This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit zeteo.comOn the day after Zohran Mamdani's historic election win, what better ‘We're Not Kidding' guest could we ask for than New York City icon Ilana Glazer? The Jewish-American comedian, activist, and ‘Broad City' creator joined Mehdi in midtown Manhattan to talk about what Mamdani's victory means for the future of US politics. The two also discuss the recent failures of the Democratic party and whether Mamdani's win has the power to finally push party leadership to embrace its populist flank. “Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries were not there celebrating last night,” Ilana says. “A Democratic mayor won. They should be there celebrating.” They also talk about someone else who was definitely not celebrating on election night — Debra Messing and her very public Instagram crash out.Ilana opens up to Mehdi about her feelings around the modern Jewish identity, particularly since Oct. 7. The two also discuss the weaponization of antisemitism by figures like Jonathan Greenblatt (who has already announced the Anti-Defamation League's ‘Mamdani Monitor' to purportedly “keep Jewish New Yorkers safe”), while simultaneously ignoring the dangers of right-wing antisemitism espoused by people like Nick Fuentes and Tucker Carlson. Finally, Mehdi asks Ilana about speaking out against Israel's genocide in Gaza and the risks of receiving backlash or being censored.Subscribe to Zeteo to support independent and unfiltered journalism: https://zeteo.com/subscribeWatch, listen and subscribe to ‘We're Not Kidding' on Substack: https://zeteo.com/s/were-not-kidding-with-mehdi-and-friendsFind Zeteo:Twitter: https://twitter.com/zeteo_newsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeteonewsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zeteonewsFind Mehdi:Substack: https://substack.com/@mehdirhasanTwitter: https://twitter.com/@mehdirhasanInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/@mehdirhasanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mehdirhasanCredits:Hosted by: Mehdi HasanGuest Host: Ilana GlazerExecutive Producer: Kiran AlviSenior Producer and Editor: Frank CappelloMusic: Andy ClausenDesign: Alicia TatoneMix Engineer: Valentino RiveraTitle Animation: Ehsaan Mesghali

To hear more, visit zeteo.comMainstream Democrats appear to have little to no plan on how to win back Michigan's Arab American voters, after losing them in record numbers during last year's election. However, Michigan's Progressive US Senate Candidate Abdul El-Sayed may have an answer. In this ‘Mehdi Unfiltered' interview, the Bernie-backed candidate tells Mehdi why he believes he is the “only” Democrat who can win Michigan's US Senate seat in next year's midterms and what it will take to win back those who abandoned Democrats last year due to the party's support for Israel's war in Gaza.“The way that we get back the people that we lost is to have a galvanizing fight…one where we understand that the same system that is corrupting our politics to send our money abroad to buy other countries' tanks and wage a genocide is the same system that's corrupting out healthcare system,” El-Sayed says to Mehdi.Mehdi and El-Sayed cover a wide range of issues in their discussion, including:* Whether El-Sayed is worried about AIPAC targeting him (“Michiganders are sick and tired of being told who they can and cannot vote for”)* Democrats failure to have a full reckoning over Gaza's role during last year's election (“It didn't go far enough”)* El-Sayed's “Medicare for All” campaign (“We have to do the work of persuasion”)Oh, and don't miss out on hearing which Democratic president encouraged El-Sayed to consider a career in politics.Paid subscribers can watch the full interview. Asr-ı Saadet ve kıyâmete yakın Hz.İsa (a.s.) ve Hz. Mehdi Âl-î Resûl devirleri hariç, gerçek hoşgörü sadece Osmanlı devrinde yaşandı. Batı medeniyeti dışlayıcıdır. İslâm medeniyeti ise kucaklayıcıdır. Selçuklu ve onun mirası üzerine kurulan 636 yıllık Osmanlı hükümranlığının başlıca iki özelliği vardır: “Kurucu ve koruyucu” olmak. Osmanlı'nın İslâm'a hizmeti Ashâb-ı Kiram (r.a.e.)'den sonra, makamları ise Tabiin (r.a.e.)'den sonra gelir. Oysa Batı medeniyet anlayışı iki temel üzerine kuruludur: 1. Asimilasyon, kendi kültür potasında eriterek kendine benzetmek ve yok etmek. 2. Eliminasyon: Asimile çabalarının sonuç vermediği durumlarda açıkça yok etmek.Bilecik Söğüt kasabasında, Domaniç yaylasında 444 çadırdan üç kıtaya hakim olan, İslâm Dünyası'nı birleştiren, 32 milyon km2'ye yayılan 180 milyon nüfusa sahip olan Osmanlı Devleti'nin başarısı şu sebeplere dayanır: 1. Her yaptığını rıza-i ilâhî için yapardı. 2. 3. İslâm ahlâkı ile ziynetlenmesi. 4. Büyük düşünmesi ve ideal sahibi olması (Kızıl-elma). 5. İlme değer vermesi. 6. Adaletin önünde Osmanlı Sultanı ile Sirkeci'deki hamal eşitti. 7. Sağlam aile yapısı. 8. Karşılıklı dayanışma, vakıf ve şahıslar yoluyla yardımlaşma ve kanaat duygusu. 9. Sultana, devlet büyüklerine, ordu ve din mensuplarına saygı ve itaat. 10. Kadın ve kızların iffet, ismet, ihlas, sadâkat, sabır, edeb, namus timsâli olması. Cemiyetleri yükselten kadındır. Osmanlı devrinde hanımlar, İslâm'ın emirlerini vecd halinde, âdeta kendinden geçercesine yaşıyordu. Çocuğunu İslâm terbiyesi ile yetiştiriyordu. Erkeğine her konuda destek oluyordu.

The disappearance of Moroccan opposition politician Medhi Ben Barka from the streets of Paris exactly 60 years ago, just a day before he'd been due to be received at the French President's Élysée Palace, shocked both countries. Since then, a thousand possible theories about what happened have emerged, some involving the Israeli secret service Mossad and even the CIA. Ronen Bergman and Stephen Smith spoke to us in Perspective about their book "L'Affaire Ben Barka", or the "Ben Barka Affair".

Mehdi also challenges Arian to a new rapid-fire question game called, “Real Billionaire or ‘Succession' Character?”As two naturalized US citizens, Mehdi and Arian discuss the recent military-style ICE raids in Arian's hometown of Chicago and the fears that many immigrant communities are feeling in the Trump era. Mehdi and Arian also get into the recent political history of Iran, including the 1979 revolution which led to Arian's family immigrating to the US when he was a child. Arian, an outspoken critic of the Iranian government, explains the importance of Iranian representation and self-determination and offers his own analogy for why Western governments should stay out of Iran's affairs. Finally, the two discuss the two-year anniversary of Oct. 7 and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. As Arian was one of the earliest signatories on the Artists 4 Ceasefire letter in October of 2023, Mehdi asks if he feared retribution from Hollywood and the entertainment industry for being pro-Palestine.SUBSCRIBE TO ZETEO TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT AND UNFILTERED JOURNALISM: https://zeteo.com/subscribeWATCH, LISTEN AND SUBSCRIBE TO ‘WE'RE NOT KIDDING' ON SUBSTACK: https://zeteo.com/s/were-not-kidding-with-mehdi-and-friendsFIND ZETEO:Twitter: https://twitter.com/zeteo_newsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeteonewsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zeteonewsFIND MEHDI:Substack: https://substack.com/@mehdirhasanTwitter: https://twitter.com/@mehdirhasanInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/@mehdirhasanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mehdirhasanFIND ARIAN:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/arianmoayedWaterwell: https://www.waterwell.org/CREDITS:Hosted by: Mehdi HasanGuest Host: Arian MoayedExecutive Producer: Kiran AlviSenior Producer and Editor: Frank CappelloMusic: Andy ClausenDesign: Alicia TatoneMix Engineer: Valentino RiveraTitle Animation: Ehsaan Mesghali

Paris, 29 octobre 1965. This is a free preview of a paid episode. To hear more, visit zeteo.comIt has been two years since October 7th, 2023 – when Hamas launched the deadliest attack in Israel's history. Around 1,200 people were brutally killed – including over 700 civilians and dozens of children. 251 people were taken hostage into Gaza, and over 80 are now confirmed dead, including those killed on Oct. 7.Since then, Israel has used that terrifying day to justify even worse atrocities in Gaza, killing over 67,000 Palestinians, 83% of whom were civilians. It is the first-ever live-streamed genocide, with images and videos of starving Palestinian children, a demolished Gaza, and gleeful Israeli military soldiers being shared across our social feeds every single day.But even though it's clear that Israel has caused far more death and destruction than even Hamas did on Oct. 7, it doesn't mean Oct. 7 was anything other than a tragedy for the innocent Israeli civilians who were either murdered or taken hostage two years ago today. In fact, some of the Israelis who suffered the most heart-wrenching losses from Hamas's attack on Oct. 7 have now actually become some of the biggest advocates for peace and most fervent critics of the Netanyahu government. In this ‘Mehdi Unfiltered' interview, I speak to two of those people: Zahiro Shahar Mor, whose uncle Avraham Munder was taken hostage on Oct. 7. His uncle's body was recovered last year in Khan Younis. Throughout the war, Zahiro has been arrested multiple times for protesting against the government's handling of the war and advocating for a hostage deal – and even been beaten by Israeli police. Then there is Israeli peace activist Maoz Inon, whose parents Bilha and Yakov Inon were both killed two years ago today, during the Oct. 7 attack. Since then, Maoz has dedicated himself to forgiveness and reconciliation, and has built partnerships with Palestinians to try and envision a future beyond war and revenge.I think you'll find my conversation with these two men to be powerful, heartbreaking, and full of wisdom. Zahiro acknowledges that much of Israeli society has been taken over by genocidal fever since Oct. 7, saying that, “concerning Israeli society's attitude toward Gaza…it's like a black hole over there.”Meanwhile, Maoz's steadfast belief in radical forgiveness, despite all he's been through since the killing of his parents on Oct. 7, is truly stunning and awe-inspiring.“The most important lesson I learned after October 7th is the power of forgiveness… I forgive Hamas for murdering my parents. And I forgive Benjamin Netanyahu and his government for sacrificing them,” Maoz says to me.Please do take the time to watch this unique conversation and hear why the two of them still hold onto hope, despite Netanyahu's constant sabotaging of ceasefire negotiations and hostage deals.Paid subscribers can watch the interview in full, without a paywall. To hear more, visit zeteo.comSPOILER ALERT: This episode includes plot details for the TV series ‘Andor'.On this week's ‘We're Not Kidding', Mehdi once again gets to do his two favorite things: have a substantive conversation about politics and fanboy on nerd culture. That's because this week's guest is award-winning Irish actor Denise Gough, who came to prominence on the ‘Star Wars' TV series ‘Andor' playing an intelligence officer in service of the fascistic Empire. But in real life Denise's politics are deeply anti-imperial as an outspoken advocate for Palestine and the people of Gaza. Mehdi speaks with Denise about her breakout role on ‘Andor' playing “one of the most compelling fascists [he's] ever seen on screen,” and unpack the parallels between ‘Andor' and the rise of fascism across the West right now. But unlike ‘Star Wars', the “good guys” in many historical conflicts are often vilified by those in power. “It's very impressive when the good guys are doing it,” Mehdi says. “ But who defines who the good guys and the bad guys are?”The two then discuss Denise's advocacy work and the historical connection between Ireland and Palestine. “[Ireland] lived under occupation for hundreds of years,” Denise says. She goes on to recount her recent trip to the occupied West Bank and witnessing Israel's apartheid firsthand. “I've seen things that are undeniable,” a visibly emotional Denise says. From the military checkpoints and fences in Hebron, to Palestinian homes barred in steel to protect against settler attacks, to handmade jewelry carved from Israeli military tear gas canisters. “There isn't a person in the world that would be able to convince me what is happening there is a democracy.”SUBSCRIBE TO ZETEO TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT AND UNFILTERED JOURNALISM: https://zeteo.com/subscribeWATCH, LISTEN AND SUBSCRIBE TO ‘WE'RE NOT KIDDING' ON SUBSTACK: https://zeteo.com/s/were-not-kidding-with-mehdi-and-friendsFIND ZETEO:Twitter: https://twitter.com/zeteo_newsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeteonewsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zeteonewsFIND MEHDI:Substack: https://substack.com/@mehdirhasanTwitter: https://twitter.com/@mehdirhasanInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/@mehdirhasanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mehdirhasanFIND DENISE:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/denisegough1/?hl=enCREDITS:Hosted by: Mehdi HasanGuest Host: Denise GoughExecutive Producer: Kiran AlviSenior Producer and Editor: Frank CappelloMusic: Andy ClausenDesign: Alicia TatoneMix Engineer: Valentino RiveraTitle Animation: Ehsaan MesghaliSpecial thanks: Khaleel Rahman

BREAKING: UN Commission Concludes Israel is Committing Genocide in Gaza

On Tuesday, in a groundbreaking new report, the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory officially concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. This comes ahead of the members of the commission stepping down later this year, after announcing their resignations this summer amid the US's escalating attacks on UN personnel.“The Commission concludes that the State of Israel bears responsibility for the failure to prevent genocide, the commission of genocide, and the failure to punish genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,” the report says.In this exclusive interview, Mehdi speaks with two of the commissioners behind this report: Chair Navi Pillay of South Africa and commissioner Chris Sidoti, one of Australia's most prominent human rights lawyers. In the interview, Pillay – who previously served as president of the UN's International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda – immediately draws parallels between genocide in Gaza and the Rwandan genocide.“It's when I came to the deliberate shooting of the single standing building where the fertility clinic was and the embryos. That immediately reminded me of the Rwanda genocide where I was a judge and where they ripped the bellies of pregnant women, pulled out the fetuses because they wanted to kill off the entire Tutsi group,” Pillay recounts.Pillay and Sidoti also both point out that unlike the Rwandan genocide, Palestinians in Gaza do not have neighboring countries they can escape to.“There is nowhere that the people of Gaza can go to escape this slaughter,” Sidoti tells Mehdi. “And yet the slaughter has continued.”The commissioners also address criticism that their report does not cover Hamas's war crimes, with Pillay noting that the commission has addressed Hamas's war crimes in previous reports.“It doesn't mean to me that every time you have to strike some kind of balance as if the parties are equal,” she explains. “They are not equal. One is the occupier and the other is occupied.”You can watch the full interview above to hear Mehdi press the commissioners on why it has taken almost two years for them to declare that Israel is committing a genocide, and why Israel prevented their commission from investigating claims of rape and sexual violence from both sides. He also asks whether they fear retaliation from the US for their report, after the Trump administration's sanctioning of ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan and UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese. If you're not a paid subscriber, please do consider upgrading your subscription today and supporting independent journalism. Thinking LSAT
ABA's False Promises (Ep. 524)

Thinking LSAT

Ben and Nate review a letter from the ABA council chair outlining the standards behind ongoing accreditation revisions. Line by line, the guys conclude the same thing: the ABA underperforms in its efforts to protect law students, from the lack of transparency surrounding the actual price of law school to the ever-increasing cost of a legal degree. Protect yourself by crushing the LSAT, applying early and broadly, and attending the right school at the right price. Study with our Free PlanDownload our iOS appWatch Episode 524 on YouTube0:31 – Tips from Departing DemonsBen and Nate share the top tips from departing Demon students who crushed the August exam. Andrew: Just read the damn words.Mario: Don't take an official test until your scores show you're ready. Stevan: Get greedy. Megan: The advice to “slow down” applies to you. Sam: It takes hard work. 7:59 – ABA Standards and ValuesThe ABA council chair's recent letter highlights their guiding standards for revised accreditation. They claim to act in the name of consumer protection and professional integrity, but many of their standards read like lip service. Ben and Nathan point out how the ABA underperforms by its own values—especially around transparency. Simply put, the law school pricing system is stacked against students. This makes it vital to focus on the actual price paid rather than the sticker price. The best way to protect yourself: crush the LSAT and attend the right school at the right price.36:26 – Is Going to an ABA School Necessary?Gabriel is weighing a top-tier ABA school against a state-accredited option. While elite schools are useful for breaking into big law, the bigger question is whether you understand the path to practice. Price should still be your top concern. $75,000 isn't cheap, but with the right LSAT performance, you can likely find a school for free.44:35 – Practice TestsMehdi asks whether practice tests are still relevant after the latest changes to the LSAT. Ben and Nate suggest avoiding Reddit. The LSAT has always been a test of reading and comprehension. The removal of logic games doesn't change that. Mehdi mentions planning for the November test. Ben and Nathan push back, insisting that choosing a test date in advance is premature.53:32 – A JD Isn't a Gravy TrainJohn shares a story about meeting a law grad now working at a building supply store. It's a reminder that a JD alone doesn't guarantee financial stability or prestige. Listeners should carefully weigh the cost of law school against realistic career outcomes.56:00 – What's the Deal with Mitchell Hamline School of Law?Ben and Nate dive into John's story by looking at the supply clerk's alma mater: Mitchell Hamline School of Law, “Minnesota's Law School of Choice.” Check out all of our What's the Deal with segments. 1:17:09 – Word of the Week: Lacunae“A common law prosecution is not possible, therefore, unless there is a true gap in the statutory system, and today there are few lacunae.”Get caught up with our Word of the Week library.

No, not the Incredible Hulk from Marvel's ‘The Avengers' —  he's a pretend super hero. The real-life superhero we're referring to this week is the award-winning Hollywood actor and activist Mark Ruffalo. For over two decades, Mark has been one of the most politically courageous actors in Hollywood, having spoken out against the fracking industry, US imperialism, Donald Trump, and the genocide in Gaza. The two talk about Mark's political evolution, from being raised in a household with three different religions to getting involved in the anti-war movement during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. When discussing Trump's second term and rising fascism here in the US, Mark doesn't mince words when it comes to the tepid opposition from Democratic party leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries. Mark says, before also launching into a scathing critique of the notoriously pro-Israel House Democrat Ritchie Torres. Finally, Mehdi asks Mark about his years-long advocacy for Palestine and the elaborate “propaganda machine” deployed by Israel and its allies, as Mark is no stranger to being attacked for his pro-Palestine views. Now almost two years into Israel's genocide in Gaza, Mark gets deeply emotional when discussing the human cost of the conflict.SUBSCRIBE TO ZETEO TO SUPPORT INDEPENDENT AND UNFILTERED JOURNALISM: https://zeteo.com/subscribeWATCH, LISTEN AND SUBSCRIBE TO ‘WE'RE NOT KIDDING' ON SUBSTACK: https://zeteo.com/s/were-not-kidding-with-mehdi-and-friendsFIND ZETEO:Twitter: https://twitter.com/zeteo_newsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/zeteonewsTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@zeteonewsFIND MEHDI:Substack: https://substack.com/@mehdirhasanTwitter: https://twitter.com/@mehdirhasanInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/@mehdirhasanTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mehdirhasanCREDITS:Hosted by: Mehdi HasanGuest Host: Mark RuffaloExecutive Producer: Kiran AlviSenior Producer and Editor: Frank CappelloMusic: Andy ClausenDesign: Alicia TatoneMix Engineer: Valentino RiveraTitle Animation: Ehsaan MesghaliSpecial Thanks: Khaleel Rahman
