The attack happened in March 2024 and left the child with serious head injuries. Troopers said McKinney and Johnson lied about the dog that attacked the baby being a stray when it was actually Joe's dog. A pitbull launched itself from a moving vehicle and stormed into an Auckland jewellery store, injuring an employee during the incident. Auckland Council confirmed the owner was given an infringement notice and education on dog control after the attack. Stacey Penn says the punishment for the owner 'wasn't fair' and further consequences are needed. "The fact that she's already been warned previously and still chose to drive around with her dog in her car - she'd been told to muzzle it and didn't muzzle it. Auckland Council's cracking down on dog owners in a bid to lower a surge in attacks. It's made more than 611 prosecutions since 2020, targeting owners with dogs that have seriously injured people or other animals. Nearly three thousand dog attacks and more than 15 thousand cases of roaming dogs have been reported in Auckland over the last financial year. Jo Clough, Director of The Dog Safe Workplace, told Kerre Woodham New Zealand needs a mandatory dog bite reporting system, as without one the true cost and extent of injuries won't be known. She says that education is the best way to mitigate damage, ensuring that people who have no choice but to go into spaces with dogs have the processes to keep themselves safe. Farmers and rural pet owners are once again being urged to take control of their dogs following a vicious attack in East Clare. It follows an incident in O'Callaghan's Mills in which a number of sheep suffered serious injuries. The dog responsible is yet to be identified and owners in the area are requested to be extra vigilant. Clare County Dog Warden Frankie Coote says it was an extremely distressing incident.

Clare's County Dog Warden is urging dog owners to control their pets following a violent incident in Kilrush this week. It's understood a labrador-greygound cross attacked and killed a smaller dog while biting a woman who attempted to rescue her pet. The attacking dog has since been destroyed and Gardaí are believed to be investigating the incident. Frankie Coote insists the only ways to exercise control over a dog are to keep it at home or to have it on a lead.

A Cleveland mother was sentenced to up to 23 years in prison after handcuffing her six-year-old son, who was then mauled by a pit bull in Savannah. An elderly person has been hospitalised with serious injuries following an attack by a German Shepherd in Newmarket on Fergus. The Clare County Dog Warden has confirmed the person suffered multiple bites causing extensive damage which may require surgery. In a separate incident in Newmarket, a young girl was injured when also bitten by a German Shepherd, while a woman walking on the grounds of the University of Limerick suffered bites from a brown Bull Terrier. Frankie Coote says the Bull Terrier in question is still not contained and is advising people to exercise caution on the Clare side of the campus and contact him with information on any sightings.

The Far North District Council has issued a warning after a string of dog attacks in the region. An 8-year-old girl was hospitalised after being attacked by a dog on Wednesday at summer hotspot Taipā Beach - prompting calls for a solution. Far North Mayor Moko Tepania says dog owners need to handle their pets responsibly to prevent similar incidents. "If you have a dog in the Far North, you make sure that you are looking after it properly and that it can't get out. You make sure that it's registered." Dr. Russell is the Defense Expert Witness and is being questioned by both the Defense and the Prosecution to see if the testimony should come into the Re-Trial. Dr. Russell explained why she thinks the marks on John O'Keefe are specifically from a dog attack which is different than what she said on the stand in the first trial when she said it might be from a dog bite. The Prosecution was not done questioning Dr. Russell but it was time for court to end. It is scheduled to resume on Jan 7th, 2025, at 9am ET.A Daubert Hearing is used to challenge an expert witness. The Judge acts as the gatekeeper of the evidence when determining if there is sufficient reliability for admissibility under FRE 702.
