This week's show kicks off with the remainder of the interview with Abel Ganz's vocalist and guitarist, Stuart “Mick” MacFarlane. Mick even breaks out his acoustic and sings a snippet of one of the first tunes he ever wrote---and again, you can only hear it here on Prog-Watch! Following the interview, the guys play one of Mick's favorites from the latest Abel Ganz album released last year, an epic entitled “Unconditional”. In part two of the show, Tony and Dave look at a relatively new group from the Netherlands, called Sky Architect. These guys blend Symphonic and Heavy Prog elements in a manner which is sure to please fans of either sub-genre! Hew Montgomery (ex-Abel Ganz): keyboards, bass, backing vocals Joe Cairney (Comedy of Errors): vocals Bruce Levick (Comedy of Errors): drums Mark Spalding (ex-Comedy of Errors): guitar
This week Tony and Dave start things off with Karmakanic! This is a project from the Flower Kings family, with Jonas Reingold of the Kings at the helm. The guys cover the first two albums “Entering The Spectra” and “Wheel Of Life”, both of which featured lots of guest appearances by fellow Flower Kings alumni. If you like the Kings, you are going to like Karmakanic! In the second part of the show the boys begin coverage on the last couple of albums by Abel Ganz, and boy are they some good albums! Plus, they have some great interview material from current vocalist and guitarist, Stuart “Mick” MacFarlane! For more information on this week's artists, you can visit:www.reingoldmusic.com/ and www.abelganz.com/content/As always send questions, suggestions or comments to progsquatch@gmail.com. In the first part of this week's episode Tony and Dave feature music by ARC, a collaboration between UK electronic musician and composer Ian Boddy and Mark Shreeve from the UK Progressive Electronic group Red Shift. Fans of vintage Tangerine Dream will love this stuff! In the second part of the show, the guys have some exclusive new music from Grand Tour, a sort of Scottish Prog “Super-Group” featuring Joe Cairney and Bruce Levick (currently of Comedy Of Errors), Hew Montgomery (of Abel Ganz fame), and Mark Spalding (formerly of Comedy Of Errors). This stuff is really good, and you get to hear it FIRST on Prog-Watch!For more information on Ian Boddy and his various collaborations visit www.din.org.uk or www.ianboddy.comFor more information on Grand Tour you can visit www.grandtourmusic.org As always send questions, suggestions or comments to bigsquatch@verizon.net. This week the guys take a little break and leave you with a look back at some of the great bands that they featured during the first season of Prog-Watch, including Comedy Of Errors, Haken, Big Big Train, and Overhead. But it's not just a look back, since it also lays some groundwork for the next few weeks, where they will be featuring new music from Overhead and their amazing guitar player, Jaakko Kettunen, more Big Big Train, and a band called Grand Tour, which features members of Comedy of Errors and Abel Ganz! So relax and enjoy a look back at some of the finer moments from Season One, and get ready, because they have some great stuff already in the works for the new season beginning the first week of 2015! Oh, and Happy New Year!
In the beginning of this week's show the Squatch and Diamond Dave look at the early career of Scottish Neo-Prog band Abel Ganz, which featured the keyboard work of one Hew Montgomery. (We'll be talking more about Hew next month, when we preview music from his latest project, Grand Tour, which features members of another Scottish band we've covered, Comedy Of Errors. You'll hear it FIRST HERE, since the album isn't officially released until later next month!) In the second part of the show, the boys feature an interesting Norwegian band called White Willow, which is unlike anything you've ever heard on this show before. Moody, Progressive, and Folky with Symphonic touches---interesting to say the very least. And in keeping with the season, they leave you with a holiday offering from their friends in Gandalf's Fist. The track is called “The Snows They Melt The Soonest” and if you like it, you can download it FREE from their bandcamp site!“...But I heard him exclaim ere he drove out of sight, Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
