In this episode, Rory speaks with Arthur Bonner, producer, writer, and showrunner of The Union Development Company, about the making of Playbook Finance, an unscripted television series and the deeper mission behind the project. Arthur shares his journey from growing up in Watts to building a career in Hollywood, producing content that tells authentic, character-driven stories. Together, they explore the difference between reality television, docuseries, and unscripted storytelling, and why the most compelling stories emerge when real people are given the space to share their hopes, fears, and aspirations. The conversation also pulls back the curtain on the production process, from long shoot days and story development to editing, archival footage, and finding the emotional moments that resonate with audiences. Most importantly, they discuss why Playbook Finance is about more than money or sports. It is about family, relationships, purpose, and understanding how our beliefs about money are shaped by the people and experiences around us. Want to know what goes into creating an unscripted television series? Curious how conversations about money can open the door to deeper discussions about meaning, wellbeing, and legacy? Find out the answers to these questions and more in this behind-the-scenes conversation with Arthur Bonner.

Has Canada lost its social contract? In this episode of The LeDrew Three Minute Interview, Stephen LeDrew speaks with Dr. Michael Bonner about social decomposition, loneliness, crime, freedom, and the future of community in Canada.Bonner is the author of The Crisis of Liberalism: The Origin and Destiny of Freedom, a book that examines the philosophical and theological foundations of modern freedom and the challenges facing liberal democracy today. The book argues that a renewed understanding of freedom can help address the deeper problems facing liberal societies.LeDrew begins with the visible signs many Canadians are talking about at kitchen tables and restaurants: theft, disorder, violence, declining trust, and the feeling that society is coming apart. Bonner widens the discussion, arguing that the crisis is not only about crime, but also loneliness, isolation, and a form of freedom that leaves people atomized rather than connected. The conversation explores:Whether Canada's social contract is breaking downCrime, disorder, and declining public trustLoneliness and isolation in modern societyThe difference between freedom and atomizationWhy communities and voluntary associations matterWhether government can fix social breakdownAnd how Canadians might begin rebuilding shared civic lifeBonner argues that people naturally want to form the kinds of associations that hold society together — families, communities, churches, clubs, neighbourhoods, and civic institutions — but that elites and governments often need to get out of the way and let those bonds reform. As Canada faces rising disorder and declining trust, this interview asks whether Canadians can rebuild community before government resorts to more surveillance, control, and intervention. Liberalism is clearly on the ropes. To many, the threats originate from what they consider the outside: populism, authoritarianism, misinformation, and polarization. But to others, the wounds appear self-inflicted: arising from tensions within liberalism itself. For decades, liberal societies promised a host of goods: most notably, individual freedom. But many now look around and see loneliness and social decay. Families are breaking down and the culture is fragmenting. Institutional mistrust is on the rise amid a politics that seems unable to unite. Many of the institutions that once gave liberal societies their coherence—and, in fact, preceded them—like churches, families, local associations, stable communities and shared moral norms—are now shadows of their former selves. These issues are at the heart of Michael Bonner's new book, The Crisis of Liberalism: The Origin and Destiny of Freedom. Bonner argues that liberal societies are like orphans, who have either forgotten or do not know their parentage. They have severed the moral, philosophical and theological foundations that made their societies' account of freedom intelligible. Bonner is a historian, writer, and political adviser. He holds a doctorate from Oxford and has written widely on history, religion, politics and the modern West.

Dr Michael Bonner, political consultant with Atlas Strategic Advisors and former director of Policy within the Government of Ontario, discusses his book, The Crisis of Liberalism: The Origin and Destiny of Freedom. Bonner argues that contemporary liberalism's current crisis stems from forgetting its Christian origins and theological foundations, as well as suffering from tensions and contradictions that threaten it from within. He also examines the origins of concepts like equality and freedom, questions whether liberalism can survive increasing secularization, and explores the tension between unlimited freedom and the need for shared moral foundations in pluralistic societies like Canada. The Hub is Canada's fastest-growing independent digital news outlet.Subscribe to The Hub's podcast feed to get our best content when you are on the go:https://tinyurl.com/3a7zpd7e (Apple)https://tinyurl.com/y8akmfn7 (Spotify)Follow The Hub on X: https://x.com/thehubcanada?lang=enCREDITS:Amal Attar-Guzman - Producer and EditorSean Speer - Host Hosted on Acast. Find more on the Daily Debrief Habit Builder DebriefAdvantage.com Episode Summary Five-Step Debriefing Habit Model Jeff discussed his background in military aviation and his current work helping teams debrief to improve performance. He explained that effective debriefing requires developing a habit of regular reflection, particularly in Western cultures where self-reflection can be challenging due to vulnerability concerns. Jeff outlined a five-step habit model (G-R-E-A-T) for debriefing, starting with gratitude to create a positive mental state, followed by reviewing goals, and then evaluating performance through specific questions about what was done. Five-Step Debrief Model Presentation Jeff presented a five-step debrief model focusing on what worked and what didn't work, emphasizing the importance of recognizing both successful and unsuccessful aspects to drive continuous improvement. He explained that the model helps teams develop a championship culture by identifying successful dynamics to repeat and learning from failures to improve over time. Tyler agreed with the approach and discussed the importance of creating a collaborative environment for debriefs, particularly in sports teams where coaches often struggle with accountability and responsibility. Continuous Improvement and Visualization Jeff discussed a 5-step quick model starting with why they are glad to be present, emphasizing the importance of developing a culture of continuous improvement through consistent practice rather than perfection. He explained how fighter pilots use visualization techniques, including chair flying, to prepare mentally for missions by envisioning every aspect of the mission from start to finish. Jeff stressed that the goal is excellence rather than perfection, and that visualization helps condition the mind to see what good performance looks like. Chair Flying Debrief Strategies Jeff and Tyler discussed the concept of "chair flying" and its application beyond sports, including in personal and professional settings. They explored strategies for conducting productive debriefs, particularly when challenging conversations arise, with Jeff emphasizing the importance of starting with gratitude and self-identification of mistakes. Jeff outlined three key traits that distinguish good from bad debriefs: structure, appropriate length (five minutes), and regular, daily practice rather than only addressing failures. Combat Mission Debrief Experience Jeff shared his experience of his first combat mission in the northern Arabian Gulf during the initial ground waves into Iraq, where he provided close-air support to Marine Corps infantry units. He recalled the plane captain's words "This time it's for real" and the realization that years of training were about to be tested in a high-stakes environment. From this experience, Jeff developed his approach to helping teams debrief and improve, focusing on addressing the question of "what if I'm not good enough" in high-performance environments. Debriefing Process and Reflection Jeff discussed the importance of reflection and adjustment in debriefing processes, emphasizing that experience alone doesn't lead to improvement without these steps. When asked about advice for his teenage self, Jeff suggested focusing on the idea that "it's all gonna work out" and recommended reading "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey.

This Easter—2026—multiple Catholic parishes across the nation saw a surge in adult baptisms and new converts entering the church. Some dioceses reported all-time records for people becoming Catholic at Easter. This trend parallels a broader trend of renewed interest in religion, especially with young people. Protestant and nondenominational churches have also had an influx of younger converts. According to a study from Barna Group, which tracks data on faith in U.S. culture, younger adults—Gen Z and Millennials—have become the most regular churchgoers, outpacing older generations. While some are calling this a religious revival, the reality is that attracting young people to church doesn't necessarily, automatically translate into offering them a reason to stay for the long term. If young people are showing up for church because they are looking for something—are they finding what it was they were looking for? On this episode of Glad You Asked, the hosts talked to three guests from different backgrounds and Christian affiliations about what young people want from the church. Catalina Morales Bahena is Director of Learning at Faith in Action; Drew Stever is a chaplain, spiritual director, and ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America; and Baird Linke is an activist who currently serves as pastor of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Bonner, Montana. For nearly three decades, Jonah Goldberg has rightly abused Canada for its many crimes: its adoption of the metric system, slanderous contentions about bacon, and dubious claim to Machias Seal Island, to name a few. Recent events have put Jonah in a more conciliatory mood, however, and he has resolved to bring more of our northern neighbors on the show. Today's token Canadian, Michael R.J. Bonner, joins The Remnant to talk about his recent book on liberalism. Michael and Jonah run the gamut, talking about Steven Pinkerism, liberalism's virgin birth, Cold War liberalism, the Rawlsian turn, postliberal criticisms, subsidiarity, modern progressivism, John Stuart Mill, the religion of humanity, left-wing violence, third worldism, Justin Trudeau's lack of self-understanding, and the war in Iran.
