Now the Australian government is looking to making changes to the way data protection should operate in 21st century Australia after they published recommendations of a review into this country's privacy laws. According to the details published by The Daily Aus on their Instagram feed, the review was asked to think about how privacy laws should be updated to encompass digital privacy. In 1995, the EU launched the Data Protection Directive, but that was when the internet was still young. In 2016, the European Union adopted the GDPR - the General Data Protection Regulation. Youth Culture Today with Walt Mueller

It's important that we pay special attention to any new trends that are sparked by the growing presence of smartphones and technology in today's youth culture. One new trend has been labeled as “digital self-harm”, and it's on the rise among our teenagers. Listen carefully to this definition of digital self-harm: “it's a form of self-aggression that involves anonymously posting hurtful and sometimes verbally abusive remarks about one's self online.” Kids will create anonymous social media accounts which then use to post these comments targeted at themselves. Why, you may ask, are kids doing this? According to the journal of adolescent health, teens are doing this as a mechanism to regulate and express their feelings of self-hatred and sadness, in addition to gaining attention from family and friends who will sympathize and reach out without knowing the real source of the comments. Parents, the God-shaped hole in our kids is growing, and it needs to be answered with the Gospel.

This week we chatted with author, illustrator, and activist Florence Given, aka “Floss”, about her new (very bisexual!) novel, GIRLCRUSH. Floss gained an online following leading up to her first book, “Women Don't Owe You Pretty”, a non-fiction feminist primer, before transitioning to fiction and highlighting sexual fluidity in “Girlcrush”.We talked about Floss's bisexual journey, the biphobia and bi-erasure she's experienced since coming out, the differences she's encountered dating men v. women, how not wanting to play into toxic and gendered power dynamics in relationships can lead to being overly cautious, why she wanted to create a “messy” bisexual character who gets confused and makes mistakes, and the unexpected joys that have come with a queer identity. We also discussed what it's like to be a social media influencer today, the difference between our digital self and our reality, parasocial relationships between creators and their fans, how to deal with online trolls and negativity, and the pleasant surprises that come with a public persona. Finally, we touched on consent, how to recognize and get out of an abusive relationship, and how to reclaim your own power and authenticity.Follow Floss on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/florencegiven/Visit Floss's website: https://www.florencegiven.com/Buy GIRLCRUSH: https://bookshop.org/books/girlcrush/9781914240522Two Bi Guys is produced and edited by Rob CohenCreated by Rob Cohen and Alex BoydLogo art by Kaitlin WeinmanMusic by Ross MintzerWe are supported by The GothamMade on Zencastr #MadeOnZencastrUse my special link zen.ai/twobiguys1 and use twobiguys1 to save 30% off your first three months of Zencastr professional. #madeonzencastrRob is hosting a Bi+ trip to coastal Maine in June 2023! In this OODAcast, we discuss a wide variety of issues: The role that networked tribalism played in the election and the events of January 6, 2021, and what comes next. The role algorithms, AI, and Machine Learning will play in creating and/or disrupting networked tribes. The role emerging technologies will play in building a new data economy in which individuals establish digital self sovereignty and share in the value proposition of their data. Bitcoin in El Salvador and new models for economic disruption, development, and prosperity. How U.S. leaders suffered from OODA Shear in analyzing the dynamic situation in Afghanistan and the allure of framing the problem as Taliban 2.0 when we couldn't orient ourselves to ground truth. The role wargaming and red teaming can play in developing leaders that aren't as susceptible to OODA Shear. What is the Long Night? We are moving from an industrial era to a pure digital era where AI will play a role and these changes are coming at us so fast and furiously that we do not have time to think about them. In such a short span of time, technology has created new social norms, new human behaviours, new business models and new ecosystems. We as individuals, have also developed digital profiles, defined by the technological touch points we engage with every day. These touchpoints produce data that relates to predictive behaviour and this predictive behaviour will be the basis for a new economy. This combined with the future capabilities of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and a closely networked Global economy, means we have to approach problems differently today, differently than we have in the past. This episode takes a look at what Tom Koulopoulos calls “Revealing the Invisible”, the touchpoints and changes that are forcing us into a new era.
