Today on Mea Culpa, we're revisiting a conversation from August with Army veteran, former congressional candidate, and democracy advocate Marcus Flowers. Together, we examined Donald Trump's accelerating authoritarian instincts, from secret meetings with Vladimir Putin and sidelining U.S. allies to weaponizing the Department of Justice against critics. Grounded in Flowers' military and national security experience, this conversation remains strikingly relevant as we break down how culture wars, fear, and political spectacle are used to consolidate power, erode democratic norms, and normalize retaliation against dissent. Birthright Israel is celebrating 25 years of offering a free 10-day trip to Israel to every young Diaspora Jew with the hope of fighting assimilation. The celebrations include a $900 million fundraising campaign. But, as Haaretz Jewish World editor Judy Maltz told the Haaretz Podcast, their traditional mission and "fun in the sun" marketing campaign have become deeply problematic, given the battering of the image of the Jewish state in the eyes of many young people around the world. Instead of unaffiliated Jews, Maltz said, the programs are increasingly filled with participants who are "presumably already very much in touch with their Jewish identity," begging the question as to whether this is where hundreds of millions in Jewish philanthropic dollars and funding by the state of Israel should be going. On the podcast, Maltz discusses the reasons behind the shift, based on more than 30 interviews with Birthright participants, and those who chose not to go. Many of those interviewees, she reports "feel very distant from Israel. They feel very uncomfortable with its actions, especially over the past two years with what's happened in Gaza." Maltz also discusses a new and different trend she has reported on: trips to Israel by young leftist Jews who choose to spend their time off providing "protective presence" in West Bank Palestinian villages menaced by violent settlers. "Being on the ground is really the only way to bear witness," she was told by the young Americans camping out in the villages. Read more: Has Birthright Become a Toxic Brand? Jack Horgan-Jones and Harry McGee join Hugh Linehan to look back on the week in politics:· Ireland, along with Spain, Slovenia and the Netherlands, will boycott next year's Eurovision Song Contest in protest of Israel's participation. RTÉ said in a statement on Thursday that it would be “unconscionable” for Ireland to partake in the event given the “appalling loss of lives in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis there”.· Far more contentious was the proposal to rename Rathgar's Herzog Park in south Dublin. Named in honour of Belfast-born Chaim Herzog, Israel's president from 1983 to 1993, who spent his early childhood in Dublin. Perhaps including the Irish-Jewish community in the process might have dampened a lot of the controversy that has erupted this week.· Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was in Ireland this week, but it was drones more than diplomatic ties that made the headlines. It exposed the gaps in our national security, especially with Ireland holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from next July, when a lot of state leaders will be visiting these shores.· And will the Government's new infrastructure plan to accelerate the delivery of vital projects bear fruit before the next general election? Plus, the panel picks their favourite Irish Times pieces of the week:· Patrick Freyne's continuing vendetta against Kevin the Carrot, a row over state pensions could destabilise Germany's new coalition, and the sudden death of ‘low-key national treasure' Hugh Wallace. BT & Sal torch Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner for his "tone-deaf" comments and for treating the Yankees as a business first, calling his $100 million payment to New York City an "excuse" for not spending to win. The hosts criticize Hal's complacency with Brian Cashman, demanding accountability for the championship drought and lack of player development. The debate spills over to ranking New York's sports owners (Mara, Woody, Cohen, Dolan) by their commitment to winning. In a hypothetical blockbuster, Sal makes the case for an aggressive Mets trade for Fernando Tatis Jr. over signing free agents. NFL Insider Brian Baldinger joins to dismantle the 2-10 Giants' claim that they're better than their record. The show wraps with a breakdown of the historic Thanksgiving Football slate, the "Bald Faced Lie, Bald Faced Truth" segment, and a "Call of the Day" where a furious Yankee fan "savages" Brandon Tierney for not being aggressive enough against Hal, vowing a boycott against the "trust fund puke."

This week in Sea of Thieves, Rare has released the latest patch, which includes quick swap ranged weapons as well as the return of Reaper Chests to the Fort of the Damned. A quality of life update came with the reduction of black screens for lower-end hardware. The biggest thing right now is that Rare is looking to sell you a customizable audio setup for $20 to simulate 7.1 channel audio for the game. While it remains to be seen how good this actually is, a lot of the community is calling out Rare for trying to charge for this new feature that no one asked for. Prince Andrew's tone-deaf Instagram moment perfectly encapsulated his inability to read the room—or reality. In February 2020, the Royal Family's official Instagram account posted a cheerful birthday tribute for Andrew's 60th birthday, complete with smiling photos and warm captions. The problem? This came right in the middle of the Epstein scandal, when Andrew's name was synonymous with disgrace, denial, and alleged sexual abuse. The public reaction was instant and furious, with thousands calling it “inappropriate,” “insensitive,” and “tone-deaf.” At a time when most of the world expected humility, contrition, or silence, the royal social media team delivered a sugar-coated reminder of how out of touch the monarchy still was.The post didn't just misfire—it symbolized the broader dysfunction of Andrew's response to scandal. Rather than showing accountability, it projected the same self-serving blindness that had defined his downfall since the Newsnight interview. What should have been a quiet, private acknowledgment turned into another PR disaster that reignited anger and humiliation for the palace. In trying to pretend everything was normal, the monarchy only reminded the public how far from normal things truly were. The Instagram post wasn't just a bad look—it was a case study in how delusion and privilege can sabotage even the simplest act of communication.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITHeadlines can be loud and hollow, but the stakes underneath them are real. We start with a celebrity anniversary post that tried to be edgy and landed squarely in the wrong month, raising hard questions about timing, tone, and how public figures wield influence during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The photo looks staged, the caption tries to shock, and the audience reaction reminds us that jokes about harm don't exist in a vacuum—especially when thousands of real stories sit behind the statistic. From there, we step into a Houston tragedy involving a Porsche 911, a 0.301 BAC, cocaine, and a legal defense pointing to designer heels. The facts feel blunt, the excuses feel thin, and the outcome is irreversible. We unpack accountability and why narratives that blur responsibility only deepen public cynicism. When lifestyle and luxury collide with impaired driving and loss of life, the lesson is not about fashion—it's about choices that endanger others. We also come up for air with a look at The Diplomat: the performances, the politics, and yes, the hair that somehow became a character of its own. That detour opens a larger conversation about Hollywood's pressure to stay “ageless,” the surge in cosmetic procedures, and what it means to age on your own terms. We share a candid take on past Botox, the decision to stop, and how seeing unedited faces can reset our idea of normal. It's not about shaming any choice; it's about widening the lane for all of them.We wrap with a sweet, simple question for Halloween season—your go-to candy bar—because small joys are how we balance heavy news cycles. If you're into pop culture with substance, true accountability, and a little nostalgia, you'll feel right at home here. Meghan Markle has come under heavy criticism after posting a short video to Instagram that appeared to show her relaxing in a limousine as it passed close to the Paris tunnel where Princess Diana's fatal crash occurred in 1997.The Duchess filmed nighttime views of the city as her car drove by the Pont Alexandre III and Pont des Invalides bridges before turning the camera on herself, stretching her legs out across the back seat. Viewers soon pointed out that the route was just steps away from the Pont de l'Alma tunnel, where Diana, Princess of Wales, was fatally injured while being pursued by paparazzi.Check out "Palace Intrigue Presents: King WIlliam" here.

Was Judge Stephen Hippler Tone Deaf To The Pain Of Kohberger's Victims' Families When Judge Stephen Hippler agreed to accept Bryan Kohberger's shocking guilty plea, he made a decision that would spare Kohberger the death penalty—but at what emotional cost to the families of the victims? Attorney Eric Faddis joins the conversation to dissect Judge Hippler's controversial decision-making and address whether he failed to adequately consider the deep anguish and heartbreak expressed by the families who demanded a full trial. Throughout this episode, Faddis draws upon his extensive courtroom experience, both as a defense attorney and a former prosecutor, to explore the complexities judges face in balancing the interests of swift justice with the emotional devastation of survivors. Faddis evaluates the potential consequences of Judge Hippler's choice, including public perception of fairness, the potential for closure (or lack thereof) for grieving families, and broader implications for the criminal justice system's handling of high-profile murder cases. Listeners will hear an in-depth analysis of Judge Hippler's courtroom conduct, his statements during the plea hearing, and how they might have come across to victims' families and the broader public. Was this decision legally sound but emotionally disconnected, or did it represent a painful but necessary step toward a guaranteed conviction? Attorney Eric Faddis expertly breaks down the judge's actions and explains the nuances of sentencing decisions, giving listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the complex psychology and emotional weight inherent in capital murder cases. Prepare for an honest discussion about empathy, judicial responsibility, and whether the judge adequately honored the pain and voices of those who lost loved ones to Bryan Kohberger's horrific crimes.
