What is a dungeon crawler anyway? -loosely, focus on a single dungeon - though perhaps with interconnected zones. And exploring it while powering up a character/party and gathering loot, going deeper each time. Inherited term from a scenario type in tabletop rpgs. The term has been used somewhat loosely of any game that has a dungeon though. Games: Wizardry Series- probably the main archetype -hard to understate the impact these games had on RPGs generally, especially in Japan. Rogue - better known for other elements Eye of the Beholder (SNES) Arcana Neverwinter Nights (AOL 1991 - not the later one so much) Mado monogatari (technically Puyo Puyo is a spinoff of this) The Bard's Tale Trilogy Many (but not all?) Might and Magic games Early Elder Scrolls games (Arena and Daggerfall)-Dungeon Crawls with basic overworld content in Arena that grew in Daggerfall, but retained the Dungeon Crawling Princess Tomato

The Nintendo Entertainment Podcast is here, and with a week's worth of BANANAS under their belt, the hosts are ready to talk Donkey Kong Bananza and beyond! First, though, the team discusses their gaming exploits! Scott reveals a game he's reviewed that ties into the Puyo Puyo franchise! As for Will and Todd, they both break down how much they're enjoying Donkey Kong Bananza! What makes the game stand out, and how much fun is it to play? Hint: a lot! Then, in the news, we got some key Nintendo Switch 2 sales news, and it paints a good picture for how the system is doing! Furthermore, there was a Pokemon Presents...but it didn't reveal as much as you might think. Oh, and Ubisoft continues to put their foot in their mouth...you'd think they'd stop by now. Finally, in the main event, the trio looks into the past to think about games that they've played that brought out their true "fun side!" So sit back, relax, and enjoy the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast!

Did you know Kirby's Avalanche is the only Kirby game never to release in Japan? That's because it's the Western version of Super Puyo Puyo, redesigned with Kirby characters instead of the usual Puyo Puyo crowd. (This also explains why Kirby is a little sassier in this one, as his personality is modeled after Puyo Puyo protagonist Arle Nadja.)For this episode of Kirby Conversations, Sean, Bridget, and Gigi are going through the history of this classic Kirby puzzle game, with an avalanche of trivia, history, other puzzle games we recommend, and even notes on the XBAND, an early modem licensed by Nintendo that made Kirby's Avalanche the first Kirby game with online multiplayer! Whether you're a Puyo Puyo pro or just looking to try one of Kirby's more overlooked titles, Kirby's Avalanche is a tough but fun entry in the series that is still worth checking out almost thirty years later.Want to reach out? Episode 218 was the third focus on Puzzle Games, and features some real bangers. "Warrior's Relaxation" from Shi Kin Jou is a totally 80's track reminiscent of groups like Erasure. "Sticker" from Puyo Puyo is a super fun piece that you can't help but sing along to VGM Karaoke style. In fact, in the full episode, Keyglyph, who is no stranger to VGM Karaoke, joined the boizz live
VGBeats has got a whole host of Mega Drive classics, Saturn bangers and much more to play you from his box this morning including tracks from Puyo Puyo 2, Midnight Resistance, X-Men and more, plus your bogey track and Iceferno track of the week, along with a closing track that might sound familiar to 90s dance music fans...

There's a great saying, that "if you're doing something you love, it isn't working," but have we ever considered doing something we love to eventually get better at the working side of our lives? Could running conventions, talking with cosplayers, and learning how to order adorable stickers to advertise your fandom site actually make you better at your job, or your future career even? I certainly think after years of being a PR-Colored Puyo, I came to be much better with people. It's time for another new episode to drop, and this time we're mixing things up by taking a look at an entirely different Sega franchise, Puyo Puyo! This classic puzzle game series was first and most closely tied to Sonic through Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine in 1993, but the blue hedgehog and those multicolored blobs have proved to be a match-4 made in heaven, and continued to create combos right up to this very day. So listen in find out just how deep the connection between the spiny speedster and the Sorcery Saga spinoff goes. Today, five RPGFan staff discuss ten of their favorite video games or series that aren't quite RPG enough for RPGFan, in a self-indulgent sequel to a 2019 episode. To his shame, the host accidentally says Puyo Puyo when he meant to say Panel de Pon. But the rest of the episode is a great discussion about video games that aren't RPGs. On today's show, Marc talks about the Game of Thrones finale, Puyo Puyo Champions, and how they rank the four Indiana Jones movies; though, let's be clear here, the first movie is still just Raiders of the Lost Ark, none of this "Indiana Jones in..." nonsense. Anyway, something-something doomy and gloomy, cheers and enjoy the anime-zing(ly annoying) show. Anyway, that's it and that's all folks. If you're feeling extra generous, you can become a patron, donate a little something-something, or subscribe to show your support for the site, the plentiful podcasts, the various videos, the absurd art, and all of the other nonsense we make over here at Pixelated Sausage. Thanks for being a fan.
We have a HUGE episode in store today and it's well worth the listen. Opening up our games segment is our reviews on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Puyo Puyo Tetris. Mario Kart 8 delivers ultimate multiplayer for the Nintendo Switch as does Puyo Puyo and they're worth listening to our reviews. We also review a lesser known game called Eon Alter where you use your phone to control the game. In our news segment, Prey is coming out next week plus we announce the free games for May. For news, we have the announcement of Call of Duty: WWII and the Nintendo New 2DS XL. Bethesda also teases some new games for E3 and Burnout creators are working on a new game. Finally, our last segment features a very special interview with the Creative Director of Giant Sparrow, Ian Dallas. Ian and his team created the popular game we reviewed last week "What Remains of Edith Finch." In this interview we delve deep into the story of the game, how the short story idea came to be, early influences for the game and much more about Ian and his design philosophies in general. It's a very wide spread interview that covers a lot of great content. If you like it, please share with your friends!
