Since you guys can't get enough of the Black-eyed-kid stories we did some digging and found one posted in various places on the internet from Raleigh, North Carolina that took place in 2012. We hope you enjoy this story.Kerrie Kisner hadn't intended to stop at the Triangle Town Center mall on her way home from Wake Tech Community College near Raleigh, North Carolina, but she did. She wished she hadn't. “There were very few people there that day and I found it strangely eerie how quiet it was,” Kisner, 20, said. “While walking back to my car I rounded a corner and saw an older lady and a young boy. He immediately caught my attention because he was so odd looking, I had never seen anyone like him.” The boy, about twelve years old, seemed average at first, but as Kisner watched him talk with the woman, he seemed anything but average. The boy's black hair contrasted sharply with his pale skin; dark patches hung under his eyes. “It looked like he hadn't slept in weeks,” Kisner said. “He had a very thin face.”As Kisner walked closer to the pair, she heard their conversation. In a quiet, but strong voice, the boy asked the woman for help. “He stood very rigid with his hands by his sides looking at the ground as she fished around in her purse for something to give to him,” Kisner said. “As I got closer I noticed he seemed to get more and more uncomfortable.”The boy began to shift his body when Kisner passed them on her way to her car, then he lifted his head and made eye contact with her. “I froze. His eyes were black as night, very dull, almost dead,” Kisner said. “The look he gave me has haunted me. The feeling I got from him was as though he wasn't all there, almost ghostly.”Eyes locked on Kisner's, the boy turned slowly and, not waiting for the older woman to give him what she dug for in her purse, simply walked away. Kisner doesn't know who, or what the boy was, but this memory will stick with her forever. “Ever since then the look he gave me has haunted me,” she said. “Almost like he knew what I had been thinking.”Who doesn't get the chills from these stories? We hope to find more like this in the future. If you have a creepy story you'd like to see featured you can email us at webmaster@spookyappalchia.com. Hosted on Acast. Perhaps the weightiest topic there is is the one that we all must face: death. Much of our lives can be spent evading this reality until it comes crashing into our lives somehow. What might it look like to adopt a posture towards death that not only makes us more prepared, but helps us live life more abundantly? To engage this question, we welcome Dana Trent! Dana Trent is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and professor of World Religions and Critical Thinking at Wake Tech Community College. An ordained Baptist minister, Dana served as a hospital chaplain in what is known as the “death ward,” where she accompanied individuals and their families through the passage from life to death. Inspired by this experience, as well as the death of her mother, she authored the book “Dessert First: Preparing for Death While Savoring Life,” where she reflects on this experience and her lessons from it. In her conversation with Chris and Eddie, Dana discusses how churches and individuals can engage the topic of death and grief in a more meaningful way, especially with the backdrop of a deadly pandemic. She also helps us consider how “humor and tears are not mutually exclusive” and how even in the midst of grief and death, joy and levity can be found.RESOURCES: Dana Trent's Book “Dessert First: Preparing for Death While Savoring Life”https://www.amazon.com/Dessert-First-Preparing-Death-Savoring/dp/0827206690Listen to other episodes:  https://www.theweightpodcast.comThe Weight on Instagram:  @theweight_podThe Weight on Facebook:  @theweightpodThe Weight on Twitter:  @theweight_podDana Trent on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaB690iTPH2896cywwyh3JgDana Trent on Instagram:  @jdanatrentDana Trent on Twitter:  @jdanatrentDana Trent on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/jdanatrent.author/Dana Trent on the web:  https://jdanatrent.com/

On March 6, 2019, WRAL TechWire held its first TechWire Live event of 2019. Wells Fargo sponsors the event series, and this was the first of four subject matters scheduled for 2019. The content centered around leadership and the itinerary divided the night into two sessions. The first session took a macro look at how effective leaders move the ball forward in their communities. The second session took a micro look at how to make the most significant impact within each person’s own organization.    James Amato, the Strategy and Business Development manager of WRAL TechWire, hosted the event to a packed house. The crowd at WRAL-TV’s historic Studio A was comprised of community leaders, CEO’s, serial entrepreneurs, and industry thought leaders. The audience gathered to discuss ways to realize their leadership potential in an increasingly divisive environment fully.    This episode of Tech on Tap is an edited recording from the second-panel discussion of the night featuring Katie Gailes, of Wake Tech Community College, as the moderator. Gailes titled her panel discussion: Leadership in the new era, the high tech blessing, and the high tech curse. With that title as the road map, Gailes was joined by Gary Greene and Chris Weatherly, of Greene Resources and WRAL digital solutions respectively.    Greene Resources is a high profile recruiting firm that seeks to help companies locate and land high caliber talent. Gary Greene leads Greene Resources as founder and CEO and spoke on his view of leadership and how he engages his employees for long term partnership and mutual benefit. "Leadership is not a position. Leadership is action," Greene said in response to the definition of leadership.    WRAL Digital Solutions is an Emmy award-winning subsidiary of Capitol Broadcasting Company and operates to provide effective marketing solutions for local and national brands. Chris Weatherly leads his growing team as the Director of Digital Sales and Operations. Weatherly spoke on how to help leaders get their message across in an ever-evolving technological environment.    Both men spoke on how to identify and develop leaders within your organization and took audience questions on how to respond to the changing workforce.    Listen to the recording of the first panel, featuring Jesica Averhart (Leadership Triangle), Brenda Berg (Best NC), and Eric Boduch (Pendo).    https://www.wraltechwire.com/2019/03/19/tech-on-tap-techwire-live-leadership-in-review/    Listen to Tech on Tap and look out for the announcement of the next TechWire live event, sponsored by TechWire partner, Well Fargo.

It is about holding space to listen for the still, small voice of God. Meditation has physiological benefits, including the body's ability to calm itself. Things to Think About What can you do to create space to breathe and listen for God? Spiritual Practices Discussed in this Episode Breath Meditation Loving Kindness Meditation Links and Resources: J. "It's that one day a week that shapes the remaining six..."—J. Dana Trent Episode 67 of Spirituality for Ordinary People features an interview with J. Dana Trent.  J. Dana Trent is a graduate of Duke Divinity School and professor of World Religions and Critical Thinking at Wake Tech Community College. An ordained Baptist minister and former hospital chaplain, her work has appeared on Time.com, and in Religion News Service, Sojourners, Religion Dispatches, and The Christian Century. Key Learnings Sabbath is not ordinary time. Sabbath is about stepping out of paying the bills, doing errands, shopping, etc. and stepping into meaning-making, being closer to God, connecting to community. Sabbath is a privilege. It is no longer a right in American/Canadian culture  God takes time away from creating to be in awe of the creation. When we take time to be in awe of creation a few things happen: we rest, we become more worshipful, we connect with community. There is a tradition of the visit of the Sabbath Queen visiting your house when you keep sabbath well. Could this be a powerful image of royalty visiting your house. What would that be like? "The community that rests together is the community that resists together."—Barbara Brown Taylor The three barriers in the way of Sabbath keeping are: the ego, not being humble, and not trusting. Children are great at Sabbath keeping! Sabbath has a way of revealing what your real life is. Sabbath can be a time for taking stock, for introspection, for asking questions about your life. Things to Think About How can the Sabbath be the priority that you work towards? And how can you allow the Sabbath day to shape the other six days? How can you better prepare for Sabbath or better keep the boundaries of Sabbath? In what way can you start small to practice Sabbath? (e.g. an afternoon, an hour, a meal with friends, etc.) If you are a clergy person how can you model Sabbath for your congregation? Spiritual Practices Discussed in this Episode Sabbath (Obviously!)
