In this episode of the Business Legacy Podcast, Paul Dio sits down with Katherine Horrigan, owner and CEO of Dance Academy of Virginia, to discuss how dance became the foundation for leadership, confidence, discipline, and personal growth. Katherine shares her journey from professional ballet and contemporary dancer to entrepreneur, explaining how injuries led her to transition out of performing and into business leadership. After spending a decade helping scale another dance company, Katherine unexpectedly launched her own academy during the height of COVID — turning uncertainty into an opportunity to build something extraordinary. Over the past five years, Dance Academy of Virginia has expanded to two locations, over 1,300 students, and a growing leadership team focused on developing not just dancers, but future leaders. Throughout the conversation, Katherine dives into the mindset shifts required to scale a company quickly, the importance of empowering team members to think independently, and how embracing bold decisions can accelerate growth far beyond incremental progress. The episode also explores the emotional connection between music, performance, and identity, the balance between supporting both students and parents, and the lasting impact businesses can have when they prioritize human development over transactions. This conversation is a powerful reminder that leadership is ultimately about helping others see what's possible within themselves. In a candid interview, the Australian-based dancer, actor and musician Dena Kaplan describes the unexpected places dance may take you. Dena was born in South Africa and moved to Australia. A talented young dancer, at 16 she was cast in The Lion King: an experience far less supportive than it should have been. After training in New York she returned to Australia in the hit tv series Dance Academy, as the ruthlessly ambitious Abigail Armstrong. Next came the euphoria of music, as a DJ and recording artist under the name Dena Amy. What might the path ahead look like? https://www.denaamy.com/ Hosted on Acast. Jason Beechey has spent his career shaping pre-professional ballet training. After 18 years as rector of Palucca University of Dance in Dresden, he now serves as Director of Zurich Dance Academy and Head of Dance at the Zurich University of the Arts. He walks us through how Zurich Dance Academy actually works: the rotating teacher model, the health team, and how mental resilience, nutrition, and career management are woven directly into the curriculum as graded work, not afterthoughts. He also talks honestly about what happens after graduation, and how the school is helping students reframe auditions, develop self-awareness, and think beyond the same five companies everyone else is chasing. The conversation also touches on the cultural shifts reshaping the profession, and what ballet parents should know about sending a child to train at a European ballet conservatory. Hollywood actor Tim Pocock was tricked by his dying, devout mother into undergoing gay conversion therapy. After she died, Tim finally learned how to be himself, without fear and self-loathing.Tim grew up under the thumb of his charismatic, pious mother. He went to a school with links to the controversial, secretive and conservative Catholic organisation, Opus Dei.There, he desperately tried to hide his sexuality, and was ruthlessly bullied for his musical and stage talents.Despite Tim's success in Australian opera, television, and in Hollywood blockbusters, he continued to harbour many secrets about himself and his family. One day his mother, who loved Tim deeply in her own way, and who was dying from ovarian cancer, convinced her only son to come with her to therapy. Instead of finally being able to talk about his struggles, Tim found himself being tricked into gay conversion therapy. For the last few months of his mother's life, he went to be hypnotised by a 'Catholic psychologist' every week, until eventually she died, and Tim was set free to learn how live by and for himself.Further informationThe Truth Will Set You Free: Growing up gay in Opus Dei is published by Hachette. You can stream the Four Corners report into schools with ties to Opus Dei, which features Tim, on ABC iview. The Pared Foundation's full responses to questions from Four Corners can be read here.Opus Dei Australia provided Four Corners with this statement.Find out more about the Conversations Live National Tour on the ABC website. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris and presented by Richard Fidler. You might know actor Tim Pocock from his roles in Dance Academy or X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Even as a child, he graced the Sydney Opera House starring in operas directed by Baz Lurhman. But that world of artistic expression was in stark contrast to the other world Tim was part of for so long - one of repression by conservative catholicism under Opus Dei - made all the worse as he began to realise who he truly was. In this chat, Tim reveals his experiences of shame, bullying and conversion therapy, as well as his journey toward healing, discovery and self-acceptance, and the ongoing work of undoing the trauma of the beliefs that kept him feeling trapped for so long. An inspiration for anyone who’s ever felt silenced or lived an inauthentic life, an insight into certain pockets of religious institutions and a vital plea for the parents of every LGBTIAQ+ child. Minister Patrick O'Donovan TD was joined by Vanessa Hartley, Head of Google Ireland to celebrate the official opening of The Factory, a dedicated community arts and culture space located at Bolands Mills, the new urban quarter made possible by Google. Designed as a home for creativity, collaboration, and community engagement, The Factory reaffirms Google's long-standing commitment to its local community. Long a landmark on Dublin's cultural map, The Factory has hosted legendary names like The Bolshoi Ballet, U2, and David Bowie, who have spent time here, performing, recording or rehearsing. The Factory has also nurtured some of Ireland's most talented actors and film-makers. Paying homage to its rich history, the space has been restored by Google in consultation with multiple local community groups across the arts and creative industries including the National Performance Arts School, Neurodiversity Irishtown, Ringsend & Pearse Street (NIRP), RMS Music, the Dublin 4 Dance Academy, St Andrews Resource Centre, Ringsend Community Services Forum, Education Task Force and This City Works. Vanessa Hartley, Head of Google Ireland said: "For 22 years, Google has been proud to call Ireland home to our EMEA headquarters. What began with just five employees in a shared office has grown into a thriving team of over 5,000 people around Barrow Street. But our presence here has always been about more than just offices - it's about being a supportive part of the local community. "With the opening of The Factory, we're creating a revitalised space for arts, culture, and creativity - a space for people to come together, express themselves, and nurture the talent of the Dublin Docklands. This is just one part of our commitment to being an active, helpful neighbour, and we're extremely grateful to all those who helped bring this vision to life." The Factory is located at the site of the historic Bolands flour mills which was acquired by Google in 2018. Now complete, the restoration of the 150-year-old mill and surrounding site includes over 50,000 square feet of newly landscaped outdoor areas alongside 30,000 square feet of retail and community space. Bolands Mills also provides a new hub for Google's engineering teams, retail spaces for an eclectic mix of independent local businesses, as well as 46 discounted-rental apartments made available to key workers supporting the local community via Clúid. Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan said: "The restoration of The Factory is a shining example of how we can preserve our cultural heritage while creating new opportunities for creativity and community. Spaces like this are essential for fostering artistic expression, inclusion, and innovation - especially in dynamic urban areas like the Dublin Docklands. I commend Google for their ongoing commitment to cultural engagement and look forward to seeing The Factory become a vibrant hub for local talent and creative collaboration." The Factory is now ready to continue the creative legacy of The Docklands. As a versatile hub for all forms of expression, it has been redesigned for flexibility and inclusivity - offering a blank canvas for diverse voices, sounds, and rhythms of the neighbourhood. From 2025, this storied space will be available for local groups to book for various creative, educational, and cultural activities. Requests for booking can be made at https://bolandsmills.com/event-spaces/. Speaking at the event, local artist Paula Moen said: "The arts are a vital part of Ireland's cultural identity. Spaces like The Factory at Bolands Mills are essential in nurturing creativity and community connection. The support of a global company like Google is invaluable and very much appreciated in our local communities - not only does it help preserve our rich artistic heritage, but it also empowers local artists to thrive and innovate. It's crucial that we continue to champion our homegrown talent and create opportunities for...
In this vulnerable episode, I share a moment I'm not proud of ~ a quiet judgement I made about someone else that caught me off guard. But instead of pushing it away, I looked at it closely… and realised it had nothing to do with them, and everything to do with a fear I hadn't fully healed in myself. With a focus on social media, in this episode I chat about the pressure we feel as a society to prove to others that we are 'happy' or 'successful,' or looking and feeling good. However what I've learned, is that success doesn't have to look loud. When I felt into this ~ the need to prove to others how 'well' I was doing melted away. It allowed me to breathe, the pressure melted away and I started becoming enjoying my life a lot more! This episode is also for anyone who's ever felt irrelevant, behind, or like their best achievements are already behind them. I explore how we measure our worth by the last “big thing” we did, and how that pressure to constantly top ourselves keeps us stuck in self-doubt.We also dive into; ~ The freedom that comes when we understand our projections~ Why we over-explain and justify ourselves when we're feeling unworthy~ How letting go of the need to prove our success to others brings a refreshing, peaceful energy. And I close with some reflective questions to help you redefine what success truly means to you:

What does it take to become a leading man in TV, film and theatre? Is it good looks? Or is it something else that's impossible to define? Cary Grant and Ryan Gosling have it! So does Australian actor Ian Stenlake. He's been a “leading man” in popular TV shows like Sea Patrol, The Secret Daughter, Dance Academy and Stingers, and in hit musicals like Mamma Mia, Oklahoma and Sam Mendes' production of Cabaret opposite Aussie songstress, Tina Arena. Currently, Ian is touring Australia in Elvis: A Musical Revolution playing Elvis' fiendish manager. An old Brisvegas theatre buddy, I directed him in a couple of shows there. I emailed the two-time Green Room Award Winner and asked him to join me on my podcast series and explain what it takes to become a leading man. Leading Man Podcast (feat. These types are primarily driven by their thoughts and have a strong desire for knowledge, understanding, and intellectual stimulation. They rely on logical reasoning and their minds when making decisions. The feeling center includes types two, three, and four. These types are driven by their emotions and seek connection, validation, and personal significance. They are in touch with their feelings and are often sensitive to the emotions of others. The instinctual center comprises types eight, nine, and one. These types are driven by their instincts and have a desire for control, justice, independence, and peace. They are more focused on the present moment and excel in handling crises or tactical situations. It's important to note that while each center of intelligence has a general core motive, the specific manifestations of these motives can vary greatly among the types within each center. Understanding the three centers of intelligence in the Enneagram can greatly benefit individuals in their roles as leaders, parents, and partners. By recognizing their own core motives and understanding the motives of the other eight types and the other two centers of intelligence, individuals can grow and develop personally and as leaders. This understanding allows them to embrace different perspectives and operate more effectively in various situations.Connect with Tracy:Tracy's Website http://tracyomalley.com/ Tracy on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/tracy_omalley/ Tracy on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/tracy.omalley Tracy on Twitter https://twitter.com/TracyOMall Tracy on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/tracy-o-malley/Resources:Attend Tracy's Enneagram Group Workshop https://www.tracyomalley.com/workshop Access Tracy's Enneagram Blueprint https://www.tracyomalley.com/workwithmeUsing Your Stress Number to Eliminate Shame & Self-Sabotage on Lead with the Enneagram EP356 https://open.spotify.com/episode/111YMhtJjtw4sgBsN4fHs7 Book a Power Session with Tracy http://tracyomalley.com/workwithme/Learn More About Tracy's Enneagram Team Dynamics Workshop https://www.tracyomalley.com/workwithme Book a Partner Session with Tracy https://www.tracyomalley.com/workwithmeApply for 1:1 Coaching with Tracy https://www.tracyomalley.com/workwithmeEmail info@tracyomalley.com

--------- Kontaktseite: https://www.mdavs.de/kontakt/ Twitter: @MdaVs_Podcast Facebook: www.facebook.com/TrashOMeter Mail: MdaVs-Podcast@hotmail.com Gastbeiträge einreichen: https://www.speakpipe.com/MdaVs
