In this episode of One Symphony with conductor Devin Patrick Hughes, Devin has an inspiring conversation with bass virtuoso and composer Kebra Seyoun Charles. From their early exposure to African drumming and gospel music to becoming a celebrated classical musician, Charles shares their unique journey and vision for the future of classical music through their "Counter Classical" style. Charles's work embodies a fresh perspective on classical music's future, one that honors tradition while embracing innovation and inclusivity. Their approach shows that classical music's evolution doesn't require abandoning its foundations, but rather expanding its boundaries to embrace diverse influences and experiences. As they put it, "Classical music is so beautiful and so ephemeral and it can't be contained." Charles explores growing up in a musical household and how that led to their disvoery of the film composer, Erich Woflgang Korngold. They also discuss the autobiographical ballet project, Enby, that's based on their experience as a nonbinary person developing in the world. Kebra-Seyoun Charles is able to give prominence to the dance qualities in all forms of music. Kebra-Seyoun has performed alongside esteemed improvisers and composers such as Jon Batiste, at Carnegie Hall, and Tyshawn Sorey, at the New England Conservatory. Kebra-Seyoun was also featured in “Slugs' Saloon” at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, an interactive installation created by famed jazz musician and composer Jason Moran. Kebra-Seyoun Charles is also a passionate chamber musician. Playing with groups like East Coast Chamber Orchestra, A Far Cry, Palaver Strings, and the Sphinx Virtuosi afford Kebra the opportunity to showcase virtuosity while still playing within an ensemble. A prime example of this is their tenure on the 2019 Emmy award-winning Broadway production “Hadestown”. Thank you for joining us on One Symphony. Thanks to Kebra-Seyoun Charles for sharing their amazing spirit and music-making. You can find more info at https://www.kscharles.com. Recordings from the episode include: Koussevitsky: Concerto for Double Bass, First Movement. Featuring Kebra-Seyoun Charles on Double Bass. Performed with the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Benjamin Zander conducting. Dating in NY. Composed by Kebra-Seyoun Charles. Featuring Charles on bass and musicians from the Juilliard School. The third movement from Andres Martin's Bass Concerto. Performed by Charles with the New World Symphony under the direction of Chad Goodman. First movement from Erich Korngold's Piano Quintet, op. 15. Performed by the ARC Ensemble from the Royal Conservatory, Toronto. Erich Korngold's Cello Concerto in One Movement. Featuring Victor Julien-Laferrière on cello performing with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony. Conducted by Marie Jacquot. “Another Breakup Song.” Composed by Kebra-seyoun Charles. Featuring Charles on bass. Kayla Williams on viola, Joseph Brent on mandolin, Sommer Alteir on violin, and Kabir Adiya-Kumar on percussion. “Galaxy,” composed by Xavier Foley. In today's lesson we will cover QPoint 3.6, PERSUASION, of the Lead Right Series, The Initiation of First Movement. QSource is F3's leadership philosophy and it is designed to be used by F3 members to improve their leadership skills for the benefit of their families, workplaces, and neighborhoods, BUT QSource is based on timeless principles useful for any group that wants to improve leadership skills. Leadership is a skill that a person must learn and master during their lifetime. Because it is a skill, a person must commit to learning to lead in the same way that you would learn anything, with practice. The degree to which you will ultimately master it will depend both upon your natural ability and your willingness to practice. Because we are all born with some leadership ability, even a man with very little natural skill can still be an effective leader if he is willing to practice hard. But a man who will not practice at all will never master the skill. The decision to become an effective leader is your choice. No one else can make it for you.

Eliot and Eric welcome Jacob Heilbrunn, editor of The National Interest, non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council's Eurasia Center, and author of America Last: The Right's Century Long Romance with Foreign Dictators. They discuss the origin story of "America First" during the First World War when critic and satirist H.L. Mencken and German-American propagandist (and paid agent) George Sylvester Viereck led the charge against American intervention in the Great War and how both played roles in the 30s and early 40s America First movement to prevent FDR from aiding the Allies. They discuss the hostility of America Firsters to the liberal tradition in America, its connection to anti-Semitism, William F. Buckley's role and evolution on anti-Semitism, Jeanne Kirkpatrick's views on authoritarianism and totalitarianism and the left's own tradition of admiration for tyrants as well as how these tendencies are reflected in today's MAGA movement. North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is dangerous for America's Left. An undeniably black, Christian conservative with the same energy and working-class appeal as President Donald Trump is the Democrats' and mainstream media's worst nightmare. How do we know? Because both the liberal establishment and their propagandist media have already begun the attacks, giving Robinson the Trump treatment. With a primary win on Super Tuesday, Robinson seems to be on his way to claiming the governor's seat in Raleigh and Jason believes perhaps the White House in 2028. “Mark Robinson could be Harriet Tubman, he could be Nat Turner. He could be the one that frees the slaves from the Democrat Plantation.” T.J. Witness a historic moment unfold as I unpack the resonating victory of President Donald J. Trump in a recent caucus, a testament to the enduring spirit of the America First movement. The numbers speak volumes, with Trump clinching over half the votes, while strong contenders like Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley remain in the backdrop. During our discussion, I lay out the case for unity, arguing that Trump's unique blend of perseverance and policy innovation positions him as the ideal figure to navigate America's complex landscape. I walk through Trump's key achievements and how his resilience in the face of legal strife solidifies his commitment to the nation's foundational values. The energy around his campaign is palpable, with influential figures lining up in support—a momentum we anticipate will only swell as the focus shifts to New Hampshire and states to follow. In a broader sense, the episode traverses the ground where politics and spiritual leadership intersect, spotlighting the profound need for leaders who can bridge divides with a healing touch. The church, an influential institution in America, is summoned to play a crucial role in fostering forgiveness and love, qualities that should be mirrored in our national leadership. I call upon figures of authority across all walks of life to embody these virtues, to rise with compassion and integrity, and to instigate a movement of unity that transcends mere words. This is a clarion call for a leadership paradigm rooted in benevolence, one that not only guides the church but also shapes the future of our great nation. Now Arthur Snell takes stock of the war so far. Ukraine's fight for freedom could preserves the security of Europe's hinterlands, and Russia's failures have shown how NOT to fight a war. Telling the history of the war that's reshaping the world. In Ep.5: As Putin's assault falters and his army degenerates into retreat and atrocity, Russia's self-image as a bulwark against fascism falls into tatters. Arthur Snell looks at the incompetence, factionalism, corruption and failure to plan which created this debacle – how Russia remains obsessed with the Great Patriotic War – how Chechnya and Georgia provided dry runs for Ukraine — and the cocktail of self-destructive impulses, self-pity and authority-worship that still drive ordinary Russians to support the war. On today's episode, Fast Five Hosts Danielle Kirsh and Sean Whooley discuss new data from Biosense Webster's radiofrequency ablation system. The study results suggest better treatment of atrial fibrillation using the company's QDOT catheter. This breakthrough technology offers promising results for patients suffering from this common heart rhythm disorder, providing new possibilities for more effective treatment options. BrainsWay has launched a study program aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of its deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS) technology. The technology is used to treat several neurological and psychiatric conditions, including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and smoking cessation. Whooley gives an inside look at how the technology works and what the company hopes to achieve in the study. Continuous glucose monitoring maker Dexcom has released new clinical evidence supporting the use of its G6 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system in Japan. The G6 CGM system is designed to help people with diabetes manage their glucose levels by providing real-time glucose readings, and the new data could be a big step for diabetes management in Japan. Fast Five hosts Kirsh and Whooley discuss the results of the study and what it means for people living with diabetes. Onward Medical has completed the first-in-human use of its implantable lead device for restoring movement in people with spinal cord injuries. The initial results are promising, with patients demonstrating improved control and quality of life. Whooley details how the technology works and what more is to come from the company. New reports are suggesting that medical device giants Medtronic and Johnson & Johnson are both considering acquiring Shockwave Medical. The acquisition would give both companies access to cutting-edge technology that has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of cardiovascular disease. Hosts Kirsh and Whooley give more insight into the speculated bids. Check out the show notes at MassDevice.com/podcast.
Warning: The episode contains distressing material. In Ep.3 of our history of Putin's war: As the Russian assault stalls, the Ukrainian city of Mariupol becomes a source of humiliation for Putin. He resolves to obliterate it and its people. War crimes on the scale of WWII ensue. Arthur Snell talks to journalists, eyewitnesses and campaigners to reveal the enormity of Russian atrocities across Ukraine – the targeting of hospitals and children – and the forced disappearances and murders of Ukrainian resisters. This is the story of how the self-declared “anti-Nazi” Russian army brought mobile crematoria and mass killing into the heart of Ukraine… and what is being done to bring those responsible to justice. He is killing our children.” – Evgeniy Maloletka “Ukraine used attritional defence to bleed – literally bleed – the Russians of men and material.” – Mike Martin “This felt like the V1 and V2 attacks on British civilians during the Second World War. Telling the history of a war that's reshaping the world. In Ep.2: Russia thought they'd take Kyiv in three days. Instead Putin's invasion has gone down as one of the most infamous fiascos in military history – while Ukraine's courage and fighting skill has stunned the world. How did Putin get it so wrong? And how did Zelenskyy's defiance transform the conflict? Arthur Snell talks to military analysts and historians to unearth the truth about the pivotal first weeks of the war: catastrophe for Russia, glory for Ukraine. Behind the cruelty and monstrous waste a strange question emerges: Did a dysfunctional, shambolic Russia really intend to invade Ukraine at all? What they did bring was parade uniforms to march through Kyiv when it was all over.” – Peter Caddick-Addams “The Russian FSB spent vast sums of money preparing for the collapse of the Ukrainian Government, which they confidently expected…” – Arthur Snell “ Putin is a very 19th-century figure. He believes that Russia has a birthright to be a great power.“ – Mark Galeotti “The experience of any Russian who lived through the 1990s is that reality can disappear around you at any time. People learned to negotiate chaos.“– Peter Pomerantsev “The central Russian experience is the Great Patriotic War… They think their moral right to dictate to others comes from 1945.” – Jade McGlynn Photograph courtesy Ceng Shou Yi/NurPhoto Incidental music in order of appearance: Gustav Mahler's Symphony Number 5 performed by Jason Weinberger and the WCF Symphony Gustav Mahler's Symphony Number 9 (First Movement) performed by the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra ‘Thy Resurrection' performed by the Music of Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery ‘The Blessed I Have Already Chosen' by Maksym Berezovsky, performed by Kyiv Chamber Choir Written and presented by Arthur Snell. We wrap up our four part series on the Australia First Movement. There's one final inquiry, led by Justice Clyne, to investigate the internments. We look at what happened to some of the key people after the War and ask what to make of it all? Finally, it's ANZAC Day, the day Australians and New Zealanders commemorate those who have served in war. You can email me at jamesdampier.awp@gmail.com
Following the internments of Australia First members, there is disquiet about why, in a democracy, people could be detained without trial. Some appeal against their internment. The Government establishes a number of inquiries and most internees are released over 1942. Except, that is, for Percy Stephensen and a few others. Ben sits down with The Vice Chairman of the America First Policy Institute Center for American Security, Frederick Fleitz. They discuss where a future administration could build upon former President Trump's foreign policy accomplishments. Plus, they look at how leaders can go about thinning out a federal bureaucracy that would work to undermine America First policies at every turn. Later, Ben gives his perspective on the dueling opinions coming out of a Washington, D.C., and Texas court on the legalities around medication-induced abortion. The security forces, police and political leaders take a close interest in Australia First members. After WWII is declared the Publicist ceases and there is public opposition to Australia First, particularly in Sydney. In Western Australia the police send in an undercover agent and get evidence of a conspiracy to suport a Japanese invasion, sabotage and the assassination of public officials. The police swoop and arrest key Australia First members on 9 March 1942. Check out Barbara Winter's book 'The Australia First Movement, Dreaming of a National Socialist Australia'. On 9 March 1942 four people were arrested in Perth on suspicion of a plot to contact the Japanese armed forces to help with a Japanese invasion and to assassinate public officials. They had formed an organisation called the Australia-First Group. A few days later 16 people, members of the Australia First Movement, were arrested in Sydney. In Parliament they were all denounced as traitors – because WWII was underway and Australia was in fear of a Japanese invasion. Two were sentenced to prison and most of the others were secretly interned for the duration of the war.

Do you remember the Tea Party? The once-powerful loose group of patriots who were fed up with Barack Obama and the Democrats died a much earlier death than most realize. Most thought it was the election of Donald Trump that sent many conservatives back into their day-to-day lives, content that the mission had been accomplished. But as those of us who were paying attention the whole time realized, the Trump victory in 2016 was just an excuse for accepting the death of a movement that had been a shell of itself for a couple of years.Yesterday's loss by Herschel Walker in Georgia marked the culmination of the plans of the Uniparty Swamp to strike down the ideological successor to the Tea Party: The America First movement. While this movement has many names, most notably "MAGA Republicans," it was no less influential than the Tea Party. The difference is that the America First movement lacked leadership while the Tea Party had too much leadership. The America First movement has lacked direction while the Tea Party went in a dozen different directions at once.Unfortunately, the America First movement is on life support before it really had time to shine. In the short term, that's horrible news for patriots who are sick of the Uniparty Swamp. But where this goes in the long term will be determined by what happens now in the aftermath of the midterm elections. Will patriots accept that the Republican Establishment has quelled the uprising of people who actually love their country, or will we double and triple our efforts to truly take back our nation?I'm choosing the latter. If you do as well, the question then becomes how? On today's episode of The JD Rucker Show, I'll explore what went wrong in 2022, what challenges we face in rebuilding the movement, and how to overcome them.Check out our new conservative aggregator, https://discernreport.com

About This Episode: Daughter of a long line of Army officers, in 1976 Lt. Col. Wendy Rogers was commissioned as a 5th-generation military officer into the Air Force. In 1981, Wendy Rogers became one of the first 100 women pilots in today's Air Force by earning her wings at Williams AFB in Arizona. Following Air Force jet training, Wendy piloted worldwide airlift and humanitarian missions in the C-141 transport jet for several years. Wendy then served as a flight instructor for cadets at the US Air Force Academy. She finished her career with over 3,000 hours of jet time and numerous commendations, including the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Air Force in 1996 after twenty years of active duty, Wendy and her husband Hal (also a retired Air Force officer) started their own home inspection business. Wendy Rogers is uniquely able to serve the needs of Legislative District 6 because she is able to pilot her own aircraft into many of the short-field runways in remote rural areas. Lt. Col. Rogers was elected to the Arizona State Senate in January 2021 and has been instrumental to the election integrity and America First movement. Find out more about Lt. Col.
