Joe's now watched two more episodes of Clarkson's Farm - and is absolutely loving it! So he and David are back to discuss even more about the show and the man himself, Jeremy Clarkson. They're both a little bit in awe of him but are now seriously regretting having a go at his Top Gear and Grand Tour shows. And wonder if they've blown their chances of him ever wanting to be a guest on Chatabix. Later in the show, they imagine what it would be like to appear on Clarkson's Farm themselves and also come up with a plan to teach him about podcasting. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/audio-libros-master/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Perspective with Heather duPlessis-Allan: The police did the right thing by agreeing to the bridge march

Weather aside, I actually think police did do the right thing saying yes to that march taking place across the harbour Bridge, which will now not take place tomorrow but at a later date. My biggest problem with it would be that it would set a precedent, but it's actually not setting a precedent because the precedent was probably already set last year by the anti-Treaty principles Hikoi, which happened in November. And now as a result, we are dealing with the predictable problem of letting one protest walk across, which means that we have to let every major protest walk across if they want to. So here we find ourselves. But I do think, having said all of that, I do think it is the right thing to do because what it is doing is allowing a controlled protest to take place that will achieve what the protest organizers want, which is big publicity to draw attention to what's happening in Gaza. Now, a protest across the harbour bridge is surely a better outcome than protesters finding other ways to get the same kind of publicity. I mean, this week in Spain, look what's happened. The protesters disrupted the Grand Tour so many times that there is now talk that the race may be abandoned before the final leg is finished on Sunday. I would much rather just have a march across the harbour Bridge. A lawyer in Auckland has just been convicted for vandalizing politicians' electorate offices with red paint, including Christopher Luxon's. I would rather that she just put down her paint and went for a march across the harbour Bridge. In a way, the real precedent actually has been set by Sydney where they allowed the protesters to cross their harbour Bridge in August. Now, really, put yourself in the position of the police. How could they say no when it had already happened in Sydney? So I know whenever this finally does happen, it's not going to be popular. Disruptions never are popular, but all things considered, with the available options, I think it was the right thing to do.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Alfonsina Strada (1891-1959) was an Italian cyclist and the first and only woman to compete in a men’s cycling Grand Tour. In an era when women were discouraged from sports, Alfonsina took up cycling at a young age and earned the local moniker “devil in the dress” for her fervor. In 1924, she entered the prestigious Giro D’Italia under the name “Alfonsin.” She was eventually disqualified from the race, but completed the entire 3,613 km route through brutal weather and became a national sensation. The Jacobites and the Grand Tour: Educational travel and small-states' diplomacy (Manchester University Press, 2025) by Dr. Jérémy Filet is the first monograph to fully examine the intersecting networks of Jacobites and travellers to the continent. In the book, Dr. Filet considers how small states used official diplomacy and deployed soft power - embodied by educational academies - to achieve foreign policy goals. This work uses little-known archival materials to explain how and why certain small states secretly supported the Jacobite cause during the crucial years surrounding the 1715 rising, while others stayed out of Jacobite affairs. The book demonstrates how early modern small states sought to cultivate good relations with Britain by attracting travellers as part of a wider trend of ensuring connections with future diplomats or politicians in case a Stuart restoration never came. This publication therefore brings together a study of Britain, small states, Jacobitism, and educational travel, in its nexus at continental academies. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. This publication therefore brings together a study of Britain, small states, Jacobitism, and educational travel, in its nexus at continental academies.

Or will Pogačar's UAE team-mates Juan Ayuso and João Almeida still be able to thwart the Dane and his Visma-Lease a Bike team? The Race Communiqué: Why the Vuelta is the Best Grand Tour & Durbo's Transfer Gossip

Just because the Tour de France is over, doesn't mean the party's over! I'm back with Tom Southam and Luke Durbridge for this month's Race Communique. Tom and Luke have just got back from a puncture-filled Hamburg Classic, and the Vuelta a España is about to kick off! I love the Vuelta - it's the Grand Tour I raced the most in my career, and I've got to say it's my favourite. Southam and Durbo disagree, so we kick off by having a three-way head-to-head: Giro VS Tour VS Vuelta. Which is best, and why? I made my case for the Vuelta, the hardest Grand Tour by a long way…as far as I'm concerned. Luke reckons the Tour is the best because, well, because it's the Tour. The Giro's case was made by Southam, who just loves the drama - he's obviously never watched the Vuelta! In this month's PeloChat, Durbo goes through this year's transfers and gives us his take on who's going where, why they're moving, and what it might mean for the sport. Remco to Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe is the biggest move of the year, and the young Belgian superstar has definitely raised some eyebrows by moving. Will he clash with Roglič? Will they be able to support him to win the Tour de France? Only time will tell. Luke's teammates Dylan Groenewegen and Elmar Reinders are stepping down to TDT Unibet - a second division ProTeam! An interesting move in an effort to get the young Dutch squad to the Tour de France in the next few years. He's also got some insight into Tom Pidcock's Q36.5's squad and their signings; some big riders heading that way too. Lots of moves, but Durbo's across it. Southam's diving into the modern breakaway in this month's Talking Tactics. Things have changed a hell of a lot over the last few years in the breakaway; we don't see 20-minute time gaps any more, and the breaks are kept on a much tighter leash. As the level gets higher and higher, the quality of the lower division teams is getting better and better, and smaller riders are more of a threat in the breakaways these days. It's great, and I love the exciting racing where the breaks actually have a chance, but shit, it looks so hard. Of course, we wind up with the Communiquiz. Tom's quiz master this week, and it's about Summer Classics. You'll have to listen to the episode to hear how this goes, but let's just say…I had a bit of a shocker. Guys, I hope you like this episode. I love catching up with Durbo and Southam, especially when they're in the midst of the racing season; bringing you this insight is what it's all about. What are the tactical and interpersonal challenges of orchestrating resources and labor, all in pursuit of a singular artistic vision? Devika explored these questions with the two directors, who reflected on the making of their most recent films—last year's Grand Tour for Gomes, and Dry Leaf, which premiered at this year's festival, for Koberidze.  Please note that the audio quality isn't up to our usual standards due to technical problems during the recording.

Brent shares his unforgettable experience helping Cadel Evans win the 2011 Tour de France, reflects on the evolution of team dynamics in pro cycling, and breaks down how the sport is shifting with the rise of data and the emergence of the next generation of riders. He also opens up about his own transition from elite racing to coaching, the role of mental fitness, and what it really means to support athlete well-being, especially during pivotal life and career transitions.Big thanks to my producer and friend Anthony Palmer of Palm Tree Pod Co. for joining in on the conversation as well.Be sure to catch Brent daily on Peacock throughout July as he covers the Tour de France, and check out his website to learn more about his coaching services. - - - - - - - - - - -A big thanks to our sponsors:RELEVATE by NeuroReserve: Go to www.neuroreserve.com/travismacy and code TRAVISMACY for 15% off RELEVATE by NeuroReserve: Core Dietary Nutrients for Lifelong Brain HealthHagan Ski Mountaineering- - - - - - - - - - -Purchase A Mile at A Time: A Father and Son's Inspiring Alzheimer's Journey of Love, Adventure, and HopeSubscribe: Apple Podcast | SpotifyCheck us out: Instagram | Twitter | Website | YouTubeThe show is produced and edited by Palm Tree Pod Co

Critics at Large | The New Yorker

It's a confusing time to travel. Tourism is projected to hit record-breaking levels this year, and its toll on the culture and ecosystems of popular vacation spots is increasingly hard to ignore. Social media pushes hoards to places unable to withstand the traffic, while the rise of “last-chance” travel—the rush to see melting glaciers or deteriorating coral reefs before they're gone forever—has turned the precarity of these destinations into a selling point. On this episode of Critics at Large, Vinson Cunningham, Naomi Fry, and Alexandra Schwartz explore the question of why we travel. They trace the rich history of travel narratives, from the memoirs of Marco Polo and nineteenth-century accounts of the Grand Tour to shows like Anthony Bourdain's “Parts Unknown” and HBO's “The White Lotus.” Why are we compelled to pack a bag and set off, given the growing number of reasons not to do so? “One thing that's really important for me as a traveller is the experience of being foreign,” Schwartz says. “I'm starting to realize that there are places I may never go, and this has actually made other people's accounts of them, in the deeper sense, more important.”This episode originally aired on June 13, 2024. Read, watch, and listen with the critics:“The New Tourist,” by Paige McClanahanThe “Lonely Planet” guidebooks“The Travels of Marco Polo,” by Rustichello da Pisa“Of Travel,” by Francis Bacon“The Innocents Abroad,” by Mark Twain“Self-Reliance,” by Ralph Waldo Emerson“Travels through France and Italy,” by Tobias Smollett“Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown” (2013-18)“The White Lotus” (2021—)“Conan O'Brien Must Go” (2024)“It Just Got Easier to Visit a Vanishing Glacier. Henry Bolingbroke, exasperated at the parochial pettiness of Richard II's court, decides it's time to get out. After proving his mettle with the greatest warrior in the western world, he embarks on a whistle-stop tour of the known world to smash pagans and shop for exotic animals. He comes back to England on a high and sees the fruits of his growing family — one that already overshadows Richard II's.
