From the World of John Wick....this is techically a spin-off which takes place between the events of John Wick Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, the focus here is on Eve who is played by Ana De Armas.  Eve is an assassin who was initially trainied as as a ballerina, hence the title!  The Director of her "academy" is Angelica Huston who was also featured as a character in Chapter 3.  Eve is seeking revenge against a rival organization which murdered her father when she was a young child - that organization is lead by The Chancellor played by Gabriel Byrne.  And off she goes from New York City throughout Northern Europe on an increasingly violent adventure where she is tasked with defeating rival assassins through a variety of methods including her fists, grenades, flame throwers, knives, and dishes. ;) Along the way, she also encounters the "Baba Yaga" himself, John Wick once again played by Keanu Reeves.  Ken Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard, Underworld) directs with a supporting cast also including Ian McShane, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, and in sadly his final on-screen appearance, the late great Lance Reddick. Host & Editor: Geoff GershonEditor: Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a texthttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

fWotD Episode 2855: John Wick (film) Welcome to Featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia’s finest articles. The featured article for Thursday, 27 February 2025 is John Wick (film).John Wick is a 2014 American action thriller film directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. Keanu Reeves stars as John Wick, a legendary hitman who comes out of retirement to seek revenge against the men who killed his dog, a final gift from his recently deceased wife. The film also stars Michael Nyqvist, Alfie Allen, Adrianne Palicki, Bridget Moynahan, Dean Winters, Ian McShane, John Leguizamo, and Willem Dafoe.Kolstad's script drew on his interest in action, revenge, and neo noir films. The producer Basil Iwanyk purchased the rights as his first independent film production. Reeves, whose career was declining, liked the script and recommended that the experienced stunt choreographers Stahelski and David Leitch direct the action scenes; Stahelski and Leitch successfully lobbied to co-direct the project. Principal photography began in October 2013, on a $20–$30 million budget, and concluded that December. Stahelski and Leitch focused on long, highly choreographed single takes to convey action, eschewing the rapid cuts and closeup shots of contemporary action films.Iwanyk struggled to secure theatrical distributors because industry executives were dismissive of an action film by first-time directors, and Reeves's recent films had financially underperformed. Lionsgate Films purchased the distribution rights to the film two months before its release date on October 24, 2014. Following a successful marketing campaign that changed its perception from disposable entertainment to a prestige event helmed by an affable leading actor, John Wick exceeded box-office projections and became a modest success, grossing $86 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews for its style and its action sequences. Critics hailed John Wick as a comeback for Reeves, in a role that played to his acting strengths. The film's mythology of a criminal underworld with rituals and rules was praised as its most distinctive and interesting feature.John Wick began a successful franchise which includes three sequels (John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017), John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)), the prequel television series The Continental (2023), and the spin-off film Ballerina (2025), as well as video games and comic books. It is seen as having revitalized the action genre and popularized long single takes with choreographed, detailed action. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:56 UTC on Thursday, 27 February 2025.For the full current version of the article, see John Wick (film) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Stephen.

Geri Jewell shares her trailblazing career as the first actress with cerebral palsy to break into mainstream television. From her early stand-up days at The Comedy Store to her iconic roles on The Facts of Life and HBO's Deadwood, Geri reflects on the challenges and triumphs of her journey. She opens up about her influential friendship with Carol Burnett, the unforgettable moment she was cast by Norman Lear, and the humorous yet impactful experiences that shaped her career. Her stories offer a mix of inspiration, humor, and behind-the-scenes insights into breaking barriers in Hollywood.   Episode Highlights: Comedy Roots: Geri recounts her journey into stand-up comedy, starting at the famous Comedy Store in 1978. From her struggles with early performances to becoming the first comedian with cerebral palsy to appear on national television, Geri's resilience shines through. Her candid reflection on bombing her second week at the Comedy Store—and what she learned from it—provides both humor and wisdom. Carol Burnett's Influence: One of the highlights of Geri's youth was becoming pen pals with her idol, Carol Burnett. Carol's words of encouragement inspired Geri to pursue her dreams in show business, despite the societal expectations placed on her due to her disability. Geri shares heartwarming memories of Carol's support and how it fueled her ambition. Meeting Norman Lear: A pivotal moment in Geri's career came when Norman Lear spotted her performance and immediately cast her as Cousin Geri on The Facts of Life. Geri recounts the whirlwind experience of joining the cast, humanizing the snobby Blair Warner, and the impact of being one of the first actresses with a visible disability on a major TV show. Decapitating Big Bird: In one of the funniest moments of the episode, Geri shares a story about her guest appearance on Sesame Street, where an unexpected accident involving roller skates and Big Bird left children screaming! Geri's retelling of how she managed to “decapitate” Big Bird during a live taping is guaranteed to leave you laughing. From Stand-Up to Deadwood: Geri takes us through her transition from sitcoms to the gritty world of HBO's Deadwood. A chance encounter with David Milch in a pharmacy led to her role as Jewel, a character created specifically for her. Geri's reflections on working with Ian McShane and the unique challenges of performing in such a raw, historical setting are captivating. New Book – Geri's Gems and Jewels: Geri discusses the inspiration behind her new book, a collection of essays and stories drawn from her life and career. The book combines humor and poignant reflections, with a special foreword from her dear friend, Norman Lear.   Filled with laugh-out-loud moments, touching memories, and incredible career insights, this episode is a masterclass in resilience, humor, and the power of breaking barriers.   You're going to love my conversation with Geri Jewell Geri's Website IMDB Get an autographed book   Follow Jeff Dwoskin (host): Jeff Dwoskin on Twitter The Jeff Dwoskin Show podcast on Twitter Podcast website Podcast on Instagram Join my mailing list Subscribe to my Youtube channel (watch Crossing the Streams!) Reel Britannia podcast - a very British podcast about very British movies...with just a hint of professionalism. Scott and Steven are joined this week by their dear friend Mark, host of The Good, The Bad and The Odd podcast, to discuss an overlooked movie from 1972 starring Oliver Reed, Edward Woodward, Ian McShane, Frank Finlay, Freddie Jones and Jill St John. Revenge, car chases, prison escapes...what more you could ask for?   Sitting Target (1972) A killer has one more victim on his hit list – his faithless wife! Oliver Reed snarls and seethes his way through a brute-force 70's crime thriller in the tradition of Get Carter. Douglas Hickox, who would go on to helm such memorable films as Theatre of Blood and Zulu Dawn, brings his filmmaking intensity to a story of revenge set in a London as bleak and brooding as the prison from which convicted killer Harry Lomart (Reed) and his fellow inmate (Ian McShane) escape. Once free, Harry sets out to exterminate his seductive wife (Jill St. John), who carries another man's child. Armed with a handgun, fueled by rage, Harry draws closer to his sitting target. Also closing in: a police inspector (Edward Woodward), who's determined to protect the hunted woman.  Reed and McShane – one grim, one voluble, and both steeped in violence -- make an intimidating tough-guy team.   "Bastard must be made out of concrete!"
