Riley and Derek start the show by talking about their past weekends and Christmas shopping. Jumping into some hockey talk, the boys discuss the Philadelphia Flyers losing 3 straight but bouncing back against the Blue Jackets, the Tippett-Frost-Michkov line, Konecny continuing to produce, and Flyers goaltending. Going around the league they discuss Luke Richardson being fired by the Blackhawks, the New York Rangers continuing to struggle and trading their captain Jacob Trouba to the Ducks, extending goalie Igor Shesterkin, and the Colorado Avalanche swapping goaltender Alexandar Georgiev with Mackenzie Blackwood from the Sharks. Before we get to our interview we discuss the Toronto Maple Leafs, Anthony Stolarz and Auston Matthews, and Matvei Michkov signing an autograph after getting kicked out of a game. Former NHL enforcer defenseman Behn Wilson joined us for an interview! Big Behn tells us what he's up to these days, and a book that was recently written about him. Jumping into his playing career Wilson talks to us about playing in juniors, being drafted by Philadelphia, and learning how to fight. We ask Behn about being such a skilled defenseman and point scorer while also being tough, and playing with Bobby Clarke, Bill Barber, and Reggie Leach. He also dives into Bobby Clarke's leadership, playing with Mel Bridgman, Ken Linseman, and a ton more. Finishing up the interview Behn Wilson tells us about some of the toughest players he ever fought and tells some legendary stories. Finishing up the show Derek and Riley answer fan submitted questions presented by Klyr Rum. Nasty Knuckles is an original show created by co-hosts, Riley Cote and Derek "Nasty" Settlemyre. "Henderson has scored for Canada."Those five words, spoken by radio and TV legend Foster Hewitt, had me and five friends jumping up and down all over my parent's house on September 28, 1972. We had just witnessed history as Team Canada came back to defeat The U.S.S.R. in an eight game hockey summit series that put the Cold War on Ice.This episode, I speak with author, sports commentator and former Toronto Sun colleague Scott Morrison. His new book, "1972: The Series That Changed Hockey Forever," is the A-Z on a dramatic and unforgettable event. Scott spoke with several hockey heroes, including Phil Esposito (who wrote the forward to the book), Paul Henderson, Brad Park, Bobby Clarke, Ken Dryden, Yvan Cournoyer, Ron Ellis and others and answers every lingering question -- including whether or not Pat Stapleton smuggled the winning puck out of Moscow. Come back to September of 1972 in this conversation steeped in nostalgia -- not just for the days of a 14-team NHL but for a nation and a culture where colour TV was still a novelty and bitcoins was what you did to see if coins were real.

Also, do opinions change on the Bruins as a contender with Tuukka Rask making his return, and Bobby Clarke speaks out on Ron Hextall.Next, in "Granger Things", Jesse Granger gives the latest on Jack Eichel, his debut for the Golden Knights on the horizon, and Eichel's thoughts on the NHL pulling out of the Olympics. Also, how the odds have changed for the tournament with the subtraction of NHL players, and Cale Makar's odds for player awards. To wrap up, Ian and Sean discuss the NHL going by a point system in the mailbag, and in "This Week in Hockey History," the Philadelphia Flyers play too rough against the Soviet Red Army team, and Pat Hughes breaks a Wayne Gretzky record.Have a question for Ian and Sean? Rob Pizzo from CBC Sports is joined by Jesse Granger from the Athletic NHL, with Sara Civian on assignment this week. The boys discuss the Edmonton Oilers interest in Evander Kane, the job Ken Holland has done constructing that team, Bobby Clarke's harsh criticism of Ron Hextall taking Nolan Patrick ahead of Cale Makar in 2017 and Jack Eichel's first practice with the Vegas Golden Knights.Julian McKenzie, associate editor for the Athletic NHL joins Rob and Jesse and adds his two cents on John Klingberg's contract demands in Dallas, Marc Bergevin joining the Los Angeles Kings front office and he provides an update on the Montreal Canadiens General Manager search. The guys also discuss if Canadian teams are putting themselves in jeopardy to qualify for a playoff spot by postponing games until capacity limits are lifted in Canada and they praise the powerful Hockey Diversity ad which came out last week as we continue to fight racism in hockey. Finally, Jesse profiles his in-depth column on Robin Lehner helping others who suffer from mental health, and Rob and Jesse talk about rapper Kodak Black's antics last night at the Canucks/Panthers game which broke hockey twitter on Tuesday evening. NHL Insider and host of Ray and Dregs, Darren Dreger joined Matt and Blake for his regular Wednesday appearance. Talked about the difficulty in chasing around rescheduling. Teams are eagerly waiting the release of the full schedule. As nice as it would be for all teams to have a 5-7 day break, the NHL needs that calendar real estate. PA hasn’t had that conversation with the league yet, where the season would be extended. They are going to have to use every day available to them. The concern is how many back to back games there will be, how the travel looks. Talked about Evander Kane and where he might go. Doesn’t understand why it’s the NHL looking into the cross-border transgretions. Thinks that Kane’s team was blindsided by this. The NHL doens’t know what the outcome will be. Talked about the potential of him going to the Oilers. Connor McDavid would involved in those conversations. Dregs understands that Connor isn’t shy about letting managment know what he thinks should be done. Talked about the Canucks GM chair that is still open. His sources are reluctant to say who is coming in for in-person interviews. Talked about the potential of Pat Verbeek. Dregs can’t distance that name. Talked about Verbeek as a player and the sandpaper that is there. Talked about Bobby Clarke throwing Ron Hextall under the bus. Says that Hextall wasn’t that great at sharing his vision around the rest of the organization. Just seems wierd taht Clarke would throw it out there. Jeff Paterson, our Canucks reporter and one half of Rink Wide, joined Matt and Blake. Talked about all he has learned in the last 24 hours with the “Kodak moment” last night. Talked about how good the Panthers are as a team. They are a deep team that can spread their goals around. Goals from defense has become a topic in this town because the Canucks just aren’t getting enough production from the backend. Talked about getting Rathbone in to boost those numbers. JPat has all the time for the conversation but how much longer are they going to get nothing from the right side. Talked about how this team needs to score more goals. Five of the games Bruce has coached, they have scored 1 or 2. You would take contributions from other parts of the lineup. Talked about EP40. Says he couldn’t even figure out how to get shots on. This simplest of tasks are difficult for this guy. One point in four games since Christmas break. Jeff is worried about Pettersson. Talked about Tanner Pearson. He must have gotten a membership to Fight Club for Christmas. Thinks that he has held his own in the last couple fights. Says that he has played to his strengths under Boudreau. Jamaicans abroad were excited with news of the launch of a radio station with them at the centre – The Bridge 99FM. That was in July.In November, the Caribbean Global Network-owned station launched into Canada with a series of simulcasts with G98.7FM."This is the very first time that three commercial stations from Canada, New York and Jamaica are simulcasting, all in the name of connecting Jamaica with the US/Canadian Diaspora,” said the network's boss Bobby Clarke.“It is hugely significant as it allows listeners/viewers in these markets to be connected through a virtual media super highway that will benefit them culturally," he added.Clarke said he would continue to work to strengthen connections with the diaspora. He sees Jamaicans as the strongest promoters of the country abroad. We repeat this 2021 episode with Clarke and Impacting Jamaica host Shelly-Ann Harris. Hosted on Acast. Dave Poulin-just an amazing guy! Never drafted, but at age 25 was named the Flyers captain - the torch handed to him by the great Bobby Clarke. Dave talks to us about his time in Sweden and how that shaped him as a captain, what it was like being the liaison between the players and coach Mike Keenan, the weight of trying to live up to the Broad Street Bullies, how amazing Ed Snider was, and some more insight into the behind the scenes respect shown to my dad at the Winter Classic. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
“It was Keenan and I who went to the hospital to identify him.”“He took us down to the end of the dock, and said and I got something to tell you, I'm going to retire when I get back.”“I wasn't good enough is the short answer.”He almost took a sales job with Procter and Gamble, giving up pro hockey forever. He was told he was told too small too many times. He lost a friend and a teammate. He had to take over for Bobby Clarke. Imagine. He was the first captain I remember as a Flyers fan and a great one at that.#20 Dave Poulin. That Philadelphia team of the mid-80's was really special and he was the heart of it.Get to know him.I'm your host Zak Kindrachuk. My dad used to play hockey.
“The majority of players never win the Cup. When you accomplish it, that's something, that's not matchable.”“I took the Flyers general manager job anyway, and wasn't ready for it.”"My loyalty was always to Mr. Snider. I doubt I would have come back if it wasn't for him.”THE Captain. The greatest Flyer. My dad's teammate. Lou Nanne had decided he would leave his position as senior vice president for the North Stars in April 1991 to take a job in the corporate world. But Lou's plans changed, at least temporarily, when the North Stars went on a shocking run to the Stanley Cup Finals. In this episode, Lou recalls how the North Stars got on a roll, how gratifying it was to see Mike Modano and Bobby Smith involved in the success and if it was odd to watch Bobby Clarke and Bob Gainey running the show. Yes, Louie also tells some fantastic Norm Green stories.
