What do you do when a quiet deer hunt in Alabama turns into a face-to-face encounter with something massive… and not quite human? In this chilling episode, we talk with Mark “Plowboy” Green, a lifelong outdoorsman from the Foothills of Alabama, whose 2007 hunting trip near the Alabama River led to a moment that changed his life forever. From the swamps of Lowndes County to the eerie hills of “Creepy Mountain,” Mark recounts vivid sightings, inexplicable nighttime howls, and the moment he looked through his rifle scope and realized—he wasn't looking at a man.We explore secretive tracks, peanut butter gifts gone missing, and eerie encounters near Hollins Hunters Camp — where some say a man died from a heart attack, but others whisper about something much worse. This episode isn't just a retelling — it's an unraveling. You'll hear stories of glowing eyes in the woods, T-Rex-like roars, and the moment Mark realized the boogers might be visiting his own backyard. If you've ever wondered what's really moving out there in the southern woods — don't miss this one.Resources:Mark's Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@CedarCreekBottomsFarmsteadLifeWood Walkerz Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@woodwalkerzAlabama Bigfoot Website (no longer active but archived here): https://web.archive.org/web/20181202085405/http://www.alabamabigfoot.com/

When a well-dressed man approached a Los Angeles junior high school in 1927 asking for his coworker Perry Parker's daughter, the woman at the front desk should have immediately sensed something was off. Parker didn't have one daughter at the school; he had two. When the man clarified he wanted the "younger" Parker girl, that should have struck the office marm as odder still because the girls were twins. Still, Mary Holt summoned 12-year-old Marion Parker to leave school grounds -- a deadly decision that would soon haunt her and the rest of the nation. War leaves scars not only on people but also on the land. In Ukraine, vast fields are littered with explosive remnants, threatening the future of farming. Tiphaine Lucas, a Programme Coordinator for FAO's Mine Action and Land Rehabilitation Initiative, is on a mission to collect and analyze soil samples, ensuring the land can once again grow wheat and sustain communities. Watch how science and resilience are helping Ukraine rebuild. Financing challenges are at the heart of the current sustainable development crisis. The International Commission of Experts on Financing for Development, a group of experts on Financing for Development, will launch its report on pathways to resolve this crisis on Tuesday, 11 February 2025, at 1:15 p.m. (EST). The launch will take place on the sideline of the 3rd Preparatory Committee Session of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), which will take place at UN Headquarters from 10 to 14 February 2025.  The report provides innovative ideas and fresh perspectives critical to shaping the future of financing for development, putting forward proposals for concrete actions across a range of areas, including debt restructuring and strengthening the global safety net.   The International Commission of Experts on Financing for Development comprises 14 distinguished experts, including Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Laureate and Professor at Columbia University. Chaired by Professor José Antonio Ocampo, the Commission has developed a comprehensive set of recommendations to support all stakeholders involved in the substantive preparations and negotiations of the outcome document for the upcoming Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, Spain.   The Commission was set up by the Spanish Government, in support of its commitment to advancing the Financing for Development (FfD) process and welcomed by the UN Secretary-General.  The Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov today (10 Feb) told the Security Council that the “volatile situation in the Syrian Arab Republic is of great concern, especially as there is a risk that stockpiles of advanced weapons could fall into the hands of terrorists.” Briefing the Council on the threat posed by Da'esh to international peace and security, Voronkov noted that the Syrian Badia region “continued to serve as a centre for Da'esh external operational planning and a critical region for their activities.” He also expressed concern over the situation in detention camps and other facilities in the north-east of the country. On Afghanistan, Voronkov said ISIL- Khorasan “has continued to pose a significant threat in Afghanistan, the region and beyond,” as supporters have “plotted attacks in Europe and were actively seeking to recruit individuals from Central Asian States.” He stressed that no State can confront terrorism in isolation, and noted that Member States “must prioritize comprehensive, long-term responses that address the conditions conducive to terrorism while strengthening the rule of law and upholding international human and humanitarian rights.” Also, addressing the Security Council on the twentieth report of the Secretary-General on the threat posed by Da'esh to international peace and security, Natalia Gherman, the Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate, highlighted the UN's efforts to support Member States in addressing the challenges. Gherman said, “the challenges posed by Da'esh remain complex, with humanitarian, security, and governance concerns persisting across regions affected by its activities.” She said, “after devastating so many parts of the world for more than a decade, Da'esh and other terrorist groups now pose the most significant threat to peace, security and sustainable development across the African continent.” For her part, United States Ambassador Dorothy Shea said, “countering ISIS and other terrorist groups around the world is a top priority for the Trump Administration. President Trump has already taken decisive action in conjunction with the Somali government by directing precision airstrikes against ISIS in Somalia on February 1st. President Trump's message is clear: The United States always stands ready to find and eliminate terrorists who threaten the United States and our allies.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/policy-and-rights--3339563/support.

“I think there is not a devil left in hell, they have all gone into the peasants… smite, stab and slay all”.  Following on from Martin Luther's dramatic abduction by his powerful protector, Frederick III, he had been secretly kept safe at Wartburg. There, he abandoned his priestly garments for good, and violently wrestled against the devil, in unorthodox ways…Meanwhile, the religious revolution that he had ignited was sweeping through Europe, and setting everything aflame. A sense of apocalyptic flux saw waves of destructive violence unleashed upon all the old customs and idols, as rebellions erupted throughout Christendom. Luther's reformation had taken on a terrifying new form of zealotry, which saw him transformed from radical to reactionary. His determination to destroy the new reformers enraged and infuriated many of his old followers. None more so than Andreas Karlstadt - the former chancellor of Wittenberg university against whom Luther unleashed a savage smear campaign - and Thomas Müntzer; an apocalyptic prophet who sought to discredit Luther's reputation. Then, in May 1524, there exploded an uprising in Germany that would change everything, as militant evangelical peasants came up against their Catholic overlords. A religious war had broken out at last… Join Tom and Dominic as they discuss the radical turn of Luther's religious revolution and his efforts to quash it, the groundbreaking Peasants' War, his unexpected marriage, and the colossal legacy of Luther's ideas, and the Reformation. *The Rest Is History LIVE in 2024* Tom and Dominic are back onstage this summer, at Hampton Court Palace in London!  Buy your tickets here: therestishistory.com Twitter: @TheRestHistory @holland_tom @dcsandbrook Producer: Theo Young-Smith Assistant Producer: Tabby Syrett Executive Producers: Jack Davenport + Tony Pastor Learn more about your ad choices. The body of critical study - and fan adoration - around the music of Napalm Death has concerned itself principally with the band's pioneering grindcore and its transition into the death metal of Harmony Corruption. But what of the band's wilderness years, the mid- to late-1990s? The 108th episode of Radical Research digs into what its hosts consider to be Napalm Death's most radical music, the four-album futurist blitzkrieg spanning the years 1994-1998. Get ready for some serious side-eye, Legions, as we cross over into the torn apart.   Note I: In the episode, Hunter mentions Ian Christe's writing on the band's 1994 album, Fear, Emptiness, Despair. In Christe's Sound of the Beast, he writes that the album, "...started a fresh chapter in the history of a band whose membership half-life had once lasted no longer than an album side. Previous urban hardcore noise blasts were mowed by sophisticated guitar layering and innovative drum patterns. Their dissonance became a conscious component of the composition, not merely a side benefit of chaos, and the marriage of intense anger and calculation yielded a masterpiece of passionate, politically minded, negative realism." Note II: In an act of gall, the scalar dimensions of which could only be compared to the Pacific Ocean, Mont Blanc, and John Holmes' ballistic member, Christe includes Fear, Emptiness, Despair in his list of the 25 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums of All Time. The list includes other controversial entries, such as Morbid Angel's Formulas Fatal to the Flesh, and Dream Death's rarely-trumpeted but mighty Journey Into Mystery. Note III: In our excitement, we failed to mention the men who produced these albums. All were produced by the estimable Colin Richardson, except Fear, Emptiness, Despair, which was handled by Pete Coleman. Only one of these gentlemen have played flute on a Skyclad album. When Uncle Gregg found some direction and joined the Navy. When teenage Brett co-founded his first band, Empty Glass. And when our special guest, power pop legend Jamie Hoover was caught in a flurry of activity, releasing his debut solo album Coupons, Questions And Comments and prepping for The Spongetones' 1991 third full length, Oh Yeah! Formed in 1979 and very much influenced by the British Invasion, Charlotte, North Carolina's The Spongetones carried on the musical genre through acclaimed original songwriting, jangle pop riffs, and lilting, Beatlesque vocals. In his 2007 authoritative book Shake Some Action, John M. Icelandic Streets Torn Apart by Earthquakes & a Potential Eruption Looms

As I mentioned in the previous episode, residents of Grindavík have been evacuated. Scientists have been anticipating a potential eruption but no lava has come up to the surface as of right now. However, that doesn‘t mean damage has not been done. The tens of thousands of earthquakes in Grindavik have resulted in major cracks in the earth opening up. There are literal holes in the streets where a whole car could fall in. Damage to buildings and parts of the town is extensive and it will take a lot of construction to restore the area. The restoration efforts can only happen once it is clear that an eruption will not happen and no one knows when that will be clear. Magma is still being detected close to under the surface beneath the town. The Blue Lagoon Remains Closed Due to the situation, the Blue Lagoon has announced it will remain closed until November 30th. There is no knowing if it will for sure open by November 30th but we shall see. One thing that is happening is the construction of lava barriers to around Svartstengi power station and the Blue Lagoon to protect them in the event of a volcanic eruption. The barriers are estimated to be 20-26 feet high (6-8 meters) and will take a little over a month to complete. Protecting the power station is important because it provides hot water to all of the Reykjanes Peninsula. Over 2,000 Workers Impacted by the Evacuation In addition to the thousands of people who can‘t access their homes, over 2,000 workers and around 200 companies operate in this area. They have no idea when they will be allowed to be back to work or even the area. Retreiving Valuable Items & Rescuing Pets in Grindavik Residents of Grindavik were allowed to access their homes to gather as much as they can within a 5-minute window. I know that sounds incredibly short. It is possible they had a little more time than that but is the time limit posted via news sources. Residents had to leave their homes late at night and for many that meant they were forced to leave their pets behind. Dýrfinna, the search and rescue group for animals,  has been working on rescuing pets left behind. As of right now, they rescued 100s of animals but 12 of them are still unaccounted for. Most of the unaccounted for animals are cats who are used to roaming aorund free outside. Tax Hike to Fund Reconstruction An excerpt from a news article on Iceland Reveiw about the Icelandic Government's vote to fund the wall around the Blue Lagoon and power station. The lava barriers will be financed by levying an additional tax on property owners in Iceland equivalent to 0.08% of their property's fire insurance valuation (brunabótamat). The owner of a property worth ISK 100 million [$695,000, €650,000] will therefore pay an additional ISK 8,000 [$56, €52]. The tax will be levied for a period of three years, though it bears noting that similar taxes imposed in "Iceland have later become permanent. Pirate Party MP Þórhildur Sunna Ævarsdóttir and Centre Party Chairman Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson argued that any lava barriers constructed should be paid for with existing tax revenue. Some locals have argued that the privately-owned Svartsengi Power Plant and Blue Lagoon, which have made significant profits in recent years, should partake in financing the barriers." Iceland Review Tweet Donate to Red Crosses Relief Efforts in Grindavik Donate to the Icelandic Red Cross‘s emergency fundraising campaign to support the response to the current situation in Grindavik. https://www.raudikrossinn.is/english/donate/donate-now/ Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me and others asking if we are ok. It is only the people in Grindavik that have been evacuated. The airport and all other parts of the Reykjanes Peninsula are operating as usual. Will let you know if that changes. Like thousands of families, they were broken apart under the Trump administration's family separation policy. Eventually, Magdalena was deported to her home country of Guatemala, while her daughters were assigned to a foster home in the United States. In 2021, the Biden administration's pledge to reunite separated families gave Magdalena new hope. But there were further complications for the family. How does the interplay of medical institutions, Child Protective Services, and desperate parents lead to tragic consequences? A recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast with host Tony Brueski and guest psychotherapist and author, Shavaun Scott, delved deep into this pressing issue, offering some haunting insights that are hard to ignore.    "We often hear stories of children not being served well by CPS. However, this situation is the exact opposite. It's where they went full throttle, isolating the child from their mother without a justified cause," shared Tony Brueski. The case in question concerns a mother, a registered nurse by profession, who was accused of Munchausen by proxy (factitious disorder imposed on another) and subsequently denied any contact with her child by the hospital.    While Munchausen by proxy is a real and alarming concern for medical institutions, Shavaun Scott emphasizes its rarity. She states, "I see it in clients and it happens in hospitals. But there had to be red flags." Scott mentioned the mother's insistence on high doses of ketamine infusion for her child, which is indeed concerning. But she also pointed out that the family had a record of treatment from other reputable hospitals. The situation should have been approached with more consideration and empathy, rather than isolating the child.    "The ideal scenario would have seen the hospital and parents coming together as a team, especially if there were signs of potential child abuse," Shavaun said. Instead, the scenario spiraled into what Brueski termed a "nightmare of a case." The relationship between the hospital and the family became so strained that it resulted in the mother's tragic suicide during the 90 days her child was kept away from her.    Brueski raised poignant questions: "Why did it take so long for everyone to get on the same page? Why did the doctors not consider the comprehensive care records?" One of the significant highlights of the discussion was the emphasis on a parent's desperation. Any parent watching their child suffer immense pain would likely resort to any means necessary to alleviate their child's suffering, even if it means clashing with medical professionals.    The conversation revealed that there was a breaking point where the case evolved into an apparent "adversarial power struggle" between the family and one specific doctor at the hospital. Brueski remarked, "At that juncture, there should have been an intervention, perhaps a change in the medical personnel in charge. Instead, both parties became more entrenched in their positions, leading to dire consequences."    Is the healthcare system designed to serve its patients, or has it become a battleground where egos supersede empathy? This recent podcast episode of "Hidden Killers" underlines the need for a comprehensive review of how medical institutions interact with families, especially when Child Protective Services get involved. The outcome of this case serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of miscommunication, mistrust, and a lack of collaboration.    As we continue to navigate an era where medical expertise is both revered and challenged, the poignant question remains: Can medical institutions and families truly find common ground in the best interest of the child? The Battle of the Kowalskis: A Family Torn Apart

In the vibrant heart of Florida, the Kowalski family led a seemingly normal life. With strong Polish roots and deep familial bonds, the Kowalskis were pillars of their community. Yet, in 2016, they found themselves ensnared in a whirlwind of medical and legal battles that would challenge the very core of their unity and resilience.    The Onset of a Mysterious Malady    When Maya Kowalski, a spirited 9-year-old with a penchant for painting and playing the violin, began experiencing debilitating symptoms ranging from agonizing headaches to painful lesions on her limbs, alarm bells rang. No parent is prepared to see their child suffer, and Jack and Beata Kowalski were no exception. Desperate for answers, they navigated the complex web of the healthcare system, consulting numerous physicians and specialists.    Self-advocacy and a Daunting Diagnosis    It was Beata, a registered nurse with an astute sense of observation, who stumbled upon the possibility of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) while researching Maya's symptoms. This rare disorder, characterized by chronic pain and often triggered by an injury, was later confirmed by Dr. Anthony Kirkpatrick, a renowned specialist in the field.    Seeking relief for Maya, the family even embarked on a perilous journey to Mexico to pursue an experimental treatment, the "ketamine coma," hoping it would offer their daughter some respite. Their endeavors seemed successful; Maya returned with a renewed zest for life. But this was just the calm before the storm.    A Fateful Hospital Admission    Less than a year after their return, a severe bout of stomach pain led Maya to be admitted to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Armed with her medical history, her parents insisted on high doses of ketamine to manage Maya's pain, an approach supported by Dr. Kirkpatrick.    However, this admission set off a cascade of events that none could have foreseen. The hospital staff, rather than viewing the Kowalskis as concerned parents, eyed them with suspicion. The narrative shifted dramatically: Beata was accused of Munchausen by proxy, a condition where caregivers feign or induce illness in those they care for, seeking attention or sympathy.    The Legal Nightmare    With accusations flying, Maya was placed in state custody, barred from seeing her family. The trauma was immeasurable. Beata, painted as a villain by the hospital, faced public scrutiny, and emotional and psychological torment. Stripped of her maternal rights and bearing the weight of false accusations, she faced a battle on all fronts: the fight to prove her innocence, the yearning to reunite with her child, and the trauma of public defamation.    Tragically, the weight became too much for Beata, leading her to take her own life, believing that her sacrifice might expedite Maya's return to her family.    The Road to Vindication    The aftermath of this tragedy saw the Kowalski family's fight gaining momentum. With the formidable Gregory Anderson of AndersonGlenn LLP by their side, they embarked on a mission to clear their name and bring the hospital to account.    The ensuing legal battle revealed unsettling patterns, with Dr. Sally Smith, a senior child services physician, often at the center of numerous controversial child removal cases. The documentary, shedding light on the Kowalskis' ordeal, further bolstered their cause, unveiling other similar cases, indicating systemic flaws.    Conclusion   The Kowalski saga serves as a cautionary tale of the intricate interplay between the medical and legal systems. It underscores the importance of understanding, compassion, and due diligence in professions that wield the power to shape or shatter lives. As the Kowalskis continue their journey toward healing, their story stands as a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the enduring bonds of family. The war in Ukraine has forever changed the young students of one kindergarten classroom, who are now scattered all around the world. For the past year, NPR's Elissa Nadworny has been following a group of six-year-olds from the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. After the city came under attack by Russian forces, the children's school abruptly closed and many families fled. In this episode of The Sunday Story from Up First, Nadworny helps us understand the ripple effects of war through the eyes of children who lost the world they knew.
