Join me for an indepth conversation on breathwork as a modality for healing and growth with mentor and friend, Claire Ollila. Claire is a world class trauma informed breathwork mentor, certified by Owaken Breathwork, and Claire works with high performing women to help them access their peace and power. In today's episode we'll discuss: The difference between mindset work and somatic practices like breathwork Breathwork as a tool for feeling stored emotions and learning how to self regulate Breathwork as a tool for clarity and insights from your inner wisdom The importance of integration and how to take your "ahas" from breathwork into day to day life
The topic of outsourcing your healing feels timely, as I believe that the way we view our growth and our ability to heal (emotionally, physically, spiritually) shapes how we view our experiences and what we believe we're capable of achieving in the new year. As I've shifted this past year into the belief that I am capable of healing from past emotional wounds and patterns, and as I've been able to experience real-life changes, I've found that I'm less likely to think that any one person/modality/tool is going to be the magical solution that fixes it all. Healing can come in many forms - taking a pause before reacting from a space of fear, having difficult conversations and setting boundaries, or choosing to fill your life with things that nourish you instead of those that feel familiar but leave you feeling empty. This episode expands on this topic and is a little recap of where I've been when I took a break from running I Am Well Community in 2022 and 2023. I hope this podcast offers you the opportunity to reflect on your own growth and changes you made in 2023, I included some journaling prompts at the end of the episode to support you.
Welcome back to Season 3 of the Mindful Mornings podcast! After a long break, I've decided to come back to share this episode I recorded with Maggie Saunders, back in 2021. We talk about how to embrace all your emotions - especially the more difficult ones like anger, grief, jealousy, and sadness. In this episode, we dive into how to make space for difficult emotions, why somatic practices allow us to move through difficult emotions more quickly, and the power of having people in your life who embrace all of you. In October of 2019 I spent a whole month in Bali...meditating. In order to achieve my 500hr meditation training I spent a month long studying and practicing meditation, including observing three and a half days of silence, meditating for a total of 24 hours over those three days. What developed was a lot of deep insights about myself, so I decided upon returning home to share my thoughts in the hopes that some of the messages I received might resonate with others.
In this episode I talk about a question that's been on my mind lately, "what would be most nourishing to YOU?" It sounds like a simple question, but it made me realize that with my old habits of people pleasing and co-dependency I often forget to check in with myself and see what would would make me feel well. To some it might come naturally, but to me I often think about what would be best for the other people in my life - coworkers, clients, boyfriend, family, before I even think about what I would like. Changing this habit has been a process, but this question I was asked opened up a window for me to see that sometimes it's as simple as checking in with yourself.
