Coming up on this episode of Flirtations, we're diving into a topic that I know many of you wonder about, but don't always say out loud: friend crushes. You know the feeling—when someone who started out as “just a friend” suddenly makes your heart race, or when you catch yourself asking: could we be more? To explore this fascinating—and sometimes complicated—dynamic, we're joined by human connection enthusiast and host of the Socially Delightful podcast, Jewel Hohman. Together, we'll explore everything from how to tell if a friend might like you back, to the best way to ask them out without making things weird. We'll also get into some perhaps trickier questions—what if they don't feel the same, what if people gossip, what if it stirs jealousy in your friend group, or what happens if the relationship ends? But that's not all! We'll also look at platonic friend crushes (cuz those exist, too!), the role of vulnerability, the power of connection, why we should all be flirting a little bit more, and how we can do just that. So if you've ever had a friend crush—or maybe you're in the middle of one right now—this episode is for you. Let's do this Flirties, and meet Jewel! Wellness expert and Ayurvedic practitioner Heather Grzych explores the idea that Ayurveda—far from being just a traditional health system—is actually a powerful tool for ushering in the next evolution of human consciousness. Broadcasting from the heart of the tech-saturated San Francisco Bay Area, Heather reflects on the concept of superconsciousness and why we may need inner technologies more than artificial ones to thrive in the future. Drawing parallels to Paul Atreides in Dune, she reveals how rhythm, breath, intuition, and ancient Ayurvedic practices could be essential for awakening our deeper intelligence in an increasingly fast-paced and destabilized world. Heather Grzych, ADLC is an American author and expert in Ayurvedic medicine who was formerly the president of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and the head of product development for a multi-billion-dollar health insurance company. She also serves part of the faculty at Mount Madonna Institute College of Ayurveda. Wellness expert and author Heather Grzych explores the pervasive influence of the negativity bias - the psychological tendency to focus more on what's wrong than what's right - and how it can disrupt our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Drawing from both spiritual and Ayurvedic wisdom, she unpacks how this mental habit creates emotional and physical impacts and blocks the subtle channels of the mind, leading to imbalances in the doshas and depletion of vitality. Heather shares practical tools for shifting out of this feedback loop. She reminds us that healing is not about perfection but about letting go - of criticism, shame, and old stories - so we can return to wholeness. Coming up on this episode of Flirtations, we're talking limerence, longing, and connection with our guest, Amanda McCracken, a journalist, speaker, and host of the insightful The Longing Lab podcast and author of the forthcoming book, When Longing Becomes Your Lover. Inside the episode, we breakdown limerence and the limerence cycle, and how this intense and often obsessive infatuation we may develop for someone ultimately keeps us from developing the connections and relationships we desire. We'll also explore the neuroscience behind limerence and how our brains are wired to desire what we don't have, and why this longing can become a comforting distraction. But that's not all, you all came through with questions and we've got answers, like how to break the limerence cycle? What if I just can't get over someone? I have a crush, how can I not go into limerence? What are some strategies for obsessive thoughts? What role does social media and the dating apps play in all of this? As we begin to wrap up the conversation, Amanda shares her decision to wait until 41 to have sex, which garnered national attention and sparked conversations about intimacy, self-worth, and the societal narratives that shape our romantic lives. Alright flirties, let's prepare to examine our desires and the stories we tell ourselves about love. Time to meet Amanda!
