Sean Ono Lennon joins us to discuss his production of the RSD release Power To The People, a 4-song live EP by John Lennon & Yoko Ono that Sean produced from recordings made at his parents' 1972 One To One concert in New York.

Dwight Rehel a bellman at the Fairmonth Queen Elizabeth takes us on a tour of room 1742 at The Fairmonth Queen Elizabeth Hotel in downtown Montreal, where The second of two bed-ins took place. Their second bed-in was planned to take place in New York, but Lennon was not allowed into the U.S. because of his 1968 cannabis conviction.[8] Instead they intended to hold the event in the Bahamas at the Sheraton Oceanus Hotel, flying there on May 24, 1969, but after spending one night in the heat, they decided to move to Canada. They first landed in Toronto and stayed at the King Edward Hotel. They interviewed with Canadian Immigration and were granted a 10 Day Visitor Status. The choice was between Toronto and Montreal. Since they needed the New York press coverage, they decided to move it to Montreal because of its proximity to New York.[9]They flew to Montreal on May 26 where they stayed in Rooms 1738, 1740, 1742 and 1744 at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel. During their seven-day stay, they invited Timothy Leary, Tommy Smothers, Dick Gregory, Murray the K, Al Capp, Allen Ginsberg and others, and all but the hostile Capp[10] sang on the peace anthem "Give Peace a Chance", recorded by André Perry in the hotel room on June 1, 1969. Perry also recorded Lennon and Ono performing Ono's song "Remember Love" after everyone else had left the room.[11][12] The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation conducted interviews from the hotel room.[13] The event received mixed reaction from the American press.[14][15]In December 1969, Lennon and Ono spread their messages of peace with billboards reading "WAR IS OVER! If You Want It – Happy Christmas From John and Yoko". These billboards went up in eleven major world cities.Source:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bed-ins_for_Peace#galeforcewins is an inspirational podcast with New episodes every Tuesday evening on Youtube or wherever you get your podcasts. We also launched Gale Force Wins on the Rogers Television Network in St. John's on January 31st 2023 with a series of 12 episodes. You can also visit https://galeforcewins.com/To message Gerry visit: https://www.linkedin.com/in/gerrycarew/To message Allan visit: https://www.linkedin.com/in/allanadale/

Episode two of our series provides a comprehensive examination of Paul's state of mind in autumn of 1969. We discuss the deluge of problems he faces and consider how this confluence of issues triggers one of the worst episodes of Paul's life. How might this depression have impacted Paul's ability to interpret and respond to John's continuing attempts to communicate through the media? We dissect four key interviews (and a surprisingly overt personal gesture) from John, identifying and tracking the gradual evolution of his outreach to Paul as the communication gap between the two men grows ever wider and deeper. In this episode, Chris and Ryan discuss some real stinkers. First, they rip into Chris's pick- Lil Wayne's misguided foray into rock music with his universally maligned record, Rebirth. RARE & SCRATCHY ROCK 'N ROLL_138 – “THE MANY SIDES OF PHIL SPECTOR” – His remarkable career was a contrast of very good music and very bad behavior. But there's no question that Phil Spector's musical achievements across six decades beginning in 1958 and ending in 2003 earned him an indelible place in rock and roll history – and an in-depth retrospective on our little podcast series. We'll salute artists who had hit singles that were produced and/or composed by Phil Spector. Plus hit 45s on which Phil Spector performed as a singer or a studio musician. In particular, Gene Pitney, Connie Francis, the Crystals, the Ronettes, Darlene Love, the Righteous Brothers, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, and George Harrison, among many others. Phil Spector's trademark “Wall Of Sound.” was one of the most innovative, complex, and successful record production formulas of the 1960s. Our resident Rockologist, Ken Deutsch, will be along to explain how all that worked. And Radio Dave will have more of the greatest rock and roll stories on record. Hear it all here.
Has a year of lockdowns, shut cinemas and limited red carpet events changed celebrity culture forever? As attention has shifted to the pandemic and everyday heroes, some celebrities have used their platform for activism, be it supporting the NHS or Black Lives Matter, while others have seemingly forgotten their privilege and flouted Covid restrictions. In today's episode, Red Carpet veteran Minnie Stephenson delves into the past year and asks whether this is a turning point in celebrity culture? Will we ever return to the glitz and glamour of old, or is the pandemic a catalyst in the shift from the old school celeb to the modern influencer? John Lennon ve Yoko Ono'nun 1969 yılında barış adına gerçekleştirdikleri bed-in protestosunu konuştuk.
Part two of our talk with Professor Greg Marquis (John Lennon, Yoko Ono and the Year Canada was Cool). This week we dissect the bed-in, talk about giving peace a chance and consider the time a Beatle met the prime minister.
Greg Marquis specializes in Canadian history and criminal justice history at the University of New Brunswick Saint John. This week and next he sits down with the WTWF guys to discuss a specific corner of that expertise - 1969. His thesis: John Lennon's three visits to the Maple Leaf nation both reflect and amplify the position Canada held in Global headspace in that vital year.

Happy birthday, John. Happy Birthday, Sean. "Imagine North Korean missiles disintegrating in the air like dandelion dust. Imagine bright times & sunlight on your backyard tent. Imagine belly aches just from laughing too hard. Imagine bullets lodged in bodies of American school students dissolve like cotton candy on their tongues at the 7th period carnival. Imagine bubbles floating alongside humans Lost In Search Of Refuge houseless drifters praying for another day -- gotta make it just another day. War is over if you want it to be. Imagine litter morphing to seeds & peach pits & water flowers sprout from Coke cans and clouds of oxygen fill the sky." 1984 was a hell of a year. Not only did it give rise to one of the hosts of When Albums Collide, it also gave rise to Van Halen's chart smashing album '1984' and John Lennon/Yoko Ono's 'Milk and Honey' which smashed quite a bit less. Making a Scene Presents - Gerry Casey Interviews John Fiddler of Medicine Head! All those years ago when two young boys met at school little did they know the musical journey they would embark on in the years that followed. John Fiddler one half of the iconic blues rock duo Medicine Head recalls. Peter Hope Evans, and myself were new to the area, we had both started the same secondary school. I spotted Peter across the yard the thing I picked up on was he had a harmonica in his breast pocket . As john also played harmonica there was an immediate common interest. That was the beginning of a friendship that would become Medicine Head who’s fans included John Lennon Yoko Ono and many more of the major stars of the day. In this interview john unfolds his story in a heartwarming manner, one that will inspire anyone who listens to this interview. Just be yourself not what someone else thinks you should be. Once again a story you will definitely not want to miss.
These two represent a premier song writer & social activist and an Avant guard multimedia artist & social activist. He was once a front person in the biggest rock band in the world and some say the reason that this band broke up was because of her. I personally don’t think so, and feel that she got a bad rap…These two met each other at one of her art exhibitions in the United Kingdom and got married 3 years later. If you listened to our podcast last week, then you know that our couple this week is John Lennon & Yoko Ono.

Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Michael Epstein joins Nancy to discuss his film John & Yoko: Above Us Only Sky, capturing the untold story of John Lennon & Yoko Ono’s relationship, and their creative journey that brought the Imagine album to life. And in keeping with that creative solitude vibe, our Entertaining Opportunities segment features a conversation with novelist and screenwriter Anna Lefler about the upcoming competition, A Hotel Room of One’s Own: The Erma Bombeck/Anna Lefler Humorist-in-Residence Program, that offers writers an opportunity for creative solitude. Plus, Nancy’s take-away tips from this episode. Find out more about segment sponsor Rock and Romance Cruise. Find out more about the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Workshop.
Part two of the WTWF review of "Above Us Only Sky". This week, John and Yoko finish the Imagine album and film, make friends with Tariq Ali and the Red Dwarf crowd, protest and then move to New York City. Tittenhurst and Ascot are left behind (and sold to a mate), and Julian ponders on his past. A cameo from Lonnie and Susan Cooke Pena, in anticipation of his return to the show next week.
Fifty years ago, the winter of discontent had subsided a bit and spring was around the corner. Both George and Ringo expressed positive vibes to interviewers concerning the future of the band while work on the "Get Back" acetate proceeded. Meanwhile, greenery was sprouting (and getting some arrested), while the fancy of two young men in particular turned to love.
The summary of the various recent Imagine products concludes this week with a bit more of us looking at the book, and a drill down into the blu-ray and DVD release that contains both "Imagine" (the film), "Gimme Some Truth", and bonus tracks. No current laserdisc, but we do reminisce about the previous US release in that format.
Week three on the "Imagine: Ultimate Edition" box set. This week: The audio Blu-Rays. Finished with the CDs and the included book? There is still plenty more on the Blu-Rays. Additional Evolution Documentaries (mono only), Evolution mixes (mono and 5.1), highlights from John's interviews with Elliot Mintz, a new 5.1 mix of the album/extras, and even the original Quad mix. We also take the opportunity to discuss some of the less commonly available and unreleased 4.0 mixes from "back in the day".
A look at discs 2, 3 and 4 of the Imagine: Ultimate Collection box set. Album outtakes, raw studio outtakes, evolution documentaries and singles extras. That's not all, as even more of these can be found on the two Blu-Ray discs, and will be discussed in next week's show!
Most of this episode is dedicated to the remix of the "Imagine" album (and it's bonus tracks) as found on the 1-disc, 2-disc, digital and Ultimate edition box. We also spend a little time on the hardback book, talk about what it does and does not replicate from the commercial "coffee table" book, and close the show (by popular request) with a bit of chat about the Austin City Limits Festival and Sir Paul's headlining appearance!
How To Become A Rockstar Photographer Podcast with Matthias Hombauer
Imagine documenting the beginning Rock N Roll in New York including artists such as Iggy Pop, Blondie, John Lennon, Yoko Ono, KISS, Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Alice Cooper and many more sounds very exciting to me. And I guess for a lot of you who are listening right now a dream would come true if you could have experienced what Bob experienced in his career. Bob Gruen became close friends with John Lennon & Yoko Ono and his photos are known as the most iconic and most used photos of our time.
The viral success of Paul McCartney and James Corden led us to consider the Beatles appearances on American Late Night TV talk shows through the years. The story starts with Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, the Tonight Show and moves on to Dick Cavett on ABC. Walter Podrazik (co-author with Harry Castleman) of the classic Beatles books "All Together Now" (+ more) and television reference "Watching TV: Eight Decades of American Television") joins us this week and next to talk a bit about the shows, the hosts and how the Beatles moved from a punchline to politically savvy young men with something to say.
Part two of our review of 1988's "Imagine: John Lennon" documentary. This week, we cover the rest of the film including the remainder of the Ascot footage and "the Yoko Years." Remember Al Capp's invasion at the Bed-In? Gloria Emerson's haughty tone? That and more, then we then give our thoughts on how the documentary played at the time, and how it holds up nearly thirty years later.
The first of two parts covering the 1988 Imagine: John Lennon documentary. Despite the release of the Beatles catalog the previous year, all was not well in the land of Lennon. The Albert Goldman character assasination disguised as biography came out early in 1988, and some fans still held hard feelings over Yoko's approval of the Nike "Revolution" spot. The best solution would be to bring John's two biggest strengths - his life, and his music to the fore. Both would be serviced by a major motion picture including a peek into the Lennon video archives, new interviews with people close to Lennon (but NOT the other three Beatles), unheard (to that point) Lennon home demos and remixed versions of classic Lennon and Beatles tunes, This week the first half of the film, covering most of the Beatles years and the Tittenhurst Park footage. Continued next week!
Our very special guest this week is Elliot Mintz, who is known, among his many accomplishments, for his long association with John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and Julian Lennon and his hosting of the landmark "The Lost Lennon Tapes" series. He talks about all of that and much more in this show this week with Steve Marinucci, Ken Michaels and Allan Kozinn. 1986 was a year of transition for the former Beatles. The Lennon estate gave the world two legitimate discs from the archive as an appetizer for years to come. Julian released his secod disc "The Secret Value of Daydreaming", and conined his own world tour. George Harrison took some steps toward a return to the madness that is the music business. Some musical work was done for the "Shanghai Surprise" film soundtrack, but for the most part, the big story was tales of fights among Madonna and Sean Penn.
I read the news today, have you? We cover some recent happenings in and around the Beatles world. Remember "The Beatles vs. Don Ho?" Who was the man behind that label, what else did he do, and what famous friends did he have? Second, we take a look at Geoff Emerick's stage play "The Beatles: Sessions" that debuted at the Albert Hall, and end with several more topics in speed round.

Author and Cultural Change Agent Gregory Sams talks about opening the very first natural food shop & restaurant in London in the late 1960s, hanging out with John Lennon & Yoko Ono, why he created and then sold the famous Vegeburger, his two books "Uncommon Sense" & "Sun of gOd", and how enacting cultural change begins by altering your own behaviour.
