the latest venture insights, including the newest Origins episodes, subscribe to the OpenLP newsletter – delivered straight to your inbox: subscribe.openlp.vcCHAPTERS:0:00 Welcome to Origins2:16 What Can Small Do For You?8:57-A Whole Team of Ex Operators14:52 How Micah's View of the Market Has Changed18:48-Why the Market's Tough Right Now21:49 Early Stage VCs Are Usually Seven Years Too Late30:14 Investing: Courage or Luck?42:59-Predictions for 2026

“WARNING / DISCLAIMER: the content is not safe for work – school – your gf – or your mother.” This is the ‘Junior Hockey Bible.' It reads like a dictionary with words and their definition, mostly hockey related. “A mess - Usually quits hockey and goes home to work with his dad cleaning out sh*tters.” “Bobby Big Wheel - This is the guy on the team who thinks he is gods gift to women…But really he's a f*cking joke. He's really going nowhere in life or hockey.” “Sea Donkey - These beasts of the sea are masters at boozing and once intoxicated, they are looking to get some hockey cock…Only approach after 25 beers and all other options have failed including the r*****ed girl with no legs named Bobby No Legs.” “Cinema - This is the honorable act of letting your friends watch you bang…If busted, the actor *the guy whose banging* denies any knowledge of the cinema and normally will get mad at the boys in front of the sl*t just to make her feel better when really, he is laughing on the inside. A great family event for all.” The ‘Junior Hockey Bible' reads more like an instruction manual or a guidebook for SA. So most netizens and locals in Ontario, Canada aren't surprised that five junior hockey boys are accused of gang r*pe right as they're getting drafted to the NHL. The surprising part, to many netizens, is how they allegedly wind up getting away it. Full show notes available at RottenMangoPodcast.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. HR3 - Whole team to blame for Falcons loss to 49ers but offense deserves most blame In hour three Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac let listeners call in and give their take on the Atlanta Falcons 20-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night football last night in the Wake Up Call, talk about how the Falcons offense not capitalizing on takeaways is a problem that must be fixed as soon as possible, let you hear Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris talk about the decision to throw the ball on 4th and 1 and Michael Penix Jr.'s intentional grounding penalty right before the half, react to what Coach Morris had to say, explain why they think that the Falcons coordinators and players are more to blame for last night's loss than Raheem Morris is, talk about how the 49ers did a good job of taking the Falcons wide zone bread and butter away from them last night, and then close out hour three by diving into the life of Beau “Squidbilly” Morgan in The Life of Squid!
Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable break down the Panthers' 48-7 win over Boston College on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. What went into coach Pat Narduzzi's decision to bench Eli Holstein and put in true freshman Mason Heintschel? And why was Heintschel able to have success? How was Heintschel able to rally the whole team around him? What kind of trickle-down effect did that have on the rest of the roster? And what does this say about the freshman QB heading into next week's much tougher task — at Florida State? Our duo answers those questions and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Amanda Cupido doesn't speak Spanish or French. But using AI, she and her team helped a global nonprofit make their internal podcast more accessible to as many employees as possible. Amanda is an audio producer and the founder of a production company called Lead Podcasting. One of her clients is a global nonprofit with over 35,000 employees—and not all of them speak English. So she made them a pitch: what if they added AI into the mix? They would make the podcast in English, and then use generative AI voice tools to translate it into Spanish and French—with a lot of human oversight, of course. Driven by a desire to use these tools for good, the goal was never to replace people, but to reach more people, and it worked. On this episode, Amanda shows what it's like—and what it sounds like—to make a podcast with AI that's still human at its core. You can learn more about Lead Podcasting at leadpodcasting.com~ ~ ~Working Smarter is brought to you by Dropbox Dash—the AI universal search and knowledge management tool from Dropbox. Have you wondered why military teams have crystal clear expectations while business teams often operate in a "fricking void" of clarity? In this episode (complete with surprise appearances from Matt's son), Cam and Otis dive deep with Matt Granados, founder of Life Pulse Inc., on the missing link between expectations and performance."You have to articulate what the expectations are," Matt explains, "but then the key is you have to properly equip your people to be able to live up to them." It's this combination that's often missing in business leadership. From the fascinating distinction between high performance (unsustainable pace) and optimal performance (sustainable excellence) to the provocative question of whether we're forcing growth on people who don't need it, this conversation challenges conventional wisdom about team development. Matt even shares the four levels of performance that transform how leaders view their teams: lazy, unaware, high potential, and the elusive optimal performance.Whether you're leading a team that's struggling with clarity or you're wondering if your own "high performance" might be burning you out, Matt's practical insights offer a refreshing alternative to the "microwave theory" of leadership development.Special Link for 10x Your Team Listeners: https://www.lifepulseinc.com/coMore About Matt:Matt Granados is the founder and CEO of Life Pulse Inc., where he teaches organizations how to stop treating symptoms and finally fix their people problems—for good. A two-time #1 international bestselling author and in-demand speaker, Matt's work is grounded in real-world results, not theories. His proprietary Life Pulse Methodology fuses structure with mindset to create “Perpetual Development”—a practical, scalable system that builds high-performing individuals and teams from the inside out. Matt first proved his power by turning a Craigslist-hired crew into a $40 million sales force. Today, clients like Google, Twitter, and the U.S. Air Force use his system to improve performance, reduce burnout, and transform culture at every level. Whether he's working with executives or entry-level employees, Matt helps people take ownership of their growth and leaders build teams that run on purpose—not pressure.#10xYourTeam #TeamClarity #LeadershipDevelopment #HighPerformanceTeams #OptimalPerformance #TeamGrowth #BusinessLeadership #EmployeeDevelopment #PerformanceCulture #SustainableExcellence #LeadershipInsights #TeamEquipping #PurposeDrivenLeadership #LifePulseMethod #TeamTransformation #NextLevelLeadershipChapter Times and Titles:Setting Clear Expectations [00:00 - 18:52]Introduction to Matt GranadosThe importance of articulating standardsProperly equipping people to meet expectationsThe Military-Business Disconnect [18:53 - 25:00]"Why is it a fricking void in the business world?"Otis's experience with written expectations in the ArmyThe transition challenges for military leaders entering businessThe "All Boats Rise" Philosophy [25:01 - 42:00]Creating a culture where everyone improvesThe "microwave theory" of leadershipBuilding sustainable growth systemsA Family Interruption (and Proud Grandpa Moment) [42:01 - 43:05]Matt's son makes a surprise appearance"It's a family show!"The human side of leadership conversationsThe Four Levels of Performance [43:06 - 46:09]Lazy, unaware, high potential, high performanceThe critical fifth level: optimal performanceWhy do we force unnecessary growth on peopleHigh Performance vs. Optimal Performance [46:10 - 50:38]"High performers: high output, unsustainable pace"The subtle but drastic differencesFinding the sustainable sweet spotElevating the Whole Team [50:39 - End]The Salesforce example of valuing BDRs and SDRsTreating entry-l

HR3 - The passion James Pearce Jr. plays with makes whole team to play harder too In hour three Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac let listeners call in and ask all of their Atlanta Falcons training camp related questions in the Wake Up Call! Mike, Beau, and Ali also talk about how the Falcons have plenty of guys you would want in your corner in a bar fight. Then, The Morning Shift crew lets you hear a soundbite from Dukes & Bell's interview with Atlanta Falcons edge rusher/defensive end Leonard Floyd that they did yesterday where Floyd is talking about James Pearce Jr. being a scrappy guy. Mike, Beau, and Ali react to what Floyd had to say, and talk about how the fire and energy that James Pearce Jr. plays with makes the veterans play harder as well. The Morning Shift crew also talks about how the Falcons do a good job of staying true to themselves by not venturing too far off from their offensive scheme, and the plays they run within that scheme. Mike, Beau, and Ali also talk about how the Falcons run plays they're good at, and not plays the fans, media members, or analysts want them to run. Finally, The Morning Shift crew closes out hour three by diving into the life of Beau “Squidbilly” Morgan in The Life of Squid.

With the frequency and intensity of natural disasters rising, companies are increasingly stepping up to play a role in relief and recovery. But while any financial aid is beneficial to and appreciated by responders and impacted communities, lengthy grant approvals, short-term funding, and rigid spending restrictions can unintentionally hinder responders instead of helping them.We invited Amy Strecker, President of Duke Energy Foundation, to discuss how corporate foundations can best serve impacted communities after a disaster. Duke Energy Foundation is a leader in disaster response, prioritizing rapid aid, sustained recovery, and employee engagement. By fostering strong partnerships with local organizations and prioritizing both immediate relief and long-term rebuilding, Duke Energy Foundation ensures that communities are not just recovering—but emerging stronger and more resilient.Disasters test the strength of communities, but they also reveal the power of collective action. Duke Energy Foundation's approach demonstrates that when businesses step up with urgency, flexibility, and a long-term vision, they don't just help communities rebuild—they help them thrive.Listen for key insights on:Grantmaking strategies for disaster responseBarriers a grant can create to a nonprofit organization and how to avoid creating themMobilizing employees—regardless of their role—in disastersBuilding strong partnerships before disaster strikesResources + Links:Amy Strecker's LinkedInDuke Energy FoundationDuke Energy Foundation commits $1 million to support communities impacted by Hurricane HeleneDuke Energy Line Worker Training (00:00) - Welcome to Purpose 360 (00:13) - Meet Amy Strecker from Duke Energy (04:31) - The Foundation and Duke's Purpose (06:38) - Leadership During Hurricane Season (09:46) - Supporting Grantees (11:27) - Story (13:37) - Working as a Whole Team (15:55) - Line Worker Program (18:01) - Integration (19:40) - Hyperlocal (20:47) - Wins Together (21:47) - Being More Effective (23:52) - Rural (25:12) - Last Thoughts (27:07) - Younger Generations (28:14) - Wrap Up

Dame Ragnall, Octavia Butler for mega-story re-write, from dystopian to Renaissance of Reverent Ingenuity….19 days out…. “As a Queer Elder of many colors, I walk and live, love and thrive with the Grace, Wisdom and ongoing guidance of our Star Ancestors; the Wisdom passed onto me from Above and the medicine I have gained from the many teachers from all paths that have led me to my own wholeness and peace. I am grateful to offer their messages to us all-through the books that I am asked to write, the voice I still have to speak it into the winds and the spirit that still burns with the fire and passion of one who seeks to contribute to a new journey, a better dream for all women and consequently, for all our Human Tribe. The urgency of the moment, the world that is at the precipice of a grand transformation has called me to join the hearts and hands of my sisters, who also find themselves being called to act in this NOW moment. Whatever I can do, whatever I can offer, it is my giveaway at this important time. There can be no greater call for me to answer in this season of my life. The Next generations and those yet to be born require us all to help each other through the fear and intimidation of the FearCallers' Dark Night of our Collective Soul and to collectively light the way toward the world all women deserve to live in-Free in Body, Mind, Heart and Spirit. Should Women serve in combat roles in the military? The recent attempt on President Trump's life brings up the old debate about women in the military and women in combat roles. Framing tends to drive this conversation, and we continually get bogged down in redundant questions. Can women do the job? Are women capable of the achieving the standards? What about the non-physical elements of a protective detail? Do we define the whole by only the deviations from the norm? Or, is this whole debate beginning from the wrong foundation? When quotas are required, the more arbitrary to the success of the mission, the more harm they do to the whole as well as to the individuals. Imagine standing on the parade field of achievement, unsure of whether you crossed the finish line, or if the standards were lowered just so you could be someone else's show pony.
