Is brain rot caused by screen time just a Gen Z problem — or does it affect everyone supporting those living with dementia? The term brain rot was coined by Henry David Thoreau in 1854 to describe the preference for simple ideas over complex ones. Today, endless scrolling and passive screen time have made it a modern epidemic — and it has real implications for dementia care. In this episode, Teepa Snow and Greg Phelps explore the difference between passive observation and active engagement, why that distinction matters for people living with brain change, and how care partners can use conversation, curiosity, and connection to stimulate meaningful interaction. You'll learn: Why passive TV watching and internet scrolling look similar in the brain — and why that matters How active conversation creates cognitive demand that passive media simply can't What care partners can do differently to encourage real engagement How Positive Approach to Care® courses and video resources can help you build true engagement skills Whether you're supporting at home or in a facility, the tools you use to connect make a difference. This episode will change how you think about screen time — for your person, and for yourself. Ready to build real engagement skills? Positive Approach to Care® Champion Courses give you practical, hands-on tools to connect more meaningfully with those you're supporting — and skill demonstration is required, not just course completion.

Sometimes you doomscroll, sometimes the doom scrolls you. This week Ian presents new evidence to back his argument that we are, in fact, doomed. We love you!
It starts with one scroll… and before you know it, you're overwhelmed, anxious, and mentally drained. So, what's really happening to us in this always changing world? We bring together psychology and workplace insight to unpack doomscrolling, global stress, and how to build healthier ways of staying informed.
90 Prozent Dankbarkeit, 10 Prozent reines Vitriol, dazwischen nichts. Don't Hate, Cultivate: Turning Negativity Into Community Help Juan reflects on how easy and even enjoyable it can be to "hate" or judge others—citing examples like comic book movies, social media, the news, and everyday relationships—but argues it's ultimately unsatisfying. Inspired by a "Don't hate, cultivate" shirt from Cultivate Coffee in Phoenix, they propose cultivating as a remedy: creating, connecting, referring others, supporting events, and helping "the helpers," echoing Mr. Rogers' idea of looking for helpers during crises. They emphasize that small acts—showing up, donating, introducing people, borrowing sugar from neighbors to build mutual support—strengthen community and reduce envy, fear, and doomscrolling. The call to action is to ask how you can help, ask for help yourself, and redirect negative energy into constructive action or support for someone you trust. 00:00 Are You a Hater 00:35 Why Hating Feels Good 01:02 Dont Hate Cultivate 02:00 Cultivating Through Referrals 02:45 Look for the Helpers 04:41 Doomscrolling and Outrage 06:03 It Takes a Village 06:47 Neighbor Sugar Story 07:59 Ask for Help Too 08:19 Flip Hate Into Action 09:06 Final Sendoff
Was hilft gegen Doomscrolling? Rote Pandas! Parenting Anxious Teens | Parenting Teens, Managing Teen Anxiety, Parenting Strategies
Hi Parents! In this episode I'm joined by Dr. Erica Rozmid, a board-certified clinical psychologist and expert in evidence-based therapies like CBT and DBT, to explore the impact of social media and screen time on teen mental health. Together, we dive into the growing concern of doomscrolling and how constant exposure to negative content, comparison, and information overload can contribute to anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and low mood in teens. Dr. Rozmid introduces the powerful concept of shifting from “tech monitoring” to “tech mentoring,” helping parents move beyond simply limiting screen time and instead guide their teens toward healthier, more mindful technology use. We explore how parents can recognize when social media use is becoming problematic, what warning signs to look for, and how to support teens in breaking the cycle of excessive scrolling without creating power struggles. This conversation also highlights the importance of modelling healthy digital habits as parents and creating a home environment where technology supports well-being rather than undermines it. If you're feeling concerned about your teen's relationship with screens, social media, or their mental health, this episode offers practical tools, expert insights, and a more connected, supportive approach to navigating the digital world together. Frag dich regelmäßig: Bist du wirklich in deinem Leben angekommen? Bist du in deinem Flow? Tust du das, was dich glücklich macht? Wenn ja, wunderbar. Wenn nein, was musst du verändern, damit du dorthin kommst? Reflektiere. Denke nach. Frage dich: Was will ich wirklich? Was ist mir wichtig? Wo soll meine Reise hingehen? Dann gehe diesen Weg konsequent. Nicht alle Menschen werden deine Entscheidungen verstehen. Nicht alle werden begeistert sein. Aber das ist nicht entscheidend. Entscheidend ist, dass du glücklich bist. Denn Glück entsteht nicht durch äußere Umstände. Es entsteht in dir. Du bist verantwortlich für dein Glück. Niemand sonst. Fang an. Heute. Jetzt. Denn niemand weiß, ob morgen überhaupt noch kommt. Kenne deine Ziele. #Montag #Motivation #Glück #Erfolg #Dankbarkeit #Persönlichkeitsentwicklung #Mindset #Podcast #Lebensfreude #Flow #Selbstverantwortung #Lebensziele #ErnstCrameri #Ergebnisorientiert Hier findest du eine Übersicht aller aktuellen Seminare https://crameri.de/Seminare Bild: 9. America's a funny place. It's not a country with a fixed geographic or religious identity. We don't have a common story of divine creation. "What we have," writes Ben Rhodes in his new book, All We Say, "are words." The words of the founding documents, yes — but also "the words of speeches spoken by Americans who call us to be that better version of ourselves." Ben has spent more time with great American speeches than just about anyone. For eight years, he was a speechwriter in the Obama White House, crafting some of the defining oratory of the era. His new book is a 250-year tour through 15 speeches that built the country, challenged it, and raised its sights. He tells us how FDR changed the course of WWII from behind the lectern, how MLK ad-libbed one of the most famous lines in American history, and what Obama's 2008 speech about race can teach today's politicians about storytelling. And he makes the case that America needs great oratory now more than it has in a long time.

We're back — and this time, with intention. In this first episode we're diving straight into something that may be quietly keeping you from everything God has called you to: doomscrolling.Proverbs 4:23-27 tells us to guard our hearts above all else — but how can we do that when we're constantly drowning it out with noise, distractions, and endless scrolling? In this episode, we talk honestly about how the habit of consuming content non-stop can block your ability to hear from the Holy Spirit, walk in your purpose, and experience the healing God has for you. This is your sign to put the phone down and tune back in — to God, to yourself, and to your calling.

The News Is Broken—And It's Breaking Your Brain BREAKING NEWS!” Every alert is urgent. Every headline is a crisis. Every story is supposedly the end of the world. But what if the real problem isn't the news… it's the way the news is built? Today on The Karel Show, we dive into the nonstop outrage machine that modern media has become. Fear, anger, panic, urgency—it's all engineered to keep you watching, clicking, doom-scrolling and emotionally exhausted. Are we finally tuning out because the news itself is broken? We'll look at today's biggest headlines and ask: * Which stories truly matter? * Which are manufactured outrage? * And how much of “breaking news” is actually broken journalism? Also: Primm, Nevada—the once-iconic stop between Las Vegas and California—is becoming a modern ghost town. So what killed it? Bad planning? Changing travel habits? Corporate greed? We'll break down the slow collapse of a desert landmark. And the Pope issues a massive warning about Artificial Intelligence in a 43,000-word address—and the tech world immediately shrugs it off. Is the Vatican overreacting… or seeing something Silicon Valley refuses to admit? The Karel Show streams live Monday through Thursday at 10:30 AM PST. On today's episode of The Therapy Crouch, Abbey and Peter are still living their best lives in Portugal… although Pete's ego may have taken a slight battering after a disastrous mixed doubles tennis tournament against a group of senior citizens who absolutely wiped the floor with him. Abbey wastes no time exposing exactly what went wrong, including Pete's “respectful” approach that spectacularly backfired. The couple also dive into one of the biggest causes of relationship tension — diary planning. From golf days and family logistics to who really controls the calendar at home, Abbey explains why every single plan now has to go through Claire before marital chaos erupts. Plus, the gang discuss relationship “icks”, going upstairs two at a time, hobbies couples should definitely keep separate, and whether Oasis officially counts as “Dad Rock”.Elsewhere, Abbey reveals her surprising obsession with David Beckham's vegetable garden and chickens, Peter reminisces about Oasis nostalgia and Desert Island albums, and the team debate what books and music they'd take if stranded forever. There's also talk of reality TV habits, holiday advice, and why some things are simply better enjoyed without your partner.00:00 Portugal Detox & Party Recovery 01:14 Peter Gets Humbled At Tennis 03:00 “Consistency Is Key In Tennis” 04:31 Ross Update & Listener Messages 04:58 Abbey Hates Seeing Pete Lose 05:26 Abbey's Fear Of Tennis Lessons 06:27 Abbey Opens Up About Childhood & Sport 07:20 Abbey vs Peter: Ultimate Sports Day 08:31 The Couple Argument Everyone Has 10:11 Abbey's Strict Family Diary System 12:03 Why Busy Couples Always Clash 12:49 The Weirdest Relationship Ick 13:28 Running Up Stairs Debate 15:14 Abbey Reveals Her Biggest Insecurity 15:45 Abbey Discovers A “Normal” Listener 16:26 Abbey's Celebrity Lookalike Debate 18:05 Couples Sharing Hobbies Goes Wrong 19:14 TV Shows They Refuse To Watch Together 20:37 Hunger Games & Comfort Movies 21:39 The Best Holiday Advice Ever 22:52 Tail's.com Ad Read 24:28 Desert Island Dilemmas Begin 25:35 The One Book They'd Save Forever 27:31 Roald Dahl & Childhood Reading Memories 28:07 Abbey's Disturbing Book Confession 30:15 The Secret To Getting Kids Reading 30:55 Desert Island Albums 31:41 Oasis, Nostalgia & Dad Rock Arguments 34:04 Abbey's Beckham Garden Obsession 35:34 Doomscrolling & “Ignorance Is Bliss” 36:19 Peter's James Bond Fantasy Life 36:40 Peter's Visit To Eton 37:49 Inside Eton's Incredible Traditions 39:15 What Makes Privileged Kids Different? 41:02 The Reality Of Elite Schools 42:40 The Team Debate Luxury & Success 44:18 What They'd Actually Miss On A Desert Island 46:03 Desert Island Guilty Pleasures 47:51 Holiday Packing Essentials 49:20 Things Couples Secretly Judge Each Other For 51:08 Their Most Addictive Habits 52:44 Listener Dilemmas Return 54:33 Final Portugal Reflections 56:17 EndTo contact us:Email: thetherapycrouch@gmail.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thetherapycrouchpodcast/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thetherapycrouchWebsite: https://thetherapycrouch.com/For more from Peterhttps://twitter.com/petercrouchFor more from Abbeyhttps://www.instagram.com/abbeyclancyOur clips channelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZntcv96YhN8IvMAKsz4Dbg Hosted on Acast. Most of us are walking around in a low-grade state of fight-or-flight all the time, and we don't even realize it. It looks like the tight jaw in the morning, the exhaustion that doesn't lead to sleep, or the feeling of being on edge even on a good day. These are signs of a nervous system that never got the signal that it's safe to come down. In this episode, I'm sharing a lesson from my new free video course called Everything is Terrible: An Anxiety Toolkit for the Age of Doomscrolling. It's a five-lesson toolkit for people who care deeply about the world and are quietly exhausted by the weight of it. Each lesson is a standalone tool you can use when you need it. This episode shares an excerpt from one of these lessons, covering: -What's actually happening in your body when you're stuck in fight-or-flight -How to manually activate your parasympathetic nervous system even when the external world is still chaotic -Two specific breathing techniques you can use anywhere to send your body the "all clear" signal -Grounding phrases for when your body has settled but your brain is still spinning. Check out the full Everything is Terrible toolkit FREE on my Substack. In this episode, I sit down with health and fitness coach Brian Bidanjiri to talk about the deeper side of transformation — the part most people avoid. We get into his journey from alcoholism, emotional eating, and smoking weed daily to losing nearly 100 pounds and rebuilding his life through fitness, structure, and self-awareness. But this conversation goes far beyond weight loss. We talk about using food for comfort, dopamine addiction, doom scrolling, emotional avoidance, relationships, identity, and why so many people stay stuck even when they "know what to do." If you've ever felt like you're constantly distracting yourself, negotiating with yourself, or looking for comfort instead of actually dealing with what's underneath… this episode will hit home. Scrolling. Porn. Gaming. Junk food.It all feels different, but it's the same loop.Short hits. No effort. No progress. You're not stuck because you're weak. You're stuck because your environment and habits are built to keep you there.Change the inputs, change the behaviour.Less friction to do the right things. More friction to do the wrong ones. That's where control comes from.In this audio I break down how to reset that loop and take your focus back. You can also watch it here: https://youtu.be/k3p1sbrWiLw

In this special double-feature episode, the hosts get real about the emotional toll of doomscrolling and existential anxiety—and how each of them copes. From taking intentional breaks from social media, to grounding breathwork, to finding comfort through prayer, each host shares her personal approach to lightening the weight of the world. In the second half, Claire, Laurie, and Anna reflect on recent trips that offered both escape and perspective. Whether traveling familiar paths or plunging into the unexpected, these getaways provided more than rest—they reshaped how each host approaches stress, presence, and perspective back home.Join Anna, Claire, and Laurie as they connect the dots between travel, mental well-being, and resilience, proving that sometimes a change of scenery can make all the difference—unless your version of relaxation includes a party boat and a group sing-along to “Sweet Caroline.” Then all bets are off. We talk about something that feels almost counter-cultural today: the power of slowing down. From Fr. Fadi's beautiful multi-course Italian dinner for the Bishop to the everyday grind most of us live in, we explore how constant work, hustle culture, and “rise and grind” thinking are quietly harming our faith, families, and peace of mind. We unpack why true leisure isn't laziness—it's actually one of the most human and Christian things we can do. We discuss "Babette's Feast," how shared meals have shaped Christian culture for centuries, the beauty of real conversation and presence, and why the Sabbath is meant to be a protest against the worship of work and money. We also get honest about the struggle: busy parents, priest life, economic pressures, and how hard it is to break the habit of constant busyness. Featuring: Fr. Simon Esshaki, Fr. Andy Younan, Fr. Matt introduces "doomscrolling," linking compulsive online consumption to worsened sleep and mental health. He tracks social media's rise (1997-2016), noting increased addiction. By 2016, 82% of 12th graders spent six hours daily online, often at sleep's expense. Matt also highlights heightened psychological distress in adolescent girls due to comparison-focused platforms.Noting that "doomscrolling" is tied to FOMO, addiction, and distress, he describes a bidirectional loop: poor sleep drives doomscrolling, intensifying depression, further degrading sleep. Challenging the blue light myth, Matt shows minimal sleep onset delay. And identifies cognitive/emotional arousal and the FOMO-rumination-procrastination cycle as true disruptors. He concludes with practical interventions: usage caps, phone-free bedrooms, and consistent cutoff times. Please note that Matt is not a medical doctor, and none of the content in this podcast should be considered medical advice in any way, shape, or form, nor prescriptive in any way.Clean biological living requires precision.
