Another Thursday is upon us which means a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast is here to help you close out the week and get you amped up for the weekend. This week, the guys looked at Wanye's current mouse situation, talked NHL's return to play, read another listener survey, and spoke to Scott Hastings from OddsShark to break down the latest news from the world of sports gambling. To kick off today’s show, the boys got started with a brand new listener survey, which led to a conversation about the daily countdown that we usually do on Instagram and how we can't wait to get it going again when the NHL firms up a start date. Changing gears, Wanye gave an update to the mouse infestation he's battling at the Manor, including a call to our friends at Japa Machinery for some advice on how to handle the problem. While he is making some progress in his quest for a mouse-free life, there is still plenty of work left to be done. Somehow the mouse-hunt talk led into a conversation about Jay's interest in becoming a Tommy Bahama-man as he gracefully ages, and the rest of the guys joined in with their fashion goals as they get older. Back to sports, the guys briefly touched on the NHL's return that scheduled for next month and how exciting it was to finally see the news that the league will be returning to the ice sooner than later. Lastly, the guys wrapped up today’s podcast by welcoming Scott Hastings from OddsShark to help break down the latest betting trends from the NFL, and the latest news in the world of sports.
Tyler is back with more COVID talk...yay World Hockey Report's Cody Janzen joins to preview Team Canada and the World Junior Championships (2:30). Tyler then gives the College Hockey Scoreboard (42:00), and talks about the NHL return date, and why the players may need to give up more money than they want(51:30). Some teams want to possibly play outdoors next season (1:17:30) and what is the greatest goal of the 1st century(1:32:45)? Music: "Mondays" by Onlap MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/the-kuehl-show
The DNVR Avalanche Podcast drops looking at the issues currently facing the NHL's return to play including the financial divide between the owners and players as well as how divisions and conferences may shape out and the impacts of them.
The guys start off the podcast with their normal shenanigans and shift into Hall of Fame talk, Playoff talks and how COVID spikes in Florida can affect the NHL's plan, as well as a players decision to potentially opt out of the postseason. The boys also discuss some of the best teams assembled in NHL history and how they tie into NHL dynasties. Finally, Andy's life lesson will be sure to make you question some of his (friends..?) life choices.
Josh Kesner joins today's episode to discuss the return of the NHL. We talk about the success of the bubble in Canada. We give our thoughts on how the play-in tournament went down and if it was worth doing. We talk about the surprise run the Blackhawks went on. We give our predictions on how the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs will go down. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Carter Hart left the Philadelphia Flyers' scrimmage on Tuesday afternoon and he did not return. Due to the NHL's Return to Play Policy, the team is not allowed to inform the public on what exactly happened. Colby Cohen. co-host of Flyers' pregame and post-game shows, tweeted out that it was just back spasms. While I don't think this is a SERIOUS issue that should hold him out a significant amount of time, I think it is fair to ask this question: Can these back spasms cause Hart discomfort once meaningful games are in action? Goaltenders move around so quickly in the blue paint and they constantly push off side-to-side to the point where it's possible to tweak the back again. I am worried that this injury can linger and come back when games are meaningful. Brian Elliott is a veteran backup that I can rely on, but this playoff run is all about Hart getting experience. Even if this isn't a traditional playoff atmosphere. It would kill the entertainment of these games if he isn't the netminder in-between the pipes. Also, in the podcast I discuss Sean Couturier, a Selke Trophy finalist, Shayne Gostisbehere, Joel Farabee, and more! Check out my sponsor! Recorded June 9, 2020 My sincerest apologies for the lateness of this posting... Recent events have shown that there are things more important than Caps hockey. This podcast episode talks about two of those events. The first of which of course have to do with the racial conflicts touched off by George Floyd's murder. Friend of the show and fellow Caps fan Stewart Small takes the reins and leads both Anna and I in an honest and hopefully thought provoking discussion about race relations and what can be learned from recent events so that there may be a chance they are not repeated. Both Stewart and Anna share very intensely personal stories about their experiences as both witnesses and victims of racism. In a transitional segment yes, we actually discuss some hockey. Phase 2 of the NHL's Return to Play plan is underway and already the seeds have been planted. Also Anna and I discuss the nomination of Michal Kempny for the Bill Masterton Memorial trophy. Finally we celebrate the life of fellow Caps fan Frank Kirchner. We honor his memory and his life with this segment as best we can. He was a great fan but an even better man. We wish his loved ones well and offer our deepest condolences to them. The dedication to Frank begins at 1:13:30 of this episode for all of out non hockey friends who knew and loved him. Hope this isn't too serious of an episode, but it had to be done. One day soon hockey will return to try and provide a bit of relief... #BlackLivesMatter #ALLCAPS #RIPFrankKirchner

Hockey is back!! And that is the best thing about the NHL's Return to Play plan. Mike and I break down what we like and do not like about this plan...here's a hint...the draft lottery is a mess! But we start with a story from the Athletic where each of the 24 playoff teams are allowed to draft a player from one of the seven non-playoff teams. Its clearly not going to happen, not real, but extremely entertaining and leads to a lot of discussion...especially with regard to snubs. We talk about Peter Cehlarik leaving Boston and signing with Lugano. He played 40 games in the NHL with 11 points, but felt that he was always waiting for the mistake that got him sent down. We break down possible captains for the Bruins when Chara retires. We respond to Larry Brooks' response to a question regarding Rick Nash's playoff woes in 2014 and discuss a current Ranger, Kaapo Kakko and his return to the Rangers. Based on what John Davidson says, we have no idea what he is saying. Finally, we present a tweet from Blake Wheeler regarding his home state of Minnesota and his feelings on what is happening to his home. Give us a listen, its a little longer show than usual but full of opinion makers. Thank you and Enjoy the Show!

In order for Major League Baseball to have a season in 2020, the players and owners must reach an agreement on number of games, salary, etc. Will a deal get done? We discuss potential solutions, brainstorm ideas and estimate a logical deadline for an agreement to be met (20:40 - 38:40). The MLB is floating around the idea of having a universal designated hitter and adding four more teams to its postseason. We share our thoughts on the DH (warning: anti-DH rant incoming!), ideas for changing the All-Star Game and World Series, and we discuss the prospect of expanded playoffs (38:40 - 1:18:18). Next, the NBA. Will we get basketball this summer, and what will it look like? Is Disney World the right host for the postseason? (1:18:18 - 1:37:05). If the MLB and NBA don't return in 2020, what teams from both sports are hurt the most? What teams could benefit from a shortened season? Are there strategies that teams may attempt to capitalize on, that they otherwise wouldn't in a full season?

Gary Bettman spoke to the media about the NHL's Return to Play Plan and I am very impressed with their idea. It's not the most perfect concept in the world as it is a little gimmicky at times, but ultimately, I think it will work and it makes sense. It actually gives an advantage to the Philadelphia Flyers so hey, why complain? I compare the NHL to the disgusting proposal by the MLB owners. STOP BEATING AROUND THE BUSH!!! Check out my sponsor!
