Wellington-based start-up OpenStar is looking to make changes in the world of clean energy, and they've gotten financial support from the Government. They've successfully levitated a half tonne superconducting magnet, confining a cloud of ultra-hot plasma - which will help ultimately produce carbon-free energy. About 40 jobs are on offer for those willing to brave sub-zero temperatures and work in one of the most remote places on earth. Antarctica New Zealand has launched a nation‑wide recruitment drive, inviting people across Aotearoa to work at Scott Base in Antarctica for the 2026/27 research season. Winter Leader Stuart Kininmonth told Matt and Tyler that, "everyone that's listening could probably be involved." The honesty box - a small stall where Kiwi farmers can sell their produce - has been a road trip tradition, but there's been an uptick in thieves. Farmers and residents have voiced outrage as thieves have been taking money and products away from the stalls, and people are fed up. The Government has ditched the idea of a referendum on a four year electoral term this election. Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith says a bill has been taken to select committee as part of coalition agreements. But he says to have a referendum would require passing the bill through the rest of the stages in enough time before the election. Goldsmith says the Government can't do everything at once, and taking care of more pressing issues, like crime, is more important at this stage. There's calls from experts, concerned citizens and politicians alike over whether animal control has enough powers and resources to lock animals up. A woman was mauled to death by dogs at a Kaihu home yesterday morning. SPCA senior scientific officer Alison Vaughan says the current laws are out of date, and a review is needed - plus additional funding. There's growing calls for additional regulations around feral dogs - and a recent attack has sparked renewed debate. A woman was killed in Northland's Kaihu yesterday by dogs, and the attack has prompted concern and outrage. NZ First MP Shane Jones says the character of the owners involved is more feral, and there needs to be a no-tolerance policy. "What else do we need to happen, before we as a community - quite apart from the politicians - move in and do what my dad used to do? If you have a stray, feral dog, it got shot." Data from Xero shows 75 percent of the New Zealand small business owners surveyed say the current financial year has been more stressful than past years. The Government's removing the full license test as part of major changes - saying it will save time and money. Drivers under 25 will spend a year on their restricted before moving to their full, while over 25s will get six months. A zero alcohol limit will apply to people on their learners' or restricted, regardless of their age. Most changes will come into effect next year. A new report by Outward Bound reveals young Kiwis are feeling less optimistic about the future than ever, with a majority believing the world is on a downward trajectory. The report shows over a quarter of young people have 'little to no confidence' and one in four young men report having zero close friends.
