First Responders can be reluctant to seek help due to stigma and 7 in 10 say that mental health services are seldom or never used. First Responders are 5 times more likely to experience depression and PTSD. So why, as a society, are we expecting First Responders to raise their hand and say they have a problem? What if the worst of the judgment and stigma was coming from the very department that is supposed to have your back? Kristi Tausinga gives us a front-row seat to the challenges that come with being a First Responder, how the culture promotes a "don't show your weakness" mentality, and how her desperation eventually ended in her contemplating suicide. Thankfully, Kristi met our partners at Responder Health and over time is healing and sharing her story to give hope to other First Responders. We know that she will inspire others to seek help. This is another reminder that waiting for someone to raise their hand is a failed model. Youturn Health and Responder Health are reaching out and engaging with education and peer support- a winning combination with no rock bottom needed!Kristi was a first responder for 25 years, working in EMS, fire, and law enforcement. She worked in Law Enforcement for 21 and Fire/EMS for 4. Those years were divided up between The City of Winslow, AZ, and the state of Arizona. During that time, she was in Patrol, a sergeant, in administration, a school resource officer, and worked with the Department of Suicide and Domestic Violence (DV) as a liaison. Kristi was also on the Board of Directors for Alice's Place, which created a women's DV shelter. She also taught High School Criminal Justice classes and is a Federally certified Commercial Vehicle Inspector, AZPOST Genera Instructor, High-Risk Stop Instructor, Addiction Recovery Coach, and recovering addict. Kristi is currently retired from law enforcement and working as a substitute teacher at a local High School. Kristi has four kids (a grandbaby on the way) and a husband of 18 years, living in Nevada. She teaches private softball pitching lessons and umpires little league, when not following her teenager around to her games. https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristi-tausinga-7a75801a3/https://responderhealth.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/sean-riley-0604a824/
Phantom Electric Ghost Interviews A. Garcia Be Your Incredible Self (BYIS): Post Traumatic Growth And What It Is? Biography Be Your Incredible Self (BYIS) best describes Ms. Garcia's tenacious attitude towards empowering others. Garcia, over the past 35 years has navigated through domestic violence, privacy, safety, vulnerability, and the mindset to endure personal adverse events in life. Her survival of a double attempted homicide while 8 months pregnant (by the father) and the desperation to survive became the catalyst to the foundation of BYIS while achieving an undisputed outlook of independence. During her journey to overcome, Garcia learned that extreme independence is a trauma driven response and a natural one which can be defeated through focused, self awareness and intentional control. Through her own walk, harsh lessons brought on by extreme independence resulted in areas of her life being sabotaged repeatedly. Her personal journey of post traumatic growth has led Garcia to dedicating her life in developing transformational programs, various forms of coaching, certification courses and establishing a nonprofit to help real time victims. Her commitment is to provide lifelong transformational habits that can restore your powerful internal sense of control. One of her personal statements, ‘You don't live anywhere but in your head' is why some of her laser focus teachings are on aligning your mental and emotional belief system. As her passion grew from her own personal struggles, Garcia became active within the community receiving a Mayoral appointment to work with the Citizen Review board in direct conjunction with Internal Affairs. She received hands-on training from the Sheriff's department, Department of Homeland Security, and FEMA which also led to the Infrastructure Liaison Officer designation (ILO), through the local Law Enforcement Center. Garcia has spent more than 20 years in the corporate world holding positions in Office Administration, Project Management, Compliance, Policy writing, Team building, Training, Leadership and Consulting. She continued to serve other organizations including the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), Board of Directors, and holds a current membership in the FBI vetted private sector program of InfraGard. As VP of a Security Consultant Company, she has developed programs with leadership responsible for security and emergency management. These emphasize awareness toward identifying different stages of human behavior leading towards violence mitigation. While working, attending school, and raising her kids as a single parent, her personal priorities of housing, safety and privacy for her children were of utmost importance. This required Garcia to navigate through various self-help centers, state, city, local programs, systems and assistance to create a stable foundation for her family while providing the ability to assist others. She also volunteers and collaborates with local law writer(s), in support of bills under Public Safety. Garcia believes in the need to feel loved, wanted, and cared for as a part of life in all of us. Living through emotional tugs of war and learning to apply a controlled healthy mindset to overcome voids, shortcomings, and to break unhealthy cycles is who she is today versus the opposite of where she came from. Today, she prides herself on meeting the daily challenges of being vulnerable and safe at the same time while empowering others to Be Your Incredible Self. Garcia's personal mission is to help lead others in transforming their survival of Domestic Violence (DV) into Post Traumatic Growth and to mitigate the depletion of resources for real time victims. While this program is dedicated to all things good and positive, we can't ignore the negative influences around us. The truth is we live in a violent society. Crime is everywhere, and perhaps the worst kind are the acts of aggression performed by people we love. No one ever thinks they're going to be the victim of a violent act, yet their occurrences are more common than we might think. According to recent statistics 24 people per minute in the United States are assaulted by an intimate partner. Most women don't see it coming, and when it happens, they react with fear, shame, anger, depression and every other adverse emotion you can think of. Yet not only is it possible to recover from a personal attack, it's within your power to grow from it. This was the case with this episode's guest Agape Garcia. She was a casualty of the worst kind of domestic violence. But instead of shrinking into victimhood, she rose to provide a successful home for her children and now helps other women recover from Post-Traumatic Stress to Post Traumatic Growth. Agape tells us:• What happened after her assault• How she rose from despair• The first step to the road to recovery• How to avoid self-sabotage• The thing many crime victims do that deters their recovery• How to regain trust• What everyone needs to become their most powerful self Be Your Incredible Self (BYIS) best describes Ms. Garcia's tenacious attitude towards empowering others. Welcome to episode #73My guest Agape GarciaOctober was first declared National Domestic Violence Awareness Month in 1989 in the USA. Since then, October has been a time to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims. Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects everyone regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. Domestic violence can result in physical injury, psychological trauma, and even death. Physical violence is often accompanied by emotionally abusive and controlling behaviour as part of a much larger, systematic pattern of dominance and control. The devastating consequences of domestic violence can cross generations and last a lifetime.Although there has been substantial progress in reducing domestic violence in the USA, an average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute. This equates to more than 10 million abuse victims annually. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been physically abused by an intimate partner, and 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been severely physically abused by an intimate partner. Millions of Americans live in daily, silent fear within their own homes. In addition, every year, millions of children are exposed to domestic violence. Domestic violence incidents affect every person within a home and can have long-lasting negative effects on children's emotional well-being and social and academic functioning.Agape is the Executive Director of "Confronting Domestic Violence, Inc." When I asked Lisa Nolan to describe herself in 3 words, she answered: Approachable, Engaging and Firm. Not only are these words spot-on, but after this conversation, I came to realize that these three words have important meanings when dealing with Domestic Violence (DV). As the Director of Prevention Education, Lisa is all about reaching people and giving them the knowledge to help themselves. As an empath, she wants to save everyone; as a realist, she knows that empowering them will be of greater benefit. You can find Lisa at WillowCenter.org
Welcome to the 98th episode of the Give A Heck Podcast! Join Dwight Heck and his guest, Agape Garcia, as they talk about navigating her way through the trauma. Agape is the founder of Be Your Incredible Self, a nonprofit organization. She shares her survival story and how she now leads others towards post-traumatic growth. In this episode, you'll learn about: ● Agape's share of life's adversities ● Learned independence out of need ● Full survival mode and reaching an advocate ● Gratitude by giving back to the community ● How Agape developed the BYIS system ● And much more! ~ About Agape Garcia: Be Your Incredible Self (BYIS) best describes Agape Garcia's tenacious attitude with an emphasis on empowering others. Over the past 35 years, Garcia has navigated her way through domestic violence, privacy and safety issues, and the mindset to endure personal adverse events in life. Surviving a double attempted homicide at eight months pregnant, she became the catalyst for the foundation of BYIS. During her journey to overcome, Garcia learned that extreme independence is a trauma-driven response and one that can be overcome through focused personal growth. As her passion grew due to her own personal struggles, Garcia decided to become active within her community and received a Mayoral appointment to work with the Citizen Review Board in direct conjunction with Internal Affairs. She received hands-on training from the Sheriff's department, Department of Homeland Security, and FEMA. This led to the Infrastructure Liaison Officer designation (ILO) through the local Law Enforcement Center. While working, attending school, and raising her kids as a single parent, her personal priorities of housing, safety, and privacy for her children was of utmost importance. This required Garcia to navigate through the state, city, local programs, systems, and self-help centers to create the foundation for her family and to assist others. She also volunteers and collaborates with local law writer(s), in support of bills under Public Safety, for legislation that demonstrates her passion and advocacy for intended positive outcomes. Garcia's personal mission is to help and lead others in transforming the survival of Domestic Violence (DV) into Post Traumatic Growth, Certifying Life Coaches in being fully DV Resourced, Developing Programs within various Institutions utilizing the available resources already established. Surviving a double attempted homicide while 8 months pregnant with Agape Garcia. Garcia has spent more than 20 years in the corporate world holding positions in Office Administration, Project Management, Compliance, Policy writing, Team building, Training, Leadership, and Consulting. She continued to serve other organizations including the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), and Board of Directors and holds current membership in the FBI vetted private sector program of InfraGard. As VP of a Security Consultant Company, she has developed programs with leadership responsibility for security and emergency management. Garcia's personal mission is to help lead others in transforming their survival of Domestic Violence (DV) into Post Traumatic Growth and to mitigate the depletion of resources for real-time victims. Sharing her personal testimony has empowered so many others. She loves teaching her BYIS formula of: How to combine Situational Awareness with Emotional Intelligence to control your triggers.
Haili and Claire sit down to have a five point discussion surrounding the history of Domestic Violence (DV) and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). They cover DV awareness month, statistics, what it looks like, current events and resources.
Kim and Jamie talk about a few of the different resources in Milwaukee they know about and how they help those in need. Kim talks about using them for her clients and Jamie talks about being involved in the programs himself.

At that time, I was 17 with little knowledge of who my actual abusers were or how severely they had hurt me. At that time, I only thought I was suffering from childhood rape. With God as my only guide, I survived the many threats to my life and physical health. Today, as a survivor, I ask God to continue to watch over me and give me the strength to continue overcoming chronic illnesses and injuries to reach my life's goal of helping survivors of trauma. On February 20, 2018, I was thrown out of my protected world to realize that my mother had emotionally and physically abused me since birth. I had dissociated most of my life. I will define dissociation and explain why it protects many victims. On that day in 2018, she chose to beat me with no mercy. Again, God was guiding my way because I knew not to retaliate. Often, reactive abuse causes many victims to become blamed for the abuse. No abuser is worth a jail sentence or further injury of any type. Today, I share with survivors valuable recovery techniques that help them become strong enough within themselves to not react to their abusers. Because I was also emotionally abused and neglected by my father, a Child/Family Psychologist(Therapist), I understand how abusive practitioners can be toward victims and survivors. The practitioners who I am referring to include attorneys, judges, medical doctors, etc. There is such a thing as Legal/System Abuse Syndrome, which exhibits the same symptoms as PTSD, which develops from being abused by practitioners that a survivor turns to for assistance. A) Initially, I will talk about the symptoms and why the syndrome occurs B) The talk regarding the syndrome will lead into the discussion of Parental Alienation (PA). I will: define PA talk about the symptoms of PA in children why PA is misinterpreted why so many high conflict divorces that include children are intertwined with PA what tends to cause wrong PA rulings in the courts Yes, it is possible to win, and I will discuss some of the ways of winning The next segment of my discussion will detail how people are treated if they fall under review of a Department of Children & Families (DCF) Why are so many children wrongly taken from their parents Yes, the system can be coped with-Parents can be reunited with their children Last but not least, I will talk about what a person, even if they are a survivor, can do to ensure not partnering with an abuser. What are the red flags How do you become strong enough to cope if you do have to walk away from an abuser Anyone can become brainwashed by an abuser, which is why you should educate yourself In closing, I want to say that I am living the dreams that carried me through the years. As a Legal Advocate, not an attorney, I work with my clients throughout their cases until they win. I assist with whatever it takes to achieve our goals. Because I am not an attorney, there are no legal limits to whom I can approach for assistance. I also help my clients emotionally become strong enough to fight their abuser without becoming accused of being a Narcissist or Parent Alienator. As a Life Coach, I offer "Unstick Yourself" seminars, workshops, and individual coaching. I have 30+ years working with Domestic Violence (DV) coupled with a Ph.D., being a published author, motivational speaker, and ex broadcaster. And, possibly the most important part of my past is that I am a survivor of almost all forms of abuse from birth. I understand what my clients are experiencing.

In Femtastic's first-ever Spotlight Series, we focus this and the previous episode on bringing awareness to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or Domestic Violence (DV). The months of COVID-associated isolation, fear, and economic anxiety have exacerbated IPV. In today's episode, we focus on emotional abuse, an equally (and as our guest argues, more) damaging type of abuse that can occur in all types of relationships, from romantic to parent-child, to workplace and beyond. Today's guest is Beverly Engel, a psychotherapist who specializes in emotional abuse. Beverly details what emotional abuse looks like, how it shows up in all types of relationships (romantic relationships, queer and trans relationships, family relationships, etc.). Focusing mainly on romantic and familial relationships, Beverly discusses the tactics abusers use, the typical "profile" of an abuser, how abusers use shame to control their victims, and the red flags to spot early-on in a relationship that a partner may be emotionally abusive. She also discusses how COVID-19 worsens emotional abuse. Beverly offers resources for those in emotionally abusive relationships and for friends and family who suspect their loved one may be in an emotionally abusive relationship. Beverly is the author of several books about emotional abuse, including her latest book, Escaping Emotional Abuse. Find links to her other books in the resources below. [TW: domestic violence, sexual assault, physical violence, emotional abuse] A sad but true fact: more than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the US will experience intimate partner violence (IPV). Half of all female homicides are from a current or past male intimate partner. And these are just the estimates we have among cisgender people and those who report their abuse. But with the compounded stress and isolation of COVID-19, IPV has reached a tragic, all-time high. In Femtastic's first ever Spotlight Series, we focus the next two episodes on bringing awareness to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) or Domestic Violence (DV). The months of COVID-associated isolation, fear, and economic anxiety have ignited IPV to new and often deadly ends; specifically, domestic violence homicides have increased dramatically. Today, we focus on the type of abuse more commonly associated with IPV: physical violence. In the next episode, we focus on emotional abuse, an equally damaging type of IPV. To discuss physical IPV today, Femtastic's guest is Kathryn Jacob, President and CEO of SafeHaven of Tarrant County, a DV shelter in Fort Worth, Texas. Kathryn has been working for over 20 years to shine a spotlight on the issue of domestic violence. As an expert in this field, she has a wealth of knowledge and leads the industry to develop early intervention techniques to reduce DV's fatal outcomes. Today on the podcast, Kathryn discusses why and how IPV occurs, how it shows up in all types of romantic relationships (straight; queer; among trans and non-binary folks, etc.), misconceptions around IPV, how COVID has exacerbated it, and what you can do to help. In this episode, we answer questions about how to sell a package of workshops through your website, how to find your target audience online, and how to get your business more attention and exposure in the media. In this episode we answered the following questions: Jodie Gale – Facebook group Hi, Juliet and Clinton,“I am in the process of updating my website. I currently offer Saturday afternoon SOUL sessions. There is one x 2-hour space available each week. Because I sell these as a package, I would like a 'book/buy now' style button, which I would like to link to available dates and a payment button. Because this is just one session a week and my private practice is part-time (with weekly, long-term clients), I don't need to invest in a full-on booking system right now. What other options are there? Or would a PayPal-style system suffice?" Julianne www.balancedwellness.com.au For the past 15 years my work has been Chinese massage (Tui Na), and counselling for the past 5 years. My question is how do I move towards finding my target audience for Teaching Qigong to help people who are stressed in their body and mind and want improvement in general health?” Alison Howarth – Facebook group – penrithcounselling.com.au “I'm really curious about SourceBottle. Sourcebottle is a site where you can respond to people wanting to interview experts in the media, but I rarely see a question for my specialization, which is Domestic Violence – DV recovery and counselling for women. I was wondering if it's worthwhile going pro for $25/week? Are there other ways I can get the attention of the media for my niche?
