Introduction to The Empower Energy Technique (EET) Healing Series: Healing from Negative Self-Judgment and Back PainI am excited to start The Empower Energy Technique (EET) Healing Series which share the EETs that I've done over the years with my patients that have been particularly useful for my patients and can be universally helpful for others. To start this series, I've created three different YouTube videos and podcasts. The first is a brief introduction to EET and will walk you through an EET session that addresses negative self-judgment and regret. In addition, it contains an intention that helps reduce back pain because, according to Louise Hay, back pain has a lot to do with regret! The second EET Healing Series targets healing from emotionally immature parents. If you've read the ground-breaking book by Lindsay C. Gibson called "Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents," then you know what this EET will be targeting.Emotionally immature parents are self-centered and lack empathy. They use their children for their own unfulfilled needs. Adult children of emotionally immature parents feel unseen and unlovable despite their efforts to be all that they can be to "earn" love from their parents. Session 2 of the EET series uses Life Energy to heal from the consequences of these early childhood traumas. The third EET Healing Series targets healing from dependency on psychiatric medications. I recommend working with a holistic and integrative psychiatrist on this issue, but not everyone can afford a holistic psychiatrist, so this EET is meant to provide some energy support to those who want to get off their psychiatric medications but can't afford medical treatment. The EET focuses on the use of Life Energy to help improve the neurological system and minimize damage and hypersensitivities that come from psychiatric medication exposure. There will be more EETs to come, so please subscribe to my YouTube and podcast channels for EET Healing Techniques that will be posted soon!Have a great week!Click here to listen to all of The Holistic Psychiatrist Podcast episodes If you like this podcast, please give it a 5-star rating and share this with others! Do you ever suddenly find yourself down the rabbit hole of negative self talk?   Do you ever ask yourself, "Are these thoughts serving me?"   In this episode, I talk about our brain's negative noise. Negative noise tells us negative things about our lives, self, and the world. I discuss how to identify negative noise so that you can process and heal from it. Some negative thoughts get lodged into our minds and we don't even realize it, but there are ways to counteract this and program our brains to lead the lives we want.   Also, in this week's Examples of Awesome interview, Master Certified Coach Brig Johnson is joined by Cathy Council, a Master Certified Life Coach who coaches women on how to look good naked and enjoy the foods they love at the same time. Brig and Cathy discuss how identifying and processing difficult emotions actually allows for more energy to get things done.   Get full show notes and more information here: https://thelifecoachschool.com/497

Buddhism for Everyone with JoAnn Fox

In Buddhism, the concept of "emptiness" (Sunyata) is a fundamental teaching that refers to the absence of inherent existence or independent selfhood. All things, including our self, are empty of inherent existence. The notion of a fixed, permanent, and independent self is an illusion.   The concept of emptiness is closely associated with the teaching of dependent origination (Pratityasamutpada), which explains that all phenomena arise and exist dependently on other factors. In other words, everything in existence is interdependent and lacks a separate, inherent essence.   When applied to the self, emptiness suggests that there is no autonomous, enduring self that exists apart from the ever-changing and interconnected nature of phenomena. Instead, the self is regarded as a fluid, composite entity, constantly influenced and shaped by various causes and conditions.   Belief in a substantial, inherently existing self leads to attachment, craving, and suffering. It is a form of ignorance (avidya) that obscures the true nature of reality. By understanding emptiness of the self, one can overcome attachment, cultivate wisdom, and ultimately attain liberation from the cycle of suffering (Samsara).   It is important to note that emptiness does not imply nihilism or the non-existence of the self. Rather, it emphasizes the lack of inherent, independent existence. The self does exist conventionally; it is a conventional designation. Understanding conventional truth, we see how labeling all the things in our world allow us to interact with each other and do things. The self we relate to is a product of interdependent causes—always changing—rather than an enduring, fixed entity.     Conventionally we do function in certain ways. Actions of body, speech and mind are generally beneficial, neutral, or harmful. Most actions are neutral: breathing, brushing our hair, driving unless we're cutting someone off or something. If most of our actions are beneficial or neutral, that would cause people to label us as a good person. If a person does profoundly harmful things to others, with few good actions and many neutral actions, people would probably label them a bad person. Someone who frequently steals or physically abuses their partner, for example, might be labeled a bad actor who needs to be off the streets. But if that same bad actor turned his life around and started performing many good and beneficial actions while stopping their harmful actions, they would then be labeled a good person.    Labels like good and bad are not stuck to a person, they aren't inherent, because the way a person functions changes. All the labels we've been called from “hardworking” to “angry” only exist for as long as we function in a way that supports that label. We can change. We aren't inherently anything.    A blade can be used to kill someone in anger, then it's a weapon, or it can be used as a tool to cook a nutritious meal. The blade could be a surgical instrument to remove a tumor. Whether we call it a weapon or a tool for good depends on how it is used. That is the same with our body and minds. Do we mainly use our speech as a tool for good or a weapon?   Because we are an empty self, we can change and function in any way we choose. By changing certain ways we function, we will be able to let go of painful labels and exist in more healthy ways. To look honestly at ways we are functioning that harm ourselves or others requires compassion for ourselves. Compassion is the wish that someone doesn't suffer, and it is a warm, loving mind. Practicing this self compassion helps us to see that we are a Buddha in the making, currently caught in the thorns of anger, attachment, and ignorance. Rather than grasping at our deficiency, we try to develop the compassion that sees our limitations as temporary. In fact, we simply need to create the causes to experience the permanent peace and bliss of enlightenment. Buddha taught that for all beings, our destiny is enlightenment.    Anyone who doesn't cherish as “mine” Anything of body-and-mind  And who doesn't grieve for that which doesn't exist,  Is indeed called a bhikkhu. As we continue our exploration of some of the symptoms of CPTSD in Season 8 and unpack them survivor-to-survivor, today we dialogue with the second symptom category which is a negative self-view. We break down what a negative self-view is, why this term feels so inadequate, and why this condition persists even though we can intellectually make sense of it as adults. Tuning in you'll hear about the parental neglect or rejection present in those of us with CPTSD, how younger Parts of ourselves become frozen-in-time, and how the Protective Parts of ourselves come online and develop belief systems forged in the context of parental neglect and rejection to result in a negative self-view.  We also talk about death-like feelings of helplessness and hopelessness that we may feel and the physiological state change and reach behavior that results. By really unpacking the CPTSD symptom of a negative self-view, we give ourselves language and conceptualization to understand it better, and develop a sense of how to deal with it, so join us today.   Key Points From This Episode:   The focus for the next two episodes: negative self-view. A definition of ‘negative self-view' and why this term feels so inadequate. How this negative self-view persists even though we can intellectually make sense of it as adults.  How Internal Family Symptoms (IFS) provide a framework for why this negative self-view is so pervasive and entrenched.  Insight into the dark energy of trauma that we inherit from our ancestors and how it activates our negative self-view.  The parental neglect or rejection present in those with CPTSD.  The Wounded Younger Parts of ourselves that become frozen-in-time and what they look like.  The Protective Parts of ourselves that come online and develop a belief system forged in the context of parental neglect and rejection that results in a negative self-view.  Why it's not the inner children or Wounded Younger Parts that have the negative self-view but the Protective Parts.  How this results in death-like feelings of helplessness and hopelessness.  How the Protective Parts make use of adaptive survival instincts which isolate the system even more. The physiological state change and Reach behavior that results in a negative self-view cycle. The disruption that happens that enables you to see outside of the reality you find yourself in. What you can expect from the next episode.    Tweetables:   “Why does this negative view of myself persist when intellectually, I can absolutely make sense of it?” — Dr. Tanner Wallace [05:27]   “In the context of parental neglect and/or parental rejection, there are these wounded younger parts of us that almost get frozen-in-time and fragmented off.” — Dr. Tanner Wallace [08:29]   “These wounded younger parts of us have these feelings that until they're alchemized, or until they're released or unburdened, there is this level of ‘I hurt' energy in our system.” — Dr. Tanner Wallace [10:59]   “It makes sense to me that if a protective part comes online, they're seeing the parents, they're seeing the wounded younger parts, that they develop a belief system based on observation which is forged in the context of parental neglect and rejection.” — Dr. Tanner Wallace [14:13]   Links Mentioned in Today's Episode:   Verywell Mind  The Five Circuits of Healing Power Tanner Wallace on Instagram CPTSD Medicine on Instagram Tanner Wallace on Facebook Held By Tanner Email List Held By Tanner Podcast

In this episode of The Fit Mom Podcast, Lauren talks about dealing with bad body image days.  Today, Lauren shares some tips on dealing with your bad body image days.Having a Poor Body Image[2:38]Conversations with Ourselves[5:50]Lauren shared a story about the TikTok video where a woman talked about going to the gym. The story revolves around her and the people around her acting rudely about her looks and what she does in the gym. This story concluded that the people around her are a representation of herself. She is having conversations with herself, talking badly about herself. Lauren mentioned that these conversations happen every single day, even the most confident person experiences this.Reference Point[10:19]One of the tips that Lauren suggests is having a reference point to bring yourself back to reality. If you are on a fitness journey, your body changes a little every day. However, the actual changes will be seen weekly or monthly. This means that day to day, you just see the same thing, but you are thinking differently. Having a reference point brings you back to the reality that you are the same person you were that day.Trust in the Process[12:50]You have to remember to trust the process. In the fitness journey, things don't happen instantly, which is why you must trust the process. Lauren mentioned that she understands how people feel because they have worked so hard, so they want the result to happen quickly. What you need to do is to keep doing the right thing and trust the process.            Negative Self-talk[16:46]Negative self-talk is a learned behavior, and sometimes it may have come from the parents or something learned over time. Just like negative self-talk, you could learn to say nice things to yourself. This can also create a ‘law of attraction' kind of effect.Closing[20:37]Start thinking about the good things about yourself, your day, and anything else. This will help you from saying bad things to yourself. This will also help you on bad body image days. It will help you in anything like when you feel like a bad mom, or feel bad about your life, etc.Go to https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-fit-mom-podcast/id1639640645 to listen to the other episodes of The Fit Mom Podcast. You can also follow Lauren on her social:InstagramLearn more about coaching opportunities Grab the FREE 7 Simple Food Swaps GuideSubscribe to the show and listen to more episodes on Apple Podcasts or Spotify

Dealing with our negative self-beliefs is always easier to say than do but it is so worthwhile to debunk the misconceptions we have about ourselves. This binge series 1 is a bonus 8 part discussion of the different topic in Lorraine Nilon's Your Insight & Awareness Book. It is about self-awareness and the different barriers we have to knowing and loving ourselves. Your Insight & Awareness Book- Your Life is an Expedition to Discover the Truth of Yourself -- https://geni.us/16jAzXS (Amazon) It is a detailed guide to broaden your understanding of the journey of life. I won't lie – Your Insight and Awareness Book can feel confronting as you start recognizing what is hidden in your emotional baggage and the ways you approach yourself and life. It is designed similar to a flip book – open it up read a paragraph or page and look for what triggers a response within you. The reaction is revealing information to you. Self-discovery is challenging, especially if you don't know what to challenge. This book reveals this to you, but you set the pace. Some paragraph will resonate with you and leave you wanting to know more or reaffirm what you internally knew. Some you'll read and say I don't get it (MARK IT) and then come back and you'll have the AHA experience and laugh at why it seems so hard to get. This means your awareness moved and that is what this book is designed to do: Challenge you to expand your awareness. HOWEVER, if it triggers an emotional reaction, irritates you, leaves you thinking or triggers something – you have found yourself on a journey to a greater understanding of yourself. Remember: Your Insight & Awareness Book is designed for you to randomly; select pages, paragraphs, sentences or illustrations, and use them as a source of contemplation. In this episode we're going talk about self-image. What it is, how it affects every area of our life and how to overcome it.Self-image is the personal view, or mental picture, that we have of ourselves. It's  an “internal dictionary” that describes the characteristics we feel about ourself, including both positive and negative feelings. This “internal dictionary” begins developing when we are very young. Each positive and negative life event adds to our “mental” dictionary.  These entires become “thought patterns” that govern our lives. Why does self-image matter?Because how we feel impacts our lives in some way:Mentally… how we think.Emotionally… how we feel.Physically… how we respond.Relationally… how we connect to others.Spiritually… how we respond to God. The enemy uses our negative thought-patterns to attack our minds. Recognizing and embracing what God has done for you will help you break free from the cycle of negative thoughts that have been controlling your life. This episode will layout practical steps that will help you break free from the negative way you feel about yourself. It's time for you to stop letting your painful past define you. Let's start building!

Is it safe to say that everyone listening right now agrees that we all want to achieve our goals? I know I do. Personally, I'm a goal setter, sometimes I do it subconsciously but I definitely set goals. Now, we all probably also know that there are many impediments to achieving those goals, or certain impediments that will always stand in our way. Well, for the next six episodes Pastor Harris will touch on one of these impediments each episode and help us address this head-on, and put us on a trajectory of personal success. So let me introduce the first of these six impediments Pastor Harris will touch on in this first episode. One of the most devastating obstacles is simply the way we see ourselves.  You see those that see themselves negatively rarely if ever achieve success in life.  More often than not, a negative self-image usually developed early in life.  It could start with something like being the last chosen to be on a team, doesn't really matter what sport it was, those who are the last to be chosen often grow up thinking they are not athletic. This is NOT based on facts, it is based instead on what other people think of them.  Some people with negative self-images made low grades in school, therefore they grew up thinking of themselves as backward.I think the point Pastor Harris will be making is this.  Until we come to an authentic and unclouded idea of who we are until we cease to allow our identities to be a reflection of the opinion of others we will live our lives in a fashion that will lead us to a life of defeat and not a life of success.

May 30th, 2022 Our recent Ask David with Dr. Matthew May included a question on the Acceptance Paradox that triggered many enthusiastic email responses, and people were asking for more on this topic. Rhonda read several, including an email from Jeff who finally “got” the Acceptance Paradox and grasped the meaning of the “Great Death” of the Self. So, today, we're dedicating the entire hour to this topic. In addition, I'm including a link to a partial draft of a manuscript I'm working on entitled “25 Paths to Self-Acceptance.” It's fragmentary and far from complete, but does include some potentially useful ideas and techniques, including a vignette with a quiz about a woman from South Los Angeles who experienced what I call “instantaneous enlightenment” during one of my 5-day psychotherapy intensives several years ago at the South San Francisco Conference Center near the San Francisco airport. (LINK TO MS) First, here's what a listener named Jeff wrote after the previous podcast. Ah! I F-I-N-A-L-L-Y get what you're saying. I've pondered this death of "self" for quite a while after reading Feeling Great and it finally sunk in. Saying "I want to improve myself" or "become a better person" is nonsensical. It's like there's an amorphous ghost "self" that I want to somehow "improve" or make "more worthwhile." But it's all made up. There is no actual "self." Meaning, I can improve skills I have - but my "self" won't be better. My skills might be - but there's no "self" to improve. I can improve my juggling skills but never my "self." Wow. Even when it comes to flaws, I can see that they're also very specific. I don't have a flawed "self" or a bad "self." I may have certain flaws but there's no "I" or "self" to be flawed or worthless. It took me a long time to see it - but now that I do, how awesome it is to stop having to IMPROVE myself. Instead, I can just let go of "my self." Thank you for the response and the additional information. That is so helpful! ! During today's show, a number of vignettes illustrating acceptance were shared, including a man from the CIA who was intensely ashamed because he didn't have a sense of humor, and all of the men he worked with loved to hang out during breaks at work telling jokes and laughing. He pretended to laugh, but inwardly felt ashamed and inadequate, and was telling himself that he was inferior, or defective because he didn't have a sense of humor. His enlightenment came during role-playing with a powerful technique called the Externalization of Voices. David played his Positive Self, and the patient, in the role of his Negative Self said this to David: Patient, in the role of his Negative Self: You know, you're really inferior because you don't have a sense of humor. You're not a real man! David in the role of the Positive Self, responded like thi:s.Well, you know, you're right. And in fact, I have tons of flaws. My lack of a sense of humor is just the tip of the iceberg! This struck the patient as incredibly funny, and he began laughing uncontrollably for several minutes and almost feel out of his chair. Then David said, “Not bad for someone with no sense of humor,” and that triggered even more laughter. That's why it's called the Acceptance Paradox. The very moment when you accept yourself, exactly as you are, warts and all, everything—all your perceptions of yourself and the world—are suddenly transformed, and your freed from the prison you'd been in for many years, or possibly for your entire life. Let me spell out what happened. For many years, my patient had been struggling with his lack of a sense of humor, and the harder he fought, the tighter the trap become. He could not change, and his life had become grim, and he felt inadequate and ashamed, thinking he wasn't a "real man," which seemed awful! The very moment he "gave up" and accepted the fact that he had no sense of humor, he suddenly found his sense of humor, and laughed uncontrollably for several minutes. That's what I mean when I say that acceptance is the greatest CHANGE a human being can make--and that's a gigantic paradox. Can you see that now? One important focus of the show was debunking the many reasons people have for resisting Self-Acceptance, such as: If I accept myself, I'll just be ordinary, or below average, and I won't be special. Acceptance is a slippery slope. If I accept something bad about myself, or some awful thing I did, I might end up doing something immoral or wrong. If I did something immoral or wrong, or even if I screwed up and failed to achieve my goals, I deserve to suffer. If people see that I'm flawed or “less than,” they'll judge me. If I accept myself, I'll lose my motivation to learn, to grow, and to improve myself. If I accept myself, I'll have to lower my standards. I may be unhappy, even miserable at times, but at least I have high standards! When I beat up on myself, it shows that I'm honest about my flaws. If I accept myself, I will end up accepting the fact that I might really be inferior! In addition to addressing these concerns, Matt, Rhonda and David contrasted healthy vs unhealthy acceptance. For example, unhealthy acceptance is associated with feelings of depression, shame, hopelessness, paralysis, loneliness and cynicism. Healthy acceptance, in contrast, is associated with the exact opposite feelings of joy, pride, hope, creativity, intimacy, and laughter. Matt pointed out that most, and conceivably all people who resist acceptance are not “seeing” something potentially incredible and life-changing. David pointed out that the “Great Death” of the “self” that the Buddha described more than 2500 years ago is not really the “death” that people fear, but is really the “Great Rebirth.” When you “lose” your “self,” you actually lose nothing, because there was nothing there in the first place. But you gain the world, along with liberation from your suffering. And that's every bit as true today as it was at the time of the Buddha! Thanks for joining us today. Rhonda, Matt, and David

Today we are going to practice one of my favorite meditations. It's simple, fun, and beautiful. Watering Your Flowers. It helps us to be more positive throughout our day and recognize when we go down the "path of negativity". The results of meditation happen when we are not on the mat. Negative Self - talk. We're all susceptible to it. But when we have a regular meditation pratcice, we become more aware when we have that battle in our head. We can more often choose positivity. Studies have shown that we have up to 60,000 thoughts per day. 95% of those thoughts are repetitive. 80% are negative. For example, “I'm not good enough, or “I'm going to fail”, etc. Through this repetition we've become good at negative self-talk. Good at judging ourselves. This meditation will help you recognize when you are being judgmental or critical. It will help you learn that “the voice” is there, but maybe the next time, you will not let it push you toward fear, anger, resentment, or regret. Instead you will move towards thoughts of peace, love, and positivity. Let's begin.
