    Ivy Insights

The Magnum podcast is an absolute gem for fans of the hit 80s show, "Magnum P.I." As a devoted listener, I can't express how grateful I am to have stumbled upon this podcast thanks to someone mentioning it in the annual clip show of another favorite podcast, Incomparable. It's a testament to the hosts' talent and entertainment value that they were able to capture my attention and keep me coming back for more. Love, Skeletor.

One of the best aspects of The Magnum podcast is how filmic and TV-ic (not a word, I know) literate the hosts are. Their deep understanding and knowledge of the medium shine through as they dissect each episode with a combination of love and a critical eye that can only come from adulthood. They don't shy away from acknowledging the bonkers nature of the show, but at the same time, they maintain a special place in their hearts for Magnum and his gang. This balance between affectionate nostalgia and insightful analysis makes for an engaging and enjoyable listening experience.

Furthermore, the hosts' sense of humor is top-notch. They find humor in both the intentional jokes within the show and its overall absurdity. This ability to laugh at themselves adds an extra layer of entertainment to their discussions. Even if you weren't old enough to watch Magnum when it first aired, like myself, this podcast provides a fun way to experience it vicariously through witty friends who appreciate its charms.

While it's hard to find any major flaws with The Magnum podcast, one possible downside is that it may not cater to those who haven't seen or aren't interested in watching Magnum P.I. Since it primarily focuses on recapping episodes and discussing various aspects of the show, listeners who aren't familiar with or invested in Magnum may not find as much value in this podcast compared to others that cover more varied topics.

In conclusion, The Magnum podcast fills a much-needed gap for fans of the beloved 80s show. The hosts' affectionate yet critical analysis, combined with their humor and filmic knowledge, makes for a delightful listening experience. Whether you're a longtime fan of Magnum P.I. or someone discovering it for the first time, this podcast is a must-listen for anyone who wants to reminisce or explore the world of Thomas Magnum and his adventures in paradise.

In this teaser episode we also read a letter, discuss swearing, Jason brings up some recent news, and it’s basically our usual nonsense. We’ll be back later this year with a full season! For an episode that we didn’t like, we try to find positive things where we can. And we muse about how introducing Michelle in season 2 might have pulled the rug out from under all of Magnum’s future romance ambitions.
