Dr Alex Iantaffi talks with Tristan Katz about conscious marketing, social justice, and how to navigate the intersection of personal integrity and professional practices. They explore the complexities of marketing in the so-called “wellness space”, the importance of engaging in critical thinking, the responsibilities that come with online visibility, and the role of social media in shaping cultural narratives.  Tristan Katz (they/he) is a business consultant, conscious marketing strategist, and equity-inclusion facilitator with a lifelong commitment to human rights and justice. Tristan supports individuals and organizations in aligning their values with their messaging through an intersectional, anti-oppression lens. Tristan's work centers authenticity, relationship, and accessibility, and they've collaborated with authors, educators, and cultural leaders as well as organizations like Stanford University, HubSpot, Portland Public Schools, and Port of Portland. Currently, Tristan serves as COO and Director of Programming at Fruition Growth Network. He is also a longtime yoga student, Yoga Journal game-changer (2021), and former board member of Accessible Yoga. Coming up on this episode of Flirtations, we welcome Heidi Friedman to the show, author of the book Love Lessons: 104 Dates and the Stories That Led Me to True Love. After her divorce and stepping into life as a single parent, Heidi woke up one morning shortly after her fortieth birthday with a realization: she wasn't sure she'd ever experienced romantic love.  So, she set out on a journey — one that would take her on 104 dates, and we're going to hear about some of those experiences today. We'll talk about dating after divorce, dating as a single parent, and what it means to find love.  We explore the fears, the logistics, the judgment, and the hope — and how even after the loss of a previous life, love can still surprise you. Because dating in your 40s isn't about starting over — it's about beginning again. Which is kind of the same thing, but you get it! Alright Flirties, let's do this, and meet Heidi! Coming up on this episode of Flirtations, we're talking on of the most universal experiences we all share — loneliness. Joining us is Dr. James Ellis, a psychologist known online as @lonelinessdoctor, whose work explores how loneliness shapes our lives — and what it takes to find connection again. We talk about why meeting people can feel so hard in today, the visible and invisible barriers that keep us from reaching out, and how micro connections - those tiny, everyday exchanges - can actually rewire our sense of belonging. We also explore how external validation ties into our self-worth, and how the search for connection can sometimes become a search for ourselves — because who we are often reveals itself through what we do, how we show up, and how we let others see us. How we connect with our world. This episode is about more than just loneliness — it's about rediscovering the art of connection, one moment, one breath, one flirt at a time. Let's do this Flirties, and meet Dr. Ellis! Dr. Clayton is a clinical psychologist, speaker, and author of the brand-new book Fawning: Why the Need to Please Makes Us Lose Ourselves and How to Find Our Way Back. If you've ever found yourself people-pleasing, over-accommodating, or twisting into knots to keep the peace in dating and relationships, this episode is for you.  Fawning is known as the ‘fourth trauma response'—alongside fight, flight, and freeze—and it's one that often flies under the radar. It can look like kindness or care, but at its core, it's a survival strategy that leads to self-abandonment. In this conversation, we'll unpack what fawning really is, how it shows up in dating and relationships, the cost of constantly prioritizing others and—most importantly—how to begin the healing journey so you can show up in dating without losing yourself. Along the way, we'll also get into how fawning is different from people pleasing and masking, what happens in the body during a trauma, and strategies for reclaiming the self. About Amy:Although I'm best known as a yoga therapist for my books and teachings on Yoga and mental health, Yoga for Depression (Harmony Books), Yoga Skills for Therapists (W.W. Norton), and my new card deck Yoga for Your Mood (Sounds True), my passion, ever since I picked up a pencil in the second grade, was to write a book with a character like Nancy Drew who could transport me to a world beyond my suburban bedroom. I grew up in Pittsburgh before it was green and beautiful. Like the darkened riverfront lit by the coal fires of J & L Steel, my world view was bleak. I read to find a brighter place in other worlds, and I wanted to write books that could meet that bleakness and transcend it. In pursuit of that desire, I returned to school, earning the Master of Fine Arts in literary fiction from Bennington College Writing Seminars in 2000.My short fiction and poetry appeared in numerous literary journals. I received the Allen Tate Memorial Award for the Short Story and was a finalist for the William Faulkner Award for the Novel and for the Heekin Group Foundation Fellowship for the novel-in-progress. I also received Second Place, in the Writer's Digest Writing Competition for Literary Fiction.I began my love affair with yoga in the late 1980's, after a successful career in television broadcasting that garnered the documentaries I wrote and produced national and regional awards but did not alleviate my chronic depression. When I started practicing yoga daily, with supervision, I was able to titrate off medication and find joy in the world once again. As my practice deepened, I wrote for magazines like Yoga Journal and Yoga International and wrote the first feature article about yoga and depression called “Yoga the Natural Prozac”, which appeared on the cover of Yoga Journal in 1999. My own recovery led me to research and write books on yoga and mental health, and I became passionate about sharing what had helped me heal with others who suffered. In 2004, I founded the LifeForce Yoga® Healing Institute, which continues to train yoga teachers and health care providers in yoga practices appropriate in clinical and yoga therapy settings. I'm happy that the evidence-based yoga protocol for managing mood I developed is in use in health care settings throughout the world. This protocol is featured on audio-visual products, including the LifeForce Yoga series, an award-winning library of evidence-based yoga and meditation CDs and DVDs for mood management.I love yoga and continue to teach workshops and trainings, but a book by my dear yogi brother and friend Stephen Cope called The Great Work of Your Life, set me on a course to reclaim my dharma. I returned to writing fiction in 2016, and though I have written several other novels, TEMPLE DANCER is the first to be published.Amy's WebsiteSupport the show

Vanessa is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a sought-after speaker, co-host of the hit podcast Cheaper Than Therapy, and author of the new book The Motherhood Myth. Her work shines a light on how generational trauma, societal expectations, and personal experiences shape the ways we show up in relationships. We'll get into the origins of codependence and the different ways it shows up, and how we can identify patterns of control, validation-seeking, and over-functioning (hi people pleasing!),  and move toward interdependence, self-trust, and authentic connection.  In our conversation, we explore how codependency is rooted in a fear and can feel as gripping as addiction. You'll hear about the link between attachment styles and codependent behaviors, as we break down the difference between healthy attachment vs. emotional dependence, sharing tools you can use to build relationships that feel supportive - without losing yourself. So, whether you've dated from this place of feeling responsible for everyone else's emotions, or found it hard to let go of someone even though you knew they weren't good for you, this episode offers both clarity and a path toward healing.
