On today's episode of Masters of MAX, it's time to shake things up a bit and look at the world of mobile from a different angle. We've heard from marketing leaders as they share the brand power apps bring to the table, but we want to dig deeper into the app design itself. Joining to help us uncover more of the behind the scenes is Hao Xie, Senior App Designer at Booking.com, one of the world's largest travel marketplaces, mediating between hotels, guesthouses, vacation rentals, and their guests. Hao has been with Booking.com for over a year, being brought on to build the native app experience for the Attraction offering.Hear as Hao and Tom discuss how crucial accessibility is to the mobile experience as it opens the door to millions of users who otherwise would be shut out. An often overlooked aspect of the design process, accessibility impacts everyone, not just those of differing abilities. Hao provides real world examples of inclusive features the team at Booking.com employs to create a more holistic experience. Additionally, Hao shares a few stories from his time at KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. He describes how he and his team were able to get live customer feedback immediately after piloting new features. How? Because they left their desks and asked passengers for their opinions as they waited to board their flights. —Guest BioHao Xie is an app design enthusiast with experience in diverse industries including agency, global brands, and tech. He has led transformative design projects for Air France's and KLM's apps, improved the core funnel of the Adidas consumer app with measurable results, and is now creating the foundation of a native app experience for attractions at Booking.com from scratch. —Guest Quote"Accessibility matters in so many, many ways. Especially at Booking.com, our brand mission is to make it easier for everyone to experience the world. And there's a word in this sentence, which is everyone. In this week's episode of Fostering Change Rob Scheer talks with Marcy Bursac, Adoptive Mom, Author, Podcast Host, and App Designer. Foster care adoption was Marcy's Plan A. She and her husband adopted a biological sibling pair. While remote schooling her children during the pandemic, Marcy began to see a gap between adults with a desire to adopt and the 115,000 adoptable children within the United States. With a heart for those children and a deep desire to take action, Marcy wrote a book, The Forgotten Adoption Option: A How-To and Self-Reflection Guide for Pursuing Foster Care Adoption, and launched a podcast, The Forgotten Adoption Option Podcast. After winning the People's Choice Award and placing in the Top 16 at the 2022 United States of America's Mrs. pageant, Marcy created an app (The Forgotten Adoption Option App) to teach 25,000 adoptive families how to get licensed to adopt through foster care.Story Key Notes:

(Seth - Web/App Designer) In this episode, I had the honour to have Seth as my guest. He shared with me his interest in web and app designing as his hobby. Definition: A computer programmer, sometimes called a software developer, a programmer or more recently a coder (especially in more informal contexts), is a person who creates computer software. The term computer programmer can refer to a specialist in one area of computers or to a generalist who writes computer programs. A programmer's most often-used computer language (e.g., Assembly, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Lisp, Python, Java) may be prefixed to the term programmer. Some who work with web programming languages also prefix their titles with web. Wikipedia contributors. (2022, January 21). Programmer. In Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia. Act 2 opens with Robert Raymond Riopel reflecting on the story of how the biography of Steve Jobs came to be written, and key data the author revealed that shed light on the path of Robert's own development. Robert discusses practices of setting ego aside when he and his team deliver and receive feedback, leveraging empathy, compassion and “brutal, honest truth” at the same time. Digging deep into his experience with communication and relationships, Robert shares an important practice of listening. We riff back and forth on the challenges of setting solutions aside to stay present, and we touch on some myths about patience and the time it takes to develop real competence. Robert brings his wife, Roxanne, and her box-busting perspectives back into the conversation, bringing us full-circle before we wrap this wickedly fun conversation!Robert Raymond Riopel is an international Best-Selling author, App Designer, Entrepreneur and Trainer who has spent the past 18+ years travelling around the world sharing his passion. Robert Raymond Riopel opens Act 1 laying out the dimensions of “the box” he grew up with, including the limited options of “work for the post office or in the oil fields” to provide for your family. At 21, he found himself the “old guy,” delivering pizzas seven days a week.Faced with losing their gig, Robert and his wife, Roxanne, worked though months of challenges – including having very little money – to buy out the franchise pizza shops they were working in.His wife, who was raised to seek out “box-free” perspectives, had a powerful influence, helping Robert overcome his early, conditioned, “follow the rules” limitations. As he says, “The instructions for getting out of the box – are outside the box!” Citing the training he offers around the world, Robert points to the universality of limiting messages and the “play small” programming that keeps people stuck. He contrasts those messages with the teaching he received from his mentors, who encouraged him to surround himself with visionary, forward-moving folk. Robert rewinds his story, looping back to his experience of spending more than he was earning, landing in debt to the tune of over $150,000, “and stressed out beyond belief.” A well-timed seminar and taking ownership and responsibility for their financial practices set Robert and his wife up to clear their debt in nine months – and set them on a track of deep learning and growth. We wrap Act 1 with a rich conversation about energetic awareness, (no spoilers!) including a look at masculine and feminine energies as they present in relationships… And a reminder that speed ain't one's friend, practice makes all the difference, why the Michael Jordan model works, and why comparison doesn't.Robert Raymond Riopel is an international Best-Selling author, App Designer, Entrepreneur and Trainer who has spent the past 18+ years travelling around the world sharing his passion.
