In this episode of Creative Guts, co-hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman chat (virtually) with Julia Trueblood and Karin Trachtenberg! Julia is an actor and producer; Karin is a theater maker, filmmaker, and director. Julia and Karin's film “Three A.M.” was featured and won the ‘Heartstrings' Award in Creative Guts' film festival in June 2024. In this episode, we discuss how Julia and Karin are telling stories from their perspectives as women and mothers and supporting women in film. Both took time off from their work to start their families, and for Karin, going back to theater was her doing something for herself after prioritizing her kids. Today, they're working with mostly all-women crews, in a super collaborative way. We also talk about the challenges inherent when you're wearing many different hats and why film festivals are an important way for filmmakers to share their work!Check out their films “Pumpkin Pie” and “Three A.M.” at the links below!Pumpkin Pie: www.instagram.com/pumpkin_pie_filmThree A.M.: www.facebook.com/p/Three-AM-100087678037399/Listen to this episode wherever you listen to podcasts or on our website www.CreativeGutsPodcast.com. Have you ever pondered who invented the beloved pumpkin pie? Contrary to what one might think, this iconic dessert wasn't the creation of a single individual. Instead, its rich history spans continents and centuries, weaving together the culinary traditions of Native Americans and European settlers. Let's delve into the fascinating tale of how pumpkin pie became a staple on our holiday tables. No food is as closely associated with autumn in the United States as the pumpkin. As the leaves turn and the air grows crisp, we eagerly embrace pumpkin-flavored everything. There's the now-essential pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin bread, muffins, cookies, soups, and even pumpkin-infused pastas and beers. Yet among all these seasonal delights, one stands out as the most cherished and time-honored: the pumpkin pie. This quintessential holiday dessert graces tables at both Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. With its smooth, spiced filling nestled in a flaky crust and topped with a dollop of whipped cream, pumpkin pie holds a place of honor alongside the turkey itself. But did you know that the pumpkin's journey to becoming a pie has deep roots in American soil? Send us a text“To recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.” George Washington What are the origins of the holiday we celebrate known as Thanksgiving? The day was set aside by a proclamation by President George Washington in 1789. This proclamation has much to benefit our understanding of this day and what it means to our nation. Namely, this day is a day of thanksgiving and prayer to Almighty God. This podcast episode walks through this proclamation and the implications therein...things that still apply to us now some 200+ years later. Just ahead of Thanksgiving and with the opening of the Christmas markets in some European countries, we're taking a closer look at consumption. "So far, US consumption has been really robust," says Dirk Steffen, our Chief Investment Officer EMEA and Global Chief Investment Strategist, "which is probably also due to the fact that the US labour market is still holding up." Dirk expects relatively strong consumer activity ending the year. Aside from Black Friday, Cyber Monday and holiday shopping, activity will be further accelerated by an uptick in travel, including in other countries around the globe. He comments on the third-quarter earnings season, saying that not only have the mega-caps and growth stocks in the US delivered good results so far but that Europe has also done relatively well in terms of earnings growth. He also discusses the activities of central banks and what possible interest rate cuts could mean for the bond markets and foreign exchange. For more investing insights, please visit deutschewealth.com In Europe, Middle East and Africa as well as in Asia Pacific this material is considered marketing material, but this is not the case in the U.S. No assurance can be given that any forecast or target can be achieved. It has been a long draft season, and the boys need a nap badly.
Episode 312: In a home in Shediac, New Brunswick, on February 13, 1805, Amos Babcock, driven by delusions of divine mission, subjected his family to a horrifying ordeal. He gathered his wife, children and sister, Mercy, instilling fear with his erratic behaviour and unsettling declarations. Spurred by imagined threats and seeing himself as an instrument of God, Amos prepared for a sacrificial act, treating his family with cruelty dressed up as a religious ritual. His deep descent into madness was evident as he inflicted violence upon his loved ones, sparing none from his erratic wrath. Babcock's final act of brutality saw him murder his sister, Mercy Babcock Hall, whom he saw as demonic, in a brutal frenzy of madness, bringing a tragic end to a night of unspeakable horror. Tonight, we'll read a Snoozecast+ Deluxe original story about uncovering a special pumpkin pie recipe to feed the community at Thanksgiving. Faced with the impending sale and demolition of Acorn Hollow's textile mill, Emma O'Connell decides that the way to bring everyone together is through their stomachs. A day of Thanksgiving in America had been a sporadic occurrence for most of the country's history, typically being an autumn harvest feast although sometimes occurring at other times of the year. A Thanksgiving feast was primarily a social gathering, although sometimes some prayer was involved. It wasn't until 1863, when President Lincoln proclaimed that November 26th would be a national Thanksgiving Day, to be observed every year on the fourth Thursday of November. Today, Thanksgiving is a time when many families come together, and many churches are open for special services. We have both Native Americans and immigrants to thank for the opportunity to observe a day of thanksgiving. — read by 'V' — This has been written exclusively for our Snoozecast+ Deluxe listeners.
