Kendall unpacks the power of thinking differently, how eXp evaluates opportunities, and why looking at the true addressable market is key to future-proof business decisions. They dive deep into how eXp is "stacking the deck" by building intentional systems, fostering client-centric innovations, and leveraging AI to dominate the evolving landscape. Neuroeducation expert Tara Bonner discusses how neuroplasticity works, explaining that our brains are constantly changing in response to experiences, habits, and mental challenges.• As we age, our brains naturally experience decreased processing speed, memory challenges, and reduced cognitive flexibility• Repeated exposure and focused practice of any activity will change brain connectivity – for better or worse• Stress, trauma, and addiction can negatively rewire the brain, while novel experiences create positive neural pathways• Critical thinking abilities may be weakening due to convenience culture and passive information consumption• Social engagement, especially intergenerational connections, provides essential brain stimulation• Physical activity, proper nutrition, quality sleep, and stress management all contribute to brain health• Seeking novelty and embracing challenges keeps the brain actively creating new neural connections• The brain thrives on "effortful processing" – activities that are slightly challenging rather than automatic• Cognitive programming can target specific brain functions like critical thinking and processing speedLearn more about cognitive programming and brain fitness resources at ArrowsmithCA. How can insurers make accurate loss estimates before adjusters are on the ground, and why does it matter? In this episode, Matthew Grant speaks with Will Bonner, Chief Operating Officer at McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), about how the company uses satellite data, open-source intelligence and human expertise to deliver early insights on catastrophic events. From wildfires in California to civil unrest in the Pacific, the conversation explores how insurers are responding faster, setting more accurate reserves and navigating uncertainty in real time. The episode also highlights the practical challenges of relying on public data sources, the growing role of brokers in geospatial intelligence and how MIS transitioned from a centrally funded Lloyd's service to a solution used by 80% of syndicates. With real-world examples and lessons from other domains like defence and disaster response, this is a grounded look at what it takes to turn raw data into operational decisions. Key Talking Points: Intelligence before access – how MIS delivers building-level damage assessments before roads reopen or planes can fly From imagery to insight – why expert human analysis still outperforms automation in post-disaster response Scaling trust – what it takes to become a Lloyd's elective service for catastrophe intelligence From fires to frontlines – how MIS tracks 50,000+ buildings in wildfire zones to anticipate claims before they're filed Beyond Lloyd's – what global carriers and brokers are asking for as MIS expands into the US and beyond Stress-testing your stack – why reliance on single public datasets could leave insurers exposed in 2025 Real-time relevance – how MIS is turning horizon scanning into an actionable, insurer-led signal layer Experiment, iterate, evolve – what MIS has learned from testing edge ideas like mobile phone data and evacuation mapping If you like what you're hearing, please leave us a review on whichever platform you use or contact Matthew Grant on LinkedIn. Today on episode 503 Jess Nepstad from Bru Trek joins me on The Show. Jess's LinkedIn profile leads with 'Positively impact people every day!' You can contact me here: rick@theoutdoorbizpodcast.com What Happened: When I was a kid, the phrase “adventure ready” meant slapping a chili can into a backpack and pedaling 20 miles with your best friend and no helmet. Jess Nesad's story took me right back. He and his buddy Mark did just that—bikes, backpacks, a plan (sort of), and zero water bottles. They made it to Luckock Park, camped under the stars, hiked to waterfalls, and sipped stream water like champions. It was rugged. It was real. And today? Jess is still chasing that kind of magic—but with a serious upgrade in gear and a lot more hydration. Fast forward a few decades, and he's the founder of BruTrek, building over-engineered outdoor coffee gear that could survive a bear attack. (Okay, slight exaggeration—but seriously, this stuff is tough.) Principle: The gear you carry reflects how you show up in your adventures—and your business. Cheap tools, whether it's instant coffee or uninspired branding, leave you flat. But when your tools are built for adventure—when they're rugged, intentional, and actually designed for how you live—everything changes. Transition: Most outdoor brands talk a big game. But few are built by people who've lived it from both sides: the free-range childhood adventures and the boardroom branding meetings. If you're tired of gear that breaks, branding that feels disconnected, or a business that doesn't feel like you, there's a reason for that. That's why… That's why this episode hits different. Jess bridges the gap between old-school outdoor grit and the next-gen mindset of thoughtful design, loyal community, and brand storytelling that actually means something. This episode isn't just about coffee—it's about creating a lifestyle that works as hard as you do. Call to Action: Still sipping cowboy coffee and calling it good? You deserve better. Don't let bad gear (or bad branding) hold you back from the adventures you dream of. Listen to this episode and find out how to blend grit, growth, and a damn good cup of coffee into your brand. Are You In The Muff Market? Are You A Muff Liquor Man? Ok folks, we're going to have fun on this one. When I started the research for this episode, I wasn't sure whether the "Muff Liquor Company" name was a tongue-in-somewhere thing or a hard lean-in. Turns out it's the latter with a healthy dose of the former. It is a company based in Muff, Ireland that makes liquor, and yes they know what the name means. If you doubt it, check out their April Fool's Day post from this year...just delightfully dirty. Once you're past the name, though, you've got to have a good product for me to care, and boy do they. I'm joined by Laura Bonner, founder of Muff Liquor Company and probably the closest connection I'll ever have to Jimmy Carr and Ed Sheeran. She's made Muff Liquors of these men, joining Russell Crowe and other notable celebs as spokespeople and investors. The journey was long and hard, and nothing came easy (ok, last puns, I promise). COVID nearly put them under before they could begin. Now, they're thriving, and the US market awaits. Muff Liquor's Irish Whiskey is a delicious pour, smoked apples and gentle, sweet peat, at a ridiculously affordable price point (all of their products are $34.99 MSRP, give or take). Take a shot - see if you enjoy diving into the Muff as much as I did (ok, THAT's the last one). Thank you to Laura for entering to the Whiskey Ring!
