A three-time guest this year, Cole Horton returns to the podcast to discuss his latest contribution to the galaxy far, far away in The Star Wars Book. From DK Publishing (thanks for the review copy!), this new Star Wars reference book is not your typical DK offering - instead of the short summaries and factoid captions, this one features long-form essays that allowed Horton (along with co-authors Pablo Hidalgo and Dan Zehr) to really dig into their topics and explore deeper themes across Star Wars storytelling. Today, I'm sharing the first half of my conversation with Cole. Punch it! ***I'm listener supported! We talked about the Traveler's Guide to Batuu earlier this week, and I'm thrilled to have its author, Eloc Throno - aka Cole Horton - back on the show to talk about the making of this vital Galaxy's Edge resource. The Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Traveler's Guide to Batuu is essential reading for anyone who hopes to go to the Star Wars land at Disneyland or Walt Disney World one day - and connects to Star Wars storytelling as well. On today's show, I'll share more details from the book and its author, "Eloc Throno" - a thinly-veiled anagram for Star Wars reference book writer extraordinaire Cole Horton - including how the in-universe aspect affects the way information is presented; the spot on the timeline where the Galaxy's Edge experience exists; connections to other Star Wars stories; and more. Thanks to Becker&mayer! for sending me a digital review copy to check out! I have to say, when I first heard about Star Wars: Book of Lists, I thought it was going to be a fun read, and good trivia fodder, but also exactly what its title promised - a book of lists. When I actually got to check it out, though, I realized how mistaken I was. Cole Horton, who's written and co-written a dozen or so encyclopedic Star Wars reference books, brought all of those skills to the table when creating this book as well. Coming in at 224 pages, sure, you could just skim it for the 100 lists and you'd enjoy it. But the descriptive information included with those lists is what really makes the book a valuable addition to your Star Wars non-fiction shelf. On today's episode, I'll talk about all of that, and share one of my favorite lists in the book - which, ironically, doesn't come with the descriptive, but is actually all the better because of the choice to make it an exception to the rule. It's a star-studded Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 episode! We'll be reviewing the film and bringing you clips and commentary from the Los Angeles Press Conference that featured Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Sylvester Stallone (Star-Hawk), Kurt Russell (Ego), Dave Bautista (Drax), Michael Rooker (Yondu), director James Gunn, overseer/producer Kevin Feige and a few more from the cast. Joe Deckelmeier (ScreenRant / That Hashtag Show) joins in our discussion and provides major insight into the Marvel lexicon from the ‘90's. There may be some hints, clues and tidbits in the Press Conference that leads us to believe we will see more of the “old guard” in the future. Be aware, this discussion does contain spoilers, so we recommend you watch the film before listening. Also on this episode: GIVEAWAY! You could win a dancing Baby Groot! Enter to win here. Celebrate 40 years of your fandom with Skywalking Through Neverland on the Podcast Stage! At this interactive stage show we had a slideshow presentation with pictures depicting different moments in Star Wars fandom, from 1977 to 2017. We asked for those present if they had any stories, and several came up to share. Randy Martinez (Star Wars Artist) joined us for a mini-segment of Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics. He lent his artistic expertise to Comic Book Cover #14, as well as an ad that didn't look quite right. In Things We Want To Share, Dave Parfitt (Adventures By Daddy) joined us to showcase Give Kids The World, a charity you can still donate to right now, right here. We finished off the show with a tribute to Carrie Fisher - all the kids came up on stage and sang “Celebrate the Love” - the Life Day song Princes Leia sings in the Star Wars Holiday Special. All in all, this was a special event, we had over a hundred people join us for the Live Show. We had the 7:30pm Saturday time slot - the last show of the night, so we took a bit longer than one hour! I recommend you watch the show on YouTube above! Enjoy.
