Patrick discusses the roles of husbands and wives and the importance of love and submission. Patrick also provides valuable insights on determining the legitimacy of charities and religious organizations. And, of course, we take calls from listeners who share their questions and experiences. Joseph - I don't like how you handled the divorced man. You shouldn't have talked with him about penance, instead you should have loved him. Fred - Regrading Judas: I think that Judas could have repented in the last moments. Is that something I can believe? Rafael - I think that we are all different. If someone wouldn't have told me I need to repent, I would be sinning today. I think you do great. Carrie - I think your response was with love. I think you did a great job. Linda - I thought you acted in a loving fatherly way to the person who was getting divorced. I think you did well. Alyssa - Is Yu-Gi-Oh okay for my kids to play? Karen - How do I discern which religious solicitation are legit that I get in the mail? Alex - Do you think the way they portray Judas in movies makes him seem more innocent than he was? Monica - What does it mean to be a submissive spouse and the man's role in this? Mike - What does it mean to drink too much alcohol? Where is the line?
Today, Karen McAdams and I talk about getting free from false identities and shame so we can be who our Father created us to be. Stay tuned to the end when Karen leads us into a powerful encounter with Jesus. You can find Karen on Instagram here: @KarenMcadams1111 @bestillministries To learn more about her 8 week video-based bible study designed to position women for an intimate encounter with the Father's heart, go here: www.fathershousestudy.com Here's more about Karen: How does one write their own bio? I've lived in Atlanta for forever with my husband of 28 years, Kevin, and have 2 amazing sons Connor (27) and Cade (24). My family and friends would tell you that I am passionate about Jesus, Truth, vulnerability, and naps. Oh, and that I always know where to take a good Jesus-field-trip! I would say that they are pretty much right. But you have to know that's not who I have always been. Although I walked the aisle and prayed “the prayer” at 17, I didn't really know Christ. In fact, I didn't know that you could. I was handed a bible, given the list of do's and don'ts, and deduced that it was up to me to impress God. Let's just say, it didn't take very long to fail at that endeavor. By the time I was in my late 20's, I had become a professional “hider” – I knew how to play the part on the outside, but I was completely falling apart on the inside. Childhood trauma, 2 failed engagements, and a backpack of shame and masks had taken their toll on me. I was convinced I was unlovable and a spectacular disappointment to God. Until. Well…you know what comes next. Until I met HIM. Like really met HIM. The words He spoke caught me off guard – they were breathtaking words for someone like me. That encounter with HIM became the catalyst for a journey into a life that I didn't know was possible. I discovered that “good” isn't really sufficient to describe just how good He really is! And that the abundant life isn't a metaphor or a Christian slogan, but an invitation for all people, anywhere, anytime – as long as you are willing to come to HIM on his terms. He gives bear hugs and throws parties before listening to apologies. That's the Papa God I know. Let's just say I want you to know Him too. Oh and then there's the other stuff… Co-author of Father's House, an 8 week video-based bible study designed to position women for an intimate encounter with the Father's heart Co-host of There is More Podcast Director of Equipping for Be Still Ministries
This episode is part 2 of a therapeutic psychological session with Alison's guest Karen. In the last episode, Alison and Karen began discussing Karen's current struggles and exploring her traumatic past and upbringing. Through Karen's vulnerability in sharing her story and therapeutic experience, she allows you to walk alongside her journey. Although your story may be totally different, it can be therapeutic for you to hear Karen's brave quest for truth and freedom.Throughout childhood and up until about age 7, we are in theta brain waves and in an almost hypnotic state so that we can learn and absorb the world around us. If that world feels unsafe or unstable, it can affect us into adulthood without us realizing it. Experiencing insecurity or traumatic events can have a lasting effect that should be addressed later in life so that we can heal. Allowing our inner child to fully express what they couldn't say when we were younger, and working to heal the pain that child experienced, can provide peace and healing for our adult-self.In this episode, Karen shares more about her worries about her past affecting her current relationships and not wanting to constantly feel fearful or anxious. She has felt that she has done everything she is supposed to do to heal, yet still finds herself stuck. Alison walks Karen through practices of allowing her inner child to express what she needs to so she can finally feel safe. Key points:Alison explains what happens when we are in survival mode Alison explains a “shame attack' How Karen feels her mother's death has impacted her 12-year-old selfAlison explains that Karen has been doing outside work, but needs to go inward and heal “little Karen”How do we find love for ourselves? All feelings want to be felt and if you don't then they take over Connect with Alison:Instagram: @alisonanswers | @lagercounselingWebsite: LagerCounseling.comYouTube: Alison AnswersFacebook: Alison Lager Lcsw CasacPurchase Alison's book: “The Wake Up Call”Alison Answers Facebook Group: Join HEREWomen of Excellence FB group: Join HERE

One day I told God that I would help myself if He wouldn't help me. I then went to AA and it helped so much. Nancy - How can I talk with a priest who doesn't like women to veil and kneel when receiving communion? The stories my father has told me about his childhood are ones that have stayed with me. There are stories about the ice cream shop he worked in, the pranks he played on his bus driver, and the trouble he used to get into with his partner-in-crime Bobby MacGyver, but the one that always stuck with me was one he'd tell about his mother. My grandfather was a police officer in New Rochelle and my dad would tell me my grandmother would ask him to bring home a pint of ice cream and she'd eat it while waiting for him to walk through the door after his shift had ended. I can vividly picture her waiting in a chair by the door eating coffee ice cream while anxiously waiting for my grandpa to come home. I share this because today's guest, Karen White, was also impacted by some of the stories her father would tell her as well and elements of those stories are featured in her bestselling novels. MEET KAREN WHITE Karen White is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of 31 books, including the Tradd Street series, The Last Night in London, Dreams of Falling, The Night the Lights Went Out, Flight Patterns, The Sound of Glass, and A Long Time Gone. She is the coauthor of All the Ways We Said Goodbye, The Glass Ocean and The Forgotten Room with New York Times bestselling authors Beatriz Williams and Lauren Willig. Her latest novel, The Shop on Royal Street, came out on March 29th. KEY TOPICS IN THIS EPISODE How reading was a form of escape for Karen How her dad's real ghost stories impacted her imagination and writing The role of encouragement played in Karen's writing journey Why she went from being a reader to a writer after becoming a mother The idea behind her new series first book Why validation is important for authors KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM MY TALK WITH KAREN Writing as an escape. Karen enjoys escaping into a good book. For her, it's more than just entertainment; reading actually provides an opportunity for self-reflection and world excavation that she can't get any other way! When she was young, Karen's dad used to tell stories about growing up poor in the South during the Great Depression. These stories stayed with her and elements of them wind up in her own writing. The importance of encouragement. Karen's 6th grade teacher saw potential in her and encouraged to explore her talent, which put her on the path of becoming an author. Just do it. Karen takes a page out of the Nike playbook while dishing out advice to aspiring authors—to just do it! WHERE TO BUY THE SHOP ON ROYAL STREET Amazon | Bookshop.org MEMORABLE QUOTES FROM KAREN “Just do it. My sixth-grade teacher used to say where there's a will there's a way. I know a mother of four who just who started writing she's now a New York Times bestselling author. She would get up at four o'clock in the morning to write before she had to get up with the kids and then go do her full-time job. So, where there's a will there's a way. Don't' picture anybody looking behind you; write the story that you want to write, and then the rest will fall into place. I did a Facebook Live "Ask Me Anything" the other day on the Podcast Talent Coach Facebook Page. On it, you got answers to your podcast questions. We talked about everything from selling and monetizing your show to using text messaging as a way to interact with your listeners. I thought I would share those answers with you today. BOOTCAMP Before we jump into it, I want to invite you to a powerful event I am holding where I will help you build your podcast monetization strategy. We actually get stuff done in this day-long bootcamp. So many times, we go to webinars hoping to learn something only to find out it is full of fluff. We might walk away with one or two ideas after an hour. But we are really only there for the sales pitch. You now have a chance to join me for a 6-hour Podcast Profits Bootcamp where I will walk you through the entire process to build your podcast monetization strategy. It's actually 7 hours, but you get an hour for lunch. During this event, we will build a few ways to monetize your show that are perfect for you. This isn't one size fits all. It is specific to your podcast. You can enroll at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/bootcamp. You will get a workbook that will help you stay on track as we develop your strategy. During the bootcamp, we walk through the workbook step-by-step. We will start with your foundation to ensure you are building on solid ground. Then, we will develop your purpose. I'll show you why most podcasts don't make money, so you can avoid those pitfalls. Many people think ads and sponsorships are the way to make money with your show. That is a myth. It is the worst way. Sponsorships require a very large audience and a lot of sales time. Ads also have a revenue ceiling. I'll show you a better way during the Podcast Profits Bootcamp. I won't just show you, we will build it together. We will discuss the various ways you can monetize your show, and we will pick the strategy that is right for you. Finally, you will have plenty of time to ask me questions to refine your strategy. This is so much more than a webinar or workshop. It is a bootcamp where we will actually get things done. Where most webinars last an hour, this is an all day event. REGISTER Registration for the Podcast Profits Bootcamp is $197 for this 6-hour bootcamp and your workbook. More importantly, you walk away with your monetization strategy for your show. Right now, you can enroll for $197. Enroll now and secure your spot. What would it be like to own and run your own group therapy practice--including the building? And to complicate matters, what if the whole endeavor is getting off the ground during a global pandemic? It might sound crazy, but you'll hear the details from today's guest who is making it all happen after facing down all the obstacles. Join us! Our Featured Guest Karen Grayson, PhD, LPC Dr. Karen Grayson had a vision a few years ago of owning a therapy practice building, so she followed through with the big purchase in 2018. She's here to help us navigate through the challenges of owning a therapy practice building during a pandemic. The Center for Inner Transformation, in St. Louis, is a place where Karen combines philosophy, therapy, and spirituality on an integrated pathway to her clients' personal and collective development, and it's also home for the practices of three other clinicians. She shares where the idea of buying a building came from, how she went into the process, along with practical steps that she took during the pandemic. We wrap up today's conversation with four pieces of advice that Karen would give to her younger self about this undertaking. https://thecenterstl.com/ (www.thecenterstl.com ) You'll Learn: ● How Karen began with the dream to purchase a therapy building ● How she moved from vision to implementation through finding comfort in the unknown ● How Karen's journey unfolded from her teaching role to group therapy ● How Karen purchased her office building in 2018, dealt with two colleagues who backed out after the purchase, and endured a difficult neighbor in the office park ● Why Karen learned to be gentle with herself and fierce in her purpose, staying grounded in the uncertainty ● How the drawbacks in the process led to feelings of failure and depression for Karen ● How she persevered with a deep commitment to her purpose and a willingness to fail ● How Karen learned the value in having support people in place from STC ● How the pandemic has affected Karen and her endeavors ● How word-of-mouth referrals have benefitted Karen's business ● Why we need to know what our strengths are ● How Karen deals with her core wound of not being good enough ● How things worked out for Karen when she “let go and listened” ● Karen's pieces of advice to her younger self about purchasing the building during a pandemic: ○ Everything is an invitation for growth. ○ The birthing process is always a hard thing. ○ I'm not in charge of time. ○ Be open to a larger container. In this episode, Juliet and Clinton answer questions on how to get starting marketing, the best steps to take after launching a website, how to compete with newer and younger therapists when you are an older, established therapist, and how to rank higher in Google. The following questions were answered in this episode: Treona: I would love to hear your advice about what to do after the website is live….what are ways to spread the word or what are ways drive traffic to the website? Doug: Although I have already started down the marketing route and I have business cards, postcards, letterheads, a website including blogging, Facebook page etc., With all of that in place and behind them, where would you advocate a counsellor's proactive marketing should start? I tend to be (I think), reasonable at design and planning, but pushing myself over the edge beyond passive efforts requires something more. Michelle: There is so much to do and so many ways to market & then you get all this conflicting information from everywhere. For someone just starting out or someone who's been in business a while, but still has a small following and budget – what needs to be focused on first? Where should I put all my attention? (besides build the list I mean lol). What would be wise to spend money on and what can I do myself until later? “How can an older, more experienced therapist, who is running a private practice in a very therapist saturated area of an urban American city, and who commands higher fees to respect their length and depth of experience, compete with younger and “hungrier”, new therapists who offer below-market or managed care HMO fees just to “get” clients to complete their clinical hours in competing private practices, when many potential clients are shopping around for therapists just based on who will offer them the lowest fee? Despite having a specific niche of expertise, I have decades of experience on younger therapists whose practices are fuller than mine! Karen: How come people rank higher than me in Google?
