Fatimata Chan is a poet, author, climate activist, speaker, and an award-winning scholar. She has founded multiple initiatives, published a poetry book, and takes different approaches to her activism such as through academia, policy, and art. Fatimata's interconnected approach to human rights allows her to address multiple injustices at once, including gender inequality, racial discrimination, the disproportionate impacts of the climate crisis, and more.Fatimata grew up in the Bronx, New York City. Her upbringing in one of the most underresourced communities in the city, along with her immigrant background, inspired her to begin her activism at a young age by advocating for policy change. Her activism expanded over the years to include mutual aid efforts, community building, creating accessible spaces in academia, and spreading joy through art.We at Closing the Gap podcast acknowledge that the Bronx lies on unceded Munsee Lenape land.ResourcesFatimata's WebsiteFatimata's LinkedInFatimata's LinktreePoem published by the Malala Fund: What do criminals look like? First off, quick apology, the audio might sound a bit off today. I had a chest complication while recording, but I still wanted to show up regardless. Now, today's episode is also about mirrors, but not the one in your bathroom, but the one glowing in your hand: social media. We're unpacking how doomscrolling slowly dents your self-esteem, how comparison sneaks in dressed as motivation, and why maybe your affirmations aren't the problem — your reflection is.Highlights:The internet is not your mirror. You're probably not insecure; you're just online too much.Social media gaslit your self-esteem, and you didn't even notice.Maybe it's not affirmations you need, just a break from the feed.If you found this podcast helpful, please feel free to like, share and drop a review. Send us a textOutrage churns fast, but souls drift quietly. We open with the whiplash of trending headlines and ask a harder question: what happens to our hearts when constant distraction becomes our default? From there, we move into a frank, Scripture-soaked look at endurance, repentance, and the subtle ways believers rationalize sin while calling it something else.Walking through Romans, we explore how Paul confronts Israel's spiritual entitlement—reminding them that being “first” to receive revelation never meant being superior. Privilege without humility hardens into slumber. That lesson travels well into modern church life, where tribal identity and inherited language can pose as spiritual safety. We then revisit the Sermon on the Mount to expose how manmade rules edge out God's commands. Rituals can look holy while the heart grows cold; Jesus flips the lens and locates true defilement in what flows from within.John 3:16 becomes a thunderclap when heard through first-century ears: God's love is global, not tribal. The Messiah came to call one people from every nation, defined by faith rather than pedigree. That reframe challenges common assumptions about “special status” and refocuses us on the only distinction that matters—trust in Christ. Throughout, the throughline is simple and hard: repent today, endure to the end, and make your calling and election sure. Grace isn't fuel for cycles of compromise; it's power to walk in newness of life.If this conversation helps you trade noise for depth, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a review.

We pull back the curtain on what the platforms actually reward, why shorts are best used for brand awareness, and the specific moves that help listeners cross the bridge to your long-form show.We talk about the algorithm reality—how little time people spend with actual friends on major platforms—and what that means for podcasters betting on reels to drive growth. From hooks that stop the scroll to chapters that make episodes navigable, we break down a conversion path that respects your audience's time. We also dig into platform control and fragmentation, from Spotify pushing video to Netflix to creators leaving YouTube, and why owning your domain and a simple “/follow” page reduces friction across the board.Sponsors:PodcastBranding.co - They see you before they hear youBasedonastruestorypodcast.com - Comparing Hollywood with History?Video VersionMentioned In This EpisodeSchool of Podcastinghttps://www.schoolofpodcasting.com/joinPodpagehttp://www.trypodpage.comHome Gadget Geekshttps://www.homegadgegeeks.comNo Agenda Showhttps://www.noagendashow.net/listen/1808Podcast Hot SeatGrow your podcast audience with Podcast Hot Seat. A short list of practical tips for limiting your doomscrolling habit.
You're surrounded by illusions that feel good now but rob you later, p*** as the illusion of intimacy, video games as the illusion of achievement, processed food as the illusion of nourishment, dating apps as the illusion of choice, doom-scrolling as the illusion of connection, weed as the illusion of peace, alcohol as the illusion of confidence, and gambling as the illusion of success. In this episode, I not only name these traps and reveal how they pacify your drive and blur your path to fulfillment. I'll also show you what to do about them, how to recognize them for what they are, and how to take back control when they show up in your life. I'm not speaking from a pedestal. I spent a decade dependent on Adderall, fell into compulsive online habits, and learned the hard way that comfort isn't the cure. I share my story and the science that helped me rebuild, how turning toward pain, not away from it, forged discipline, resilience, and a more meaningful life. You'll leave with a simple lens: when a craving hits, ask, “What deep, meaningful work am I avoiding right now?” Then we use that signal to take one honest step today. If you're ready to trade sedation for purpose and choose the difficult thing on purpose, press play.Support the show

00:00:00 – Storms, Sleep & Studio Power Mike opens with an eight-hour power outage recap, generator logistics, and a running gag about terrible sleep (“maybe aliens”), setting a punchy, sleep-deprived mood. 00:10:00 – Skinwalker Ranch: The “Bubble” Returns Season recap kicks off: the ranch's 200-meter-wide “bubble” over the Triangle scrambles GPS, knocks out electronics, and throws radiation spikes; lidar suggests a defined volume. 00:20:00 – Eyes in the Sky: A Daily Satellite Pass The team partners with a SpaceX integrator to loft a dedicated smallsat that will pass the ranch daily, augmenting drones, rockets, and choppers in the hunt for energy anomalies and UAPs. 00:30:00 – Mesa Mystery: 1960s Dig, Ceramics & Kecksburg A weird manufactured “ceramic” found ~200 feet inside the mesa behaves like a superconductor; a 1964 coin hints the site was dug decades ago. Mike ties it to the 1965 Kecksburg “acorn” and a wider 60s test program. 00:40:00 – Operation… Brain Fog? Detour into historic U.S. Army aerosol tests (San Francisco, St. Louis rooftops), used to argue military secrecy isn't unprecedented; show phones open; YouTube recording hiccups noted. 00:50:00 – Portals, GPS Glitches & Remote Viewers Three big frameworks for Skinwalker: interdimensional/“portal,” trickster intelligence, and covert tech. Reported GPS oddities, “gateways under the mesa,” and remote viewers' sketches feed the theories. 01:00:00 – The Drone That Mutilates Cattle Remote-viewing thread lands on a robotic, possibly interdimensional—but military-linked—“drone” behind cattle mutilations. Wild, but on-brand for the ranch. 01:10:00 – Doomscrolling… on the Throne News riff: celebrity asides lead to a study on phone use in the bathroom and hemorrhoids; the crew roasts toilet-time doomscrolling culture. 01:20:00 – “Smart” Thermostats, Dumb Idea? (Ohio) A proposed Ohio peak-demand bill could let utilities nudge your thermostat and cycle appliances. Spirited rant about smart meters, heat waves, and control vs. reliability. 01:30:00 – Annabelle & A Death on Tour Paranormal investigator's fatal heart attack while touring with the Annabelle doll sparks a talk about curses and how “dark forces” might push back. 01:40:00 – Breakdancing Against Property Taxes Viral clip: a New Jersey candidate breakdances at a town meeting to protest tax hikes. The guys debate property taxes, fixed incomes, and optics—then keep chuckling at the moves. 01:50:00 – “Even the Experts Got Phished” At Singapore's anti-fraud confab, a QR “gotcha” snares attendees; tangent into Southeast Asian scam compounds, Facebook Marketplace headaches, and hygiene tips for digital life. 02:00:00 – AI ‘Slop' & The Human Touch Segment on freelancers fixing botched AI logos and copy; Mike's rant about a friend's AI-generated article that read like “wall-to-wall trash” underscores why craft still matters. 02:10:00 – Late-Night Stream, Early-Morning Blackout After-show vibes: Mike recalls a midnight stream that died in a wide local power outage—no clear cause from the utility—then winds down for the week. Doomscrolling — the endless cycle of scrolling through bad news, frightening headlines and viral disasters — isn't just a problem for adults. Kids and teens are getting caught in the same digital trap, and experts say it's taking a toll on their mental health. In this episode, Adrienne speaks with Dr. Doug Fagan, a licensed psychologist and an Ambassador of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Center of Excellence on Social Media and Youth Mental Health. Fagan has spent years researching how social media and digital habits affect young people's emotional well-being. In this episode, he explains why doomscrolling is so addictive, how it can impact sleep and mood, and what parents can do to help their children break free from it. The conversation dives into strategies for parents to approach the issue with curiosity and empathy, rather than judgment. Fagan emphasizes meeting kids where they are and modeling healthier digital habits. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Sometimes the smallest changes in our environment can dramatically shift the way we think, choose, and live. One subtle adjustment to something we use every day can break old patterns, quiet distractions, and help us act with more intention. And the interesting thing is, these changes often go far beyond the original purpose—they can influence how we approach work, relationships, and even money. So today, we'll be talking about how small, intentional changes—like stripping away distractions—can reshape not only our daily habits, but also the way we approach financial planning and life itself.

We all doomscroll. Often late at night, we scroll through social media or news feeds for a “minute,” which turns into hours. We seem to be chasing bad news. What are we looking for, if anything? What do we hope to get out of it? Is this a bad habit, or are there good aspects to it? Doomscrolling just might be changing our sense of time, of responsibility, and of witnessing. So put down your phones, stop scrolling, and join us for an investigation into the practice of doomscrolling.Full episode notes available at this link:https://hotelbarpodcast.com/podcast/doomscrolling-------------------If you enjoy Hotel Bar Sessions podcast, please be sure to subscribe and submit a rating/review! The modern phenomena of Doomscrolling and its affect on Huntington's Disease. A short monologue.
In this episode, we sit down with therapist Britt Frank to discuss the intention action gap, the psychological term for the chasm between what you very much intend to do and what you tend to do instead. It turns out, there's a well-researched psychological framework that includes a term for when you have a stated, known goal – a change you'd like to make in your life – something you wake up intending to finally do or get started doing, but then don't do while knowing full well you are actively not doing what you ought and wish you had done by now. After we discuss this phenomenon and how to deal with it, we get into procrastination and how to escape all manner of dead-end behavioral loops. The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
Have you ever asked yourself? Do I give my children room to make decisions and mistakes, or do I try to control outcomes too tightly? How often am I sitting down with my kids and really listening to their perspective instead of just telling them what to do? Am I open about my struggles as a parent and willing to admit when I don't have all the answers? Navigating the relationship between father and son is never straightforward, especially as your child grows into a young adult. On this episode of The Dad Edge Podcast, Larry Hagner welcomes his son Ethan for a candid discussion about the so-called "friendship gap"—that elusive space between being too much of a friend and not enough of a parent. Larry and Ethan get real about their own family dynamics, sharing personal stories of where things clicked—and where they missed the mark. From lecture-based parenting in elementary school to establishing new routines as Ethan enters adulthood, they explore the effects of too much leniency or authority, and the importance of clear communication, shared expectations, and accountability. Whether you're raising toddlers or about to launch your kids into the world, this episode is packed with relatable, actionable insights on fostering a deeper father-child bond—while still preparing your kids for the real world. Stick around for honest reflections, a few laughs, and tips that will help any dad walk the fine line between being a guide, a leader… and a friend. Become the best husband you can: https://bit.ly/deamarriageyoutube In this vital conversation, we dig into: Balance Structure and Connection: Avoid leaning too hard into “just being friends” or being purely authoritarian. Kids crave both boundaries and genuine connection. Use Storytelling and Curiosity: When tough conversations arise, share your personal stories and ask thoughtful questions to guide your child's own critical thinking—instead of falling into lecture mode. Create a Supportive Environment: Physical order (like a clean room or set routines) supports mental clarity and well-being; maintain structure even during transitions to help kids thrive. This episode is packed with relatable, actionable insights on fostering a deeper father-child bond—while still preparing your kids for the real world. Here's what research and observation highlight about family emotional connection: children who reported having both warmth and structure from their fathers had a 30% higher chance of reporting positive life satisfaction and emotional regulation in adulthood compared to those who experienced only discipline or only friendship. Studies show that 67% of adolescents report they “completely tune out” or “stop listening” during long lectures from parents, favoring concise, two-way conversations instead. Studies show that 70% of young adults feel unprepared for the practical aspects of adulthood, while 59% of parents report feeling “uncertain” about how to best guide their children through these years 1stphorm.com/dadedge thedadedge.com/alliance https://www.instagram.com/reel/DKmhchXA95H/?igsh=bHcybXFlNHFwYmhl

Yes I believe Doomscrolling is loosely defined intentionally but I mean the specific act of constantly watching bad news to remain "Informed" yet scared. Doomscrolling, algorithms, artificial intelligence—these concepts have become so familiar to us and such a part of our everyday monotony that they've become jokes. But Nicholas Carr isn't laughing. Carr's work in tech journalism has given him a front-row seat to watch the shift of culture around technology over the last decade. His recent book, Superbloom: How Technologies of Connection Tear Us Apart, explores his observations—and the news isn't great. Online platforms and algorithms seem to know us better than our churches, families, or friends do—especially when the products we glanced at for a fleeting moment now fill our timelines and social media feeds. But we already knew that, right? And still we face obstacles to capture our own conscious minds. Carr's work is a call for a cultural revolution to reclaim the human experience from the clutches of technology. Especially when what's at stake is the understanding of community, which finds its roots in the ability to focus to form empathy for others. This conversation shines a light on the profound need for deeper connections and the importance of attention in fostering meaningful relationships. Moore and Carr also talk about the mirage of screens as socialization, an AI priest (whose story doesn't end well), positive outcomes from machines and technology (gasp! Is it possible?), and the way separating from technology might feel an awful lot like excommunication. If you need to be emboldened to cut your screen time or make a change in the way you use technology for your sake and the sake of future generations, this conversation may be the thing you need. Mind Love • Modern Mindfulness to Think, Feel, and Live Well
In this episode, you'll learn: Why “you're not that good” might be the most freeing thing you'll hear all year How to stop performing connection and actually feel it What your nervous system, your kids, and your future self really need from you You ever feel like connection shouldn't be this hard? We're wired for it. Built to bond. Yet somehow, we live in a world where loneliness feels like a personal failure—like if you're not constantly fulfilled by your partner, your kids, your group chat, your job, something must be wrong with you. We love to look back and pretend we had it better before. When moms baked sourdough and kids played outside and families sat down for dinner without a single screen in sight. But ask your parents if they ever felt truly seen. Ask your grandparents if they ever really knew their own parents. The truth is, disconnection isn't new. We've just gotten better at distracting ourselves from it. Now we're not only lonely—we feel broken for being lonely. Like we're doing life wrong. Like we just need to try harder, be more intentional, fix ourselves. But what if the answer isn't in trying harder? What if the truth is… you're just not that good? Not in a shameful way. In a liberating way. You're not supposed to be perfect. You're not supposed to hold it all together, all the time, with no village and no margin for error. And the sooner you admit that, the sooner you get to breathe again. And by the way—that line? You're not that good? That's from today's guest, Dr. Jody Carrington. And when she said it, it hit like a truth I didn't know I was waiting for. She's a psychologist, speaker, and bestselling author who's spent decades helping people reconnect—with each other and with themselves. From psychiatric units to packed stages, her work is refreshingly raw, deeply human, and just the right amount of hilarious.
