A nostalgic look back on the 1990s, we discuss one year over three episodes chronologically starting from 1990. Mainly based on pop culture of the time we will reminisce over our favourite parts and memories of this remarkable decade. If you want to join three guys talk about the 90s from their own perspective then pull up a chair and come on in.
For our last episode of 2024, we explore a Christmas film many are not familiar with, unless you live in the USA.A Christmas Story is a staple of an American Christmas, so much so, it gets looped for forty-eight hours on its own TV channel every year. Jason and Chris attempt to try and figure out why that is and whether it will resonate with the audiences from the rest of the world. We didn't do this alone, as we were kindly sent in some voicemails from American friends who shared their memories of the film and their thoughts on why this film hasn't resonated with people outside of the states. Its time to get into the festive spirit here at The Wolfie Pod, and a miracle did happen when Jason remembered a listener requesting that we cover this TV film back in December 2023. This is very unusual for Jason, as he normally can't remember what happened yesterday, let alone a year ago; it truly is a Christmas miracle!! We invited Ben, the listener who requested this fine film and a former host of Retro Gaming Revival, to come on to the show to share his love for the film. We did have some technical issues, which meant that we had to record this conversation in quite an unauthadox fashion, and although the audio quality stands well, it meant we couldn't edit it to the standard that we would normally aim to hit. This means there are a few instances of talking over each other and a couple of other things that we couldn't remove. The quality is still high, but please just consider these instances as you listen. For the first time, Chris takes up the hosting seat to discuss his choice, which is the monumental and incredibly influential film, Toy Story. With just Chris and Jason, this ends up being a cosy chat about the film, its cast and characters and the realisation of how many layers this film actually holds. One of the reasons Chris chose this film was as a small dedication to a friend who recently died of cancer in his mid-thirties. Hundreds of Beavers is an independent film where a cider farmer suddenly ends up in the snowy wilderness, and this is his tale of survival from the elements, the local wildlife, and falling in love. We welcome Seth Sturgill to the first podcast of the new year to discuss a film that comes around only so often. Everything, Everywhere, All at Once is a special film for many reasons, which we go deep into in this very spoiler-heavy discussion, and we go as far as to say its faultless. A bold statement, but one that really holds true to this particular film. We unfortunately kick off 2024 with some audio issues, with Jason having the wrong microphone selected in the recording software. We ran this through Adobe AI, and the results are remarkable. Its not perfect, but its a 100% improvement over the original audio. I'd just like to state here that I was happy to use AI in this situation, but we are definitely not behind AI replacing real people, and that should never be the case. But please check out Seth's podcasts; they are a wonderful listen, so if you are looking for a new Nintendo podcast or just want to add another to your playlist, then you can find them at the following handy links: Big thanks to Seth for joining us; hopefully this will not be the last we hear of him. We try out something slightly new for us as we pit two films against each other through five categories. Plot, cast, writing, action and our verdict scores will help in deciding which of these films is the better one. How do we decide? Well, by each of us giving a point to the film we think did the better job in each of those categories. It was a rocky road getting to the end of this though as we were plagued by many challenges throughout the recording. You may notice a dip in audio quality as the software we used did not record the entirety in the separate tracks. This meant that we had to use the mixed single track and this resulted in a lower quality. But please don't let that put you off, as you will still be able to hear us well, we just couldn't remove some background noise and some very small sections of echo. Digitiser, the teletext video game magazine recently celebrated its 30th anniversary in Lonodn and Jason & Rich were there to join in with all the shenanigans that were happening. Here we look back at the event and the two live shows plus our appearance on stage at the Chunky Fringe event which was being run alongside Digitiser Live. During the weekend we managed to round up some interviews including Cliff Foster from N64life, we met the legend that is Carl from the Byte High No Limit podcast and we got chatting with Superpage58's Chris Bell.
