I've been here three years and having run a very successful practice in London (so I know I can do it!), I'm really struggling here and am now down to just working with UK clients via video conferencing. I'm wondering if my fees are too high ($130)? If I need to blog more? Find ways to advertise more? I don't really have a niche, although I do work with refugees (voluntarily) and trauma. I need do something now as we are in difficult financial times so any thoughts of immediate (and with no cost) ideas would be hugely appreciated. Thank you." 2. Sam "I'm a mental health Social worker and my clients only receive a rebate of $74.85 per session. My fee is $170 per session because I have two years of postgraduate university training on top of my four year SW degree and 2 years gestalt experiential training and 10 years experience. I think my fee is reflection of my experience and training and it's unfortunate the Medicare rebate isn't more equitable amongst various professionals. Anyway my question is how do I know if I'm charging too much? I often find clients are asking to spread sessions out further apart than is ideal because money is tight. This sometimes impacts on the treatment. Has anyone had success in offering payment plans? Or packages e.g. buy 5 sessions and receive the 6th session for free. Thus is probably also ethically complex! Any assistance will be appreciated I'm feeling stuck!" 3. Krystyna Louise "Hi all, those of you who do a sliding scale for fees - how do you calculate and market it? You clearly define what someone who wants to work with you can expect from a coaching session. Is there a way in which we can offer something valuable to the clients to entice them to make a phone call? For instance, "Call for a 15-minute free initial consultation. In 15 minutes, we will discuss your situation and determine....." What can I say that will be valuable and ethical at the same time. The heading is “What can you do if you suffer with depression and anxiety during and after pregnancy?” Any advice would be appreciated. I am really stuck." 3. Michael – Facebook group "I want to create a brief compelling, crystal clear marketing message/headline that will combine my two practice specialties and resonate better with my ideal clients. For marketing purposes, I have developed two separate niches and websites. One is focused on helping people with anger problems, the other is focused on helping people with more classic anxiety problems like OCD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, P.T.S.D. The “anger copy” has worked very well, but it can scare great clients away because they don't want to identify as “being an angry person”; even if anger has indeed been a lifelong problem. I've been marketing the anger specialty for about 15 years. The “anger niche” is often a magnet for completely non-ideal clients. I am looking for a compelling way to let people know that I am a seasoned therapist that can help in lots of ways, but I have specialties in both anger and anxiety...that I help people calm down and heal the roots of chronic anxiety and anger. I receive quite a few referral from colleagues. Many of these referrals express doubts and reservations about working with me, because they have come across my anger management copy and it scares them. Fortunately some of my referral sources will send a “warm” referral who has been reassured that I “don't just work with anger”. So I would love to have a brief, simple way to focus my marketing message that could make it easier for a client to identify with. I welcome any suggestions at all!" In episode 107, Juliet and Clinton answer the following questions: 1) Which email marketing provider should I use? 2) How can I get help in setting up my email system? 3) For email marketing which is better - single or double opt-in? In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “There are so many email marketing systems out there and quite a price range - which one should I use?” 2. “I have just signed up with Aweber as per your recommendation. But, now I am overwhelmed. I think it is going to take forever to get this setup and working. I've started reading and watching some videos, but it feels like too much. Do you have any recommendations on how I can set this up simply or ideas on where I can get help?” 3. “I'm going to be offering my first online course soon, and I am very excited, but it sure is a lot of work. I am working on setting up my free offer for the free download I want to give away when promoting the course.  I can't figure out whether it is better to use single vs. double opt-in? It seems single opt-in would get more people to sign up, but then I don't understand why so many people use double opt-in. Please advise on which you think is best for a therapist to use.” Get the show notes with all the links and resources mentioned in this episode at http://askjulietandclinton.com/107.

In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “I'd love to start a podcast as I think I would be really good at it. I've heard it is a lot of work though so I am wondering if it is worth it. I don't want to spend a lot of time developing it and then have it flop. Are there guidelines I should follow to help determine whether it is worth it to start one?” 2. “Thank you for your very helpful podcasts, I have learned so much in marketing ethically. When it comes to marketing, so much can and is done online and I was wondering if there is still a place for having a brochure and if so, who is it given to? I don't as yet have a brochure and am wondering if it is worth doing. Thank you.” 3. “I am starting a practice part-time, as I still need to keep my job, so I have income coming in. For now, I am going to see clients one evening a week and on Saturday mornings.  I can probably handle 10 clients per week with my full-time job. But any more than that would be very stressful. I don't see a way as to how I can quit my job to build a full-time practice because I can't afford to quit. I don't understand how I can do this or how other people do this. And 3) What should I put on my website's About page? In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “Hi there! I am trying to build a passive income to supplement my private practice income. It's been a long, slow road, but I am making a small income already. The trouble is I'm finding I am having to work very long hours on top of my busy practice? How can I find more balance in my work while I build my passive income?” 2. “I am starting a blog. Should I wait to develop the content until my new blog page is up? Or should I start writing now?” 3. “I am writing my content for a new website and am not sure what to put on my about page. I notice some people write kind of a bio and include their professional qualifications. Other sites have a bunch of other information like how they work and the methods they use. Some websites have a lot of content; others have hardly any content. I am confused as to what is going to work best, and I am finding it really hard to write about myself. In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “I want to start a program where customers in my niche pay to subscribe to special events and special content for "members only" on my website, but I don't know how to begin. I guess want a membership site, but I don't know how to set this up. Do you have any ideas on how to get started?” 2. “HI Juliet and Clinton. I'm planning on building my first website, and I'm not sure about the content I should have on the Home page. What do you think is the most important information to have on a Home page? I am an EMDR therapist who specialises in working with trauma. P.S. I love your podcast!” 3. “Help! I have a marketing dilemma. I've been using a local marketing company that did a great job on my new website and has been helping me with SEO. I have had some great results from the work in the last 6 months already. The problem is one of my colleagues, who is a competitor as she works in the exact same city and niche as me, has asked if I can refer her to the company I've been working with. I'm in a real bind because I don't want to share this resource with her, but I may lose the friendship if I say no. In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “I have decided I want to start a podcast, but I'm not sure on the content. I know the format I want is a weekly show where I interview experts in my field. I work in the area of natural supplements and naturopathy and a lot of my work is in collaboration with medical physicians. And 3) How do I get testimonials for my ebook? In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “I just had my website done professionally, and I am intending to send out newsletters in the New Year. The area I am feeling stuck on is I haven't done newsletters before, so I've never asked for permission from past clients as to whether I could email them information. Is it ok to email them and ask if they would like to receive newsletters? I am not sure of the ethics of doing this. Any thoughts would be appreciated." 2. “I am considering moving the location of my counseling practice to a more affluent area. Even though part of my service does offer bulk billing, working in a lower socio-economic area really isn't giving me many paying clients. It will take 1 hour to travel but I am hoping that I will have a higher client base and the rent is cheaper. What are your thoughts on this possible move?” 3. “I just wrote an ebook on how a paleo diet can help improve your health. It seems I need testimonials. In episode 100 Juliet and Clinton answer these questions: 1) Should I have a Facebook group for a niche that may not want their problems to be known? 2) Is it ethical to get someone to write my ebook for me? And 3) Should I collect full names for my email list? In this episode we answered the following questions: 1. “I'm feeling a bit stuck with my new niche website / FB page. I've been helping people deal with problems with pornography for more than 5 years now, and I'm really comfortable talking about it in session. I'm also convinced that I am adding value and helping unknot some difficult relationship problems. So I had a niche website built. However, now that it's finished and I am trying to promote it and my FB page, I've choked a bit. My concern was (is) that I have set myself up in a niche that is going to be hard to get anyone to 'Like' or support me in a social media forum. I am concerned that were people to 'Like' what I am doing, they would feel that they outing themselves as having a pornography problem, or someone close to them has one. I've even have a close family member baulk, concerned that it would come up in their feed.” 2. “I want to write an ebook, but I don't want to write it myself. Is it ethical to get someone else write my book and use my name? Are there people who will agree to this? If so, where can I find them?” 3. “Thank you for all the helpful information - your podcasts and blogs have been invaluable to me as I build my practice! I am a trauma and addiction therapist in Vancouver. I have just created a new website and am launching a blog focusing on the connection between trauma and addiction. As I build my email list on my website, I am wondering about collecting full names and emails as opposed to just email addresses. Obviously, more information about subscribers is helpful. But how willing are people in providing name as well as email? Is there any ethical consideration around collecting this information?” Get the show notes with all the links and resources mentioned in this episode at http://askjulietandclinton.com/100.
