Richard Cason pays tribute to Bob Kevoian from "The Bob & Tom Show". Then he talks about the Top 50 Podcasts, before he moves onto the Facebook Dating app and some of the mutations that slip through the cracks. In the second hour, Rick's old company iHeartMedia talks about merging with SiriusXM, if you're Gen X and it feels like some people don't get you- there's reason's for that and Rick will play the sound from that video which explains it. Then, he hypothesizes about what humans will look like in 200 years from chronic mobile phone use, before offering real solutions about how the radio industry can actually compete with other platforms... but only if you're in the Dollar Club, when you go the Patreon page. The rest of you just get this.

With loving memory of Bob Kevoian, we take a deep look into the JBK On Air vault with one of the proudest moments of my career both then and now. I was fortunate enough to interview National Radio Hall of Fame member Bob Kevoian of The Bob & Tom Show for my morning show Casual Friday as a student at the University of Indianapolis. This was a dream come true for me to talk to a true legend in the radio business and someone who left his mark on Indianapolis as a cultural institution. I also had a personal connection with Bob who gave my father Chooch Kennedy a national platform to showcase his talent as a musician. Throughout my life Bob encouraged my broadcasting ambitions, providing kind words, equipment, as well as the time to talk to him on my show. He was larger than life, teaching me the importance of being in the moment and letting others shine is the true magic of radio as a medium. My heart is heavy and aches for everyone who misses him. But having recordings to look back on and smile through is what I choose to be grateful for now. Thank you for loving me Bob with your light, humor, and honesty. I am truly humbled and overjoyed to have been your friend!- Jimmy
Chick McGee has been a fixture on Indianapolis radio for 38 years as a cast member of “The Bob & Tom Show,” the morning show which originates from WFBQ-FM and is heard on close to 100 radio stations across the country. That's 38 consecutive years, even if you count the six months in 1995 when he moved to San Diego to host another show and then resigned due to creative differences, home sickness and the earlier resignation of his co-host. He was quickly invited back to “Bob & Tom,” where his chemistry with the core cast continued to grow. Anybody who has listened to the show for more than a few weeks knows his central role: He's the combustible comic foil for host Tom Griswold, who likes to claim the intellectual high ground while Chick wears his heart on his sleeve, including his seven or eight stents from cardiac disease. On this episode of the IBJ Podcast, Magee and host Mason King dive into the dynamics that drive the show and how his role developed and evolved over 38 years. You might know that co-host Bob Kevoian retired in 2015 and since has suffered serious health issues; Griswold had heart valve replacement surgery in 2021; and comedian Ron Sexton, best known as recurring character Donnie Baker, died last fall. Mortality isn't necessarily funny, but it's fodder for McGee, who believes it's important to be real on-air about difficult topics. McGee also runs through his origin story: growing up in an idyllic Ohio town, the rocky family life that shaped him and the mentor who encouraged him to embrace being funny. The IBJ Podcast is brought to you by Taft.

In the first episode, Bob Kevoian discusses his cancer diagnosis and treatment journey, with the support of his wife Becky and friend Whit Grayson. They discuss the initial shock and numbness that came with the diagnosis. Despite the tough news, they commend the efficient team of physicians who quickly mapped out a plan and helped them understand the process to come. Bob remains optimistic about fighting the cancer and hopes to document his progress for listeners who may be experiencing the same fear and uncertainty.
He grew up in southern California with no intention of getting into radio. But a chance encounter in Petosky, Michigan would change all that. Bob Kevoian, one half of the iconic Bob & Tom Show, would go on to a Hall of Fame career that kept listeners in laughter for more than three decades. Today, he's traveling the country with his wife Becky in their Airstream, but he put it in park long enough to share some great stories about an incredible ride.

On a recent Thursday night in front of a sold out audience at Morty's Comedy Club in Indianapolis I gathered some of the alumni of The Bob and Tom Show. Including retired co-host Bob Kevoian, cast members Jimmy “Mad Dog” Matis, Mark Patrick, Whit Grayson, Jay Baker and Dave Dugan. Get ready for a hilarious trip down memory lane or if you are a first timer just be prepared to laugh your ass off! Some of the stories and topics we cover, fondest memories, how we all met, the development of character voices, early Bob in radio stories, how Bob and Tom became a team, favorite guests, the college tour, pranks, favorite bits, drinking around the “world” at Disney World and the tragic death of Whit’s dad Ned (just listen, you will understand why this is a highlight). I would also like to tag this post with a shout out to one of my favorite charities The Lord's Pantry at Anna’s House. They also benefited from our night of comedy. We were able to make a donation of 3200 dollars to help feed people in need. Thank you to all who attended for making this happen! ReBroadcast: Let’s get to the know the newest member of The Bob and Tom Show, Josh Arnold! After "guest hosting" for the past few month it’s official, comedian Josh Arnold has been hired full time to round out the cast of The Bob and Tom Show which also consists of Tom Griswold, Chick McGee and me, Kristi Lee. This St. Louis native stuck around in the studio after a recent show and talks about how he landed this coveted job. We delve into his career as a standup. (which began with his first joke being told in kindergarten!) His detour to teach English in South Korea for a few years. His interest in Horror films and Romantic comedies. His writing skills which has led him into screenwriting and the making of The Impersonators written by and starring Josh. There is also the more serious side of Josh. Both he and his father suffer from Panic Disorder or Panic Attacks. He explains how that affects his life and how he deals with it on a daily basis. And although he claims NOT to have a hidden talent we do find out that Josh is teaching himself to play the harmonica! All in all, I think you will agree that while Bob Kevoian will NEVER be replaced, Josh Arnold is a wonderful addition. We are lucky to have found him.

Ralph Harris brings his hilarious, infectious and warm personality to the podcast this week. His credits are many: DREAMGIRLS with Jamie Foxx and Beyonce, EVAN ALMIGHTY, ON OUR OWN, (which can be seen in syndication on TVOne), SEINFELD, THE PARENT ‘HOOD, LIVING SINGLE, IN LIVING COLOR, THE TONIGHT SHOW STARRING JAY LENO, LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O’BRIEN and more. He has had specials on HBO AND COMEDY CENTRAL. And is a regular guest on THE BOB AND TOM SHOW. To me, Ralph is family. We sit down and discuss the early days growing up in a very “untraditional” home. How joining the Army led him to comedy. And growing into finding his "voice" on stage. We also talk about his one man show MANISH BOY. And the special relationship he has with Bob Kevoian and his wife Becky. I hope you enjoy this time with Ralph and much as I did. Like I said earlier he is and always will be family.
This podcast was the best of the year. It was my first and strongest to date. I am sharing it again for those who loved it the first time and for those of you who may have missed it. The special guest: retired radio hall of famer, Bob Kevoian with his writing partner and long time voice artist (one of the Love Brothers) Whit Grayson recorded at Bob’s secret home studio. Hard to believe it’s been one year since Bob decided to retire from The Bob and Tom Show. When we recorded this it was still fresh for both of us. Much has changed but the memories will always be the same. We reminisce, talk about the future, drink whiskey and take you behind the scenes of some of you favorite Bob and Tom moments... You also get to hear some of those on air moments from the Bob and Tom archives. Disclaimer: the interview portion of the show was produced and edited by Bob Kevoian. Who did such a great job he now has his own podcast with his lovely wife Becky called June Bug Podcast find it on iTunes or at JuneBugJourneys.com.
