#186 - What if the deepest calm you've ever felt could follow you out of the water and into everyday life? That's the spark of our conversation with Kerry Ferguson, founder of Yoga Tree, whose path from free diving to yoga reveals how breath, mindfulness, and compassion can reshape how we move through the world. We trace Kerry's arc from early wellness choices and Outward Bound grit to anatomy labs, massage rooms, and a turning point in the Bahamas where breath control under pressure became a doorway to peace. Back in Tennessee, she helped a community discover yoga as sanctuary, even holding space on a day of national grief. Kerry shares a clear, practical technique—sit tall, breathe through the nose, expand the belly on inhale, and extend exhale to twice the length—to quiet anxiety and teach the nervous system to trust you again. Her approach demystifies meditation, inviting you to watch thoughts like clouds until the sky clears.Travel is a thread that binds it all together. Kerry leads mindful retreats in Greece and beyond, where mornings begin on the mat and days unfold with local food, culture, and unhurried conversations. These aren't just vacations; they're immersive practices in presence, from family-run kitchens to sunset meditations. We also dig into yoga's evolution in the West—why the pendulum swung toward fitness and why many are now returning to philosophy, chanting, and stillness. Kerry's stories, including a powerful moment from a silent retreat in Dharamshala, remind us that our quiet can steady someone else's storm. If you're seeking anxiety relief, mind-body tools, or a more intentional way to travel, this conversation will meet you where you are and nudge you toward where you want to be. Listen, breathe with us, and if it resonates, share the episode, subscribe, and leave a review so more people can find their way back to calm.To learn more about Kerry and Yoga Tree check out her website www.myyogatree.com and give her a follow on Instagram @myyogatree.Want to be a guest on Journey with Jake? This week was a catch up week where I gave the rundown of the past month plus all the things going on and how this Marathon training is grinding me to a pulp. In this episode Will speaks with Somerville Johnston, co-founder of Bright Shadow, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people navigate grief and loss through nature-based retreats and community support. Somerville shares how her background in Outward Bound, somatic therapy, and adventure programs led to the creation of Bright Shadow, which began with grief retreats for whitewater kayakers and has since expanded to serve a wider community. Together, Will and Somerville explore the power of the outdoors to hold grief, foster connection, and invite healing. They discuss the unique ways Bright Shadow blends ceremony, play, and somatic practices in natural settings to create safe spaces where participants can process loss—whether from the death of loved ones, natural disasters, or changes in cherished outdoor landscapes. This conversation highlights how community, nature, and nonprofit efforts like Bright Shadow can transform the experience of grief into opportunities for renewal, resilience, and deeper connection. In this episode, Sarah delves into the integration of scientific principles with spiritual practices in nature-based education, highlighting a holistic approach that nurtures both mind and soul. She discusses how scientific research informs our understanding of developmental stages from childhood to adulthood, complementing spiritual growth. Nature is portrayed as a bridge between scientific inquiry and spiritual exploration, offering transformative experiences. Sarah explains how combining scientific insights with spiritual practices can turn life's challenges into opportunities for self-understanding. The episode also explores the role of mindfulness and meditation in development, supported by scientific findings. Furthermore, Sarah emphasizes the enhancement of community through a dual lens of science and spirituality in education. Practical advice is offered for incorporating these elements into nature-based learning. Finally, Sarah shares promising new discoveries and practices that point towards the future of nature-based education.Meet Sarah: Sarah was born in Boston in 1954 between two hurricanes. In third grade, inspired by her teacher Mrs. Wamsley, Sarah won a prize at her school for a bird's nest collection. Her family lived in the forest in Dover, Massachusetts, next to the 1,200 acre Hale Reservation which, rain or shine, was her playground and sanctuary. In addition Sarah's grandparents had a summer home on Narragansett Bay where she roamed freely, feet cut by barnacles, eyes stinging with salt water, hundreds of sunburns, ticks and poison ivy, Sarah loved it all.Sarah sailed across the Atlantic at age 17, then took to the mountains as an instructor for NOLS and Outward Bound. Her inherited skills as a teacher blended with her love for the outdoors as she made her way across the American West and Alaska taking students of all ages into the alchemical opportunity that nature based adventure, and education, provides. In 1976 Sarah was couch surfing in Lander Wyoming, waiting for winter to pass so she could get back out into the field with a paycheck. To pay her bills, Sarah took a paid training course at the local hospital to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. A kind and competent RN took Sarah under her wing and encouraged her to consider nursing school. Sarah graduated in 1979 as an RN. Her love for nature merged with the health sciences as she stepped into the best career she can imagine. In her 46 year career as an RN Sarah has worked in rural healthcare clinics, regional hospitals, schools and third world countries. She has worked as a midwife, ER Nurse and Critical Care Nurse and everything in between. Raising three children and 12 hour hospital shifts was a recipe for burn out. This is when Sarah found yoga as a potent stress management tool. Yoga led her to its sister science, Ayurveda, the oldest healthcare system on the planet. Sarah now combines modern medicine with the time tested wisdom and science of Ayurveda to teach deep wellness. Deep wellness is a protective state of body, mind and soul that can be present even when we are challenged by poor health and aging. She is a multi-certified yoga, Ayurveda and meditation teacher, Enneagram Coach and grandmother to three adventuresome growing children. She lives on the skirt of a mountain in Western Colorado with thousands of acres of National Forest a few miles up the road. Charles “Chuck” Luckmann purchased his first canoe for $75 at eleven years of age, which launched a passion for rivers that has never waned. During a forty-five-year career in education, he taught at nine schools in four countries, including COBWS from 1979–1982, where he spent summers at Homeplace and winters in the Toronto office. On this episode of Nature Revisited, Luckmann describes the unusual history of the Canadian Outward Bound Wilderness School (COBWS), the adventurous and challenging offerings at the school, and the culmination of a remarkable collection of more than 50 eclectic essays that would become Carry The Flame. In this detailed memoir, former staff, administrators, board members, and students articulate the distinctive, unique spirit of the school and its lasting impact on their lives to this day. This week on The Worthwild Podcast, I sit down with Katie T to talk all things self-worth, healing, and growth. Katie shares her journey moving from England to Ireland and then all the way to New Zealand, and the lessons she's learned about belonging, people-pleasing, and finding her own voice along the way. After an unhealthy relationship left her feeling disconnected, Katie chose to rediscover herself. That's when she found spaces like Lighthouse, where she began leaning into vulnerability, self-awareness, and self-love. We talk about how healing isn't a finish line but a daily choice, the magic of small joys and gratitude, and what it actually means to choose yourself (spoiler: it's never the wrong choice). Katie also shares her experience with Outward Bound and how stepping outside your comfort zone can help you meet yourself in new ways. This is an honest, hopeful, and heart-filled conversation that reminds us that every part of who we are is worthy of compassion.
In this episode of Success Is Subjective, drama therapist and trauma specialist Maya Kruger invites us into a story shaped by creativity, resilience, and a life-altering turning point. Raised in Israel by academic parents, Maya felt caught between expectations and her love for theater—until an unexpected event in her final year of high school changed everything. What followed was a journey through military service, an Outward Bound program in Colorado, and a leap of faith into NYU's drama therapy program. Along the way, Maya discovered that true impact doesn't require a spotlight—it requires presence, compassion, and emotional courage. Now a licensed therapist and mother of two, she blends artistry and trauma work to help others navigate their own breaking points. This conversation is a testament to the quiet power of reinvention and the many ways we define success beyond the stage.Maya's Resources:WebsiteInstagramOutward Bound Connect with Joanna Lilley Therapeutic Consulting AssociationLilley Consulting WebsiteLilley Consulting on Facebook Lilley Consulting on YouTubeEmail joanna@lilleyconsulting.com#TherapeuticConsulting #LilleyConsulting #Successful #TherapeuticPrograms #Therapy #MentalHealthMatters #Podcast #PodcastCommunity #TheJourney #SuccessIsSubjectivePodcast #TheUnpavedRoad #PFCAudioVideo #TraumaRecovery #TherapyJourney #Healing #MayaKrugerTherapy #PersonalGrowth #TherapyWorks
Wait… you don't need glitter glue to be creative? Surprise! In this episode of Dancing in the Discomfort Zone, I chat with Dr. Amy Climer —facilitator, speaker, and author of Deliberate Creative Teams—who's on a mission to bust the myth that creativity is reserved for “artsy” people.Amy drops some serious (and seriously fun) wisdom about how to build team creativity on purpose—not just cross your fingers and hope for an idea to magically pop out during a chaotic Zoom call. She breaks down:
He's been a member of the NZSAS – New Zealand's elite special forces unit - and is now an America's Cup-winning grinder with Emirates Team New Zealand. In this episode we talk about what it takes to pass SAS selection, his insane physical feats (including breaking NZ's 500m indoor rowing record), how he emailed his way into Team New Zealand, what it's like grinding in the cyclor cockpit, the pressures of running the team's comms systems, and how he balances it all with being a father of three. We also hear about his time managing MIQ during Covid, a wild story about “Goose Eggs”, and his new project - “The Forge” - an intense personal development course that sounds like Outward Bound on steroids. This was a quietly extraordinary chat. Marius isn't someone who loves the spotlight, but the more we heard, the more impressed we were - and it sounds like everyone who's worked with him feels the same. This episode is brought to you by the TAB. In this episode of the Loco Experience Podcast, I sit down with Joe and Melissa Basta, co-founders of Tellus, an outdoor apparel brand (and social enterprise) based in Fort Collins. They share their founding story, focusing on their commitment to sustainability using recycled or organic materials and donating 100% of their net profits to environmental initiatives. Melissa explains her role in overseeing marketing and the company's give-back programs, while Joe discusses his background in Outward Bound and Peace Corps, which influenced their company's mission and values. They discuss the challenges and successes of launching their flagship store in Fort Collins. Tellus was seeded with funds from the sale of a previous business, Rodelle, which Joe developed into a vertically integrated vanilla extract business, connecting hundreds of farmers in Madagascar with millions of shoppers in Costco and Trader Joe's.The conversation also delves into their personal lives, including their mutual “early life crises” that led them to meet in the Peace Corps, their family dynamics and children, and how they balance their professional and personal lives. Joe and Melissa emphasize the importance of experiences, travel, and flexibility for young people figuring out their career and life journey, and the episode wraps up with a thoughtful discussion on the future of their business and their commitment to making a positive impact on the planet. They've got great gear, a wonderful mission, and strong conversation skills, and I know you'll enjoy getting to know my latest guests, Joe & Melissa Basta. In this episode Will welcomes Steve Smith, founder of Experiential Consulting and a 30-year veteran in the outdoor education and risk management field. Steve shares his journey from classroom teacher to mountaineering instructor and eventually leading national conversations on risk through roles with Outward Bound, the Student Conservation Association, and the Wilderness Risk Management Conference. Throughout the episode, Steve explains how his thinking has evolved from linear, blame-based models of incident response to a systems-based, learning-focused philosophy that emphasizes psychological safety, continuous improvement, and shared responsibility in outdoor programs. Steve also shares a powerful and personal story of a near-death mountaineering accident that profoundly impacted his mental health—and eventually became a catalyst for change in how he views vulnerability, risk, and leadership. His transparency about the emotional aftermath and his later work to warn others about the recurring hazard at Asgard Pass highlight the importance of learning from both success and failure. This episode is essential listening for anyone in outdoor education, wilderness therapy, or a parent concerned about the safety of outdoor programs. It offers both philosophical depth and practical insights into how programs can navigate risk without sacrificing meaningful adventure. Matt Walker MA, is a dedicated men's psychologist and international mountain guide based in Washington, USA. With a mission to help men navigate mid-life challenges, Matt empowers his clients to define success, align their values with actions, and live unapologetically. Through 1:1 coaching, group programs, immersive retreats, and transformative climbing expeditions, Matt creates opportunities for growth, adventure, and community. His work is rooted in fostering clarity, boldness, and a life lived in alignment with personal values. Matt lives in a mountain town in Washington State with his two children and balances parenting with a full workload which includes coaching individual and groups, leading climbing expeditions both professionally and personally Matt Walker Vroom Vroom Veer Show Summary Matt's Balancing Act and Life Shifts Matt discusses his work as both a mountain guide and a psychologist, supporting men through major life transitions. He is excited about the balance in his calendar between traditional coaching and field work in the mountains. Matt mentions he has a new book coming out after a 10-year publishing hiatus. He also reflects on how his values and priorities have shifted with age, emphasizing the importance of embracing these changes rather than judging oneself based on past expectations. Skepticism and the Shaping of Belief Matt and Jeffery discuss their approaches to knowledge and belief. Jeffery describes himself as highly skeptical, avoiding absolute certainty and viewing most things on a spectrum of probability. Matt agrees with this perspective, sharing an example from a memoir that acknowledged multiple viewpoints of the same experience. They discuss the unreliability of memory and the impact of mentors and teachers in shaping their worldviews. Matt reflects on how early influences expanded his understanding of career possibilities beyond his suburban upbringing. Mountain Climbing and Post-Military Life Matt shares his experience of moving from Northern New Jersey to Washington State after high school, motivated by his desire to be in the mountains following an Outward Bound course. He became involved in the climbing community, joining a group of experienced climbers and participating in significant expeditions. Matt later pursued a degree in philosophy but ultimately worked as a full-time mountain guide, leading international expeditions including the Seven Summits. Jeffery, in contrast, completed a bachelor's degree in psychology using his GI Bill after retiring from the Air Force, but chose not to pursue a career in that field. Matt's Approach to Existential Crises Matt discusses his approach to helping clients who are experiencing existential crises. He explains that he combines his background in psychology with outdoor experiences, particularly mountain climbing, to create a more effective therapeutic environment. Matt emphasizes the importance of having a guide during these experiences, comparing it to psychedelic journeys with proper set and setting. He notes that the most powerful moments for clarity and transformation occur during the descent from a summit, before transitioning back to everyday life. Matt sees his role as a supportive guide rather than actively doing the work for his clients. Challenging Experiences and Personal Growth Matt and Jeffery discuss the transformative power of challenging experiences, particularly in the context of personal growth and self-awareness. They explore how these experiences can lead to clarity, alignment between values and actions, and a sense of awakening. Jeffery shares his recent experience with a meditation app called "Way App," which he finds more effective than typical meditation apps due to its foundation in authentic Zen practices. They both agree that consistent, thoughtful practice can lead to gradual but meaningful increases in awareness and personal growth.

In this episode of The Admittedly Podcast, host Thomas Caleel takes a break from the usual admissions talk to share six inspiring success stories that prove there's no single path to college admissions success. These students faced unique challenges—limited resources, late-changing interests, international barriers—but found creative ways to stand out. Their journeys highlight the power of reframing experiences, seeking the right opportunities, and crafting compelling personal stories. Success Stories: Andie: A student from a middle-class, single-parent home who worked after school instead of doing traditional extracurriculars. By reframing her story, she leveraged her experience into a successful application to Wharton and is now a highly successful graduate. Susan: An artist passionate about architecture, Susan used local resources and an international nonprofit to build a strong application—earning close to $1 million in scholarships and admission to top architecture programs. Bob: An international student passionate about environmental science, Bob found a hands-on path outside the lab with Outward Bound and the U.S. Forest Service, leading him to NYU and a unique blend of fieldwork and academics. James: A boarding school student with an unimpressive resume transformed his passion for healthcare and technology into impactful telehealth advocacy, influencing state laws and earning a spot at Penn—now pursuing a PhD in the Ivy League. Alice: A high-achieving student in Hong Kong's top school shifted from STEM to social sciences, leading impactful work on period poverty in Cambodia. Her advocacy work helped her stand out and become the only student from her school admitted early to an Ivy League. Alex: A sophomore passionate about real estate and fluent in Japanese, Alex found an internship in Japan with Admittedly's guidance. His experience set him apart and helped him gain admission into Wharton's Huntsman Program. With over 8 million applications submitted through the Common App this year, standing out requires more than just strong academics—it demands a compelling personal story. These students prove that by embracing their unique interests, seeking out meaningful opportunities, and telling authentic stories, they were able to beat the odds and gain admission to top universities. Follow Thomas on Instagram and TikTok at @admittedlyco for more insights and updates! Visit www.admittedly.co to discover how Admittedly can support you in your college admissions journey.
Show Notes:Angela's Links:https://alpinist007.com/ (personal website)Angela Hawse takes helm of American Mountain Guides Association board as group leans on women to foster change in guiding cultureEpisode Intro:Dear listeners of the Female Guides Requested Podcast, happy Wednesday. This is your host Ting Ting from Las Vegas. Today our guest is Angela Hawse.Angela was the 6th woman in the U.S. to become an IFMGA mountain guide with a successful career spanning over three decades. She's trained and examined aspiring guides for the AMGA for the past 19 years and served as the AMGA president for five. Angela's led over 30 high altitude mountaineering expeditions to the world's Greater Ranges and guided remote trips to the Arctic and Antarctic. She skied from Sweden to Norway across Lapland, reached the South Summit of Mt. Everest (500' higher than K2) and has led numerous technical all-women's ascents. She's currently on the board of the IFMGA and the 1st woman and non-European to join the Technical Commission. Angela has a Master's Degree in International Mountain Conservation, is on the POW Alliance Team and a Black Diamond athlete. In 2011 she was awarded AMGA Guide of the Year and in 2022 received the AMGA Lifetime Achievement in Guiding Award.I love that she considers herself successful in mountain guiding because she still loves the profession and is still in it for the same reason that she got into it initially. She established a lifelong love of playing in the mountains since she was a kid. Her curiosity let her explore all facets of life related to guiding, and she hardly found boredom. Evan Sibley performs Lewis Robinson's audiobook with narrative drive, a convincing tone, and a sure sense of the unfolding drama. The setting is a posh but remote club on fictional Whaleback Island—just the place to retrain young misfits to work hard on land and sea to please the billionaires who have founded this Outward-Bound-style experience to fight against the “soft” youths of today. Anna Switzer, PhD, outdoor educator, science educator, and educator of educators, shares her Hoffman Process experience and her deep expertise in partnering with Nature's innate processes for healing and connection. In 2012, on the recommendation of her medical doctor, Anna came to the Process. Due to the high level of stress Anna was experiencing, her doctor said she should consider doing some emotional work. Within a few months, Anna was at the Hoffman Process. She loved the camaraderie of her Process cohort and remembers many 'anchor moments' in her group and alone as she spent time outdoors on the grounds around White Sulphur Springs. Anna's mission statement is, "Helping heal the human spirit and natural world through facilitation of mutually positive experiences between the two." The focus of her work is to try to bring herself and others back into "right relationship" with the natural world. Anna shares some practical practices you can use to help heal your relationship with the natural world. We hope you enjoy this rich and healing conversation with Anna and Liz. More about Anna Switzer, PhD: Anna Switzer, PhD is an outdoor educator, science educator, and educator of educators. She holds a bachelor's degree in Physics, a master's in Oceanography, and a PhD in Education. Alongside teaching, Anna derives her most consistent inspiration from the outdoors. She has spent thousands of hours exploring diverse landscapes and waterways; including incalculable time with students of all ages. Anna has worked for several prominent organizations including National Geographic Society and Outward Bound. At National Geographic, she was the Program Manager for Outdoor and Experiential Education. She is also certified as a Nature-Connected Life Coach. Anna's mission relates to helping heal the human spirit and the natural world through the facilitation of mutually positive experiences between the two and creating and utilizing tools for reflection that invite new behavior. Anna loves sharing life-enhancing ideas, tools, and practices with others. Her first book is License to Learn: Elevating Discomfort in Service of Lifelong Learning (Atmosphere Press, 2021). She is writing a second book now that includes a big portion on the processes of nature connection: a big topic in this interview. In the opening episode of Season 21, host Will White delves into the significant transformations occurring within the wilderness therapy field for adolescents and young adults, paralleling them with the impacts of climate change on our environment. He reflects on the "Great Collapse" between 2007 and 2010, when the number of wilderness therapy programs dramatically decreased due to economic pressures from the Great Recession. Drawing striking parallels to recent events, Will discusses how the closure of seven wilderness therapy programs in the last two years mirrors that earlier contraction, signaling a new period of challenge and change in the field. He also explores how these challenges echo those faced by longstanding outdoor organizations like the Boy Scouts of America, NOLS, and Outward Bound, highlighting how declining enrollments, controversies and technology have impacted the broader outdoor experiential field. Despite challenges like increased operational risks, changing market demands, and heightened public scrutiny, some programs have demonstrated remarkable resilience and continue to adapt to the evolving landscape. Will announces that this season will feature interviews with leaders from enduring programs to explore how they've navigated these challenges and what they envision for the future of outdoor behavioral healthcare. Emphasizing the importance of stepping away from screens and engaging with the real world, he encourages listeners to embrace the outdoors as a powerful platform for mental health treatment. The episode sets the stage for a season focused on adaptation, resilience, and the ongoing impact of wilderness therapy on young lives.

Christy Brodeur (Project Adventure) and Chris Damboise (High 5) join Phil to discuss the lesser known history of challenge courses. The discussion covers the contributions of Georges Hébert, Yvonne Moreau, the development of obstacle courses, and the integration of challenge courses into Outward Bound and Project Adventure. The conversation also touches on the role of women in the history of challenge courses and the transition from military-focused training to educational and team development purposes. The guests highlight the importance of understanding the historical context and origins of challenge courses in order to have meaningful discussions about accessibility and diversity in the field. It discusses how challenge courses were initially developed as a way to prepare soldiers for war and how they later transitioned into educational and recreational settings. The conversation also touches on the commercialization of challenge courses and the need for practitioners to be intentional and inclusive in their approach. The key themes include the historical context of challenge courses, the impact of culture and community, and the importance of accessibility and inclusivity. Challenge courses have their origins in military training and physical fitness, specifically in the French military and the experiences of Georges Hébert. The development of challenge courses involved the transformation of military training methods into educational and team development tools. The history of challenge courses includes the contributions of women, although their roles have often been overlooked or minimized. Understanding the historical context and origins of challenge courses is important for discussions about accessibility and diversity in the field. Challenge courses have their roots in military training and the Outward Bound model, which incorporated service projects as part of the experience. The development of challenge courses was influenced by the need to prepare soldiers for war and the realization that traditional sports alone were not sufficient for combat readiness. Challenge courses have evolved to be used in educational and recreational settings, but it is important for practitioners to be intentional and inclusive in their approach. The commercialization of challenge courses has led to a pay-to-play model, which can limit access for certain communities. Efforts should be made to make challenge courses more accessible and culturally relevant. Sarah Dale's love of nature and experiences in the wilds of Montana are what started her wish to get other corporate women to build their own badassery and confidence by learning outdoor skills. She moved from New York City to Montana after a solo vacation to Big Sky. Sarah started Project 1490 to provide the opportunity not only for women to have a unique, outdoor experience that helps them go beyond who they think they are, but they can also build their corporate networks and confidence and have a ton of fun in the process. Women who attend "go beyond themselves, reconnect with nature and return to their lives with a new sense of who they were and what they were capable of." Project 1490 has an upcoming retreat in the Berkshires that will include leadership content, and expert negotiation skill speaker, wilderness survival skill training and, of course, a party. Project 1490 also hosts "Days of Badassery," some of which are open to nonmembers. You can learn more about their offerings at Project1490.com. Sarah has had an impressive career. It's a shame that two of the nicest people you can meet at the Leadville Trail 100 also happen to be the ones you want the least to meet. You see, Sandy and Mike Monahan are the race's cutoff queen and king. If you are pushing the time cutoffs at each aid station, they will do their best to move you through and on to the next one. But if you are too late getting there, they will kindly and gently deliver the news that your raceday has ended. You couldn't ask for better people to handle this difficult job, and that is what makes them an integral part of the Leadville Family. I've been there several times on both sides of the cutoff ledger, which may be why in the years I have volunteered, Sandy has sometimes recruited me to assist her. I got to know them particularly well in 2015, when I was the so-called Last Ass Up the Pass, the DFL, or dead f*@king last finisher. Due to coming back from surgery for a ruptured quad that prior fall and some other unique circumstances, from the time I arrived at Twin Lakes inbound, I was within four minutes of the cutoff at every aid station the rest of the way. A very stressful position to be in, but the Monahans kept me moving along so that I did make it to the finish with only two minutes to spare, in 29:58! Once again this year, at Outward Bound and Half Pipe, there were Mike and Sandy pushing me along as I teetered ahead of those cutoffs. But the couple has meant a lot more to the race, going all the way back to the early days when Mike was a racer, and Sandy helped race co-founder Merilee computerize the records from the old handwritten ones prior to then. Cole Chlouber devoted an entire chapter to them in his new book, Grit, Guts, and Determination. Mike and Sandy share some great stories that I am sure you will enjoy in this episode, recorded on the eve of this year's race, which they generously agreed to do, get this, on their 50th wedding anniversary!Bill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @coachstahlYouTube We Are Superman Podcast

Today I am so ridiculously excited to be talking to Lia Lucine and Nicki Ripple, two of the three women behind a film project that is unfolding right now, somewhere off the coast of Maine - it's called Beyond the Compass, and is documenting a group of women in their 60s, 70s, and 80s who are on a four-day Outward Bound sailing expedition.According to Nicki and Lia, ”this short film will chronicle the journey of an all-women crew on Outward Bound Hurricane Island's Women over 65 sailing course - emphasizing their resilience through challenge and adventure, as well as the practice of enjoying life at any age. While mainstream media often underscores the importance of enjoying youth, these women serve as a reminder that while advancing in age presents its own difficulties, it does not preclude a fulfilling life.”PREACH! Obviously as someone knocking on the door of 60 (albeit as gently as possible at this point), I am over the moon at the idea of these every-women's stories being highlighted as they navigate the physical, mental and emotional challenges of this multi-day adventure. So let's get this documentary onto the big screen already! You can support the production of Beyond the Compass at https://gofund.me/587bfc42 - make a donation, then tell your inspiring-story-loving-friends to do the same. And bonus points, if you work for a brand or organization that plays in outdoor spaces, let your colleagues know about this awesome film, and maybe YOU will be the reason Beyond the Compass gets the huge corporate underwriter it needs to tear up the outdoor film festival circuit in 2025!Links to learn more:Lia Lucine on Instagram: @lialucine (https://www.instagram.com/lialucine/)Nicki Ripple on Instagram: @nicki.ripple ( https://www.instagram.com/nicki.ripple/)Go Fund Me site for Beyond the Compass: https://gofund.me/587bfc42Short 2019 Maine Public piece about the Burnt Island sailing program Hurricane Island Outward Bound School (ME)Learn more about Burnt Island (ME)
