Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with one of the most accomplished open-wheel racers in history, three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dario Franchitti. After elevating through the karting ranks of Scotland and taking on the lower formula divisions in Europe, Dario set his sights on the US racing scene, specifically the Championship Auto Racing Teams series. Once stateside, Dario explains his journey wasn't easy, and he initially struggled until joining Barry Green's organization. Dario would have a breakout year in 2007, winning his first Indianapolis 500 and the IndyCar Series championship, but through all the success, he felt his motivation waning, and he was ready for the next challenge. The next challenge came in an unlikely form: NASCAR. Through a deal with Chip Ganassi, Dario would plunge into the world of stock car racing with both feet, taking on the Cup grid in 2008 full-time. The endeavor would be ill-fated, and before long, Dario was back behind the wheel of an IndyCar, where he began a dynasty championship run. This incredible in-depth interview dives deep into the heartbreak of losing loved ones in motorsports, the severity of head injuries, and the difficulty of walking away from competitive racing. Recorded on Recorded: March 24th, 2025 | On this Best of the Bus, Dale Earnhardt Jr. hoped on The Bus again and took the boys full throttle. From his early days rocking the iconic Budweiser colors to the not-so-glamorous reality of having to poop mid-race, Dale Jr. brings the perfect mix of legend and locker room humor. He breaks down pre-race nerves, the mental grind of NASCAR, and what it really takes to get a car into the Daytona 500. The conversation dives into carrying the Earnhardt name, the one NASCAR rule he’d change, and the underrated chess match of “free agency” in racing. Dale also opens up about the pressure, preparation, and pride that come with being one of the most recognizable names in motorsports history. But it wouldn’t be Bussin’ without getting a little off the rails. Dale talks biggest purchase regrets, his obsession with EA Sports College Football 25, and embracing his inner gamer. There’s Bud Light talk, a passionate breakdown of being a diehard Washington Commanders fan, and even some last-minute NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament bets thrown into the mix. If you’re into NASCAR stories, , gaming talk, and classic Bussin’ banter, this episode was fantastic! Big hugs, tiny kisses.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with a pillar of the short track racing community this week, longtime racer and chassis builder Jay Hedgecock. After growing up in a family with rich NASCAR history and attending the local modified race shops with his father, Jay entered the racing world himself, racing a micro midget that he dug out of his uncle's junkyard. The work he'd do to get the midget back into racing condition would begin 55 years in the field. He'd receive the education of a lifetime when he happened upon a job in Tex Powell's shop, after sharpening some drill bits for the automotive legend. Jay had firsthand experience working on NASCAR Cup cars through Tex, and before long, thanks to friend Howard Stewart, he'd find himself behind the wheel of a stock car as well. After spending years building and racing late model sportsman cars, Jay would return to his true love in racing: the modfieds. He'd go on to win multiple championships with the Southern Modified Auto Racing Tour and track titles all over the heavily contested Virginia/North Carolina region. All the while, he continued his car building efforts and went on to build short track machines for Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. Today, Jay remains one of the most successful and celebrated car builders in the country, supplying late model stocks to much of the CARS Tour field and NASCAR Weekly champions. In 1979, Dale Earnhardt scored the biggest opportunity of his budding career to run in the NASCAR Cup Series full-time for upcoming car owner Rod Osterlund. While there are remnants of that season's events preserved through television and radio broadcasts, as well as other memorabilia, Dale's older sister Kaye did what any supportive sibling in the 70s would do: she started scrapbooking. Within these scrapbook pages lie a comprehensive picture of what the 1979 NASCAR season was like from the perspective of the rookie Kannapolis driver. Decades later, it was these very scrapbooks that inspired Dale Earnhardt Jr. to create a new podcast series documenting the monumental season and his father's rapid, meteoric rise to stock car stardom. In episode one of Becoming Earnhardt, listeners will gain a better understanding of what the world was like in 1979, not only in motorsports but the world as a whole. The landscape of NASCAR in the late ‘70s is unpacked, and the cast of characters who would set out to compete for the season crown of ‘79 are introduced. We also learn how 28-year-old Dale Earnhardt drove his way through the dirt short track ranks of the Charlotte area to land one of the most coveted opportunities in the NASCAR Cup garage, chauffeuring the number-2 blue and yellow stock cars for Osterlund Racing.FanDuel: Must be 21+ and present in select states (for Kansas, in affiliation with Kansas Star Casino) or 18+ and present in D.C. Dale Earnhardt Jr. welcomes in Rajah Caruth on the heels of announcing Rajah as a part-time driver for JRM in the #88 car next season.Rajah's path to prominence in the NASCAR national scene had a unique start - as he went from iRacing to racing in real life in a matter of years. After finding success in an e-racing league, Rajah was invited to try out for the Rev Racing combine. From there, he got seat time in a legend's car during the Summer Shootout Series held at Charlotte Motor Speedway. He'd move quickly through the late model stock ranks, where he found victory lane at famed short tracks like Greenville, Hickory, and Tri-County. Although he was a “late bloomer” in racing by today's standards, his experience and determination led him to a full-time Truck opportunity, where he continues to make history as he marches towards this year's Championship Four.
