A podcast where Canadian stereotypes meet and are perpetuated to a sickening degree, as your host, Robin Kooymans, invites friends to his cozy Yellowknife abode to drink beer, talk hockey, and accept his apologies when he talks too much about hockey minutiae rather than being a good host.
Robin and Wyatt talk about the Sharks historic ineptitude (recorded prior to their first regular season victory), trouble in Ottawa, a second player coming forward to accuse Brad Aldrich in Chicago, Jack Campbell on waivers, and how all the Canadian teams are doing so far.
Wyatt Danowski and Devan Grainger join the podcast to talk about the NHL being the worst league yet again after banning Pride Tape, the matching Scheifele and Hellebuyck signings, what Mike Babcock is up to these days, and then slog through all 32 teams and their over-under lines for regular season point totals and whether we would hit the over or under.
Robin and Wyatt get together to talk about Wyatt's incredible predictions in Round 1, including him calling Akira Schmid's run of form, the firing of Darryl Sutter, what to do with the Winnipeg Jets moving forward, and their Round 2 playoff predictions.
Robin, Wyatt, and Stephane make their picks for each round heading into the playoffs, discuss their picks for major NHL awards, and then discuss the recent coach and GM firings.
Wyatt, Stephane, and Robin talk recent and not quite as recent trades (Horvat, Tarasenko, O'Reilly), next moves for teams/trades to look out for, the evolving saga of Kane and Toews, and an updated playoff picture with some interesting teams making noise in the East.
Robin, Wyatt, and Stephane discuss the recent Bruce Boudreau firing and the deplorable state of the Canucks at length, then move on to discussing Darryl Sutter being a jerk to Jakob Pelletier, Torts vs. Technology, All-Star selections and snubs, Steven Stamkos hitting 500 career goals, the current state of the tank for Bedard, the Al Rollins award/Reverse Rollins, and, finally, the ridiculous goal-scoring pace McDavid is on this season.
Robin is joined by co-hosts Scott and Wyatt to discuss the NBA's recent changing of names for its awards and how the NHL should follow suit. The guys offer up their picks for new award names and then give their picks for the recipients for this season thus far. They then have a chat about some of the most mind-blowing stats they've noticed thus far in the NHL this season, and finish things off with a comparison between imaginary fan voted Team Canada and Team USA rosters followed by a good, old-fashioned rant about the NHL and Gary Bettman sucking.
In this episode, Robin and Wyatt go over some weird stuff happening in the world of goaltending, some sad stuff going on in Vancouver, some insane stuff going on in the worlds of J-Rob and Tage Thompson, pay their respects to the late Great Borje Salming, discuss an updated coach hot seat rankings, and talk about some teams off to shocking starts to the season.
Wyatt and Robin discuss the Mitchell Miller Saga, the Leafs' goalie situation, an update on the coaching hot seat rankings (including some juicy Barry Trotz gossip), the fun times that are Mullett Arena, some pleasant surprises by players to start the season, and some disappointing starts by players as well.
Robin meets with co-hosts Wyatt Danowski and Scott Dowler to discuss how the start of the season has gone for the Jets, Canucks, and Leafs, what some of the most pleasant and disappointing surprises have been thus far in the season, who each thinks the first coach to be fired in the NHL this season will be, the ongoing Hockey Canada saga, the NHL's inability to properly market itself, and the next level ineptitude of the bluelines in Montreal, Chicago, and Arizona.
Wyatt, Stephane, and Robin discuss the depressing details of the Hockey Canada saga and then give their top to bottom predictions for each division in the NHL heading into a new 2022-23 season.
Topics for today's show include: All the coaching news from the past two weeks (Trotz, Maurice, DeBoer, Tortorella, Richardson), the recent Stanley Cup Finals, NHL award winners, the Hockey Canada debacle, and the HHOF Class of 2022
Wyatt, Stephane, and Robin discuss over occasionally spotty internet what the Oilers need to do moving forward, how Canada's cup drought has somehow made it to 29 straight years, what the state of the Bruins will be for next year now that half their team is on long term IR and Bruce Cassidy has been fired, who their Conn Smythe favourites are now heading into the finals, and who they've got for the finals.
Robin, Wyatt, and Stephane discuss the ridiculousness of the no offside call in Game 1 of the Western Conference FInals as well as the blown no goal call in Game 5 of the Battle of Alberta, review their predictions from last round, make new predictions for this round, and run down their Conn Smythe favourites list heading into Round 3.
Wyatt and Stephane join to talk about the historic ineptitude of the Leafs, new and exciting coaching vacancies and front office vacancies in the NHL, how well they did with their round 1 predictions, and to make some bold predictions heading into round 2.
Wyatt Danowski and Stephane Poitras join as co-hosts to discuss some funny stories and stats from the end of the NHL's regular season, to make their Round 1 playoffs predictions, and to dive into their picks for the major subjective awards. The awards picks include a spin on the normal proceedings, as we pick the inverse of each award (i.e. the Shart trophy as the player judged to be least valuable to his team as the inverse of the Hart).
Wyatt Danowski and Scott Dowler join the podcast to discuss the death knells blown to their respective teams, the Jets and Canucks, the passing of Mike Bossy and then whether he is the greatest goal scorer in NHL history, the Capitals bringing back the screaming eagle jersey and what older jerseys we would like to see brought back, and finally who we would choose from each conference (of the teams likely to make the playoffs) if we finished first in that conference and got to choose our opponent.
Wyatt Danowski and Stephane Poitras join as co-hosts to discuss the trade deadline, Eugene Melnyk's passing which we find out about mid-podcast, the playoff picture in the West, and our thoughts on the hotly contested Norris and Hart trophy races. I also explain why it took me so long to record an episode since the last one.
Robin, Wyatt, and Stephane get back together after a long hiatus to discuss the Kodak Black situation in Florida, coaching changes in Winnipeg and Vancouver and their degrees of success thus far, and what to do about the Edmonton Oilers (goalie trade, coaching change, Evander Kane?) when they are joined by an unexpected guest. Following this brief foray into the inner workings of a narcissistic university-level hockey coach, the podcast continues to talk about John Klingberg and Jakob Chychrun being on the trade market, Bobby Clarke throwing Ron Hextall under the bus, the Olympics situation, and the recently announced NHL All-Star rosters.
Scott Dowler and Wyatt Danowski join as co-hosts on this episode to discuss the Canucks' firings, the Alain Vigneault firing, the Leafs/Jets fracas, Mackenzie Blackwood's "mask" mask, and then take a long walk counting down the recently released Forbes NHL franchise valuation list. Spoiler alert: Arizona is last.
Wyatt Danowski and Stephane Poitras join as co-hosts to discuss the New Jersey new "Jersey" jersey, the Lemieux bite, Marchand rat reversion, and Panarin glove toss, the state of the troubled Canadian teams, the waiver wire, the state of the Isles, the playoff odds for teams now that we're between 1/4 to 1/3 of the way through the schedule, more Kraken calamities, and the next coach to get fired.
Wyatt Danowski joins as a co-host to discuss a wide range of topics that inevitably all seem to find their way to a unifying negative core. We discuss Leon Draisaitl getting no respect despite being on pace for a single season goal scoring record, the Jack Eichel trade, big trouble in little Chicago (cont'd.), other teams off to crappy starts, how long it will take for the Canucks to finally clear house, Dion Phaneuf retiring, the most disappointing new player additions of the year thus far, and the most surprising new player additions of the year thus far.
Wyatt Danowski and Stephane Poitras join the podcast to talk about the NHL and Chicago Blackhawks' terrible handling of the sexual assault case from 2010 and whether or not we can still in good conscience be hockey fans. We talk about all of the levels of people who failed Kyle Beach and each of the other three assault survivors, and how desperately the league needs to burn everything to the ground including Gary Bettman. We delve a little into some news regarding the first three weeks of the NHL season at the end of the podcast, but honestly it doesn't really matter.
Stephane Poitras and Wyatt Danowski join again as co-hosts to celebrate mid-Leafs/Habs game the first night of regular season hockey for five Canadian teams (Leafs, Habs, Jets, Oilers, Canucks). They talk about some recent stories kicking around in the news and make some rapid-fire predictions heading into the season proper.
Wyatt Danowski and Scott Dowler join to discuss Robin Lehner's tweet-storm, Evander Kane's general crappiness, the Canucks' big signings and rightful place in their division's pecking order, and Olympic roster projections for the international Big 5: Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, and Finland. Sadly, Scott's internet gives out on him after the Canada projections.
Stephane Poitras and Wyatt Danowski join as co-hosts to give their picks for the divisional standings in the upcoming NHL season. After a long slog through all 32 teams, we deliver our takes on who is the most/least improved team heading into the season, who had the most baffling offseason, and which offseason transaction was the best/worst in the league. Last but not least we make our way-too-early Stanley Cup finals picks.
Robin and Wyatt (and occasionally Scott and his beautiful singing voice) hop on the podcast to discuss the Entry Draft as the picks come in, while also touching on the expansion draft and how Seattle is doing so far, and all the wild trades coming in over the last couple days. They go until pick 18 (Jets) and then mercifully sign off after almost two hours.
Scott Dowler and Wyatt Danowski join as guests to make their picks for the Seattle Kraken expansion draft now that the official protection lists are available to the public. Robin and Scott have made quite a few changes from their previous go-around a week ago, while Wyatt is going pure chaos by making his picks live, on-the-spot, and stipulating that he will not pick a single player either Robin or Scott takes. They have also tasked themselves with making hypothetical trades with other teams who may need some help from the Kraken to alleviate cap issues, or who just want to make a good old fashioned hockey trade. In any case, there are a lot of moving parts and variables, but the end results prove that the Kraken should be able to put together a playoff-calibre team this year, proving yet again how favourable this expansion draft formula truly is.
Scott Dowler joins the podcast for a Seattle Kraken mock expansion draft. We went to CapFriendly, set our protected lists and picked our teams, and now we're comparing them against each other, as well as a panel of three experts who did a mock draft at The Athletic. *Note: This episode was recorded the evening prior to the Duncan Keith trade, so, yes, we are psychic.
Guest Wyatt Danowski joins host Robin Kooymans for a massive content dump on the first episode of Let's Get Pucked Up in over a month. We talk the Lightning winning a cup, the Conn Smythe debate, Kucherov's epic presser/airing of grievances, our own airing of NHL grievances for things that have annoyed us in the past month, the magical run the Habs had and how they might do next year, can Tampa three-peat?, NHL awards, the untimely passing of Matiss Kivlenieks, and lastly how excited we are for the expansion draft, NHL draft, and free agency at the end of July.
Having hit rock bottom from the Leafs' epic collapse the night before, host Robin Kooymans turns, perhaps unwisely on one account, to the company of friends for some cheering up. He is joined by Wyatt Danowski in Winnipeg and Devan Grainger in China to try and figure out what the hell the Leafs do after their fifth straight first round exit. After exploring a number of Mitch Marner trade options, the trio turns to discussing the newly announced Vezina finalists, previewing the Habs/Jets series, and for once taking a look around the rest of the league to discuss how the playoffs are going stateside and who they like moving forward.
Wyatt Danowski and Devan Grainger join from Winnipeg, Canada and Xian, China, respectively, to deliver spicy hot takes on the Jets' recent sweep of the Oilers, and the Leafs building a commanding 3-1 lead over the Habs.
While the audio quality may not be the finest, the times had were solid. Please enjoy this postgame analysis from elated Jets fans Wyatt Danowski, Stefan Goodman, and Robin Kooymans and gracious loser Oilers fans Stephane Poitras and Sylvain Poitras.
Frequent collaborators Wyatt Danowski and Devan Grainger join the pod once again to discuss where Connor McDavid's insane 2021 regular season ranks in NHL history, the latest in the Jack Eichel saga, what the H-E-double-hockey-sticks is going on in New York with the Rangers, how Devan, Stephane, and I ended up doing with our pre-season predictions, and our postseason picks now that almost all matchups have been finalized.
Frequent co-hosts, Devan Grainger and Wyatt Danowski, join the podcast to discuss the current form of absolute specimen, Jack Campbell, the recent series between the Leafs and Jets, the upcoming trade deadline, Covid in Vancouver and what that could mean for the Canucks season moving forward, "Ineptitude Corner" with the Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues, and the Philadelphia Flyers, playoff races heating up, and, lastly, our picks for all of the major awards that require voter subjectivity.
Guests Wyatt Danowski and Devan Grainger join host, Robin Kooymans, to talk about the highly entertaining and ongoing series between the Jets and Leafs, the Jets passing a significant franchise milestone, the mess that is the Sabres, Darryl Sutter popping up behind the Calgary bench again, Tom Wilson's latest suspension, and finally the worst contract in the league.
Scott "Prowler" Dowler and Ryan "Cousin" Kooymans join as guests this episode to discuss a wide range of topics including which NHL fan base is suffering the most right now, is Sidney Crosby a top 5 hockey G.O.A.T., Claude Julien's firing, other coaches on the hot seat, and if the Canucks still have any hope at making the playoffs. Oh, and also, Mike Babcock drops by yet again to tell us about his new job and his changed ways. Listen, won't you?
Devan Grainger joins again as a guest to chat postgame following the Leafs' latest victory over the Habs. We discuss the Leafs' effort as a team lately, the North division and where each team is at, highlighting (lowlighting?) the Canucks at this point in the season, and then are unexpectedly joined by guest, Wyatt Danowski, to talk about the Penguins' double hiring of Ron Hextall and Brian Burke.
Let's Get Pucked Up's Winnipeg Jets analyst, Wyatt Danowski, joins the podcast, and briefly takes over hosting duties due to an unfortunate spill. We talk Jets, Laine/Roslovic for Dubois, the North division so far, the demise of Tony DeAngelo's hockey career, Jim Rutherford leaving his GM post in Pittsburgh, and how Covid is affecting the season so far.
Wyatt Danowski and Devan Grainger stop by as guests to discuss the state of the Jets and Leafs following one of many delightful matches to come between our favourite teams. We are then greeted by new NBC Hockey Analyst and friend of the podcast, Mike Babcock, to discuss his new role on NBC, the Edmonton Oilers, and his new line of merchandise he'll be selling through NBC among other things. We finish things off by talking about our top surprises of the new season, and make a set of ridiculously early spicy hot takes based on data gathered from the first few games of the season.
Stephane Poitras and Devan Grainger join as guests to discuss some predictions for the upcoming 2021 NHL season, including a deep dive into the all-Canadian North Division. They then continue on to make predictions regarding the top 4 for each of the other divisions, as well as their picks for who might surprise this season. Other topics include: Evander Kane bankruptcy, will the season even get finished?
Spencer Phillips and Devan Grainger join as guests to dish on who their winners and losers are from the recent free agency period in the NHL, and to settle the fiery debate that came out of nowhere: did the Montreal Canadiens have a good off-season, and, if not, was it worse than that of the Vancouver Canucks?
Wyatt Danowski, Devan Grainger, and, on rare occasion Scott Dowler from a distance, join host, Robin Kooymans, on a live draft episode of Let's Get Pucked Up. We discuss the draft picks as they come in hot and fresh up until the Habs at #16 (this doesn't need to be a four hour episode), as well as our desires for our teams at their draft positions, and the perplexing Max Domi trade from earlier in the day.
R-Money and Graingles talk Lightning cup win, Pietrangelo, NHL Draft, Jim Rutherford carving up the Penguins, Lundqvist buyout, trade rumours, and much much more on another exhilarating episode of Two Leafs Fans, No Cup.
Devan Grainger joins again from North Bay, Ontario as a guest to discuss our general apathy toward the playoffs at this point, the unique circumstances that are leading up to what is sure to be a crazy offseason for goalies switching teams, and a quick and hard segment on Leafs stuff, including the Kapanen trade and which right-handed D they should target.
A trio of Saskatonians (Simon Fanner, Erin Hopkins, Engineer Miles) join the podcast to discuss the plight of Simon's team (Habs), their favourite moments of the NHL's Return to Play so far, their predictions for conference finals, finals, and Stanley Cup champion, and to try to figure out a way to talk about Erin's team (Red Wings), in a positive light moving forward.
Devan Grainger and Spencer Phillips come on the pod again to join host, Robin Kooymans, in an attempted therapeutic episode for themselves as they grieve the end of another disappointing Leafs' season. They go through the five stages of grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depresssion, Acceptance), spending the bulk of time in the Anger and Bargaining categories, and try to decide how to move forward as Leafs fans while still retaining a shred of dignity.
Wyatt Danowski guests again to co-mourn with host, Robin Kooymans, over the play-in round demises and lack of an Alexis Lafreniere for both the Leafs and Jets. They also make fun of the NHL's presentation of Round Two of the Draft Lottery, talk about general play-in round impressions, and give their predictions for what shall heretofore be canonically referred to as round one of the playoffs despite the fact that the play-in round was obviously playoffs. Drink the pain away.
Day 4 of the play-in has arrived and players are dropping like flies. Wyatt Danowski and Devan Grainger join as guests to discuss the plights of the Jets and Leafs in each of their play-in series, and briefly touch on their shock at the poor performance of the Florida Panthers.
Devan Grainger and Stephen Smart join the podcast to talk their initial thoughts after a disappointing Leafs loss in Game 1 of their play-in series vs. Columbus. We cover topics including how the Leafs can beat a team with as good of a defensive structure as the Blue Jackets, what a loss in the play-in series means for job security for the people in charge for the Leafs, and then give our picks for Best Player, Worst Player, Most Pleasant Surprise, and Biggest Disappointment. We also delve into talking a bit about a few other series that have caught our attention during the NHL's Return to Play, whether it be due to wild upsets or juicy storylines. Good to have hockey back!
Frequent guests Wyatt Danowski and Spencer Phillips join the podcast to talk NHL Return to Play, and how the NHL is somehow the only league in professional sports to screw up what should be a gimme in adequately supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. The show then transitions to focusing on whether we can remember what even happened in the 2019-20 NHL season to the tune of Wyatt and Spencer competing over a quiz commissioned by your host, Robin Kooymans, and based loosely on a similar quiz published earlier in the week by The Athletic.
