It's absolutely wild to me that I've been creating content for four years - and honestly, it's been a blast. There's so much that I've learned, from figuring out myself properly and all the experimenting that came with it, to eventually rebranding across different avenues to just be the best I could be. It's honestly something I look back at with a smile - there's so many times I could've just stopped along the way, and as I tell y'all, I'm incredibly glad to have kept on going. I have no way of knowing what this next year brings as far as content creation goes, but I assure you that I'm looking forward to it with the biggest smile I can, and it's entirely thanks to you. So thank you for allowing me to be me, and I hope I can keep seeing you in the stars for a long time to come. It'll soon be 8 years since the passing of my Dad, and that realization alone is crazy to consider, but I wanted to take an opportunity to talk with all the Dads out there to give thanks this Father's Day 2024. In today's episode, I recount a lot of the better stories of my Dad; how he helped shape me into the man that I am today, and how despite him being gone for as long as he has, I still find him influencing things within my daily life to this day. We'll further go on to talk about some of the life lessons, AKA Plumes of Wisdom from the Dad Man, he imparted on me, in hopes that you'll be able to recount some of your own. That said, are there any stories that stand out to you about your Dad? Is he still around, and have you been able to talk with him lately? Maybe this can be your reminder to reach out to your old man and give thanks for everything he's done in your life!Send your questions, comments, and requests for Plumes' Pearls of Wisdom over to PlumesCast@gmail.com, or find Seth on other social medias such as BlueSky, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Twitch, and more as PhantasmaPlumes! Doomscrolling, and social media addiction as a whole, is a relatively new field of behavioral science that personally, still is lacking in appropriate studies. There's certainly a lot to be learned from the World Wide Web; I mean, you're most likely listening to this thanks to an Internet connection. Though, if you're finding this via a CD in the bargain bin of a Walmart - let me know because that's pretty cool. Shady podcast listening practices aside, today's podcast deals a lot with improper scrolling - how the attempt to find that one juicy bit of information and our willingness to put up with poor quality posts to find it may actually be attributing to our bad habits and what we can do to start changing that around. We'll talk about taking note of how much time we spend on social media, then how to make an actionable goal to limit that time to something we can be more proud of. Then, we'll talk about how to curate your feed for the better, the importance of fact-checking before reposting, and the most important piece of all: how to take a proper break. We'll then circle around and talk about how to use that newly limited time to drive engagement and make your social media efforts more worth the limited time you provide them. Rap with me for a second here: You're tired as all else, and decide that you're going to take a 30 minute nap before jumping onto the next big project you've got in mind. You lay down, close your eyes, and the next thing you know, it's already 4 in the morning and you've got work in two hours. That sound relatable? That's how my May went. Though, within that knockout, I'm proud to say that I've had my fair share of adventures too, adventures of which I'm super excited to share with y'all on oncoming episodes of PlumesCast. Truly, I didn't anticipate May playing out the way that it did, but I'm thankful for the rest, and more importantly, I'm ready to get back to y'all and have a great time doing it. We've talked a lot of about goal setting this year on PlumesCast, from setting reasonable resolutions to keeping yourself motivated through all the hard times - but in conversations I've had a over this past week, I realized that there was a letter missing from our SMART acronym - an S, for Selfish. Now, I'm not referring to selfishness in a terrible light; in fact, it's incredibly healthy to take time for oneself to improve and invest upon themselves to grow as a person. But instead, I want you to be more selfish in your goals; instead of saying, "I want to save money," say "I want to save money because I want a new SteamDeck!" Today, I walk you through three examples of how to be more selfish in your goal setting, how it'll help you stick with your goals better, and most importantly, how starting seemingly selfish goals can help you towards achieving better ones.Send your questions, comments, and requests for Plumes' Pearls of Wisdom over to PlumesCast@gmail.com, or find Seth on other social medias such as BlueSky, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Twitch, and more as PhantasmaPlumes! There's an old saying that comes to mind - "Do as I say, not as I do." While some people consider it one of the worst sayings, telling others to stop perpetuating bad habits while continuing on them yourself, I think it brings an amazing opener to honest reflection. It's less an avoidance of bad behavior, but more "I know I'm not doing the best right now, and I can certainly be doing better, but I hope this will help you avoid living the same way I have." As such, I hope you'll keep that saying in mind as I do my own deep dive into my past month being away from the wondrous world of Live Streaming. Where I've succeeded, where I've fallen, and more importantly, where I want to go from here - and I hope you'll be able to use my conversation with both myself and you to have a similar one with yourself. It's easy to feel stuck in these busy days of 2024; people are working harder than ever, and yet, have much less to show for it. And I want to start by saying that your frustrations are valid! Think even the best of us get annoyed at how easy it is to watch everything come crumbling down because of one missed step. But that's why we're talking about it today. Y'see, on today's episode of PlumesCast, we'll dive deep into how you can reignite your motivation or steeling that determination of yours! We'll talk about celebrating milestones and embracing progress over perfection, something of which I myself am still working on. We'll also gloss back over how to create actionable goals (of which if you'd like more detail, check out the New Year's episode about resolution setting!) and when to reevaluate them for maximizing your success. Lastly, we'll touch base on the key takeaway from today's episode: remembering your "why." All in all, we've got a lot to cover, so hope you're as excited as I am! In this heightened era of interconnection, through technological advances enabling information to be shared faster than it ever could be done before, we're facing a loneliness epidemic. It started with COVID, where most of us who were used to having daily conversations at the office were now reduced to chatting over a few bubbles in the app of the day, and now, we're seeing the results - despite having the ability to talk to anyone anywhere around the world in a moment's notice, we're now having less conversations and feeling lonelier than ever. And that's what we're hoping to address today - in how finding a new bestie starts with finding the friend within yourself, how to positively erase years of negative self talk to build you into the best friend someone else needs, and more importantly, how to lower your walls just enough to find that sometimes the best friends we really needed were just a few steps away. There's a certain magic that comes when listening to someone else tell their stories when you find bits and pieces that resonate with you. Sometimes, it's just small little thoughts that make you nod, others will leave you in tears as you realize you've survived the same things as someone else. It's even more bewildering when it's coming from someone you thought you knew so well. That's why on this week's episode of PlumesCast, we're talking about I'm Glad My Mother Died by Jennette McCurdy, Disrupting the Game by Reggie Fils-Aime, and Crying in H-Mart by Michelle Zauner - to illuminate the core truths behind the three different tales, and how you can use others stories to better write your own. Although we're losing an hour today, the time has never been better to get outside and enjoy the changing weather. And that's why on today's episode of PlumesCast, we're going over how taking a sunny stroll might just be the thing to jump-start your wayside resolutions; or at the very least, give you some much needed peace of mind. We'll also be focusing on the sense of being routinely walking the same area, observing the same flower, or even taking time to just sit outside can develop within you; for what better method of experiencing life in this very moment is there than seeing things around you come back to life after a still and quiet Winter? And for all those people out there dealing with reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder, I want to remind you too that your struggles are valid - that is why I spend a part of the beginning talking directly to you on how perhaps my ways of handling SAD can help you with yours. There's a saying that usually gets quoted before the actual ending of it - "Shoot for the Moon!" Did you know that the whole saying is, "Shoot for the Moon, because even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars"? Too often do we strive for perfection that we end up leaving ourselves without the energy to even begin; what could've been a journey was stopped because the destination wasn't perfect the first time. And so, using himself and his content creation, culinary skills, and professional life as the example, Seth walks you through how to take that perfectionist mentality and make actionable steps towards reaching that overarching goal, or even how to reconstruct it if it's simply unrealistic.Send your questions, comments, and requests for Plumes' Pearls of Wisdom over to PlumesCast@gmail.com, or find Seth on other social medias such as BlueSky, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Twitch, and more as PhantasmaPlumes! In every project, there's a time to press the charge and lead, and others to lay back and watch the flames burn - it's a delicate art that really, most productivity coaches would scoff at. To them, if you're not grinding 24/7 and leading everything, you're a failure; to me, though? It's the smartest play you can make. Why try to take the reigns on something you can't control for example, or what if there's a bigger threat looming over the horizon for your project: is it really worth planting your heels on now, or can it wait until later? On this episode, Plumes runs you through the pros and cons of being passive while being productive, what that can look like, and more importantly, what lessons can be learned from all projects once they hit their completion. We've all been there - the company is asking us to work with people beyond our usual crew to build something monumental, or perhaps they're forcing a change with little explanation, but YOU have to make it work! The long nights... the hours long phone calls... the terrible inside jokes the others make within their team that just never seem to sit right with you, it's rough! And as someone who has recently survived yet another one himself, Plumes is ready to come through with the key tips he figured out while fighting for survival, from rediscovering old passions to unfortunately making sacrifices to keep everything rolling just a bit quicker. February 1st, 2022 - Plumes had a silly dream. And that dream was a Twitch-styled podcast that... really didn't last as long as he thought it would. No, by some miracle or twist of fate, what started off as silly conversations began to grow deeper and deeper, now to the point where nearly every episode last year had some type of mindfulness/wellness or general well-being message attached to it. And honestly, it was such a blast to do. No, what started as something silly to reach out to all of y'all during the days I wasn't streaming became something so uplifting for me and my own mental health, that I genuinely hope you have found some refuge here. We've laughed, we've cried, we've been mad at the world together, and it's just such a wonderful feeling to come around and celebrate two years with y'all. Throughout our everyday life, whether or not we realize it or not, we're constantly "encouraged" to feel like certain things are unbecoming of who we are as people. Some say that a man should never cry, while others argue that women have no place in technology; all horrible things that deny us of what our true passions are, and force us into a life of questioning because we're appeasing someone else rather than ourselves. And that's what I hope to break with you today, as we go through why it's perfectly fine to explore new activities, be more open with ourselves, and challenge the expectations others have placed upon us. Because only when we start listening to ourselves do we truly begin to live, and can we help others do the same.Send your questions, comments, and requests for Plumes' Pearls of Wisdom over to PlumesCast@gmail.com, or find Seth on other social medias such as BlueSky, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube, Twitch, and more as PhantasmaPlumes! We've all heard the saying "Boys will be boys," but how long have we allowed that kind of behavior to be tolerated? And more importantly, how deep has that kind of "Eh, there's nothing we can do about it," response permeated society and caused unjust hurt to all of us living in it? Sorry for the jargon - your boy has been reading some good books lately :) On today's episode though, we talk about some examples of microaggressions that are common within society as I speak to some of them I've experienced within this past week alone, as well as what can be done about them. We can't expect ourselves to change the world overnight, nor should we always step up to every issue, but we can be the leading change to make our world just a bit safer to live in. Although I said it last time, I want to say it again but... bolder! HAPPY NEW YEAR! There we go. 2024 is officially in full swing, and some of us are still actively debating what our Resolutions are for the year; to be honest, I find myself adding new ones to my list every day. However, there's a certain key to making resolutions that a lot of us don't consider, and a certain mindset that you should take when setting yourself up for the year. You want to build yourself up for a great year, yeah? Then give this episode a listen, and hey, let me know what you come up with on the other side! Happy New Year! Or, New Years Eve if you're still in 2023 reading this - but 2023 is officially coming to a close, and it's time to look back on where this previous year has taken us. Or at least, that was the game plan, until I got a bit too heated about the joys of Holiday Shopping well after the holidays. Genuinely considering a Dash Cam for anyone who has good suggestions. Despite what the world will tell you, the holidays are more than mediocre deals and flashy wrapping paper! No, it's more about spending time with loved ones and friends alike, and sometimes it takes a little extra planning to make that seasonal sensation happen. Today's episode goes into how to properly budget for the homies, in one of many tangents of course. We also talk about the importance of taking time for yourself this holiday season, and not allowing yourself to get lost in the glitz and glamor everyone else may be flaunting. Now that the holidays are in full swing, it's important to take an opportunity to reflect back on the year behind, see where you're standing, and make the most of this last month of 2023. I hope you've been keeping up with your rest as you've seen friends and family, and aren't overworking yourself too hard out there. Today's episode delves into where I feel like my wins of the year were, in hopes that in walking you through some of the thought processes behind identifying them, you'll be able to look at this year a bit more kind yourself. Plumes is finally back from Anime Weekend Atlanta 2023, but how did it play out for the last year the con was being held in the Sheraton hotel? Were the chains of past years still weighing down this over 20 year old con from taking off, or was it able to liberate itself as it gets ready to take off for the Georgia World Congress Center? I want to let you know that I'm incredibly proud of you for whatever you did; discovering your mental health, being vulnerable enough to be honest with yourself, that's not an easy thing to do. So whether you did the full week's worth of journaling, or you only took a few moments on the last day to consider everything we talked about the week before, just know I'm amazingly proud of you. Y'know, we live in such a busy time where everything is going crazy that the excuses, "I can't take any time for myself because of [THIS REASON]" or "[THIS PERSON] has it worse than me, I can't complain!" have become commonplace, but really, when was the last time you sat with yourself to look at your own mental health? Here's a challenge - I want you to sit and give yourself the peace to be vulnerable just for a bit. Tell yourself how you're really feeling. There's a great saying, that "if you're doing something you love, it isn't working," but have we ever considered doing something we love to eventually get better at the working side of our lives? Could running conventions, talking with cosplayers, and learning how to order adorable stickers to advertise your fandom site actually make you better at your job, or your future career even? High school is a defining moment for a lot of us, while some of us are still defining what that moment could be right now. This week, I look back at some of the greatest memories the Class of 2013 could provide as I gear up for my 10 year reunion, while imparting some wisdom for those who're still going through those last few great years. Also, for those keeping score at home - I had another staring encounter at ANOTHER gym with a completely different woman. Don't know what to do about that one :)Anyway! It's officially the start of Fall as of September 23rd here in the Northern Hemisphere - but while we're getting out of that Summer Time Sadness, some of us are entering Autumn Time Anguish just thinking about the holidays quickly approaching. How can you afford to go visit your family this year when savings are drying up left and right, and what about your kids presents as inflation soars? Today's podcast isn't about the political side of this story - genuinely, that's a whole other topic that people much smarter than me can get into - but that doesn't mean we can't come together, pick ourselves up, and look at how to properly budget. [This episode was recorded live in front of my Twitch audience on Thursday, September 14th.]As I've made mention before, I used to write a lot of different things to help escape the world around me; the forefront of those being books, the first of which stemmed from a simple game, Animal Crossing. In today's episode, I reflect on the emotions I felt back in the day while reading some of the pieces, from hollow despair to overwhelming hope, while talking about the importance of getting those emotions out into the world, rather than just bottling them in. As of two days ago of this podcast's release, my Mom has been gone for a year. About a year ago, I did an episode called "Death and Life After," in which I talked about everything going through my mind; I thought now would be a good time to talk about how this past year has changed my life. If this works, I'll be surprised that my HTML goes to great lengths :) But anyway, that's beyond the point - listen, you are not anyone's therapist at the end of the day. Unless, y'know, that's your job but you're probably not listening to this episode for that. But, I'd love to get your opinion on some things down the line perhaps on an interview... Regardless! It's great to be the supportive friend but you've got to set boundaries and take care of your own mental health along the way, otherwise you might just end up doing more damage to yourself and your environment while trying to help others. And of course, if you're feeling overwhelmed yourself, or you don't know how to set boundaries, please don't feel bad about reaching out to professional help yourself. You've learned a new experience, one of which will stick with you for a lifetime; now it's up to you to decide just how you're going to use it. As someone who's been bullied before in the past, I can't even begin to imagine what today's youth has to go through with so much of their lives having been integrated into social media. But this problem transcends the courtyard bully, to the point where even newer content creators base off their entire channels and platforms to be cruel to others. Today, I want to explore what cyberbullying truly is, and give you some real advice from someone who has survived it, for the better I would like to imagine :) Send your questions, comments, and requests for Plumes' Pearls of Wisdom over to PlumesCast@gmail.com, or find Seth on other social medias such as TikTok, Twitch, Twitter, Wisdom, and YouTube as PhantasmaPlumes!
