Annamh - the Irish word for rare, as I appreciate a podcast episode is a rare thing from me these days - so rare in fact that I missed out on my decade anniversary. This podcast is in fact 11 years old this month!

Could it really have been named anything else? Subsequently I finally found some time to do another episode - its been, a very long time. So much has happened. I hope the attached sounds find you well and avoiding any evil organisms trying to make a home in you. What a weird time on Earth hey!?  As a weapon of mass distraction I have created this mix to while away some hours with. Lots of classic reworks, all smashed in with some new beasts. I have got massively in to Techy uplifting sounds of late so be prepared for some dark driving beats with a crescendo of Hard Trance. It is of course still the usual journey but there is a distinct edge of raving in a filthy warehouse somewhere in East London to the sounds of Techno. Hello!  It is FINALLY here - episode 135! Do you ever get tingles and chills when listening to Trance, or any music? I do, seriously; goosebumps galore. Music is in fact able to trigger physiological responses in some people - usually this is a pleasurable phenomena and can vary in intensity. No two people will likely feel these shivers in exactly the same way so and no two tracks will give the exact same response, in essence music creates a unique experience for all of us, track by track, tingles or no tingles. If you experience these chills - there is some science to suggest that your brain is wired up a bit differently and you may percieve the world in an alternative way to many people... One study by a Harvard student found that "people who get a shiver up their spine have more fibers connecting their auditory cortex to brain areas associated with emotional processing. This lets the two areas communicate better and means that people who get the chills experience intense emotions differently from those who don't". The reason behind this - as per with neuroscience isn't really understood, interestingly in addition, there doesn't seem to be any evolutionary need for it. Something just wonderfully weird and that personally helps shape my own subjective experience with music... Here's hoping you get those tingles listening to this mix! It was a recording sesh that took me back to my roots and to a proper set of decks and mixer at last. A 2 hr and 23 minute marathon mix - I didn't want to stop, even though I had sore feet and the fact I was invading some good friend's house to record it! Episode 131, this is 'The Legend' - I actually got it done, and nearly a month after the last episode! HUZZAHHHH! It's a bit of an eclectic one, some old, some new and some right randomers - I have been feeling all the tracks, one in particular which isn't really Trance is Bicep - Glue. Its got some gorgeous uplift to it, and some incredibly oldskool vibes - almost melancholy, I like it though. Hey guys - since the move to Podbean a few of my most popular mixes have dropped off iTunes - so at a request I am uploading this episode from my series Brief History of Trance (Only two of them!), the first ever one I did back in 2011. It was my most popular episode ever getting nearly a million downloads on Podomatic. It features some of my all time favourite classics mixed chronologically from 1993 to 2011. The original blurb with it..... Of course Trance goes back to the Acid House era in its earliest forms, being heard from about the mid eighties. But the sound really came to fruition in my opinion when Paul Van Dyk released his remix of Humate - Love Stimulation in 1993, definitely the pioneer of the current sound, bringing the european sound completely to the forefront of the trance scene. I have recorded a mix in complete chronological order, with one track selected from each year since 1993 up to the present day. All my own personal preferences and aren't necessarily actual number one tracks from each year, although most of course are recognised and were hits in the scene in various forms over the years. A History of Trance returns with the second instalment - 2011 was the last edition, journeying from 1993 to 2011. This new episode is a bit of a monster - prepare for some commitment for the next 2.5 hours! I have returned, after a pretty life changing break away it has to be said. I have been working hard on my career and I have missed being able to have the time to escape to do this stuff. This is the month of May, summer is hinting at its arrival and something to accompany this most lovely time of year is a very sun kissed and blissful mix from the legend that is Tom Costelloe.... A local hero to Devon hailing from London originally Tom has had his fair share of DJ globe trotting adventures and residencies. So honoured to have one of my DJ heros from over the years to feature in this guest mix. :) Bio..... With a true passion for music alongside a well-developed taste in all genres, an energising stage presence and the ability to read perfectly his audience, its common knowledge that TOM COSTELLOE has got the art of DJ'ing to a standard that's hard to beat... He started DJ'ing in 1987, playing out at local pubs and clubs, and doing Weddings, Birthdays ETC. His natural talent was soon spotted and in 1991 he was offered a weekly residency at FUTURES a House club in Deptford (London). Futures soon outgrew its venue and Tom linked up with Bernie Sinclair & Sean McClusky of LOVE RANCH who began the now infamous CLUB UK and Tom became resident of these events from 1992... In the Summer of 1995 Tom was asked to become resident for LOVE RANCH at SPACE (Ibiza) on Thursday Mornings. Tom impressed several promoters on the island and was approached to play the legendary SPACE on Sunday mornings supporting the likes of Brandon Block and Alex P, and proved his versatility with set's both inside and on the terrace. Whilst in Ibiza Tom Also played for SIGN OF THE TIMES, at many of the SUNRISE parties and at CAFÉ MAMBO and was also headlining at many of the smaller San Antonio clubs. Back in the UK Tom Continued to Play for SIGN OF THE TIMES as the main resident, this time based in London at THE ROCKET. And 1998 saw further visits to Ibiza where Tom played for SUNNY SIDE UP at ES PARIDIS, CLOCKWORK ORANGE, and the now infamous GODSKITCHEN at AMNESIA where he made 6 appearances as a resident which continued the following year. In 2000 Tom relocated to Devon as resident and promoter of EYECON at the DANCE ACADEMY, PLYMOUTH - playing alongside some of the world's most talented and most wanted DJ'S, booking the artist's for this event and putting his unique slant on the line up's - you could never say it was all about one style, more like a mish mash of several! And that's the way TOM liked it! This popular Saturday night event boasted a weekly attendance of 1200+ and an ever-growing group of dedicated followers that crammed the cavernous club almost full to capacity every week, all waiting for the time when TOM hit the decks with his weekly assault of upfront and classic tunes – basically YOU knew when TOM COSTELLOE was on!!! EYECON @ the Dance Academy was voted club of the year (regional) in MIXMAG in 2004 and received several similar accolades in music publications such as DJ mag, Muzik and Ministry Magazines. Tom, accompanied by MANOCH BAHMANZADEH (owner) both turned the DANCE ACADEMY in Plymouth into one of the most respected and much loved events in the UK, and it's sad loss still continues to this day...
