This week we unofficially officially kick off Halloween season! We talk about some haunts we already have lined up and how our 4 year old twin daughters are obsessed with all things spooky. They are obsessed so much that they even created a game pretending to be Halloween animatronics. We also think back (not that long ago if we are being honest) to days living at home and how we SWORE we were being chased up our steps as soon as the lights went off. Now, let's start celebrating Halloween!

I promised myself I wouldn't yell… and then I did. If you've ever felt that gut-punch after losing it with your child—again—you're not alone. I've been there too.As a mom and therapist, I know how exhausting it is to parent a child who's constantly melting down or talking back. But here's the good news: you can learn to respond, not react—and it starts with calming your own brain first. In this episode, I open up about what really drives those parenting blow-ups and how to calm your own nervous system first—so you can show up for your child with more calm, compassion, and confidence. Why do I lose it when I swore I wouldn't?Even when we know better, sometimes our nervous system doesn't. Our stress response kicks in, hijacks our rational brain, and suddenly we're reacting—not responding. That's what happened to me on a day that started with a broken air conditioner and ended with a wrong pizza order. What set me off wasn't the pizza—it was my empty stomach, my frayed nerves, and the fact that I didn't take time to regulate. We all have triggers. Sometimes it's noise, sometimes it's feeling disrespected, or simply being worn too thin. When we're running on empty, the little things feel huge. What can I do instead of yelling?I get this question all the time. The truth is, it starts with calming your nervous system. That means:Taking a pause, even just to breathe.Saying out loud, “I'm feeling overwhelmed. I need a minute to calm myself.”Reminding yourself, “This isn't misbehavior—it's dysregulation.”I often say to myself, “My calm is their calm.” When my kids are dysregulated, it's not my job to match their energy. It's my job to bring the calm. That's not easy—but it is possible with practice.Want to stay calm when your child pushes every button?Become a Dysregulation Insider VIP and get the FREE Regulation Rescue Kit—your step-by-step guide to stop oppositional behaviors without yelling or giving in.Go to www.drroseann.com/newsletter and grab your kit today. How do I stop the reactivity cycle in parenting? It comes down to awareness. I've learned to notice the signs that I'm headed toward a meltdown: clenched teeth, shallow breathing, skipping meals. That's when I know it's time to step back. Some of the best ways I regulate include:Movement: Even just a few squats or stretching.Hot/cold therapy: I use a heated neck wrap—my kids tease me, but it works!Quick phrases that interrupt the cycle, like: “I will not lose my stuff.”It's not about perfection. It's about progress—and learning to hit the pause button before things escalate. What should I do after I've already blown up?Reflect with self-compassion: Ask, “Was I hungry? Tired? Triggered? Overwhelmed?”Model accountability: Say, “I'm sorry I lost my temper. That's on me.”Focus on emotional repair:“We're both losing it—what can we do to stop this?”“I love you. You're safe. I'm learning, just like you.”Even toddlers understand phrases like “My brain feels hot.” Kids learn emotional regulation skills when we model repair and reflection. How do I rebuild trust and connection with my dysregulated child?Apologize with empathy: It shows your child that it's okay to make mistakes and come back to love.Don't normalize constant conflict: Show your child that healthy relationships have ups and...

On June 13, military veterans and their families and supporters protested in front of the US Supreme Court in Washington, DC, demanding that taxpayer dollars for Donald Trump's ill-fated military parade and his decision to send troops to Los Angeles should be used instead for housing, healthcare, food, and taking care of veterans. Around 60 demonstrators were arrested by Capitol police. In this episode of The Marc Steiner Show, Marc speaks with veterans Michael  T.  McPhearson, Kevin Benderman, and Amber Mathwig, two of whom were arrested on June 13, about the duty they feel to oppose the Trump administration's actions and the vital role veterans have to play in the larger fight against the Trump agenda.Guests:Michael T. McPhearson enlisted in the US Army Reserve while in high school at age 17 in 1981. A distinguished military graduate, McPhearson received an ROTC commission from Campbell University. A small group of the gang is back together to discuss all things Mizzou Olympic sports. The episode starts with the trio discussing what they've missed most about CoMo in their time away, while also voting on a new Illinois state flag at Matthew's request. Then they jump into the show with some extensive talk about Tiger Style's continual issues and historically bad start, before Karen shares updates on behalf of Dylan about the state of women's basketball, which leads to a lively discussion about why fans should still support this team and the opportunities they have to grow as the season is still young. Karen then shares some updates (some good and some not so good) from gym's performance at the Denver quad, peppered in with extensive comments from Shannon Welker's Tuesday press conference. Short rest is hopefully good for this team as Friday the Tigers take on 6-time national champs Oklahoma in Norman. Abigail is next with some exciting track updates from the indoor season, which has kicked off with a bunch of home meets at Hearnes Fieldhouse. Personal bests were in abundance, and it will be awesome to see their continued improvements and see the team in action! Finally, the group wraps up with some diamond sports updates as softball receives a no. 15 preseason ranking from Softball America and CC Harrison is ranked in the pitcher power rankings. This week, I talk with Rob Hart about his new action packed thriller Assassins Anonymous.  We dive into how he came up with the idea for an assassin who swears off killing for moral reasons, why musicals and action movies are similar, and how he created an empathetically accessible assassin as a main character.Assassins Anonymous SynopsisIn this clever, surprising, page-turner, the world's most lethal assassin gives up the violent life only to find himself under siege by mysterious assailants. It's a kill-or-be-killed situation, but the first option is off the table. What's a reformed hit man to do?Mark was the most dangerous killer-for-hire in the world. But after learning the hard way that his life's work made him more monster than man, he left all of that behind, and joined a twelve-step group for reformed killers. When Mark is viciously attacked by an unknown assailant, he is forced on the run. From New York to Singapore to London, he chases after clues while dodging attacks and trying to solve the puzzle of who's after him. All without killing anyone. Or getting killed himself. For an assassin, Mark learns, nonviolence is a real hassle.

In this episode, we have Johnny a veteran who shares his transformative journey from growing up amidst the chaos of his brothers' addiction during the South Florida crack epidemic, to falling into his destructive cycle of substance abuse. Despite excelling in school and initially resisting the path of addiction, Johnny's experimentation with alcohol in middle school eventually led to a spiral of drug use, including cocaine, opioids, and heroin. After experiencing homelessness, multiple overdoses, and the tragic loss of his brother, a moment in an abandoned apartment in Austin, Texas, led Johnny to seek recovery. His sobriety journey began in March 2019, during which he faced the immense challenge of rebuilding his life, re-establishing relationships with his family, and overcoming the remnants of his troubled past. Johnny's story highlights the power of hope, the significance of self-improvement, and the impact of reaching out for help. This is Johnny's story on the Sober Motivation podcast. #720 I didn't want to, but people I trust made me do something I otherwise would have never done. I won't keep you guessing—this is all about watching an anime. Specifically, One Piece. The show has over one thousand episodes! That's insane, but I was assured the story would be worth it. These are the kinds of things we're willing to take a chance on when we trust someone. So, what do I get out of this experience? As I've often said on the show, storytelling is vital for business success. In fact, it's the skill that will help you build the type of trust that gets people to spend their time and money with you. But building influence over people also comes with responsibilities. Today's session is all about having trust and stories as the foundation of your relationship with your audience. Tune in to learn more!
