Ciara, Luxor, Aswan Egypt was life changing in every way for our Wake Tech participants. Egypt is a place of history and has the sites that you will see nowhere else in the world.
What a beautiful city in Colombia. Bogota, high in the mountains is cool, wet, beautiful and safe! Went there in June 2022 for five days and am glad I did.

My trip to Sophia Bulgaria was incredible. A very affordable, beautiful and interesting city. My trip included seeing Sophia, going to North Macedonia, taking a communist tour and just relaxing and taking in the sights.

My trip to Colorado and Wyoming was a replacement for my cancelled Equador trip due to Covid. It was certainly not a disappointment!!!!

Henton Morton has been to 23 countries, 20 cruises and is definitely a world traveler. Henton is a Senior Detective in Raleigh and has been on our Wake Tech Board of Directors for the last two years.
Kyla Sanderson, a recent graduate of UNC Charlotte in Marketing landed her dream job a month after graduation. Kyla went with Wake Tech back in 2018 to Salzburg Austria and was part of a large group. She loved the trip and made a ton of friends. Congrats Kyla!

Back in 2016, I visited a place I always wanted to see since the fall of Communism in 1989. Romania is beautiful, affordable and has a mix of the present and past. It’s a place you want to go for sure.

Cathy Rowley, our first non traditional student who joined us back in 2017 to Salzburg Austria. Cathy fit into the group just like everybody else on the trip. Cathy just returned from a March 2020 trip to South Africa! She loves to travel.

Nick Ssad, a former student of mine at Wake Tech talks about Syria, his home country. Syria has been in a civil war since 2011 and the war has forced millions of Syrian people out of their country. Nick came to the USA in 2012 and is one of the millions who had to give up his country and relocate to another country.

Justen Bethel talks Salzburg 2018, the friends he has made and what this summer trip did for him. That trip was Justen’s first flight and trip out of the country. Dr. Amin Asfari of Wake Tech discusses Islamophobia and touches on the high profile 2015 triple murder case in Chapel Hill, NC. His cousin along with his cousins wife and his cousin’s wife’s sister were murdered by a white neighbor over parking. This event sparked rallies locally, nationally and worldwide. She was a 2017 participant to Salzburg and loves travel. She is from India and loves Canada of which she has been there now 10 times. Fiaunna Shivers went with us to Eastern Europe back in 2013 and since then has traveled to Brazil, Gambia and Senegal. Fiaunna Shivers was our 2014 Wake Tech graduation commencement speaker and was one of my students early 2012-2013. She has big big plans on moving to Africa in the next couple years. Julian David loves travel and caught the travel bug big-time. Julian overall loved Austria but did experience a few examples of racism in Europe. Julian is planning on seeing the world and is currently getting his pilots license so he can see the world.
Simon is the General Manager of the company that took me into North Korea back in 2007. Simon has been to North Korea 175 times, more than any other Westerner. He organized and helped get Dennis Rodman into the country for the big basketball match back in 2014 and also leads incredible adventure tours to Far East Russian, Mongolia, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
Samantha Cinelli has now been to 20 plus countries since her 2014 trip to Qatar including Israel three times. She is a graduate of UNCW and majored in International business. Samantha talks all about how the class, the trip to Qatar shaped her future!
Kelly Rawers has been traveling since going on her first trip with us back in 2012. She has been to Western Europe, Southeast Asia, Costa Rica-Nigaragua and in 2017 CUBA!
In 2014, Wake Tech and William Peace University along with 12 students and three faculty members got to experience the world’s richest country, Qatar. We will look briefly at the country of Qatar, then we will hear from the past participants who were lucky enough to go and camel ride, participate in a desert safari, tour the Islamic museum and get to take a class at the Qatar University. I took the history of oil class!
Nick Bonner is the founder of Koryo Tours and has taken thousands of westerners into the DPRK (North Korea). Nick is also a world renown film maker and has produced award winning films on the country and including working with Michael Palin on the Michael Palin in North Korea documentary. No student has had more of an impact from Study Abroad. Anna Grace Wynekan is addicted to Europe and has been back multiple times since 2017. She has nannied and has passed on the travel bug to her dad who loves Portugal. Here her talk about how travel has shaped her future.
