Clerks III (2022)Director: Kevin SmithCast: Brian O'Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Jason Mewes, Kevin SmithKevin Smith had a heart attack, rewrote his legacy, and somehow made a movie that retroactively makes us like his older films less. This week on Dewey Pod Monster, we close out "April and the Threequel" by finally confronting the most threatened episode in show history: Clerks III. We've been dreading this one for four years. It was worse than we remembered. In this episode, we discuss:The Nostalgia Cash-In That Went Too Far — Clerks III is essentially Kevin Smith remaking his own movie while reselling a heart attack story you've already heard on his podcast and live tour. We've paid for this content before.Comedy That Forgot to Be Funny — The film swings for emotional drama without earning it, leaving beloved characters stranded in a tone that doesn't fit them. It's neither funny enough to work as a comedy nor written well enough to land as a drama. The Rosario Dawson Problem — She was one of the best things about Clerks II, and here she's reduced to a ghost who tells her grieving husband she's sleeping with celebrities in heaven. It's a baffling choice that retroactively damages the previous film's ending.Who the Hell Is This Movie For? — Too recycled for longtime fans and too niche for newcomers, Clerks III only seems to work if you watched it live with Kevin Smith in the room. At home on your couch, it just doesn't work.We Also Talked About:WrestleMania 42 (ESPN) (2026) — Both hosts tuned in out of habit and left empty. Over-commercialization, ads during wrestler entrances, a CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns main event that nobody asked for, and a streaming situation so fragmented neither host could even find where to watch it.Louis Theroux Documentaries (Dailymotion) — Sean went deep into Theroux's hour-long doc series including Extreme Love (dementia and caregiving), a trans kids episode, and Heroin Town USA — a gutting look at opiate addiction in a small Virginia town from the mid-2010s.Cop Game (Tubi) (1988) — Directed by Bruno Mattei under the alias Bob Hunter, this Filipino-shot Vietnam War action film stars Brent Huff and features miniature toy cars in chase scenes, two songs on a loop, and an ending so abrupt it barely qualifies as one. Sean watched it. He has regrets. He's still going to watch more Bruno Mattei films.Hellmare Trailer (Youtube)— John got an early look at this upcoming horror film from local filmmaker Victor Gabriel (of Blood Gorge and Cruel), and he's genuinely excited. Meta horror elements, great visuals, real craft on display. A small premiere is coming — watch this space.Movie Theater Massacre (Tubi) (2023) — Shot at the historic Redford Theater in Redford, Michigan, this COVID-era local slasher features a butter knife as a murder weapon and a Linnea Quigley cameo. It's not great. It exists.Scanner Cop 2 (Youtube) (1995)— John watched it. His dog was audibly disturbed by the psychic screaming noises. Kane Hodder is in it. Robert Forster is in it and deserved better. The highlight is a villain who threatens to "kill you so bad."New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. We're proud members of the YouRun Podcast Network.

Welcome to the second Off the Record of 2026! This time, Stewart, Rastislav and Ken have an assortment of films and shows with timely topics.Stewart brings us his feature review of 2025's Oscar nominee Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. He was pleasantly surprised by this film's conspiracy angle, involving aliens and the mass death of bees. Emma Stone as a “suit” is victimized by Jesse Plemons and Aiden Delbis, playing brothers who raise bees off the grid and believe that Stone's company is bringing aliens to earth and consequently poisoning their bees.Ken follows with a look at 2009's US immigration drama Crossing Over, directed by Wayne Kramer. Harrison Ford, Cliff Curtis, Ashley Judd and Ray Liotta are some of the actors. Ken felt there were some story problems, but one sequence in a convenience store and a thoughtful examination of the immigration process help counter this.Rasto then leads us to The Path, a 2016 Hulu series created by Jessica Goldberg. Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan and Hugh Dancy are the leads in this cult-themed drama; Rasto found Dancy's performance worthy of particular praise. He enjoyed the examination of how different cults or sects operate and attract followers.Starting into the lesser picks, Stewart shines (moon)light on 2020's The Wolf of Snow Hollow, written and directed by its star Jim Cummings. Robert Forster, Riki Lindhome and Chloe East also star. Stewart doesn't think this werewolf-themed comedy/drama is worth howling over, but appreciated the practical effects and unexpected creation of suspense during the daytime.Ken's lesser pick is another Oscar nominee and also immigration-themed, 2025's One Battle After Another directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, Chase Infiniti and Sean Penn. Ken felt that Anderson's quirky style didn't mesh well with the examination of immigration and white supremacists; however he did enjoy the action and some of the performances.Rastislav second cult-themed entry is unfortunately disappointing; the 2025 Netflix miniseries Wayward, created by Mae Martin and starring Martin alongside Toni Collette. Rastislav didn't feel this Toronto-area set drama was as substantive in its examination of cult activity as The Path was, choosing instead to focus on topics that have already been looked at in better films. We go back to the well with more shameless genre movie franchises to recap: We present to you our favorite moments in The Subsitute movies! TALKING POINTS: *Is this the most shameless Death Wish knock-off with Commando type villains? *Why did Treat Williams never become as big as other character actors like Danny Trejo & Robert Forster? *Does Ernie Hudson almost one-up Alan Rickman as a fun villain actor? *Is Lionsgate the only studio who can figure out OTT franchises with dark comedy in them (i.e. John Wick, Wishmaster, The Dentist)? *Do these films have the best library set fight scenes? *Would you see Eric Roberts or Dolph Lundgren star in another sequel to this saga? *We also talk about our other favorite high and low-brow teacher subgenre movies! GUESTS: Johnny Potoky, Gil Palmer, Tom Lindaman & Mike Ensing
"Song Writers On The Run" Perhaps best known as one of the co-founding members of the late great Australian band The Go-Betweens, singer/songwriter Robert Forster has been putting out critically acclaimed solo albums since his 1990 debut Danger In The Past. His new novel Song Writers On The Run has just been released to rave reviews and he talks about the writing process in this chat. As for his music, over the years he added to his solo discography titles like Calling From A Country Phone and I Had A New York Girlfriend, and now the Brisbane-born Forster is checking in with his ninth solo effort Strawberries. The follow-up to 2023's rousing and affecting The Candle And The Flame, Strawberries is startlingly beautiful and emotionally precise. Produced by Peter Moren of Peter Bjorn and John, the eight numbers on Strawberries range from the jangling album opener "Tell It Back To Me" to the stirring blues of "Good To Cry." Elsewhere, the seven minute "Breakfast On The Train" is not only a great song, it also doubles as a great short story; the title track is a brilliant and simple study of the gobbling of strawberries as a metaphor for domestic bliss and the album closing "Diamonds" quite literally reaches new vocal heights for Mr. Forster. This is one of the best albums you'll hear--it's satisfyingly precise, unreasonably melodic and filled with observational wisdom, meditative self-analysis and quietly unforgettable character studies. This is a great chat--I love talking to Robert and I hope you dig listening. www.robertforster.net (www.robertforster.net) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (www.alexgreenbooks.com) www.bombshellradio.com (www.bombshellradio.com) Stereo Embers Bluesky + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

When evil terrorists have hijacked a passenger plane flying through Europe filled with mostly Americans and they're headed towards Beirut...who are you gonna call? The Delta Force! Yup smack in the middle of a now legendary run of B-Grade genre films (Missing In Action, Breakin', Cobra), Cannon Films decided to make a statement with this star-studded political action thriller starring Chuck Norris (The Way of the Dragon, Code of Silence, Walker Texas Ranger) and the late, great Lee Marvin (Cat Ballou, The Dirty Dozen) who lead this titular elite squad of warriors to the rescue. Not only that but one half of the Israeli producing duo which ran Cannon - Menahem Golan (Over the Top, Enter the Ninja, The Apple) - actually decided to direct it himself. ;) When first released amidst a true glut of military-themed action films in '86, this was only a middling success but since then, it has garned a devoted cult following thanks to it likely overqualifed cast filled with former Oscar-winners (Marvin, Martin Balsam, George Kennedy, Shelly Winters) and an EXTREMELY catchy theme song created by Alan Silvestri! Well that and we get to see Norris' McCoy dispatch bad guys with missiles from his motorcycle....Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon Send us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

The Munsons shift gears from one of Hollywood's biggest stars to one of its most grounded character actors—Robert Forster. After Kyle recounts a run-in with Thomas McKenzie (and maybe the Bird Lady, Brenda Fricker?), we dive into Forster's remarkable and often overlooked career. The box office spreadsheet shows a stark contrast from Harrison Ford—going from first to nearly last—but Forster's story is anything but small. Entering Hollywood completely naive, he built a career on perseverance, a little luck (as he himself admitted), and an unshakable authenticity. We unpack the tragic and surreal story of his mother's self-immolation, his complete comfort with full frontal nudity on screen (respect), and his uncanny ability to ground films—whether they were good, bad, or somewhere in between. Was he one of the few actors who could have brought Max Cherry to life in Jackie Brown? The Munsons think so. Along the way, we discuss his repeated turns as law enforcement officials, debate whether “perfectly cromulent” defines his acting style, and reflect on his late-career roles before his passing from a brain tumor in 2019. This episode celebrates a man who may not have been a box office titan, but was the quiet engine behind some truly great films. Where does Robert Forster rank on the Munson Meter? Listen and find out.
On this week's show, it's a good ole fashioned, double-Chuckin'. First, 1986's Lone Wolf McQuade starring Chuck Norris, Lee Marvin, and Robert Forster, and then 1985's Invasion U.S.A. starring Chuck Norris and Richard Lynch. Be sure to let us know what you think of the movie, and the podcast. Thanks and enjoy! ADAMSNERDS.COM
“This gun says you live, this gun says you die.” Join Ian & Liam for our 295th episode as we step into Tarantino's world of money drops, double-crosses, and smooth soul soundtracks with Jackie Brown (1997). Kev? He's running a cash pickup at the mall but got distracted by an Orange Julius. Megs? She's busy cutting a deal with Ordell Robbie that may or may not involve a new handbag. But don't worry—we're not flying solo. We're joined by BFF of the BFE: Shai Bergerfroind, who slipped us a cassette tape of Delfonics tunes and insisted this was the Tarantino film to talk about. This week we discuss: How Jackie Brown might be Tarantino's most mature film—and why it doesn't get the same love as Pulp Fiction. Pam Grier's powerhouse performance: is this one of the greatest star comebacks in cinema history? Robert De Niro as the quietest ex-con ever—and how a single scene changes everything. Samuel L. Jackson's Ordell: terrifying or hilarious, or both at once? Is this the most “realistic” Tarantino film? And does that make it better or just slower? Ian and Liam debate whether this film is about survival, romance, or just getting by. Shai drops in to explain why the soundtrack is the real star of the film (and why he's been humming Delfonics all week). Which scenes had us holding our breath—and which ones could've been trimmed. Why Max Cherry might be Tarantino's most underrated character—and how Robert Forster's quiet dignity steals the show. And finally, whether Jackie Brown is the Best Film Ever—or just the coolest hangout movie you forgot you loved. Become a Patron of this podcast and support the BFE at https://www.patreon.com/BFE. "The Song Forlorn" Perhaps best known as the Peter portion of the Swedish outfit Peter Bjorn and John, Peter Morén and his band have put out close to ten albums of catchy indie rock that's yielded worldwide hits like "Young Folks," tours around the globe, international television ads and TV and movie placements in everything from Gossip Girl to Bandslam. Raised in the Swedish countryside, Morén grew up listening to Ride, Depeche Mode, The Housemartins and the Stone Roses and his sonorous and melodic body of work reflects his love of well-crafted pop songs. With four fabulous solo albums under his belt, a side project with members of The Shout Out Louds and The Concretes and handling producer duties for Robert Forster's wonderful new album Strawberries, Morén is a busy guy. And I'm leaving things out, I'm sure. But what I'm not leaving out is his second album under the moniker SunYears. The follow up to the dazzling Come Fetch My Soul, The Song Forlorn is a stirring and rousing song-cycle filled with wistful pop, affecting ballads, fuzzed out psych jams and rootsy instrumentals. Featuring guests like Lisa Hannigan, Sam Genders, Nicole Atkins, and Madison Cunningham, The Song Forlorn is an album that's filled with tremendous stylistic range. There's touches of Aztec Camera and Prefab Sprout, Beatle-esque jangle and spare indie folk. It's percussive, melodic and magical work. https://www.roughtrade.com/en-us/product/sunyears/the-song-forlorn IG: @sunyearssongs www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers IG + Bluesky: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

We welcome the esteemed critic, journalist, and podcaster Jourdain Searles to the show to discuss Quentin Tarantino's seminal third feature Jackie Brown, an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel Rum Punch that also serves as Tarantino's love letter to Blaxploitation cinema and one of its defining stars, Pam Grier. We begin with a discussion of Blaxploitation cinema, Pam Grier's status within the genre, and how Tarantino navigates the fine line between homage and aesthetic fetishism. Then, we unpack the film's taught, thoughtfully structured script that manages to pack the customary twists and reversals of a Leonard adaptation without skimping on the romance and hangout vibes that underly Tarantino's most accomplished work. Finally, we pull back to discuss Tarantino today and whether we can successfully decouple the director's artistry from his support for Israel. Follow Jourdain Searles on Twitter. Lets shine some light on Jackie Brown—a Quentin Tarantino gem that might not be the most talked-about in his filmography, but definitely deserves a spot in the conversation. As part of our Summer of Sam playlist, we couldn't skip this excellent Sam Jackson performance.Jackie Brown brings together a fantastic and unexpected mix of actors—Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Bridget Fonda, Robert De Niro, Michael Keaton—and it's rare to see this ensemble sharing the screen anywhere else. The movie's cool, deliberate vibe is paired with a killer soundtrack that's pure Tarantino style. It's a crime story with heart, slick dialogue, and characters you actually care about.Join us as we dive into why Jackie Brown stands out, even among Tarantino's heavy hitters, and why it's a must-watch for fans of great casts, sharp writing, and, of course, Sam Jackson at his finest.Stick around for round of trivia at the end of the episode!Safe travels, muthafuckas!
On this episode of Drive-In Double Feature, Nathan and Ryan dive into the murky depths of Alligator (1980), the killer creature feature that made everyone second-guess flushing their toilet. Directed by Lewis Teague and written by John Sayles, this smart and satirical B-movie gem turns urban legend into urban menace with a giant, mutated gator terrorizing the city. The hosts discuss the film's mix of social commentary, practical effects, and Robert Forster's charmingly self-aware performance. Is Alligator just a Jaws ripoff, or is it something more? Grab your flashlight and waders—we're going sewer spelunking!

Australia has been blessed with some of the greatest songwriters of all time. On their Mount Rushmore has to be Robert Forster and Grant McLennan of the Go-Betweens. What started out as spikey post-punk, eventually morphed into some of the most lush and perfect pop music ever made. If you don't believe me, listen to 1988's immaculate 16 Lovers Lane for proof. Not feeling they'd gained a big enough audience, the guys parted ways for a while until reforming in 2000 and keeping it going until Grant's death in 2006. Robert's solo work is also excellent and he's releasing a great new album, Strawberries, this week. We discuss how he writes such amazing story songs, his influences, the uniqoe story behind the new album and a ton more. He's one of the best there's ever been and we're lucky to have him. www.robertforster.net www.patreon.com/c/thehustlepod
"Strawberries" Perhaps best known as one of the co-founding members of the late great Australian band The Go-Betweens, singer/songwriter Robert Forster has been putting out critically acclaimed solo albums since his 1990 debut Danger In The Past. Over the years he added to his solo discography titles like Calling From A Country Phone and I Had A New York Girlfriend, and now the Brisbane-born Forster is checking in with his ninth solo effort Strawberries. This is a great chat--I love talking to Robert and I hope you dig listening. www.robertforster.net (http://www.robertforster.net) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) Stereo Embers Bluesky + IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

The new Snow White movie is awful for many reasons but the choice to use CGI dwarves is the worst. Jay remembers the Chuck Norris film "The Delta Force" where the Arabic terrorist was just a poorly spray-tanned Robert Forster. Everyone has a good laugh at the ridiculous ending of the movie. Bob and Jay debate about their Farrah Abraham interview. They conduct an investigation as to whether her turd hit the floor or the toilet in her scat video. The crew gangs up against Jay because he denies that he's an expert in poop porn. Adapted from Elmore Leonard's novel Rum Punch, this crime thriller showcases Tarantino's signature style but with a more mature and restrained approach compared to Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.Setting the Scene: A Game of SurvivalPam Grier stars as Jackie Brown, a flight attendant caught smuggling money for arms dealer Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). When she's busted by the ATF, she finds herself caught between law enforcement and Ordell, who won't hesitate to eliminate loose ends. With the help of bail bondsman Max Cherry (Robert Forster), Jackie hatches a plan to outmanoeuvre both sides and secure her own future. Why It Stands OutPam Grier's Iconic Performance – A true 70s blaxploitation star, Grier delivers a powerhouse performance that cements Jackie Brown as one of Tarantino's best-written characters.Samuel L. Jackson as Ordell Robbie – Charismatic, chilling, and endlessly quotable, Jackson's villain is both funny and terrifying.Robert Forster's Career Revival – As the world-weary Max Cherry, Forster brings a grounded, heartfelt presence that earned him an Oscar nomination.A Different Tarantino – While still packed with sharp dialogue and memorable characters, Jackie Brown leans more into slow-burn tension and character depth rather than hyper-stylized violence.Elmore Leonard's Influence – The film stays true to the novel's sharp plotting and richly drawn characters, making for a crime thriller with real emotional weight.Themes: Trust, Betrayal, and Second ChancesUnlike Tarantino's usual revenge-driven stories, Jackie Brown is about survival and reinvention. Jackie isn't looking for payback—she's trying to carve out a better life for herself in a world stacked against her. The film explores aging, regret, and loyalty, particularly in Jackie's dynamic with Max Cherry, whose quiet admiration adds an unexpected layer of romance.A Dad's TakeJackie Brown is a must-watch for fans of Tarantino, crime thrillers, and smartly written characters. While it may not have the explosive action of his other films, it offers something even better—a masterfully crafted, character-driven story with a killer soundtrack and one of the coolest leading ladies in cinema. So, grab a beer, settle in, and join us as we unpack one of Tarantino's finest films on Bad Dads Film Review!
Artist. Poet. Friend. This week, we celebrate the music, life, and legacy of Leonard Cohen with someone who knew him well - Perla Batalla. Grammy-nominated Singer/songwriter Perla Batalla first came to prominence as a backing singer for Leonard Cohen during his 1988 I'm Your Man tour and on the 1992 album The Future, in the process forging a deep friendship. With Cohen's encouragement, Perla stepped out as an artist in her own right, releasing a beautifully diverse range of magnificent albums such as Mestiza and Discoteca Batalla, performing at the world's best venues, co-writing and appearing in two one-woman shows, honored by UN and Focus on the Masters. But she has always kept the words and works of Leonard Cohen close to her heart. Her latest album, A Letter to Leonard Cohen: Tribute to a Friend, is her second album of her unique interpretations of Cohen's music, following 2005's Bird on the Wire. It was released the day before what would have been his 90th birthday. Leonard Norman Cohen was born in Quebec on September 21, 1934. Spending the latter part of the ‘50s and first half of the ‘60s as a published poet and author, he shifted his focus to songwriting. From 1967 to 1971, he established himself as a major musical talent with the trilogy of classic albums Songs of Leonard Cohen, Songs from a Room, and Songs of Love and Hate, as well as interpretations by the likes of Judy Collins, Nina Simone, Joe Cocker, and Roberta Flack. He would continue to record and tour sporadically throughout the ‘70s and early ‘80s to widespread acclaim and with some commercial success in Europe. In the late ‘80s & early ‘90s, Cohen gained a new underground audience through his two synth-driven productions, I'm Your Man and The Future, prominent soundtrack placements, a beloved album of interpretations by Jennifer Warnes, Famous Blue Raincoat, and the 1991 high profile tribute album, I'm Your Fan, where a who's who of alternative music disciples like REM, Ian McCulloch, Pixies, James, The House of Love, Robert Forster, Nick Cave, and John Cale paid their respects to the man. The latter artist, John Cale, performed a breathtaking piano version of a song from 1984's Various Positions called “Hallelujah,” in an arrangement that would be borrowed and transcribed to guitar by Jeff Buckley a few years later, which further elevated Leonard Cohen's already mythical status. After spending the latter half of the ‘90s in a monastery as an ordained Buddhist monk, Leonard Cohen returned in the twenty first century to finish what he started, adding six additional studio albums to his catalogue, including the album released weeks before his November 7, 2016 death, You Want It Darker, and the posthumous followup completed by his son Adam, 2019's Thanks For The Dance, as well as multiple live albums, both archival and contemporary. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On January 15, the entertainment world lost a truly unique and highly influential talent….David Lynch (Blue Velvet, The Elephant Man, Twin Peaks) who passed away at the age of 78 from emphysema. Over his illustrious career, he directed twelve feature films and was nominated for four Oscars including Best Director for this acclaimed classic released in the fall of 2001. Considered by many fans and critics to be Lynch's best film, this mind-bending mystery has since garnered a devoted following from cinephiles who have enjoyed developing and sharing theories regarding its complex plot. The overall story mainly focuses on two women, one an amnesiac nick-named Rita (Laura Harring) and the other an aspiring actress named Betty (Naomi Watts) who is new to town. The town is Hollywood, where dreams of fame and fortune sometimes come true....though more often they lead to bad things. :o And as these two ladies develop a relationship.....well as most other Lynch stories go, let's just say that they get pretty strange. Also included among the stellar cast are Justin Theroux, Jeanne Bates, Robert Forster, Brent Briscoe, Patrick Fischler, Dan Hedaya, and Billy Ray Cyrus. (Yes you read that right.) Rest in Peace Mr. Lynch….your legacy will live on WELL beyond your time on this earth.
