This week on the Get More Smarter Podcast, 2021 is already on track to set the record for mass shootings in the USA. It's Earth Day, Week, and Month here in snowy Colorado in late April. The Colorado option gets confusing for people who don't want you to have healthcare, and we discover that the Colorado January 6th Insurrectionist, state Rep. Ron Hanks, has a seriously racist misunderstanding of history and the constitution. We keep shouting WHAT THE BUCK about the jingoistic America First Caucus which may or may not include our 7th favorite congressperson from Colorado, Lauren Boebert.Tell your legislator to support climate legislation: bit.ly/coclimate.*Producer's note: We recorded this episode before the guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial for the murder of George Floyd, so we don't discuss it in the episode.

This week we shut down the America First Caucus, designed to “protect Anglo-Saxon traditions,” and the garbage monsters who are now trying to distance themselves from it. Demi Lovato deployed asymmetrical warfare against a mom-and-pop frozen yogurt joint. A mystery animal that terrified a neighborhood in Krakow, Poland wound up being a croissant. And finally, in honor of 4/20, we look at the wave of cannabinoid hyperemisis–aka scromiting–that Tucker Carlson believes is sweeping the nation. On this week's episode, Bill and Phil discuss immigration and the contrast between George W. Bush's call for tolerance and the far-right America First Caucus's call for a revival of Anglo-Saxon political traditions. We then examine Russia's military buildup on the Ukrainian border and close with a look at the data from this year's World Happiness Report.
This Week! Benedict is really really sorry, no really, he promises, because he forgot his copy of the book so we were forced to do another interstitial episode. We reviewed the recently leaked policy platform for the America First Caucus, which is far worse than what you've seen in the media. Thanks as Always for listening and enjoy the show! Back when Lewis was barely AARP age-eligible, US forces invaded Afghanistan and now, nearly 20 years later, your esteemed host is fully qualified for Social Security. And come September, the US military will have fully withdrawn from the Central/South Asian Republic. What did it all mean? Did the US occupation amount to anything? From having done three USO tours there, Lewis has some personal observations: The experience of being there was a truly life-changing experience, akin to an insane LSD trip (not in a bad way); the level of sacrifice from the soldiers there, whatever the justification of the mission, was astonishing; and that saying “thank you” to those who served is meaningless without actually supporting the troops with whatever they need once they return stateside. In other news this week, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip passed away and so did Ponzi scheme perfecter Bernie Madoff. Lewis was once in an ABC miniseries about the latter which featured Richard Dreyfus as Bernie and Blythe Danner as his wife, an experience Lewis felt made drama school finally worth it. Many Republicans have stepped in to fill the chaos void left by the former leader, typified by the proposed America First Caucus, a group of representatives keen on returning the US to its supposed Anglo-Saxon roots. Lewis has a modest proposal for them: if they want to return to a pre-21st century time, let’s take some of that infrastructure money, build a time machine, and send them back to whatever time period they would feel comfortable in. Maybe a plantation would do. After the mass shootings a few weeks ago, Lewis went on a rant of his own about the need for common sense gun control legislation, and as part of that, asked for rebuttal submissions. So we start this week’s rants with a counter response averring that many proposals to curb gun violence by restricting gun ownership are based on false premises. From there things perk up a bit with rants about the inanity of planning an indoor surprise party during the pandemic, packages being delivered to the wrong address, personal products application confusion, mask wearing, running a small business during the pandemic, and roundabouts. Plus, the rubber chicken controversy continues. John Burris, civil rights attorney, joins us to discuss the Derek Chauvin trial results. Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murdering George Floyd. The jury deliberated for approximately one day, and found Chauvin guilty of all charges levied against him. Dr. Emmit Riley, political scientist and assistant professor of Africana Studies at DePauw University, joins us to discuss the Derek Chauvin trial. The discussion revolves around the current and long-term social and legal impact of the guilty finding. Is this example of police personnel testifying against a fellow officer a harbinger of things to come, or an anomaly that only happens in the most egregious examples of police misconduct?Mark Sleboda, a Moscow-based international relations security analyst, joins us to discuss Russian President Vladimir Putin's address to the Federal Assembly. Putin's address focused principally on domestic issues, such as the coronavirus response and the prospects for subsequent economic recovery. However, he also urged other nations to refrain from crossing Russia's geopolitical "red lines." Nick Davies, peace activist and author of "Blood on Our Hands, the American Invasion of Iraq," joins us to discuss Chinese President Xi's recent speech. Speaking virtually at the "Boao Forum for Asia," Xi's remarks that "no nation should dictate global rules or interfere in the internal affairs of other nations," was clearly directed towards the United States.Gerald Horne, professor of history at the University of Houston, author, historian, and researcher, joins us to discuss the America First Caucus. A movement for a GOP-led "America First" caucus in Congress is flailing, as major pushback has occurred shortly after its manifesto was revealed. The document has the appearance of a cookie-cutter GOP policy platform with a sprinkle of Trump-style right-wing populism. Chris Hedges, author, speaker, and investigative journalist, joins us to discuss his latest article "The Unraveling of the American Empire." Hedges argues that the pattern of stumbling from one military debacle to another is a sign of a crumbling empire. He sees Afghanistan as "one in a string of catastrophic military blunders that herald the death of the American empire." Scott Ritter, former UN weapon inspector in Iraq, joins us to discuss Israel's attempts to stop the US from returning to the Iran nuclear deal. Israel's recent moves have been brilliantly countered by Iran in a dangerous chess game that has left America's Middle East proxy with few options. Iran's latest move to enrich uranium at 60% in response to Israel's attack on their Natanz nuclear facility has made it more important for the US to return to the agreement.Ray McGovern, former CIA analyst and co-founder of the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity, joins us to discuss Caitlin Johnston's latest article on the CIA's influence on the media. Johnstone argues that the CIA no longer needs to infiltrate or influence the media because most of the media partners directly with the nefarious organization.
We're back again to revive the podcast as our high school journey reaches its close. Jim's away! We can finally speak the truth! Instead, we talk about Biden's pull-out game in Afghanistan, uncover some decent takes in the America First Caucus policy platform, and discuss Texas's plan to send parents of transgender youth to prison for supporting their kids. Then, we set the record straight on the Army's SHARP program and why it sucks. This one gets heavy. Also, Mandy claims that the first Jackass movie healed the nation after 9/11. Marjory Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar are back peddling after an alleged draft of their America First Caucus statements got out showcasing straight up fascist and racist ideals. #AngloSaxon is trending. Why? Becuase the media is bold-faced ly. ing about the #AmericaFirstCaucus. We cover that in the Second half, and before that we discuss the ongoing BLM and Antifa riots across the country and the #GreatMigration the media is trying to spin as #ClimateDisplacement when it's really Political-Geographic Polarization.Source Links:https://www.thehollownet.com/2021/04/america-first-caucus-policy-platform.htmlhttps://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-house-republican-effort-form-america-first-caucus-raises-hackles-over-race-2021-04-16/https://thegoptimes.com/here-it-comes-packing-of-scotus-begins-with-4-extra-justices/https://thegoptimes.com/biden-makes-his-most-sinister-move-yet-dominate-the-government-completely/https://patriotunitednews.com/stiletto-street-fighter-stops-court-packing-in-its-tracks/https://thehill.com/homenews/house/548731-pro-trump-lawmakers-form-caucus-to-promote-anglo-saxon-political-traditionshttps://thehill.com/homenews/house/548788-kinzinger-republicans-who-join-america-first-caucus-should-be-stripped-of?rl=1https://www.politico.com/news/2021/04/16/kevin-mccarthy-maga-caucus-482607https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/16/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-america-first-caucus/index.htmlhttps://www.azcentral.com/story/opinion/op-ed/elviadiaz/2021/04/16/neo-nazis-rally-phoenix-no-coincidence-with-gosar-caucus/7259304002/Support Links:http://www.preparewithmojo50.comhttps://americanprideroasters.com/https://www.mypillow.com/http://mojo50solar.com/https://teespring.com/stores/the-hollownet-storehttps://www.patreon.com/TheHollowNethttps://www.subscribestar.com/the-hollownet
