The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Have you ever asked yourself? Do I give my children room to make decisions and mistakes, or do I try to control outcomes too tightly? How often am I sitting down with my kids and really listening to their perspective instead of just telling them what to do? Am I open about my struggles as a parent and willing to admit when I don't have all the answers? Navigating the relationship between father and son is never straightforward, especially as your child grows into a young adult. On this episode of The Dad Edge Podcast, Larry Hagner welcomes his son Ethan for a candid discussion about the so-called "friendship gap"—that elusive space between being too much of a friend and not enough of a parent. Larry and Ethan get real about their own family dynamics, sharing personal stories of where things clicked—and where they missed the mark. From lecture-based parenting in elementary school to establishing new routines as Ethan enters adulthood, they explore the effects of too much leniency or authority, and the importance of clear communication, shared expectations, and accountability. Whether you're raising toddlers or about to launch your kids into the world, this episode is packed with relatable, actionable insights on fostering a deeper father-child bond—while still preparing your kids for the real world. Stick around for honest reflections, a few laughs, and tips that will help any dad walk the fine line between being a guide, a leader… and a friend. Become the best husband you can: https://bit.ly/deamarriageyoutube In this vital conversation, we dig into: Balance Structure and Connection: Avoid leaning too hard into “just being friends” or being purely authoritarian. Kids crave both boundaries and genuine connection. Use Storytelling and Curiosity: When tough conversations arise, share your personal stories and ask thoughtful questions to guide your child's own critical thinking—instead of falling into lecture mode. Create a Supportive Environment: Physical order (like a clean room or set routines) supports mental clarity and well-being; maintain structure even during transitions to help kids thrive. This episode is packed with relatable, actionable insights on fostering a deeper father-child bond—while still preparing your kids for the real world. Here's what research and observation highlight about family emotional connection: children who reported having both warmth and structure from their fathers had a 30% higher chance of reporting positive life satisfaction and emotional regulation in adulthood compared to those who experienced only discipline or only friendship. Studies show that 67% of adolescents report they “completely tune out” or “stop listening” during long lectures from parents, favoring concise, two-way conversations instead. Studies show that 70% of young adults feel unprepared for the practical aspects of adulthood, while 59% of parents report feeling “uncertain” about how to best guide their children through these years 1stphorm.com/dadedge thedadedge.com/alliance https://www.instagram.com/reel/DKmhchXA95H/?igsh=bHcybXFlNHFwYmhl

Yes I believe Doomscrolling is loosely defined intentionally but I mean the specific act of constantly watching bad news to remain "Informed" yet scared. Doomscrolling, algorithms, artificial intelligence—these concepts have become so familiar to us and such a part of our everyday monotony that they've become jokes. But Nicholas Carr isn't laughing. Carr's work in tech journalism has given him a front-row seat to watch the shift of culture around technology over the last decade. His recent book, Superbloom: How Technologies of Connection Tear Us Apart, explores his observations—and the news isn't great. Online platforms and algorithms seem to know us better than our churches, families, or friends do—especially when the products we glanced at for a fleeting moment now fill our timelines and social media feeds. But we already knew that, right? And still we face obstacles to capture our own conscious minds. Carr's work is a call for a cultural revolution to reclaim the human experience from the clutches of technology. Especially when what's at stake is the understanding of community, which finds its roots in the ability to focus to form empathy for others. This conversation shines a light on the profound need for deeper connections and the importance of attention in fostering meaningful relationships. Moore and Carr also talk about the mirage of screens as socialization, an AI priest (whose story doesn't end well), positive outcomes from machines and technology (gasp! Is it possible?), and the way separating from technology might feel an awful lot like excommunication. If you need to be emboldened to cut your screen time or make a change in the way you use technology for your sake and the sake of future generations, this conversation may be the thing you need. Do you ever find yourself endlessly scrolling through bad news, feeling more and more stressed, anxious, or hopeless? You're not alone. In today's episode, host Elizabeth Mintun explores the impact of doomscrolling - that compulsive pull to stay plugged into a constant stream of alarming stories - and why our brains are wired to do it. She talks about what doomscrolling is and why it feels so hard to stop, how our nervous system responds to negative news, and offers practical ways to create boundaries for news and social media so that we can stay informed without being consumed. Elizabeth also shares inspiring examples of human goodness, reminding us that even tiny acts of kindness can reconnect us to hope and resilience.Key TakeawaysDoomscrolling is designed to keep us engaged, not necessarily to keep us healthyNegative news activates our stress response and raises cortisol, leading to physical and mental impactsSmall steps - like mindful time limits and trustworthy sources - can protect our peaceGrounding practices and gratitude can help us re-center and reconnect to what is within our powerResourcesUnlock Your Resilience Style FREE Quiz: https://www.thecalmingground.com/resilience-quizContact Elizabeth: elizabethmintun@thecalmingground.comFind us on IG & FB @thecalminggroundVisit The Calming Ground: http://www.thecalmingground.comGood News Network: goodnewsnetwork.orgOn Being Episode: https://onbeing.org/programs/david-bornstein-on-our-lives-with-the-news/If you found this episode supportive, please consider subscribing, leaving a review, or sharing it with a friend. Hey folks, Ned here. If you're anything like me, you're always curious about how the younger generation views the world we're handing them—including the phones we put in their pockets and the social platforms we love to worry about. In this episode, I sit down with two remarkable high school students, Ellie and Flair, to talk not just about screen time and school phone policies, but how they really experience technology, anxiety, education, and what it means to grow up today.Ellie and Flair are bright, honest, and totally engaging. They bring a much-needed perspective on teen tech use, mental health, screen addiction, and the nuanced balance between connection and distraction. This isn't a conversation about teens—it's a conversation with them. You'll walk away with new insight into what our kids are thinking and feeling, and hopefully, how we can better support them. Gen Z is implementing strategies to reduce doomscrolling and its negative effects on productivity and mental health by embracing digital boundaries, using apps to limit screen time, adopting simplified smartphones, and prioritizing real-world connections. Surveys indicate a preference among younger generations for less internet exposure, while studies show that social media platforms are designed to maximize user engagement at the expense of well-being. Workplace productivity is impacted by digital distractions, prompting business leaders to consider policies that support healthier technology habits and focus among employees.Learn more on this news by visiting us at: https://greyjournal.net/news/ Hosted on Acast. Mind Love • Modern Mindfulness to Think, Feel, and Live Well
In this episode, you'll learn: Why “you're not that good” might be the most freeing thing you'll hear all year How to stop performing connection and actually feel it What your nervous system, your kids, and your future self really need from you You ever feel like connection shouldn't be this hard? We're wired for it. Built to bond. Yet somehow, we live in a world where loneliness feels like a personal failure—like if you're not constantly fulfilled by your partner, your kids, your group chat, your job, something must be wrong with you. We love to look back and pretend we had it better before. When moms baked sourdough and kids played outside and families sat down for dinner without a single screen in sight. But ask your parents if they ever felt truly seen. Ask your grandparents if they ever really knew their own parents. The truth is, disconnection isn't new. We've just gotten better at distracting ourselves from it. Now we're not only lonely—we feel broken for being lonely. Like we're doing life wrong. Like we just need to try harder, be more intentional, fix ourselves. But what if the answer isn't in trying harder? What if the truth is… you're just not that good? Not in a shameful way. In a liberating way. You're not supposed to be perfect. You're not supposed to hold it all together, all the time, with no village and no margin for error. And the sooner you admit that, the sooner you get to breathe again. And by the way—that line? You're not that good? That's from today's guest, Dr. Jody Carrington. And when she said it, it hit like a truth I didn't know I was waiting for. She's a psychologist, speaker, and bestselling author who's spent decades helping people reconnect—with each other and with themselves. From psychiatric units to packed stages, her work is refreshingly raw, deeply human, and just the right amount of hilarious. Medvirkende:Bjarke Calvin Vinding, stifter, DucklingLinks:Duckling https://www.duckling.co/da

Feeling burnt out, unfulfilled, and in overdrive?? We live in a world where we operate from our analytical brains. As much as that is needed and has its place, if we don't balance it with soulful creation, we will be left feeling passionless and stuck. In today's episode, we discuss WHY we need to incorporate both energies and how it's actually advantageous to create from a heart led place. As our truest core, we are divine intelligence and consciousness and the sure way to tap into that wisdom is to get out of our heads and into our hearts. I share exactly HOW to actually get in that space, one of them being to spend less time on your phone so I also share tips on that to cut the distraction. .Thailand Wellness Retreat // https://trovatrip.com/trip/asia/thailand/thailand-with-olivia-catania-nov-2025.Timestamps0:00 Welcome and Gratitude!3:47 The Innate Wisdom of BEING12:11 How to Get into Your Heart Space28:07 Tips to Get off of Your Phone and Stop Scrolling36:55 Summary and Affirmation38:18 Livfiit Thailand Retreat! Anyone else do that? But, honestly, here's the thing: posting on social media probably won't change things as much as we hope. So, why doesn't it work, and what can we do instead?Send us a private message. *Note: INCLUDE YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS if you'd like us to answer. :-) Support the show

0:00 - 15:00 | Podcast Awards & Internet Chaos Sam and Midnight Mike joke about podcast awards—are they legit or just a money grab? Discussion on early podcasting days and how awards in Vegas used to nominate everyone just to get people to show up. The Piss Army (their loyal fans) floods the chat. Sam plugs his upcoming comedy shows in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Detroit, Michigan. The Wheel of Doom is introduced—spinning to select random bizarre videos to react to. 15:00 - 30:00 | Internet Outrage & Architectural Conspiracies The first Wheel of Doom clip features a woman aggressively using controversial language online—sparking debate about internet outrage culture. Hosts discuss how being aggressively hot gives people a bigger platform online. Video about architecture affecting brain function—high ceilings promote creativity, low ceilings encourage focus. Speculation that modern architecture is deliberately designed to dull people's minds and raise anxiety levels. Sam calls the Tesla Cybertruck ugly and compares its design to Elon Musk's chest. 30:00 - 45:00 | Paranormal Investigations & Hauntings Midnight Mike shares past experiences with non-human negative energy (a.k.a. possible demonic encounters). They discuss ghost hunting—most hauntings aren't terrifying but just energy lingering in places. Some ghosts have a sense of humor—one even played Pictionary with investigators. Conspiracy theory that hauntings are actually spirits stuck in between worlds during their energy transfer. Sam shares a story about a guy waking up with unexplained scratch marks on his back—potential demonic activity? Tucker Carlson recently claimed a similar experience. 45:00 - 60:00 | Ancient History & Suppressed Knowledge A video clip shows seashells found on top of mountains, questioning mainstream geological history. Sam and Mike argue that scientists guess most of their conclusions and resist change for generations. Debate over whether tectonic plates or some unexplained event put seashells that high up. Sam jokes about not wanting to ask AI (like ChatGPT) for answers because the mystery is better. The shortest clip in Doom Scrolling history plays—so short they don't even know what it was about. 60:00 - 75:00 | Viral Stupidity & Internet Trends The Wheel of Doom lands on a video of two guys in Eastern Europe playing a dangerous game—tying a water bottle to a rope and smashing each other in the head. Mike compares it to Jackass, but without a paycheck. Sam points out that men go viral by doing stupid things, while women go viral by being aggressively hot or super kinky. They reflect on Steve-O's career—how you have to keep getting weirder to stay relevant. Internet content today is just exporting stupidity to the rest of the world. 75:00 - 90:00 | Final Chaos & Conspiracy Wrap-Up Another Wheel of Doom spin—people getting hit so hard they start speaking French. Sam and Mike joke about how this is what our money is funding in Ukraine. Discussion about demonic pranks—ghosts messing with people just to cause problems. Mike shares a final ghost story about a haunted scratch attack. Closing thoughts: the world is more complex than we think, and that's why we doomscroll. 00:00 - 30:00 | Kicking Off & The Wheel of Doom Spins Up Show Opening & Banter Midnight Mike and Sam Tripoli kick things off with their usual chaotic energy. Sam promotes his upcoming comedy tour dates in Phoenix and Detroit. Midnight Mike says he's here just for the videos. The Fake Arrest Business A viral service lets men fake their own arrest to get away for a fishing trip. Cops show up, create a chaotic scene, and then drop you off at a campsite with beers and bait. Sam shares a story about a comedian who faked being robbed to get out of bad dates. Haunted Video Game Urban Legend – ‘Spirit Catcher' A creepy SNES game that supposedly predicts the player's death. The final level has a mirror that shows a player's real-life reflection before revealing their fate. The game is linked to a real-life haunted hotel where six people vanished. The hosts compare it to the classic gaming urban legend Polybius. 30:00 - 60:00 | Gaming Surveillance & The Kendrick-Drake Conspiracy Call of Duty & AI NPCs Discussion on reports that Call of Duty secretly records facial expressions through webcams. The game supposedly uses this data to generate AI versions of players that continue playing when they log off. This leads to a conversation about AI clones and social media manipulation. Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake Super Bowl Conspiracy Kendrick Lamar's halftime performance is analyzed for hidden messages aimed at Drake. References to XXXTentacion's death through the use of “X” symbols. His backup dancers' hair matched XXXTentacion's signature hairstyle. Connections between PJ Lang (Kendrick's brand) and Sony (Drake's label). Sam and Midnight are blown away by the level of subliminal messaging. 60:00 - 90:00 | Cultural Shifts & Bizarre Records Hip-Hop is Dying – Country Music on the Rise Discussion on why hip-hop is fading and why people are gravitating toward country music. Fans are more loyal, still buy albums, and stick with artists for life. Rock is also struggling, as no new bands are replacing legends like Metallica. Wheelbarrow Freestyle – The Ultimate Guinness Record Hustle Video of a guy doing skateboard-style tricks with a wheelbarrow. Sam and Midnight joke about how ridiculous Guinness World Records are now. “Be the best at something no one else even attempts.” Twerking & Political Brainwashing A viral video of a woman in a bikini explaining psychological manipulation techniques. Sam reminisces about his old project Twerking in Politics. Whale tails (visible thongs) make a comeback discussion.
